On the Grid : Espresso Profeta

"Coffee shop with a New England feel. This shop will fulfill your caffeine fix with their fairly traditional menu of espresso, cappuccino, coffee, and tea. Their drinks are of quality and they buy their coffee beans from Espresso Vivace in Seattle. There is art hanging on the walls, with big windows, letting the natural light shine in and create a warm environment. If it's a nice day you can also have your coffee outside in their outdoor patio. You'll find college students studying for their classes or overhearing an intellectual casual conversation or two. A classic college coffee hangout." - Grace Duong

The 32 Best Coffee Shops For Getting Work Done In Los Angeles

"Despite being steps from UCLA's campus, Westwood's Espresso Profeta isn't entirely overrun by lawless undergrads. All their drinks are reasonably priced, with the Caffe Nico being our go-to latte order with its cinnamon and orange zest garnish. There's also a lovely back patio that never gets too loud, but we still prefer the bright brick-walled interior. Be warned: there are absolutely zero outlets, so plan accordingly and charge up beforehand." - nikko duren, brant cox, sylvio martins

In a nutshell, I don't recommend this place and I won't be back, even if I'm right across the street. Got a Spanish latte with an extra shot and a chocolate chip cookie. The Latte was good but even with the extra shot it was still very sweet (for me). The cookie was good, chewy and had nice textures. It's a cute little place with seating inside & outside. Prices are high for the small cups (most only one size), would be nice to have some bigger options. Staff wasn't welcoming at all, and this is why I won't be back. Seemed like they didn't want to be there and I was interrupting their conversation by ordering. So sorry? I and 2 other people had to remind them to give us part of our order that they forgot. Parking is rough, meters or a paid lot it seems. Only stopped by because I was in the area, and they were right across the street.

Google
The gem of Westwood Village. Best espresso by far, perhaps in all of West LA. Their small, expert staff likely has over half a century of combined experience in high-end coffee, and their Vivace beans (also sold by the pound) are imported, freshly roasted, every week. On top of all this, the secluded indoor-outdoor space is, frankly, an epicurean oasis in an area which has become increasingly impersonal and ‘take-out’ oriented. Many both casual and luxurious spots for lunch nearby. Hammer Museum across the street.

Google
Cute coffee place with good choice of lattes, unfortunately they allow people to smoke at their tables outside. Even though it is prohibited by city law. So if you life your morning coffee with a side of cigar, this is the place for you! I’ll be going to Ministry of Coffee from now on.

Google
It is my first favorite coffee shop in LA... it is one of the first independednt coffee shops in LA, too. Their coffee is unvelivable - smooth and soft. So, I started going there over 12 years ago for the coffee, but now go back for the people who work there and the coffee. Everyone is cool and kind.

Google
The place is beautiful and vibey, BUT no outlets to plug in!!!! I didn’t realize until after I purchased my drink and began working. I searched every corner and did not find one, so I asked the manager and he said they don’t have any 🙄. He told me to go to the museum across the street. Such an inconvenience for people trying to work at the place. I think they do it so people don’t stay too long. Thankfully I had enough battery to get through my meeting. Other than that the drinks are typical.

Google
It's my favorite coffee place in LA. I've been around a few places, always happy when I come here. The coffee choices is big and they have a beautiful patio. I've brought all my family and friends over here!

Google
High quality espresso served in a paper cup: why? Service varies among the baristas from nice to nasty. Nice ambiance. I'm a repeat customer.

Yelp
Cute place with a great low key vibe. We ordered a nonfat mocha and an oat milk cappuccino. Both drinks were ready very quickly and staff was friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone in Westwood looking for good quality coffee.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Got the dirty chai and it was so good! Had the perfect kick and the flavor of chai was perfect. Definitely want to try their matcha next time. Service: 5/5 Super quick! You order on one end and then you pay on the other side and get your drink! Ambiance: 5/5 Cute interior. Good study spot!

Yelp
What a great vibe. Not only a great vibe, great coffees. It's a small place, one espresso machine but don't let that fool you. These folks turn the drinks out and they're amazing. I love a good iced latte, no flavors. If it's made properly, it doesn't need extras, unless you want that flavor. I drank my iced latte like I'd been stranded on a desert island and dying of thirst. Stop in and give them a try!
google avatar

Yelp
Wanted something simple with some sweetness. Service was quick and the vibes were nice. I got the salted caramel and it was delicious
google avatar

Yelp
I've missed this coffee shop! I used to come here all the time when I worked nearby and now I never leave without having a white velvet whenever I'm in the area. I ordered an everything croissant today and that was delicious, too. I've never ordered anything I didn't like here and I love that they're consistent- my drink always tastes the same. Service is also always great, and the ambiance is beautiful- perfect place to work remotely for a bit while enjoying a nice cup of coffee in the morning.

Yelp
Best coffee in town Their salted caramel is so delicious !! Cute shop Friendly service Great prices Quality coffee

Yelp
I used to be a profeta regular when I was a student at UCLA, but also back then they had all the seating blocked off for covid restrictions. I just visited this month and the environment was absolutely lovely!! The ambiance and space was homey yet unique, which is hard to find in the area. There was additional outdoor seating that felt like a garden and the coffee bar itself matched the entrance with nice plants. I always have enjoyed the pull of espresso they have here, you can't go wrong asking them for recommendations. If you are into the basics, the oatmilk latte is very nice here. Profeta differentiates itself from some of the other coffee shops in the westwood village by prioritizing comfort and flavor over quantity and overextension. Very happy to return whenever it's in my plans.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent coffee! The service was quick and friendly. Atmosphere is nice and it was very popular, even an hour before they were closing they had a line.

Yelp
Cane here to study on a Saturday morning (from 8:45am-12:45pm), and I was really productive and immersed here! I love the quaint vibe of the interior, and that there's a lot of natural light. Romanticizing my study experience definitely made me more excited to study. I did move tables once because the sun was hitting right where I sat, which got hot, but all the tables and chairs were relatively comfortable. I also got the pumpkin go-go drink, which is a seasonal autumn drink. I really loved it! And this is coming from a coffee-hater. The latter art on the top was very pretty and the drink was piping hot which I loved. There was just enough foam and sweetness, I was so surprised because I rarely enjoy coffee. It also wasn't too sweet where it made me feel queasy. I will say though that the price is a little high but you are paying for the aesthetic/vibe as well.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite cafe in Westwood! Their coffee is excellent. Have tried their Caramello Latte : 4/5 (a little too sweet for me) Velvet Orange: 5/5 (subtle flavor of orange) Orange Zest Mocha: 5/5 (stronger citrus flavor with a nice dash of chocolate) You're welcomed by a pleasant aroma of coffee! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options (their patio is very cute). Indoor seating is almost always full- have never been able to snag a spot for working. Very popular among locals. All the baristas have been very friendly and are patient with questions about their menu.
google avatar

Charisma H.

Yelp
This place is one of the only local coffeeshops in the Village, which is a sea of chain coffee spots. And that fact alone makes it worth coming to. Profeta also delivers on its own merits. The patio is such a lovely spot to drink some sunshine with your caffeine. All the regular espresso drinks are solid and they have some fun drinks as well. While it is next to campus, it's probably not the best place to do any intense work; there's no outlets and the vibe is more chill.
google avatar

Genevieve H.

Yelp
Great coffee place! Quiet, cozy vibe with great decor. Wasn't too busy on a Saturday afternoon, there were places to sit indoors and on the cute patio outside. The menu was large and they had special craft lattes on a paper menu when you walk in - lots of great options that looked delicious. I had a toasted almond latte which was perfect, not too sweet. They only have oat or soy for special milks though. Overall a really cute place and quality coffee!
google avatar

Amber D.

Yelp
Came here Friday to work for a bit. They have meters outside and around for two hour parking which is cool. Also there is the option of outdoor seating. I ended up getting an Americano and a kouign aman. The Americano tasted like they added some sort of syrup to it which was good. Both of the gentlemen working there were extremely friendly. WiFi was fast as well. I'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Dezmond B.

Yelp
This was a very nice coffee shop tucked away in Westwood Village. The coffee was very good and had an amazing taste. The service was fast and efficient and the barista's showed superb manners. The outdoor area is big enough to sit and enjoy your coffee and talk with friends.
google avatar

Bonnie C.

Yelp
I always order the White Velvet when I come here and it never disappoints! It's sweetened by condensed milk so the drink is smooth and creamy. It's always pretty busy, but the baristas are fast and efficient so the line moves by quickly. I never stayed to study but I did see some seating inside if you ever wanted to come check it out!
google avatar

Yelp
i loooooved the cardi p latte it's somehow so refreshing and the slight hint of spice from the cardamom is so delicious and unique :) and omg the guava cream cheese croissant tasted even better than it looked the perfect balance of guava and cheese with the buttery croissant ‍
google avatar

Yelp
This is the nicest coffee house I've ever been in my entire life. Interior design 11/10: beautiful green house garden, cool air, plenty of light, tasteful design Drinks and barista: robust drinks and super friendly service. It's the type of place that you want to remain as a secret.
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
Really delicious espresso - I ordered an Iced Oat Milk Latte and I was surprised by how smooth the espresso was the texture was almost caramel-ly. Ordering is a little bit confusing, but the baristas were great at recognizing each customer once their drinks were ready. Cafe is small but really cute and I would definitely try to come back to see how studying here would be.

Eve S.

Yelp
The worst customer service I have ever experienced. The milk was bad so I asked them to remake the drink. They kicked me out of the shop! DISGUSTING customer service. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE.
google avatar

Romi K.

Yelp
The toasted almond latte is seriously so good! I love how many syrup choices this place has. The service is a bit slow but worth it for good coffee.
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and the orange zest mocha is my favorite so far. The prices are really good compared to other cafes I've been to, and the drinks are made quickly as well. The indoor seating area and outdoor patio are good places to study, but it can be hard to find seats when it's busy.
google avatar

Jasmine S.

Yelp
Espresso Profeta is my favorite coffee shop in Westwood. The ambiance is cozy, and special shoutout to their comfy couch. The coffee is excellent as well, and they make one of the best orange zest mochas I've ever had. It can get quite busy and parking is not the easiest, unfortunately. But regardless, it's a go-to for whenever I'm in the area.

Yelp
This is the place for a finals week grind! I came every morning to sip on a dirty chai latte and study. If you go early, there's a lot less people so it doesn't feel super crowded (though it does get crowded after 10 am). The windows bring in some natural light to brighten the place up. The only thing is that the coffee is pretty expensive (but it's LA so where is it not?) and there aren't many food options beyond pastries.

David D.

Yelp
Been getting coffee from here pretty often for the past few years. Espresso / Normal Coffee drinks: 3.5 stars - Pretty good, but it seems like they use the same beans every day so the taste ends up becoming boring. Best option nearby for these drinks, but not great for LA. Specialty drinks: 2.5 stars - Most options are overly sweet and artifical. They taste basically the same as all other cafes. Food: 2.5 stars - same pastries as a lot of places in the area (as in they literally get them sourced from the same bakery) but 2.5 stars because they run out fast. Layout: 1 star - Such an awful layout for how busy this place is. It's such a chore to order, you have to awkwardly stand around 5 people waiting to pay and get drinks in a small crowded area. Like seriously close the cafe for a month and remodel or something. Seating is minimal and not great. No outlets because they are still in 2010. Place gets super loud too so its hard to even hear the baristas. Service: negative a billion stars - Okay actually like 2 stars because there are finally 2 genuinely friendly baristas, but the other ones take the score down, especially the one lady. I swear I've heard her whisper something negative about me when all I did was pay and say "thanks". I would say I understand how annoying it is to work in customer service except I haven't found another cafe with as weird vibes as this place. Its one thing to be pretentious or very straightforward as a lot of cafes are, its another to act annoyed for 0 reason every day. God forbid there's an actual problem with a customer then its even more off putting and annoying to be around the staff. Its even weirder that they can be genuinely friendly, but only to certain types of people (you can probably figure that out yourself). Anyways, thank god I moved somewhere where there are 2 cafes within walking distance where dogs are allowed, baristas are friendly all day, they have outlets and food. Insane, this is the only place in westwood that can actually pull shots.

Yelp
Love this place! It's my favorite coffee shop in LA, with fantastic espresso that's freshly ground on the spot. Some of my favorite drinks are the Flat White, Cardi P, Iced Bhakti Chai Latte, and Orange Mocha. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Also love the cozy seating area, though it can get quite busy so if you're not there early, it may be tough to snag a spot. On that note, it can get quite busy so you'll sometimes have to wait upwards of 15 minutes to order / get your drink. Knocking off one star for that as it can be tricky to quickly grab and go a drink due to that and parking.
google avatar

Erin H.

Yelp
Overall, it's a like not love for me. Reasoning: High number of stars because lots of cute/green outdoor seating, discount for bringing my own mug, kind wait staff. Not 5 stars because my soy milk latte didn't taste very good. I feel bad saying that but it had a burnt flavor to it maybe? I'm not sure. I just know I usually think lattes are so yummy and indulgent, and I didn't feel that way at all. Was almost forcing myself to finish it. My boyfriend enjoyed his oat milk latte so idk. ~$13 for two 12 Oz hot lattes with alternative milk. Commensurate for LA I think? But still a little steep. Strong wifi and great place to read/study/work. (FYI no free parking and it's a busy area very close to UCLA so just keep that in mind when planning.)

Gigi Z.

Yelp
Smile guys smile... I asked a bit of hazelnut just to add a flavor to my black coffee. It was very sweet, I asked kindly to have a new one because it is so sweet.. I got a big sssh, and only okay... two bartender looked at each other with an annoyed face, and did not respond.. no smile, no sorry, no of course... I said never mind.. and they said okay... no effort to please a customer. Good attitude is waaaay better than a great coffee.. big disappointment...

Yelp
Cute café in Westwood, just a stone's throw away from UCLA. Despite attending school there back in the day, I'd never heard of Profeta until just recently. That said, I was interested in checking it out while in the area, and I went in for a late-morning brew. Inside is more spacious than it looks, with an industrial/artsy vibe. Plenty of seating to read, chat, or do work. The outside courtyard is a true gem, with beautiful tilework and greenery as a secluded oasis away from the noise and traffic of LA. I opted to sit outside for those reasons. I ordered the "Cardi P" latte, which is a pistachio latte. I've had pistachio lattes as a seasonal drink at Starbucks, but Profeta definitely does it better: subtly nutty and creamy, and the latte artwork was a lovely touch. There were other drinks I'd wanted to order, but they'll have to wait until the next visit!

Yelp
I wanted to try a new coffee shop in Westwood, and decided to go to Espresso Profetta! They have a cute outdoor patio to study at or catch up with friends. There is no outlets though, so definitely charge your devices beforehand if you are planning to stay and study. The service was amazing, and my barista gave me a couple recommendations since it was my first time going. They have lots of coffee and tea options, and milk substitution is $1. I ended up trying their orange espresso latte. The coffee flavor was strong and I loved the subtle orange flavor you get from each sip. Excited to come back to try their zesty orange mocha!
google avatar

Lisa H.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop tucked away in Westwood. Parking can be difficult as there are only a couple of metered spots on the street but depending on the time you go you can get lucky. They have an assortment of interesting drinks on the menu which all sounded good. I got the white velvet iced and it had the perfect amount of sweetness. The baristas were very nice and worked quickly, there was a long line by the time I left. The courtyard is really cute but there aren't many tables - I wish they replaced some of the benches with tables. Nonetheless the coffee and service were great!
google avatar

Karla T.

Yelp
Costumer service upon even just entering the shop within the first few min was extremely poor. I tried to ignore it and continue with my positive attitude but to be quite honest the Asian guy and Caucasian lady (3/6) had the most unbearable attitude, as if they forgot they are there to offer a welcoming costumer service ambiance. It was crazy lol... I did not even feel comfortable asking other questions, given the fact this was my first time going to Profeta. Extremely unprofessional, I would have left but I stayed for my friend. Not to mention how she even noticed their attitudes. I have worked in costumer service before (at a cafe too) and could never feel comfortable treating a client the way they had no shame doing..
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
I like it in here. The leather couch is great for a laptop and a coffee. And the coffee is excellent! Also I love that when I order decaf, I don't get charged. (I'm looking at you, Elysee.) Most of the staff are kind, but it's the occasional turbogrump that keeps this at four stars instead of five.

Armine M.

Yelp
Coffe is good but people working there have a horribe attitude not nice at all! Will never go back
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
The drinks here are pretty wonderful, but the seats are not the most comfortable. It's a cozy space that fills up pretty quick, but definitely worth getting something to go.
google avatar

Carlos C.

Yelp
I've been coming here for some time. This is one of my favorite coffee spots. It's such a hipster spot, I love it lol. I normally get the orange zest or the carmelo iced. This places is always consistent. I like to rate my places from 1 to 10. 1 through 3 - will never comeback 4 through 5.8 - will come back if someone I'm with wants to try the spot 5.9 though 7.0 -will come back 7.1 through 9.9 will make an effort to come back and recommend 10 the best place! (Haven't had a 10 because there is always a better place out there. My rating for this place is 9.3 (Will you come back? Duh!) My Yelp rating is regarding the service, the experience and the quality of food or beverage.

Yuko N.

Yelp
Espresso Profeta is one of my favorite cafe's in Los Angeles. I love the atmosphere and theme of the interior. I always order the Earl Grey tea latte with oat milk. Espresso Profeta's is always creamy and flavorful. Though all of the pastries I've tried so far are phenomenal, I recommend the seed cookie by far. I've never had a cookie that incorporates seeds and dried fruits so well anywhere else. I haven't gotten to try the Guava Cream Cheese croissant yet as it is never there when I go -- I definitely want to in the future!
google avatar

Sana D.

Yelp
Today when I asked for the Wi-Fi password, the staff acted pretty impatient. I was trying to ask the staff to repeat the password because of the background noise. He even told me somewhat rudely to step aside from the counter. I believe that even for something as simple as Wi-Fi access, customers should be treated with some friendliness. It left me feeling unwelcome, to be honest.
google avatar

Madie D.

Yelp
Classic Westwood study spot with solid wifi, lots of seating, and an aesthetic setting. Come with a fully charged laptop and ready to order one of their specialty drinks.

Babak S.

Yelp
much better coffee than Ministry of Coffee, same price or cheaper The service was fast and good too
google avatar

Karissa S.

Yelp
I was walking through westwood when I stumbled upon espresso profeta! It's a cute homey coffee shop tucked away on Glendon with good vibes. They have a lot on their menu, ranging from americanos to specialty lattes and mochas. I tried the orange zest mocha which was really interesting. The coffee was smooth and it had an orange afterrtaste that was subtle and not too overpowering. The baristas are super friendly and the place was packed when I went on a Sunday morning. You order at the counter and they make your drink right there for you. It's a little pricy but still worth trying. There are lots of tables (indoor and outdoor), as well as free wifi, so you could definitely study or do work here! Street parking only which can be difficult.

Alex F.

Yelp
Former barista here. The only place in Westwood I go to. The only place in LA to get vivace coffee. Truly excellent baristas. They are strict about customer behavior and apparently some of the commentariat here can't hack it but that's their own issue, the rules make for a smooth and comfortable experience for the large and dedicated crew of regulars.

Yelp
I have such a love hate relationship with this place, and this review has been overdue for a decade. The espresso is great, but I always leave feeling like I got slapped in the face. Coffee first: My go-tos are the white velvet and cafe nico. Flat white is good also. DON'T get their masala chai. It tastes like water. The negatives: - Their customer service is average at best on good days, but on other days I feel like I'm just being tolerated or even judged. - They also are super stingy or try to upsell you on everything. Eg, I usually ask for light ice because I don't like my lattes watered down. The barista kindly offered (or so I thought) to top it off. I was surprised and accepted his offer only to find they charged me an extra $1 for 1 more cm of milk. What. - When the cafe nico used to be better (it's not as good as it used to be), 3.5 oz just went down way too fast. But employees would refuse to add more milk (even at additional cost). Like a year ago, I realized that they finally added an 8 oz version! Only to be disappointed 5 dec later that it came with the whopping price tag of $7.50. Seriously?? Despite the subpar service and hefty prices, I've kept coming back at least once a year for the last 10 years. So that should tell you something about the coffee.
google avatar

Jamie W.

Yelp
Coffee and barista great. Person taking order and payment lady was super rude. Not the best service by them. But the coffee was good and the barista was kind. Namely speaking of the purple grey hair lady at the register who talks about her customers in front of everyone else. Classy.

Sophie M.

Yelp
Best coffee in Westwood! A little pricey but definitely worth it. I got a cappuccino and it was delicious
google avatar

Brianna M.

Yelp
Cute cafe to study at and get a coffee. I got a hot vanilla latte, it was good and had a lil coffee art on it in the shape of a heart. The workers were very nice and kind.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute, quick, great coffee and well priced comparatively. I got a white velvet latte and it was delightful.

Yelp
I was originally a bit hesitant to come to this place because of the ratings, but I am so glad I decided to give Espresso Profeta a chance. By far, it's my favorite coffee place in Westwood and maybe LA. I go here now maybe once or twice a week. It's one of the few coffee shops that have authentic sizing. The espresso itself has those strong chocolatey notes that balance the bitterness and the sourness. I've tried probably more than half of their menu, and there has been yet to be a drink I've disliked. My favorite flavored latte is their Spanish latte but overall favorite has to be their cortado. The main complaint I see on other reviews is average/bad customer service. I don't agree, but I can see where others are coming from. On our first time there, we asked the baristas about where they source their beans and about the kind of machines they used, and they went into depth about both topics. They are clearly passionate about what they do. I just think in general the main person who I see working there is a bit of an introvert - and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Don't let that dismay you from coming.

John W.

Yelp
Good espresso in an amazing location. Sun dappled room and courtyard. Great place to savor a latte with a book.
google avatar

Yelp
Espresso Profeta pulls a decent shot, but they are in dire need of a system to get the drinks correct. One person is pulling shots and taking orders, while another is in charge of milk? It seems unnecessarily complex, but maybe there's a beauty in this system that evades me. Unfortunately, on two separate, recent occasional, I had my drink made incorrectly. Both times, I ordered an iced oat milk latte. The first time, I received a hot oat milk latte. The second time, I received an iced oat milk latte with some kind of chocolate syrup at the bottom of the cup. Of course I understand that mistakes sometimes happen, but this is twice, two days in a row... literally 0 for 2. It's frustrating, especially at $7.25 (with tip) per latte. I just can't bring myself to go again :(
