Weary is a destination restaurant. It reports to be a robatayaki restaurant. Not quite, it's basically a beach grill restaurant with a Japanese theme. I've been to robatayaki restaurants in Japan, and not quite the real thing. Not to say the food isn't good and the restaurant not a great presentation. It's on the beach and well run, staff are friendly and skilled. I sat at the outdoor bar and the two bartenders were attentive and friendly. I had three dishes: oysters, tiger prawns, and the Tomahawk Wagyu, along with some chilled unfiltered Nihonshu (sake). Service and the first two dishes were great. However, things fell apart with the Tomahawk Wagyu. First, it wasn't Wagyu, but either American or Australian Wagyu, which isn't the same thing as real Wagyu. I obviously knew this without having to be told, but for those who don't know the difference, it should have been on the menu. This is not to say this wasn't good beef. But I ordered it medium and, as for many restaurants, there is some strange and deliberate policy to undercook beef. Supposedly this is to same money on labor, relying on the tendency of people to not send back unsatisfactory dishes. This saves only pennies, but separates restaurants dedicated to quality from those just in it for the money. So, my Tomahawk Wagyu cam me out very rare, so I sent it back. People, you need to do this. If a dish comes out unsatisfactory, send it back. Quality is both important and an obligation or responsibility of the chef de cuisine. So, it came back properly cooked and it was delicious. Why didn't the sous-chefs do it correct the first time? I don't know, but it is a real problem. You can do better! Another fail was that I ordered rice with the beef, but that never appeared until I was almost completely finished with the Wagyu. You can do better.
