Estragon - Review - South End - Boston - The Infatuation

"With colorful string lights, loud wallpaper, and photos of Salvador Dali all over the place, Estragon looks like the apartment of a manic pixie dream girl. We mean that in the best way possible, because Estragon will keep you entertained even if you’re just sitting at the bar by yourself. The black sausage and garlic shrimp are reliably good, and if you want to explore the menu without hurting your wallet too much, get to their Happy Hour when at least 14 dishes are priced under $5." - Dan Secatore

Came here with a big group and got a lot of food to share! Good: - Nice upscale vibes and formal service - The paella here was huge - it wasn't anything super special but just was filling which helped at the end of our meal - The garlic shrimp was small but each one was so good - I liked the blood sausage! Can't say I've had that before anywhere else - but with the bread it tasted extra good - So much variety on their menu you can't go wrong! Bad: - A bit too dim inside - The food took a while to come out - Pricey overall Overall this place had some solid food choices, was very filling too!

Service and ambiance was great, but some of the food lacked flavor for me. The Pintxos de Setas (mushroom toast) was honestly the best mushroom bread combo I've ever had. The Salpicon (octopus and shrimp) was alright, a bit watery. The Pincho de Pollo (chicken skewers) were good, but nothing special. The Filete de Bacalao was bland and kind of disappointing.

We tried this restaurant for the first time with boston restaurant week deal/ menu. Wonderful place with great tasty food. Cool inside decorations. Pictures of the food not that nice due to low lighting but enjoyed the taste.

Google
Lovely atmosphere, tasty food, good drinks! Had a very pleasant experience, pitcher of sangria was a good deal. The fried artichokes were a stand out dish, potatoes bravas could have a more flavorful sauce but still quite good! Thought the dates with blue cheese were nice too, especially because it comes nice and warm, melting the cheese inside. Went with all vegetarian dishes and can verify they had very good options. Overall a lovely tapas place, would recommend!

Google
So glad I discovered this place! Delicious tapas, great drinks, excellent service, and a lovely atmosphere. The authenticity of this restaurant is so nice. I highly recommend trying it! The shishito peppers, patatas bravas, braised beef flatbread, and garlic shrimp are delicious. We also had a special lamb empanada which was baked freshly and absolutely to die for! Will certainly be back!!

Google
Another amazing Google maps find. Plenty of street parking without having to pay after 18:00 during the week. My wife is a vegetarian and really enjoyed her selections. I enjoyed my meat-based tapas. We also had delicious adult beverages. The service was great and our server Brian has been with Estragon Tapas from day #1, 13 years ago. We will definitely be returning and hopefully sooner than later. Plus nice outdoor seating.

Google
Pretty chill, quiet place even on a weekend, but good food and drinks! My favorite was the arugula baked goat cheese salad. I would have liked if the Patatas bravas had the crema in addition to the spicy sauce. Sangria pitcher was fun too! Server was friendly, it was a little buggy sitting outside though by the plants (which were a kind of overgrown).

Google
Great tapas place in the heart of the south end! We came here for a socially distant dinner, and were treated quite well. The octopus, flan, chicken empanadas, and lamb sliders in particular were highlights. Drinks were tasty as well and made for the summer. Apart from service being a tad sluggish, this was definitely a good experience and would definitely visit again.

Yelp
Came for Dine Out Boston and we were happy we picked this place. For drinks, we got the hibiscus margarita, which was very delicious and strong. We basically got all the different options they gave (4 dishes - 1 starter, 2 main, and 1 dessert). Our favorite was the CARRILLADA (beef cheek). It was so soft and melt in your mouth. But everything we ate was delicious, just a lot to mention. And we added paella mixto as an addition to our experience, extremely filling and lots of flavor. Overall, it was an amazing experience, will go again when it's their regular menu.

Yelp
So delicious (the toasts are a must try!! You get to chose 4 flavors), and the service was amazing. Our waitress was incredibly kind and made us feel very comfortable. The inside aesthetic was also very cool & swanky. Would absolutely go back again!!

Yelp
Cool interior, decent food, yummy drinks. We came for Dine Out Boston and we left super full and satisfied. Though I wouldn't say this place serves the best tapas in town, I would say their menu options are quite unique! Personally loved the croquetas, skewers, and their bread. Their sangria was also yummy. Service was also really nice and attentive. They served the food at a good pace and frequently checked in on how we were doing (it wasn't overbearing). The only thing I would note is the price -- definitely on the pricy side but the portions are pretty decent!

Nathan S.

Yelp
Unfortunately was not thrilled with this. I had much higher expectations than what was delivered. The Paella was unfortunately bland and dry. The oxtail and scallops were less than desirable. I was really hoping to enjoy this but I have to say it was a big let down I will say that the goat cheese salad was very tasty - was not expecting this to be the highlight of the night though. The drinks and ambiance were fun. I'm sure some of the other dishes are tasty, but unfortunately I would never consider coming back.

Yelp
The inside is spacious and quiet, with fun furniture. A group of four of us went for Dine Out Boston on a Friday night, but it didn't get busy until around 7:30pm. Our server was friendly and welcoming, and had great recommendations. I think it's a sign of a great restaurant when the staff tells us about something they personally like on the menu. They gave us bread in a paper bag, which I thought was interesting. In Spain they put bread right on the table (no plate), so maybe the paper bag thing was a compromise. The food is good, but be careful not to order too many fried/greasy things. Must-order items: -Datiles Rellenos: soft plump dates filled with a smooth, sweet blue-cheese filling that warms up the palate. Heavenly. -Alcachofas: artichokes fried to a light, crispy perfection matched with a decadent yet light, creamy aioli -Xocolata: creamy chocolatey goodness paired interestingly with olive oil and salt, rich without feeling weighed down by it Would order again items: -Chicharron: very snackable crispy pork belly with a refreshing red salsa. The aioli tasted like ranch for some reason. -Pisto Manchego: flavor of a ratatouille but in the form of a shakshuka (bread goes really well) -Gambas al Ajillo: I am usually not a fan of shrimp, but the texture and flavors were quite perfect. I'd say it's not super interesting, but it's a solid choice you probably can't go wrong with -Tarta de Santiago: super moist almond cake made without gluten with hints of orangey floral scents. The ice cream accompanying it had nice real vanilla flavor Maybe will replace items: -Pintxo de Txangurro y Langosta: lobster and crab meat on toast, creamy and more crab-forward than lobster. -Bienmesabe: spices came through well, and fried texture was great, but the fish was a bit too chewy -Filete de Bacalao: fish but tasted interestingly like shellfish - white fish with a white sauce, but no particular flavor profile/personality -Embutidos de Iberico: I don't usually order charcuterie at a restaurant, but the cuts were unique. Only meat comes out though. Would not get again items: -Carrillada: the soup is flavorful and the meat is super tender, but the meat had no flavor in it - as if the soup had taken away all of the flavor -Crema Catalana: the flavor was a bit too eggy and it was not set enough -Pera al Vino: nothing special about it - the wine flavor didn't come through at all

Yelp
What a gem! From the instant ambiance of being transported to another country and era, Estragon doesn't disappoint. Each dish and drink were superb, service was phenomenal and we were having such a wonderful time that we forgot to take any photos of our food or ourselves!

Yelp
This is a great place to come with a group of friends and try a bunch of delicious different tapas! I LOVED the chicken skewers and the salmon empanada. My friends and I came during dine-out Boston restaurant week and it was a great deal for the food we got. The desserts also were all so delicious. I think we got all the protein / carb heavy options when we came to make the most of the dine-out menu so it felt very heavy but there definitely were lots of vegetable options.

Yelp
Update 2022! We come here all the time!! The bartender that I previously mentioned has been gone for a few years now. Now we have Sahil who is literally amazing! I love seeing him every time we visit. Our go to items are still the same. Estragon has been super consistent over the years! Gambas Al Ajillo - Big shrimp! Perfectly garlicky Chuletillas de cordero - Love this and we order it every single time. The lamb is a perfect medium rare and the cauliflower mash is sooo good! We rotate through a few other things (patatas/croquettes) and will randomly try something new once in a while. We had the carrillada (braised pork cheeks) and it was a great portion as well as a nice change from our typical choices. We've also recently tried the xoxolata (chocolate mousse with olive oil). Omg to die for. Don't forget to mix the olive oil in BEFORE taking a bite.

Yelp
Came by for dinner yesterday. The ambience was really vibey and the service was attentive. Ordered the tapas on toasts and got the Pringa, Alcachofa, Txangurro y Langosta, and the Higaditos de Pollo. I really enjoyed the Higaditos de Polla and the Txangurro y Langosta (the sauce was a little too creamy but overall enjoyed)

Yelp
I came here during Dine Out Boston. I had a reservation on a Friday night and was seated within minutes. It was pretty loud, so it was hard to have a conversation even with the waiter. The service was good, and we didn't have to wait too long for our food. We did miss one order and got a different dish given how busy it was. Bienmesabe (crispy adobo fish): 4/5 - pretty good but could've used a sauce Croquetas De Jamon: 4/5 - tasty but was a tad salty Alcachofas (artichokes): 5/5 Patatas Bravas: 3/5 - wasn't anything special, just fried potatoes with a neutral-tasting sauce Gambas Al Ajillo (garlic shrimp): 2/5 - no garlic flavor, tasted like boiled shrimp with oil Lamburguesitas: 3/5 - nothing special, tasted too gamey for me Chicharron: 5/5 - crispy and wasn't too salty, tasted better with the sauce Carrillada (beef shank): 2/5 - underwhelming and there was a weird flavor in the meat Xocolata (choco mousse): 5/5 - light and fluffy, very chocolatey and the olive oil wasn't too off-putting Churros: 4/5 - not too sweet and looked homemade I was excited to try this place given the amount of good reviews, but my experience was just okay. None of the tapas really amazed me. I'm not sure if it's because it was during Dine Out Boston or it was later at night, but I probably wouldn't come back again.

Yelp
Food and cocktails were delicious. Moors last sigh was my fav cocktail I even took a pic to get the recipe. Ambiance is nice, vintage type decor

Yelp
I've been here a few times to celebrate various work occasions, but most recently I came here for Dine Out Boston with friends! I love Estragon because they have a pretty large menu and all of the food is truly amazing as it's super flavorful. My favorite dishes overall are the Tortilla Espanola, Garbanzos Fritos, Gambas al Ajillo and Croquetas de Jamón. During restaurant week, I decided to try different things here with my friends, specifically items that aren't on their usual menu. To start off, I got the hibiscus margarita. I didn't really like this drink in all honesty. I thought it was a bit too sour for my liking. In terms of food, I really liked their Salpicon de Mariscos, which was octopus, mussels, shrimp & squid dressed in Spanish vinaigrette. The seafood was very fresh and paired well with the vinaigrette. My friends and I also got the Gambas Al Ajillo, which is sauteed garlic shrimp. This is one of my all-time favorite dishes here. You can ask for extra bread to dip the olive oil/garlic sauce in and it's absolutely delicious. For dessert, I got their Crema Catalana, which is essentially like a creme brulee. This was really good as well, but not as creamy as I would have liked it. I enjoyed how it tasted though! I also tried their churros, which were a bit hard on the inside. I also wish they gave us more chocolate for the churros. My favorite dessert here is easily their Xocolata, which is a chocolate mousse. This is an olive oil mousse with some flakey salt that really brings out the richness of the chocolate. The mousse is also very smooth and a great way to end a meal here. Overall, when I was working around here, it was a nice place to grab a meal with coworkers after work. The vibes and atmosphere of the place are very chill and cozy. However, parking is fairly difficult around here. It is all metered street parking and it is near Boston Medical Center. I really like Estragon, but some of their dishes are on the pricier end.

Yelp
We ordered several dishes in part to have a basis to review. Here's what we found. Service and atmosphere: very good, though location is in a bit of a desolate part of the south end if I'm honest Drinks: solid A: both the frida kahlo and gimlet were excellent Really really good: Patatas bravas Alcachofas (fried artichokes) Shishitos Good: Gambas (shrimp with garlic) Ok: Fried chick peas (sort of a bar snack, not bad if you set your expectations appropriately) Not good: cod bacaloa Tasted a bit rubbery and fishy, they comped that dish Overall we're comparing this to Barcelona and Toro, both of which are better, but on the other hand Estragon is an easier reservation.

Yelp
Loved it. I ate here relatively early so it was empty at first. But it got really busy, really quickly . The restaurant is on the smaller side but cute. The food was amazing! Chorizo, empanadas, homestyle potato's, chicken skewers, garlic shrimp, braised beef, croquettes, lamb, etc etc. I've had Spanish tapas before and this place really reminded me why I loved them so much. The depth! The flavor! New breeding of spices and flavors that was so pleasing to the palette. I had to ask for extra bread to dunk that bad boy into the sauces and scrape what's left. My favorite was the chorizo. So delicate and yet so bold. My least favorite was the garlic shrimp. Overall a beautiful experience.

Yelp
This was actually my second visit to Estragon and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. My friends and I shared a pitcher of the Hibiscus Margarita, which I would recommend if you're drinking with 4+ people. It was a bit strong, but I enjoyed the flavor and portion size. Dishes I would absolutely ordered again: - croquettes - calamari (great portion size + flavor) - brussel sprouts (loved the chorizo + raisins that came with it) - baby octopus (great flavor!) - chicken empanadas (crunchy & delicious) These 5 dishes absolutely made our night. Everything came in great portion sizes, which meant that was lots to go around for a party of 6. This visit, we ordered the paella mixta, but I prefer the paella with the squid ink because it offers a deeper and more unique flavor. Because paellas take a bit longer to cook, I would recommend ordering that ASAP to get that started in the kitchen (maybe even order it first before you dive into the menu to order the other items). Server was quick and attentive - overall I'd come again :)

Yelp
Delicious, affordable, and extremely friendly staff! TONS of vegetarian options! We stopped by on a Tuesday evening over the holidays because we were craving Tapas but Barcelona had a long waiting list. Estragon did not disappoint!! The food: We ordered 4 toasts for appetizers: 1) QUESO DE CABRA (warm goat cheese & tomato): warm, creamy, and rich 2) HIGADITOS DE POLLO (sauteed chicken liver): super tasty, and would come in second place after the alcachofa :) 3) ALCACHOFA (marinated artichoke): my personal favorite of all 4!! DELICIOUS blend of flavors, as the honey complemented the artichoke in a way I did not expect. 4) FALDA CON CABRALES (grilled skirt steak): the only toast I do not recommend. It lacked flavor and was disappointing. Vegetables: PATATAS BRAVAS: as other reviews mention, these are a must. Crunchy on the outside, tender and fluffy on the inside. Perfection. Pisto Manchego: a Spanish ratatouille that comes out in a mini cast-iron man and resembled shakshuka. Packed with braised eggplant that you scoop up with a baguette. PULPO A LA PARRILLA: grilled octopus and potatoes. I had big hopes for this but it unfortunately fell flat. The octopus didn't have any flavor but the dish could really be elevated with a sauce or dressing. Wouldn't order again. Overall, this is a charming and quaint spot with extremely friendly staff and close to no wait time. I can't wait to be back and try the stuffed dates! Our server strongly recommended the Pringa but I don't eat pork-- worth a shot for other fellow Yelpers!

Yelp
Date night!!!! Perfect place for it. The ambiance was great and the staff was super friendly. We grabbed a reservation for one of the last nights of Restaurant Week. We were a bit early, but they seated us at the bar until our table was ready. They have an extensive drink list and we had some delicious sips. The food was so good!!! I cannot wait to return and try new things with friends. This venue provides a great opportunity to share tapas and try a variety of items. My favorite part... DESSERT!!! That almond cake was made with love.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice tapas spot, romantic and a very European vibe. Meatballs were great, bruschetta flight was so-so, drinks on par. Great server from Dorchester that made it a wonderful experience! Made a reservation but didn't need one on wed night.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here for Valentine's Day dinner and really enjoyed our meal! We chose this place because we really wanted paella, and it certainly did not disappoint! They have 2 different types and we ordered the combo that came with both of them (Sol y Sombra). It's meant for 4 and it was definitely A LOT but we really liked trying both, plus we were able to take a good amount home! Between the two, my favorite was the arroz negro with the squid ink rice. It was so unique and flavorful. The paella mixta was really good too though! For tapas we ordered the chicken empanadas, patatas bravas, and only 2 croquetas because our waiter said it would be way too much food if we got a full order! The chicken empanadas were my fave. The crust was SO delicious and absolutely perfectly flakey! The others were pretty good too but for me, nothing to rave about. Now the sangria however, I really enjoyed as well. We ended up getting a pitcher for the two of us and it was just enough! In the beginning, it took a long while for our waiter to come over and say hello and take our order, but it was made up for later in the dinner! He was super friendly and really helped us with our order choices. The vibe and atmosphere of the place was really cool and kind of cozy as well. I would certainly come back!

Yelp
My friends made a reservation here for a Friday evening - when we first arrived it wasn't crowded, but became a bit as time went on. My boyfriend got the urban myth mojito and our friend got the dada spritz (as recommended by our waiter) - both enjoyed their drinks. I tasted both and thought they were really yummy. We split a bunch of tapas - patatas bravas, alcachofa, pista manchego, carrillada, crab filled pepper special, and paella mixta. Everything tasted great and service was amazing. I definitely recommend!!

Yelp
In the mood for tapas, I let Yelp guide me during a quick trip to Boston. I was one of only a few tables, but I had a great meal. I ordered the fried chickpeas and the baby octopus special. I had trouble deciding between the special and the grilled octopus dish. The special was flavored well but overcooked. My server quickly offered to switch it for the grilled octopus which ended up being so delicious. I also had some yummy cocktails. I would definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Bobby B.

Yelp
Overpriced and underwhelming. Trying to be a Barcelona copy cat, but without the vibes and/or the flavors. The cocktails are however appropriately spun up!

Yelp
FAR SUPERIOR to Barcelona Wine Bar and Toro, both also in the South End. I have travelled to Spain several times and I can fairly state that Estragon is the most authentic Spanish Tapas restaurant in the downtown Boston area. I loved how the menu provided the most popular Spanish dishes, such as datilles (dates), croquetas, and patatas bravas. Everything was still hot as it came fresh to our tables. The croquetas in particular were utterly mouthwatering and perfectly crispy. (If you try to order croquetas at Barcelona or Toro, they will give you a variation that is not at all authentic). I particularly loved the special dish of crab stuffed peppers. Our waiter was extremely kind and I felt that our food had been prepared with love! We accompanied our food with a pitcher of Sangria ($40) but was well-portioned for 4 of us. This is a great place to take your vegetarian friends as well--there were great veggie options such as empanadas, etc. I went with my girlfriends but I also saw people on dates, too. The vibe inside was romantic but not overdone--you can wear smart casual for dinner. I wish this place would get more positive rave!!! It seems like a hidden gem for those who truly know Spanish food. Definitely would recommend this place over its competitors--you will have such an enjoyable time dining here!

Aneri P.

Yelp
SO mediocre, especially for the price! You're better off going to Barcelona wine bar (even though it's a chain). Honestly didn't enjoy anything and I ordered everything based on what was recommended by other diners in Yelp. I'm always looking for local south end restaurants to support but this one did not make the cut.

Trisha A.

Yelp
Giving Estragon 3.5 stars .. but I'll round up to 4. Dine out Boston tapas .. Choice of 4 tapas for $33. I came here with 2 other people, so we had a variety of tapas we were able to try! Favorites were the croquettes de jamon, sautéed garlic shrimp, veal empanada, and the Jonah crabbed stuffed peppers. The patatas bravas + the Shishito peppers were good as that's hard to mess up on. Unfortunately, I felt that our other tapas were mediocre. We ask for medium rare on our grilled rib eye .. and it was way over cooked. The baby octopus had no flavor (but I recommend to smoother it in the garlic shrimp sauce). Monkfish was bland.. I didn't taste any adobo seasoning on it. For dessert we ordered the chocolate churros, flan and chocolate mousse. If you order the churros and mousse ... make sure to dip that churro in that chocolate .. as it made it taste so much better! It was very busy that evening, so service was a tad slow for my liking. But, we knew our waiter was a hard worker and very kind!

Yelp
Came here during Dining Out Week. It's such a cool and inviting space. It has a retro European vibe with old French and Spanish posters scattered around the restaurant and a bookshelf in one corner. The Dining Out menu let you choose a starter, two main tapas and a dessert. One thing my friends and I realized is not every menu item are the same portion size. I felt I got less food overall compared to some of my friends. My favorite was the meatballs. The fig old fashioned cocktail I got was okay. I couldn't really taste any fig. I mostly tasted the rye whiskey and they served it with crushed ice. If a place does that they've already gone down the wrong path. Cracking open a cocktail book might help. The food was good but I might wait awhile before heading back.

Yelp
Had a date night with my daughter and we shared every order. We started off with a ham croquette which was creamy inside and a little crunch to the outside. Had the sauce on the side for the potatoes since my daughter might not like it. The service was wonderful because they can accommodate my picky eater. Baby lamb chops were made to perfection (medium) my favorite was the chicken liver with raisin toast. On a side note, they do not have any more happy hours or Tapa blitz at the bar so if you were thinking of sitting at the bar for it then forget it.

Yelp
I tried Estragon yesterday evening for dinner! My friends and I had an assortment of tapas: Patatas Bravas (potatoes with salsa), Esparragos Con Romesco (grilled asparagus), Empanadlas de Verduras (spinach and artichoke turnovers), Pulpo La Gallega (grilled octopus), Pincho de Pollo (chicken skewers), and the croquetas de jamon! We also had a pitcher of the hibiscus margarita. My favorites were the octopus which was grilled nicely, potatoes which were perfectly crispy with a generous drizzle of the salsa sauce , and chicken skewers which tasted great with a squeeze of lemon juice. Max and Bryan provided great service. Oh and the ambiance is really nice, you can get some get design tips and even book recommendations here

Yelp
This was place was pretty average for tapas. The food was pretty good, and there was a decently sized selection of food and drinks. For this price though, I think I can get dinner at a much nicer place with higher quality dishes. Dinner was about $300 for 4 people, and it was just the right amount of food. I think 2-3 tapas per person is enough, but of the dishes we ordered, nothing really stood out to me. Parking was surprisingly easy to find on a Saturday night. It's mostly metered parking, but there was plenty of space when we arrived. There were also quite a few empty tables when we got there too, but once it hit 8pm, the whole place was full. I would say this is a nice place to catch up over drinks and shared tapas, but nothing else really stands out to me. We did find our waiter to be pretty impressive. He didn't take any notes when we placed our order (10+ dishes and 2 drinks all at once), and he got almost everything right. The only thing he got wrong was the seafood paella he brought out, when we ordered the squid ink paella. Still pretty impressed!

Thomas M.

Yelp
Tapas food, great selection. Every dish was excellent. Great service. Sangria good. Hibiscus Margaritas outstanding. Highly recommended

Yelp
This was such a good dinner!!! First of all our waiter was so knowledgeable and gave us all the best recommendations. We started with a nice bottle of Spanish red which was delicious. Not too expensive either! Our first dish was the scallops. And omg. They were cooked perfectly and the sauce it was in might have been my favorite thing ever. We then had the calamari (cooked perfectly and not chewy) and two of the toasts... one with skirt steak and one with pulled beef. They were both so good. We also mixed in a veggie with the goat cheese arugula salad with pomegranates and walnuts. That was okay! We also had the lamb sliders. They were good but a little dry. I felt like they needed a little more of the chutney on them. We had the stuffed peppers with crab meat in them. So good... so unfortunate this was a special because it would do great on the menu! We finished with the bbq flatbread. There was a lot there. The portions are huge for tapas. Every time something came we were surprised at how much we got. We got the churros for a birthday surprise and the waiter brought us over some shots to celebrate the birthday! It was so nice. The vibes were immaculate and the decor was very nice. This is a great spot and I could not recommend it more.

Yelp
Food was good, service was better. Grilled eggplant /Zuchini with asparagus was delicious and perfect summer food. Vegetable flatbread with a perfectly thin crispy crust was delicious The Queso Ala Plancha was average, probably wouldn't get it again.

Yelp
The food was horrible no taste on anything , we ordered 6 dishes. We left 2 things uneaten. The service was awful:( everything took ages to come.

Yelp
We Visited Estragon for restaurant week 2020 and found the tapas dishes to be a bit hit or miss. We ordered (savory): +chorizo a la Sidra (chorizo) +tortilla espanola (potato, egg omelet) +pulpo a la parrilla (fried octopus) +calamares Fritos (calamari) +ensalada andaluza (crab salad stuffed in peppers) +carrilada de cerdo (beef cheek) The chorizo, calamares, and carrilada de cerdo were the best out of the tapas we ordered. The beef cheeks were tender, flavorful, and fell apart like butter. The chorizo was packed with flavor and just salty enough to leave you satisfied. And the calamari was fried but didn't leave you feeling bogged down or overly bready (which is super hard to achieve, so kudos)! The others were pretty generic and lacked the flavors to really elevate them. They provide paper menus or you can simply search on your phone (didn't see a QR code here!) but really clear food menu / drink menu. The ambiance felt like we were in our own space and had some really romantic and intimate vibes - such a great date spot. Also, fantastic complying with the 6ft rule for Covid...I felt super safe and separated from everyone. The server was super attentive and friendly, even during Covid times. Our waters were always filled, and she checked up on us frequently to see if we needed anything else. I just wish they spaced out the tapas a bit better - I felt like I was eating way too slow at the pace in which the tapas were coming out and the table got super crowded really quickly. We ended the night with the churros and flan. The flan was fantastic - not overly sweet and creamy enough to be a light way to end the night. The Churros on the other hand were a total fail. It was very hard and difficult to chew. They weren't coated in cinnamon or sugar so it tasted like stale bread with sallows of chocolate over it. Overall, a very strange and bland tasting churro. I would recommend getting the flan over anything else! Location wise, not the best in terms of poppin neighborhoods and was a bit of a quieter, residential area which made it seem a bit eerie and isolated (also parking was a pain!). However, the space is very cute and they offer outdoor "street seating" which is adorable with the sky lights! I don't think I would go out of my way to dine here again but appreciated the flavors of some of the tapas and liked the overall ambiance of the place for a more sophisticated place to dine!

Yelp
We went to Estrogen for the Dine Out Boston Dinner menu. The Dine Out Boston Dinner is $41 per person, which is 3 courses, consisting of 4 tapas. A major pro is the variety of tapas (28 different tapas) on the Dine Out Boston menu. My husband and I had: First Course: Chorizos braised in hard cider - 5/5 for Taste Serrano ham croquets - 5/5 Second Course: Sautéed Garlic Shrimp: 4/5 (The Shrimp was a nice size, however the sauce was not as garlicky as we would have liked). Sautéed cod fillet, saffron-albarino cream: 5/5 (The fish was perfectly cooked and delicious!) Braised pork cheeks, rioja jus: 4/5 (The pork cheeks were very tender, however it was a bit under seasoned) Beef meatballs, herbed brandy cream: 4/5 (The meatballs were a bit bland.) Third Course: Churros - 4/5 (Hot and crunchy with chocolate sauce for dipping. Good that it was not overly sweet. The texture of the churros were a bit denser than we would have liked.) Tarta (Spanish almond cake, vanilla ice cream) - 5/5 I had the Delta Dawn cocktail. It was delicious and strong! If you like strong drinks, this cocktail might be for you.

Yelp
Come for the tapas, stay for the cocktails and the extremely friendly service ( special shout out to our server on the patio, who's designed the cocktails!) It's a nice neighborhood joint- good food, good ambience, away from the bustle of the rest of town- basically a place you wished you had in your own neighborhood!

Yelp
Estragon was lovely! I went with family, as group of 5, of whom 3 were vegetarian. The menu was not only very vegetarian friendly, but well-priced! The cocktails were interesting and accompanied the food nicely. Staff and service were great. Highlights included the Pimientos Shishitos, Esparrragos a la Parrilla y Romesco (asparagus), Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp) , Patatas Bravas (potatoes), and Empanadillas de Verduras (artichoke, spinach, and cheese) . The Garbanzos Fritos (chickpeas) needed a sprinkle of salt, but they were happy to provide salt and pepper, when asked. They also provided some fantastic bread (in paper bags, as others have mentioned, and I have no good explanation for this) that sopped up any sauce. Many compare this to Toro, which I love and is excellent. But I thought this had not only more, but better vegetarian options, so please keep that in mind, if that's important to you.

Yelp
Pure deliciousness. Like legit Spanish tapas as if you were along el Parque del Retiro in Madrid. Whether eating inside or out on their patio the service is great & friendly. I think their food is super tasty, really well done. It may be on the pricey side but what can you do. It's nice to have actual veg*n options which are also well stated on the menu. I thought the espinacas were amazing as well as the esparragos, the veggie empanadas were a bit overdone though. I would say their sangria needs more fruit though aside from limes & lemons. They have lovely cocktails worth checking out. Do not miss out on dessert either, totally worth getting the chocolate mousse.

Yelp
Solid tapas place. Very very authentic. Not trying to fusion or Americanize it. Had a variety of tapas that were all excellent. Cocktails were good as well only reason not 5 stars is service was good but spotty and for the love of all tapas everywhere please please please more bread.

Yelp
Came here the other night for the tapas happy hour! (Tapas ranging from 2 to $5, Monday - Thursday from 5 pm to 7). They only offer this deal at the bar, which was full when we arrived, so we had to be pretty persistent and wait about 15 minutes before snagging a spot. Ambience is nice. Checkered floor, quirky furniture, varied seating, twinkly lights and book shelves! Service at the bar was quick and consistent. We pretty much ordered everything on the menu. In general, the food was pretty good, but keep in mind that portions from the happy hour menu are quite small. (You'll need to order a lot!) The real stand-out dish for me was the chorizo, which was packed with flavor and tasted truly authentic. We wrapped up dinner with a chocolate olive oil mousse topped with maldon salt. Overall a solid experience!

Yelp
Went here on a date for the happy hour menu and was not disappointed. Our favorite was the Huevo Roto ($5), which is a fried egg over salty, crunchy fries-- so good that we ended up ordering another. The Manchego y Jamon is good and great for the happy hour price ($2); I personally would skip the Patatas Alioli ($2), which is like a potato salad, but I don't really love potatoes all that much. The Mini Chorizo a La Cidra were great ($5), and we used the extra cider to dip the fries in...yum! The Coca Mini was good for the price ($5)-- a very small pizza with BBQ beef and parmesan. All of the above are happy hour prices and only available between 5-7 at the bar. The best part was that I had the best drink of my recent life, Delta Dawn, with bourbon, lemon, and peach. I wanted to order another but a) we didn't have time and b) it wasn't large for the price. Excited to go back!

Yelp
I hovered between a three and a four star, because this restaurant was good, but not great. And I'm a big big big fan of salt, but they really use quite a lot of salt in their food... The meatballs are almost too salty to eat -I was especially looking forward to dipping my crusty bread into the creamy meatball sauce, but it was almost as though the sauce is comprised of just cream and beef bouillon cubes. Definitely could not even eat the sauce. The cocktails were good, service was friendly and it's in a nice location. I might go back and give it another try, but looking at some of the other dishes, they didn't seem to be plated it very beautifully and to me that just speaks of hired help in the kitchen that don't really care all that much... Good concept, good menu, probably worth one more try...

Yelp
Underrated affordable tapas in a quiet stretch of the South End. Recently came back after a first visit about 4 years ago and the memory did not disappoint. We shared the tortilla espanola, patatas bravas, goat cheese salad, spinach and artichoke empanadas, Brussels sprouts, jamon croquettes, and stuffed trout. Favorites were the empanadas, tortilla and goat cheese. The Brussels were a little soggy. Wine selection was impressive and very reasonably priced. For dessert we shared the olive oil chocolate mousse. My husband loved it but I wish it had a stronger chocolate flavor.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't reviewed Estragon before. I've been coming to this gem for years. Sahil and Tony on the bar make you feel like you are at home -- if your home was filled with amazing tapas (paella is also outrageously good) and a fully stocked bar with a creative drink menu. Every Monday night I "work late" and come to Estragon for 2 items off their tapas menu and 2(ish) grapefruit gimlets. This is also a great meeting spot no matter where in Boston you are -- the bar is typically full, but you can always get a seat with no more than a short wait in the main dining room. The ambiance is spot on as well. Its a fun quirky feel and I've gone here with a wide range of folks from my mom to client prospects. It's also a favorite for members of my team as we come here to celebrate wins or commiserate on the week. TLDR: Come here and embrace the atmosphere, be amazed by the food and prices, dabble in delicious drinks, and appreciate the best bar service in Boston I've ever had. BONUS: There is always ample parking right out front too.

Yelp
The food was amazing! I like everything I ordered. The waiter was really nice, and all the dishes he recommended were all worthy to try! I will definitely come back again.

Yelp
Delicious tapas! Loved the dragon fruit margarita. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine. I wish I had more pictures to share but we devoured everything within minutes and ordered seconds when we could. This should be everyone's first choice for tapas in Boston!

Yelp
Came here because I purchased a Groupon. Estragon upon arrival had promise. The restaurant was buzzing- although front service was staggering and we were not seated immediately even though we had a reservation. However, our experience and the food here was mediocre. We ordered the following: stuffed dates (absolutely delicious), octopus (terrible and borderline disgusting- not only was the octopus chewy but it tasted like burnt oil), stuffed fish (delicious), lamb chops with cauliflower mash (lamb chops were delicious and the mash was terrible and tasteless like baby food), empanadas (terrible-the crust was not flaky at all. It was so hard and seemed over cooked.), and ham and cheese croquettes (terrible-all bread and no cheese or ham). To add to the food being mediocre, the servers became confused and started parading our stuffed fish across the restaurant, unsure of who's table to deliver it to. That little stunt put a bad taste in our mouth and we opted out of indulging in dessert. We will definitely not be back here.
