"Shaw is down an Ethiopian restaurant. Etete, a long-running occupant of 1942 9th Street NW, just closed. Etete underwent a lengthy renovation in 2017 that included modernizing the space and menu. It reportedly cost $500,000, according to the Washington Post, and debuted refined small plates inspired by the flavors of Ethiopian cuisine." - Adele Chapin

Came solo on a Tuesday, the food was very good, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. It was a pretty quiet night, and the atmosphere was nice and cozy.

Party of 11. Table ready when we arrived, ultra attentive staff. Extremely friendly and welcoming. Food was absolutely amazing. Not traditional Ethiopian, but that's what was even more amazing. Flavors popped in every dish we had!

The customer service here is a little rough around the edges, but the food makes up for it. The menu has a great variety of meats and vegetarian options, though no lamb for some reason. This was my first experience with Ethiopian and I'm so glad. Everything was delicious and I can't wait to continue trying more.

The blandest Ethiopian food I've eaten in some time. The veggie combo was as tasty as hospital food. Very disappointed. The owners must be catering to a different clientele as the place was packed...no self respecting Ethiopian would accept the flavorless food as authentic. Decor and cleanliness was outstanding but service harried and not too friendly. Oh, yes, portions were pathetic. Paying good money for such a small portion of bland food is disturbing, to say the least

Terrible experience! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! Food is not very good, other Ethiopian restaurants like Queen of Sheba are much better. The service is terrible and you have to be careful because they will try to play you. They told us that with each meat entree you get a veggie side, and then they charge you the veggie as an entree. They are extremely expensive, and then they complain if you don't leave a tip more than 20%. DON'T GO!!! THERE ARE MUCH BETTER AND DECENT ETHIOPIAN RESTAURANTS THAN THIS PLACE!!

Before Etete went through the renovations, it was hands down the best Ethiopian restaurant in DC. Oh how I miss the original derek tibs recipe! This new Etete is certainly trying to cater to a different crowd, and I felt the Ethiopian-inspired recipes were just okay. The building's new decor is certainly beautiful. Overall, this restaurant may be great for someone who is trying Ethiopian food for the first time.

Food was good. The atmosphere and decor are beautiful. Service was poor. The server never came back after he took our order and got our drinks. We had to flag another server down for everything else that we needed. The first server said that the veggie platter is enough food for 2 people but it isn't.

This place is really awesome! I think it's really underrated on here. Derek tibs very tasty and their veggie sampler with fish also good. My friends favorite was the collard greens and mine is the red lentils that have carrots and no cinnamon in it. Would visit again and again if it was closer! Favorite Ethiopian place in DC so far :)
