Escorpion is located in Midtown Atlanta and is part of the URestaurtant Group - Sotto Sotto, Fritti, and Nova Cucina is also in the URestaurant Group.
We went for our anniversary dinner the Friday before July 4th.
Location and Parking: located on Peachtree St NE at the corner of 5th St NE. It is a five-minute walk from the Fox Theater. Parking options: 1) Park on 5th ST NE. There is 8 or 9 City of Atlanta parking spots. Make sure you pay the automatic meter. This is how we parked. It is only $2 per hour. That is a bargain. One minute walk. 2) Valet parking at Escorpion. 3) Parking around the corner from Escorpion in a parking deck. Again a 1-minute walk. So parking is not an issue.
Outdoor patio: Escorpion has the largest outdoor seating in Midtown. See my pictures. It had already rained, and more rain was coming so we dined inside.
Indoor restaurant decor: Large bar with at least 6 TVs around the bar. A large indoor seating area with a lot of tables. They do have booths. You are greeted by a hostess when you walk in. The table already has cloth napkins and silverware when you get seated.
Food: They have tacos, fajitas, Antojitos (traditional Mexican appetizers).
We started with the Guacamole Al Molcajete. It was marvelous. Fresh avocado, onion, tomato, cilantro, lime, and chicharrones. If you haven't had chicharrones, you need to try this. They make it in the kitchen. I'm not a fan of restaurants that try to fool you with a 20-year-old making this at your table. Let the professionals make it. (see pictures). It is only $7. I will have this again when I go back.
Wife had fajitas. They were delicious (see picture). I had the Chicken Fried Taco and Fried Shrimp Taco. Shrimp $5 and Chicken was $4. The chicken fried taco was insanely excellent. You need to the fried chicken taco.
Alcohol: they have over 20 different Tequilas. They have Blanco, Reposado, and Añejos. I read about Fortaleza Tequila in Men's Journal magazine. It was our anniversary, so I tried it. It was great. BTW, quit drinking Tequilla like a cheap shot. You sip it. Go slowly. Don't use salt or lime either is my recommendation. Blanco is silver Tequila. Reposado tequilas are aged 2 to 12 months in oak barrels - gold. Añejos, which are aged 1 to 4 years. I had the Fortaleza Reposado. I recommend it. Next time I'm going to try Siete Lequas.
You can have a margarita made with any Tequila.
Beer: They have Victoria, Pacifico, Corona, Tecate, XX Amber and XX Lager, and Negra Modelo and Modelo Especial. I recommend either Victoria or Pacifico. I went with Victoria.
Other info: the lemonade is fresh squeezed. Wife said it was delicious.
Server and Staff: The ole lady had a question about the Guacamole Al Molcajete before we ordered. Our server, Abby, went and found a guy to answer our question. He came out and told us how they make it and use wheat to make the Chicharrones. It turns out the guy was the Director of Operations for the four restaurants and happen to be at Escorpion that night. I was impressed someone at that level would take the time to explain a menu item. That's excellent service.
Abby the server was great. We didn't have to ask for anything. The manager came over and checked on us twice.
Two must try items from my experience: the chicken fried taco and the Guacamole Al Molcajete.
Would I go again? Absolutely!
Other info: Families are welcome. We saw one family with a 7 or 8-year-old. I wouldn't recommend families going after 10 pm on a Friday or Saturday night. You would be welcomed but there probably a lot of couples, and single people out partying after 10 pm in Midtown.
Fox Theater: I recommend you try Escopion but plan your visit when the Fox theater, which is a 5-minute walk down the road, is not letting out of a show. You don't want to arrive when mamma mia let out 15 minutes before. The place will be packed.
Dog-friendly: Midtown has a lot of dog owners, and I think the outdoor seating is dog-friendly.
