Great local markets with a reasonable offering of produce, cheeses, sea food & snacks. There is also a number of casual takeout food vendors and a great range.

Always have a nice time Essex Market, particularly to grab something to eat or drink to enjoy in its Mezzanine seating area - a great space overlooking the market stalls. Had also earlier gone to eat The Market Line underground, but saddened to find it closed this past Spring. It's shameful to have happened! After razing the existing housing here south of Delancy in 1967 and resulting from the ensuing squabbles and politics that followed, these blocks remained eye-sore open air parking and vacant lots for almost half a century, impacting the neighborhood. Finally, Essex Crossing rose with the mission to correct that situation. Separate from the relocated city-owned Essex Market above at street level, The Market Line space was independently run by a private developer group. Unfortunate with timing of The Market Line portion's limited opening immediately before the pandemic plus lack of expansion of that space never fulfilled the original promise of a bigger (150,000 sq. ft.) rolled out huge public market hall for the complex. Clearly, unified integrated public management of both Essex Market and Market Line spaces would foster realization of a bright future as a community-oriented destination draw for locals and visiting foodies that the Lower East Side and NYC in general deserve!

Our bodies were craving something healthy. Peruvian food at Don Ceviche (Essex Market) to the rescue! My husband ordered their power bowl with rotisserie chicken while I ordered one of their budget meals. We loved the variety of options at this market. It is also so cool to know that this is the oldest market in NYC! Talk about historic.

I've walked past this place a million times, but never went inside, until last night. I was across the street at Immersive Gaming-- and the staff told me I could get pizza there, and even a birthday cake for my daughter. Unfortunately, the bakery was closed, but the pizza shop was open. While I waited for the pies to be made, I did some browsing and noticed all the wonderful shops inside. Bar, Bakery, Pizza shop, mini- market, produce, butcher shop, etc. I was thoroughly impressed by how I never managed to make my way inside despite being around the area frequently.

Essex Market is a great spot with tons of variety. There are so many different restaurants and stores, making it a fun place to explore. I love the open tables and stools on the 1st floor - perfect for studying or just chilling, especially since they have plugs available. It's a nice, relaxed vibe, and I've had a great time visiting multiple times with friends and family.

This is a great place not just for tourists, but locals too. It can feel a bit overwhelming stepping foot inside this market especially during the holiday time. This market is made up of all kinds of different booths from food-beer-flowers and everything in between. Downstairs and upstairs they have plenty of seating to enjoy your tasty food and beverages you buy here. I have not had any food here yet but the atmosphere here is always buzzing with good vibes and always smells good/interesting. Highly recommend check this market out if you are in town and have the time.

Essex Market is a favorite hub for me in the Lower East Side. I like the new building but still miss the old one. Now entering to the view of pretty flowers at Saffron to choosing a lemon cupcake from Dugar Sweet Sunshine, a path to edible delights awaits. Then a variety of spices regale one's olfactory senses and very gentle prices at the Spanish market. Here I can pick up three lemons for a dollar when years ago it was eight to a dollar. Rebel Cheese comes next where unusual cheeses are the norm. Shopsin's is famous for their breakfast. Don Ceviche has tasty Peruvian chicken. How about an ice cream from the Lower East side ice Crean Factory? Both the smoked salmon and deviled eggs are delicious at Nordic Preserves where one can also sit to eat. Firmaggio Essex is another favorite. Cheeses, artisanal chocolates like Qantu and Marou and a large selection of European tinned fish is always tempting. The Cortado at Puerto Rico Importing Co. is made with two shots of espresso and cannot be custom made . Will this keep me awake for a few days? It goes well with the lemon cupcake I am enjoying in the upstairs area where one part has been cordoned off as the monthly tango dancing is going on there

The Essex market was so much fun! I love all the food options and the downstairs with more hidden spots. We tried so many places all under one roof.

My friend and I explored and grabbed lunch on the go from Essex Market a few weeks ago when we were having a Lower East Side morning. I love a food hall/market, and Essex Market is a great one. First of all, it has history - Essex Market has existed on the LES since 1818 (albeit not in its current, very modern form). Now it's a super sleek, very modern market that is very aware of its history and its neighborhood. With vendors ranging from grocery, specialty good, and prepared foods, there's a lot to see and a lot of vendors to visit in Essex Market. While not every vendor is open the same times or days (there were a few closed when we stopped in), we had plenty of options to choose from for a quick lunch (we decided to take ours on the go, but you can definitely enjoy your lunch upstairs in the dining area - lots of tables). My only complaint about our visit is geez was it hot in the market. Maybe it was just one of those unfortunate days when it's gotten warmer outside but the heat is still on inside, but I definitely thought it would be much more pleasant to take our lunch to go and enjoy it while walking around the LES. A great market - lots of vendors, interesting history, tons to see. Check it out.

I love Essex Market. You can always find something that appeals. The cut fruit is always very fresh. I love the smoothies and haven't found a better option anywhere: a large selection and plenty of healthy options. The cheese and nut kiosk is excellent and I order the Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinaigrette from Olive and Spice when I can't get there. Quick ship and securely packaged. There is always a nice selection of pastries and bagels. Everyone can leave satisfied and happy‼

I stumbled upon Essex Market on a sunny Tuesday morning. It wasn't too crowded. They have great fresh produce along with other grocery type stands. I stopped by Porto Rico Importing Co. for and iced tea then wandered around to see what other food options were open and there were a variety of tasty looking options. I chose empanadas from Dominican Craving which were crispy and delicious. They also had the biggest, thickest pieces of bacon I've ever seen. The market has a huge seating area upstairs where a few people were working. The restrooms were clean. Great experience and would come back to try other market items.

Essex Market is having an interesting (free) event on May 13 - from 7:00-8:30 p.m. - to celebrate Lower East Side History Month. It's a lecture about the former Essex Market (located nearby). The talk will trace the evolution of food vending on the Lower East Side - and afterwards, there will be an opportunity to sample market fare & street foods from 19th-century NYC. This event will be held on the mezzanine level and no registration is needed.

Food Hall. GOOD. An indoor Market where you can buy prepared Food from a number of Vendors. I grabbed a THAI Burger at ZAAB ZAAB and was more than satisfied. ESSEX MARKET is also a good place to shop where other Vendors offer Baked Goods, Cheese, Fish, Meat and Produce for sale. RECOMMEND.

Ugh! I don't think I'll ever get tired of Essex market/ so many different vendors, unique finds, and delicious eats. I love love the plant based artisanal cheeses; they are truly a vegan's/dairy free humans dreams come true. If you're into plant based cheeses that taste amazing-- please visit the rebel cheeses!!!

Located on Essex and Delancy, this market is large and has many vendors, but isn't filled. There are two floors. Inside is an art gallery, a record shop, fish market, meat market, bakeries, coffee shops, general stores, spice shop, and food. There is seating either downstairs or on a loft space upstairs. I have tried about 4 different vendors. The sushi vendor upstairs is delicious, the kebab vendor is horrible. I have never had such cold, tasteless kebabs. I ordered a quesadilla from Puebla Mexican and really enjoyed it. I love this space, reminds me of Pensy, which I really miss. It's great to have so close to work.

Went to this place to try Don Ceviche which was excellent. However, when i went to use the restroom upstairs the only stall that was open was one that didn't have a backing to the toilet. I decided to use this one anyways as there was no sign indicating it was out of order. As i am using the restroom a man announces that I need to hurry up so they can fix the toilet. I hurry up, wash my hands, and leave. A minute later a woman employee approached me and accused me of trying to flush sanitary products down the toilet which I did not do. She proceeds to say that she "watched me change my pad" and that she "knows it was me" I was appalled and disgusted. Terrible staff.

Upon entering the market, a guy lingering in front approached me. I ignored him and walked into the market. He followed me in and started yelling profanities. Absolutely no security. Frightening place.

A nice market on the lower East side. On the corner of Delancy & Essex you can get there via the F train to Delancy and then is a short walk across the street. High quality food vendors and plenty of seating upstairs and downstairs. A nice grocery store and specialty shops. Fresh fruit, veggies, fish, spices and gourmet cheese. All small businesses under one roof. Stop by the Soup ladies booth - Peasant Stock it's special. All soups are homemade so are the breads and baked goods. Everything is super fresh and organic. Everyday has different specials and the chowder I had was amazing and it came with delicious hot bread.

It has everything you need from groceries to multicultural food options. I've so far tried Korean, vietnamese (pho) and more to try. I loved food from first level. Their dumpling is good. Pho is also equally good. One of the shops i wanna try is pickled stations! It looked so mouthwatering.

Very unique! I like this little unique grocery store / restaurant. It reminds me of a bougie Whole Foods or Sprouts! But with a variety of Vendor and dining options. The prices are a little steep, but it makes sense. You can get everything from organic, outsourced/imported grocery options to vendors with Asian cuisines, Mediterranean cuisines, American, desserts, pickled foods, fresh breads, pastries, ice cream, and three cafes. My favorite was cafe d'avigion. The cappuccinos were SOO GOOD! There's seating areas throughout and downstairs. There was also a DJ downstairs. Gives very much so Pike Place Market vibes in Seattle but on a very very small scale

It's great place to visit but I just realized groceries are Quite pricey...(compared to my other reviews) Except for cheese/spices store it's not a big difference. I wanted to go to Chinese Icecream Factory but I was told open for the weekends only. - if you're going there note. There's place to eat in the basement and upstairs. In the basement, there're some store in. I've noticed the basement stores are OK. bathroom is in the basement and upstairs I hope my view is helpful.

Cute market! Lots of different vendors to walk around and see plus the gingerbread village during Christmas was an awesome surprise! Highly recommend stopping in and strolling around for a little while.

I love the options here. So many food to choose from Ice Cream to Japanese to pub food. New York is definitely a culinary food heaven. Essex Market is very similar to Chelsea Market etc. There are seating at the restaurants/stalls high-top counters and also nearby (first come fist serve). It is several floors and best of all it opens late. You will also find a grocery, deli and specialty store in here. Pretty convenient and cool place to shop. I love it!

If you are around Essex Market and you want to shop or eat, I highly recommend Essex Market. I could have spent a whole day there. It has both prepared foods and many market stalls for fresh fruits and veggies, dairy meats, sweets, really everything you could want. If I lived in NYC, I would shop there every week. We stopped at Arinchini Brothers for orrincici (rice balls) which were fabulous. I wish I could have taken some home but they ship so I'll get them that way. We also stopped by Essex Olive and Spice where I bought two bottles of fig balsamic vinegar, which may be the best balsamic I have ever tasted and I have been to Italy, France and Croatia. The olive oil there was also special. The bottom floor of the market has a lot of prepared foods like pizza and Asian stalls as well as pastry and ice cream. Why we don't have a place like this in Miami I don't know!

Over priced! 2 desert cakes $23. Tasty cakess though. And quality coffee - very strong

New York City is full of culinary destinations, some lowbrow and some fine dining, and the Essex Market has been added to my must-revisit list. If you know nothing about the Essex Market, it is an indoor marketplace populated with a variety of stores and a few restaurants. If you love ingredients, this place stands head and shoulders above other places I found. Breads, spices, cheeses, desserts, salamis and salumes and sopressatas, oh my! Several places offer packaged international awareness that are worth digging through. I won't venture to say they have everything under one roof, but I certainly have most of the things that are worth considering. In between shopping, I stopped at Shopsin's (c.f. there movie "I like killing flies") for their Thor's Hammer - Brisket, Chorizo, Jack, Peppers, Onion sandwich. Damn! Talk about hitting all the notes. Warm, umami, profoundly tasty, and with the sweetest counter help. The next time I'm in Manhattan, this is going to become a dining destination for my entire party. And I'll be sure to book an extra hour or two just for hunting those treats that need to make it back to my kitchen.

This was a stop on the Lower East Side Food Tour which offered a sanctuary from the heat on a 90 degree day. Many years ago my wife and I started a food tour in the Essex Street Market, however, that was the old market that closed down in 2017 I think. This new market has a lot more seating and is more sleek than the old one. We were able to eat our empanadas and fried dumplings that our tour guide procured for us here. Clean restrooms and a place to refill our water bottles was a Godsend. I wish we had more time to check out all the vendors but unfortunately we had play tickets that evening and had to hightail it back to Midtown. We definitely have to come back next visit.

We're going to do a "grand review" of Essex Market since we sampled a few different stalls after spending the majority of a weekend morning here with a friend and her kids. We were beyond lucky that an Asian American society was putting on this incredible event for children there with booths featuring various artistic endeavors (painting, origami, scrapbooking). It was such a fantastic event--our friend even won two raffle prizes! Da Reviews: 1) Porto Rico Importing Co. 3.5 stars for nice cups of coffee. We got a cold brew and a drip and we loved the flavors. Price was good, service was friendly, but the guy poured like a quarter cup of half-and-half in to the hot coffee and we had to ask for him to redo it and then it spilled over the cup everywhere, and that was just unnecessarily annoying. 2) Salad Joon: *Mostly* 4 stars. We got the tabbouleh salad and it was wonderfully fresh with unique ingredients that make it rise above the typical salad place (like grilled mushrooms and squash). Service was good, but they could stand to pick up the pace a bit. Very delicious and would absolutely go again though. 3) Davidovich Bakery: 3 stars. Meh. Got a rainbow bagel and cream cheese for our kiddo as well as an egg and cheese everything bagel here with scallion cream cheese. Nothing was "bad", but unimpressive for NYC standards. The chocolate babka was really good though, but go a few blocks over to Russ & Daughters if you're going to have the calories. 4) Essex Squeeze: 3 stars. Another meh experience. Unfriendly staff. Our kiddo had the avocado, mango, pineapple shake with coconut milk and it was nothing that you couldn't make at home or get anywhere else for far less money. Wouldn't recommend. Big picture: this is a great space with lots of different options and it was a perfect location for our meet up on a cold morning. We love these food halls that have popped up all over NYC since we left. We'd be happy to be back at some point in the future. Four satisfied stars.

There are a lot of vacancies here but I did enjoy the stores that I encountered, especially the vegan cheese market. I couldn't believe how many new products they had plus their incredible selection of vegan cheeses! I wish I wasn't flying out because I would have spent waaaay too much here (in a good way).

I love there are so many options to choose from! I totally enjoyed this spot. I would definitely recommend checking out this place if you're in town!

Love this unique place. A bit of an upscale farmers market type location. Wide variety of food options. There's always something new around the next corner or down the stairs. From spices to cinnamon rolls to mole enchiladas or pizza. From sushi to Puerto Rican cuisine to Asian candy you will probably never get bored with the shops located here. Thumbs up.

Essex market is new to the Lower East side. I went here on a date with my old friends from the hood and their two daughters. Lots of excellent food choices, there are two floors and we sat downstairs and ate our delicious food. Great addition to the neighborhood. Lots of changes to the Lower East side. Fun place to eat! Will return....

Cool market with a lot of options for grocery shopping, dining in, taking out, and more. Mondays and Tuesdays some places do close, but you can always find something to eat!

Consider this the anti-Hudson Yards. While everything in the new mega bazaar on the West Side was designed with rich tourists and excessive opulence, Essex Market is the everymans food hall. Uprooted from its original home across the street on Essex, the new market has gotten an upgrade in digs and floorspace. Gone is the cramped stalls and tight walkways between spaces (claustrophobic pre-COVID, now potentially dangerous) and in its place are space for more shops, more people to walk and more opportunities to find something unique and off the beaten path. As opposed to other food halls like Hudson Yards and Chelsea Market, Essex Market actually has fresh grocery stores alongside the new small stalls hawking everything from breads, to cheeses, to various Chinese and other Asian foods

Great spot with a ton of options for food in one spot. As well as the aesthetics are beautiful. I've been here before and went again after the movies. However they definitely don't stay open till 12. Most of the shops were closed. It was only one spot inside- the bar that was opened.

For a grab and go spot it's not that bad if you're in midtown. Just watch out during 12pm on weekdays for the lunchtime rush it's best to order ahead.

Located in the center area inside Essex Market, this store La Tiendita is truly GEM! I kid you not! Ok, this is not a taqueria nor a food place, contrary to the name of this place. After passing by for several months, the goods did not really catch much attention. Yes, it is very colorful but in most of our minds, the hand-made items are not what we consider everyday essential items (just did not want to get anything else to horde). So I just want to be honest about that. Today, I was waiting for food at the Peruvian stand, and decided to talk a quick breeze. I saw the stickers about supporting a local community and was AB-SO-LUTE-LY touched. The goods were SOOOOO adorable, and you would definitely want to take kids there! It is such an inspirational store for kids to really understand that they are purchasing something for a purpose, to aid another community and to better the good will for each and everyone of us. So that is why I initiated this review, to not only give it five stars, so that everyone can approach this business for a cause. In addition, I had no idea they had other specialty items like soaps and whatnot. I came across a BODY SCRUB, and they let me sample a little. I WAS HOOKED. It had natural ingredients and the price point at $15, I could not believe it. The jar was super cute (and it was medium sized too!) and came with a wooden sppon. Goodness, the cost of the jar and spoon and all the accessories probably won't amount to much profit after all that. SO I really wanted to stress how incredible the body scrub jar was and I couldnt wait to head back home to try it. The body scrub is more for the general areas of the neck and back, and not the face. In terms of body scrub reviews, I have plenty. (Now get read...). Drugstore brands for body scrubs are generally deemed too soft, and may be used more for the face or those with sensitive skin. (Even though they coin it for the "Body", it is essentially too gentle.) There has not been much scrubs out in the market that really has been THAT coarse to take effect on places like the neck and rougher areas like in the back. So with that said, the one good product I have came across from the past was from Elizabeth Arden, came in sort of like rounded tub, and that costed Kardashian-like dollars. I do not plan on spending that much. So to find a body scrub of this value and quality - it is like hitting the jackpot. (Yes, look what a body scrub find can do!) Of course, for good measure and in keeping with the theme of this store, I bought a cute heart soap. Plus, this overall feeling that it makes you feel that when have purchased something for a good cause is truly awesome! With that said, will plan to come back and get a few more things as gifts. (And yes, more body scrubs please!) Hope everyone supports their local businesses and to help out those who may need things the most!!! Please check out these hand-made goods!

This is a large food court that is very similar to Gotham West Market. The main difference is that Essex has a large grocery store section with a fruit and vegetable stand, fish stand, and meat market. The food vendors here are also decidedly more local. You will find sushi, Dominican, Italian, Mexican, Peruvian and more. Some of the vendors are small branches of local restaurants like the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, Sugar Sweet Bakery, and Arancini Bros. This place definitely boasts a good variety of offerings. It is also new, modern, and super clean with a hip feel to it.

For West Coast people, this is a similar concept to Oxbow Market in Napa, or like an indoor "Streat Food" in San Francisco. Essentially, it's a brick and mortar with endless food and shop vendors, endless options for grab and go, fast casual, and sit down, and some of the tastiest options in lower Manhattan, and a perfect meetup spot for friends, family, etc. It's a wonderful use of space, and you could spend all day exploring, discovering, and meeting the nicest shop owners and cooks. Quite tasty and lots of smiles, all around.

Woot woot! New Essex market is awesome! Wonderful new space compared to the cramped old market space. Lots of exciting new vendors as well as mainstays from the old market. It's very convenient as I work nearby and I now have a go to spot for breakfast/lunch and after work shopping when necessary. Some vendors are not cheap (like the specialty butcher or the beer vendor) but there's something for everyone here. I need to work my way through the food vendors but so far I love Café d'Avignon, Formaggio Essex, Nordic Preserves, Eat Gai, and People's Wines! Even during the pandemic, having the market open has been very helpful. I would park at the municipal garage, go to work, pre-order from Essex Market vendors then pick up my orders on my way home.

LOVE. Can't wait to come back to buy everything haha literally. I am Not living in the area so it's hard but I remember the place before the refurbishment and oh boy! Amazed with all the small stalls of vendors. You can really find morcilla (typical peoduct from Spain) or headed shrimp (which I know it can be found in chinatown, hmart). There is a vendor with soo many vegan cheeses that I would love to try them all, a kebab joint, top hops,... and so on and forth. Want to come back soon

*Ninety minutes from New York to Paris! Did you know there is only *one* Starbucks on the Lower East Side? Keep that BS out and give the Lower East Side a modern Essex Market. By moving the market across the street, allows all the vendors more room. And more room is good! Don't get it twisted, I don't want to start knocking down historic New York sites. St Patrick's Cathedral can go more vertical, bulldoze it baby! The new modern digs are welcomed. The dark market needed a refreshing. Now you can sit upstairs, relax and enjoy your purchase. And that's just what we did, we went to Davidovich Bakery for bread, Arancini Bros for some Italian rice balls and to the fish market for some outrageous fish. Is it the biggest market in New York? Not by a longshot but a Lower East Side market. Welcome to the neighborhood. *I don't know why IGY popped in my head when I walked into the market. What a beautiful world this will be..

Great indoor all-season market in the LES with an abundance of options. It seems as though there is something for everyone. It's well laid out with rows of vendors and a place downstairs to sit and enjoy your food. As a vegan reviewer, I was content with the selection of vegan options available - the standout for sure was Riverdel vegan cheese shop.

This is a great hall for a variety of foods. Have a group and need a central place where everyone can get whatever they want? This is the spot for you. We snagged some soup for an early dinner at the soup place there. The lemon orzo soup was delicious with a really flavorful broth and lots of goodness within the soup itself. Appreciated the foil around our to go container too just to keep it hot. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the the price is a bit on the higher end for what you get, but it is definitely good food.

Looking for fresh fruit, veggies, meat or fish? Essex Market's got it. Specialty cheese, spices and pastas? Essex Market's got it. Looking for a quick bite for lunch or dinner? Well, you get the point Essex Market's got it. Stop by Essex for a quick trip if you're looking to grab something to eat or do some quick grocery shopping by supporting small businesses.

Essex Market is a brand new food hall in NYC. Entering Manhattan from Brooklyn, it's the first stop off the M Train at DELANCEY ST-ESSEX ST. It's nicely located right across the street from the train stop and, honestly, we were trying to avoid the summer heat wave. So far, only the street level floor is open to vendors. On this floor, you'll find a few food vendors, a beer bar, a bakery, groceries, cheeses and meats, fresh seafood, and much, much more. We ended up snacking on some Thai food and Sicilian food along with bread pudding and coffee from a bakery. Everything tasted great. We ate upstairs at the designated dining area which has lots of natural light coming in and overlooks the vendor floor. In late summer 2019, Essex Market will be opening the area below the street level. My guess is that there will be a lot more food vendors. I'm already looking forward to seeing this finished product on my next trip.

A lot of reviews have compared this to Chelsea Market but I don't think it's an apt comparison. Chelsea Market has more energy and more people going through it and a greater selection of food. Don't get me wrong, Essex Market has natural light and doesn't feel like the inside of a nice subway station unlike Chelsea Market. My only gripe is the prices of things in Essex Market. $5 for a small slice of pepperoni pizza? $4 for a small cookie? Like I get that prices are dictated more by the rent that the venue itself charges all the vendors and shops. But whoever is managing the venue clearly thought back in 2019 or whenever it was open, they would be able to turn it into Chelsea Market but that definitely ain't happening. At least judging by the amount of food traffic at Essex Market. Needless to say I am bearish on Essex Market and think that unless they lower the rent for vendors and subsequently the prices of things there, I don't foresee Essex Market remaining open 5 years from now.

So glad Essex market is open on the lower east side! Pre covid there were a bunch of shops but now half of them are closed downstairs but the markets are still open on the first floor. They have a bunch of shops like sugar sweet sunshine, Chinatown ice cream factory, eat gai, Essex pearl, ample hills, to name a few. There's different local supermarkets in there, bakeries, meat shops, beer shop, and cheese shops. I always enjoy each visit to Essex market because there's always something to pick up each time. It's also right next to an AMC theater!
