The Best Soul Food In NYC

"Named after the chef’s mother and grandmother, this Crown Heights spot has only been around since 2021, but it’s well on its way to becoming a soul food mainstay. This is mostly a takeout spot, but there’s exactly one table for two in front of a wall of quotes from artists like Outkast and Nas. We’re into the fried catfish and fall-off-the-bone turkey ribs, and they also have pretty much every side you would want. There are vegetable options like yams and collards as well as heavier sides like mac and cheese and coconut rice with beans. You should absolutely end your meal with banana pudding every time." - carina finn koeppicus, bryan kim, neha talreja, kenny yang

WOW! The food was delicious, exceeded any expectations, service was great! I am so happy I stopped in for dinner. I got the Jerk Salmon - mouthwatering delicious, perfectly cooked & flavored Coconut Rice & beans - perfect coconut flavor, rice was cooked just right Collard greens - very tasty Mac n cheese - soooo goood! It was the perfect ratio of macaroni to cheese Dessert: Nana’s pudding & I’m so glad they weren’t sold out because it was the best I ever had. It was nice and fluffy, right amount of cookies and bananas. The portions were generous as well and the packaging kept everything from mixing and spilling. Inside was very festive and decorated for valentines, great music! This is one of my new favorite restaurants. Overall everything was perfect & I’ll be back!

Made it back to NYC for the first time in 3 years and stopped by Ethel & Annie Mae's Soul Food Kitchen because the owner told I should. Let me tell the first thing that stands out is how clean everything looks. Her signage is clear and we'll written you know your in a good place. The service was on point. Now the most important is the food. We ordered The Shrimp Po Boy, Crab and Lobster Mac n Cheese. My partner ordered a turkey burger which he loved. He stated you would be surprised how many people mess up a turkey burger by overcooking it and he felt the one at Annie Mae's was soft and juice and he really enjoyed it. I would say to anyone in the Crown Heights area or you should just travel to Crown Heights check out Annie Mae's Soul Food Kitchen and make sure that you talk to Chef Danielle she's always there and I'm going to tell you the food is fantastic

Ethel & Annie Mae's food is hearty, tasty, and the definition of comfort food. Happened upon this place through UberEats and decided to walk there since it was a short trip. The front is small and cozy with an easy-to-read whiteboard showing the day's menu, the lovely ladies inside were very friendly, and the food came out fast and hot. I picked up some incredible turkey ribs (fall-off-the-bone good) with a Nana Pudding for dessert. The plate in my picture has more food options than my specific meal came with since I traded with my partner, and it was all as good as it looks. This place is a great find.

I got here AT LEAST once a week (so often that I can just say “I’ll take my usual” and they know exactly what I mean). The service is great and my food is always hot, fresh, and delicious. Grateful to have a soul food spot right in my neighborhood with good portions, decent pricing, and a frequently updated menu! PS: the mango lemonade goes great with vodka (or your choice of alcohol)!

The fried potatoes did not taste bad and the wings were okay . I feel like I’ll come back for something that would wow me . The mango lemonade drink tasted good too.

imagine thinking you were gonna get a nice, delicious nana pudding cheesecake to have with your family on thanksgiving & instead you get a sloppy thrown together dessert that looks nothing like it did on the social media & was falling apart when you picked it up and then when you contact them they try to blame you for the poorly put together cake & did nothing to try and rectify the situation . also no one liked the cake and said it tasted “spoiled” so you had to throw it out . Added : yes this thing was picked up the next day because in the voicemail that Jessica left she said that i could pick it up the next day . still doesn’t excuse the poor presentation and taste of this .

This chicken sammich I had was absolutely perfect and incredible. And those fries were perfect in my mouth. Thanks Chef Danielle. Can't wait to come back for more.

When trying to support a black business go WRONG! I ordered Salmon w/ mac&cheese, yams, cabbage, and stuffing. The only thing edible - stuffing and yams, everything else was tasteless and BURNT! First and last time supporting this restaurant. No business should NEVER be okay selling food like this!
