"A star in Houston’s French dining scene, Etoile is an essential restaurant to add to your list. Helmed by a husband-and-wife duo (chef France Philippe Verpiand and Monica Bui), the restaurant offers classic and modern dishes like wild boar ragout bolognese, an impeccable coq au vin, buttery escargots de Bourgogne, creamy lobster bisque, and fresh catches served with beurre blanc and sauteed vegetables. Dessert here is also an affair, with a standout cheese plate, a decadent apple tarte a la mode, and a warm chocolate pastilla with mango gel and coconut sorbet." - Brittany Britto Garley, Sean Hekmat

Google
French food is not normally my thing - I'm seriously lactose intolerant But a friend chose Etoile for my birthday lunch, on the 1st fall-like day of 2024. Food was amazing! Service was superb. Tony who I think is general manager, could not have been more wonderful in overseeing everything. Thank you for making my birthday lunch priceless

Yelp
I give it 100 stars if I could bc it's so good! Yum yum yum in my tummy.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch on Sunday. A couple of well-crafted cocktails started the meal! I had a drink with a spherical ice ball made of honey-infused Earl Grey tea that was submerged in Monkey Shoulder Scotch. I was skeptical when I heard about this, but it was amazing! I ordered the cassoulet, which is white beans cooked with confit de canard (duck confit) and pork sausage. You might think that "beans" isn't French gourmet, but then you'd be wrong. These are possibly the best beans ever! The waiter was attentive, but not too attentive, and the manager was interested in how we were enjoying our meal. A great experience, especially for a romantic date, but also a great place to go with a group of friends.

Yelp
A Place Worth Coming Back to Again and Again We keep returning here because it's just that good--truly comeback-worthy! The flavors are absolutely incredible, and the staff's thoughtful and attentive service makes every visit memorable. I'd return for their escargot alone--it's that delicious. But honestly, everything on the menu is a treat. If you're not sure what to order, just ask the staff for their recommendations--they know their stuff, and you won't be disappointed. This place is a gem, and I can't wait for our next visit!

Yelp
A pleasantly quaint restaurant tucked away inside the uptown area. It reminded me of dining you see in an exquisite restaurant. We ordered from the Charity" menu. The selections were varied and interesting. The beef tartare was to die for! The escarole' was bitter and one bite was more than enough. I chose a shrimp dish, plump pan fried shrimp layer on a tangy asparagus risotto. I chose the French puff pastry with vanilla ice cream with a rich dark chocolate sauce, which was not the best choice for me . If you like dark chocolate you would like it. I thought service could have been better. The escargot.had to be ordered twice ; the waiter was nameless, and seemed to forget we were there. I would visit again nevertheless . It is worth a 2nd try.

Yelp
Excellent service. Food comes out fairly quickly. Everything was extra sauced and buttered up. Forgot how heavy French food can be. The meats were tender, not over cooked. Loved the salads the most. Lighter and refreshing.

Yelp
Etoile elevates French cuisine to a whole new level. I stopped in during a self care day at Uptown Park. Tried the Wild Boar Bolognaise and it was delectable. The dessert was the icing on the cake. Service is top notch, and fast! The ambiance is serene and tranquil, I dined outdoors on a cool Friday afternoon and they had the heaters on which made it even more enjoyable. I truly enjoyed dinning in, and I'll be sure to return.

Yelp
Finally checked this place out as part of HWR24 and I was thoroughly impressed with their food and lunch service. The choices for the HWR lunch menu were great and you had the option to add a dessert for an extra cost. Walking in, you definitely get more of a high-end but somewhat welcoming vibe. There's the like fine dining touches of attentive waiters and staff with some Texas hospitality, which was somewhat of a weird mix for me but appreciated. Ordering strategically as a couple means we each got to try multiple dishes, which is, in my opinion, the best way to eat. I thought everything was great, the lobster bisque was very rich and creamy and such a nice lobster flavor that the creme fraiche helped tame and keep interesting. The sole was super buttery but light and of course I got foie gras as an addition and just added (probably unnecessarily but I couldn't resist) a level of richness and unctuous that made the meal all the more great. Finally, desserts were also great, personal favorite was the pistachio + meringue, I could have that all day. Overall, highly recommend as a spot for food or a treat yourself meal!

Yelp
Wanted to check out Etoile for a while so I was glad my friend suggested it for a Saturday brunch during HRM (which was extended this year). She made a 12:30 pm reservation and when we arrived, parking was a bit tough. While they do have valet ($8-$10), there is open parking but the area gets so busy on the weekends but I lucked out and found a spot. We were seated right away and provided with the lunch menu (they only have brunch on Sunday) and the HRM menu to browse through. I wasn't really blown away by the menu but decided to go with their version of avocado toast as my starter and for my meal, I got the solê fish. Our meals came out swiftly but it left a lot to be desired. It wasn't well seasoned but again, it is french cuisine. The service, however, was exemplar and that made up for the bland food. Our waiter was attentive, funny and even kept my friend's daughter entertained. That alone will bring me back for Sunday brunch.

Yelp
Met a friend for Sunday brunch. Was a bit apprehensive as we walked from the entrance all the way through the restaurant, but our table in the wine room was perfect. Quiet and cozy. A perfect place to catch up with a good friend. Ordered on the Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW) menu which has been extended through September 30 to help both the Houston Food Bank with donations as well as local restaurants who have been affected by recent storms and power outages. Brunch is $25. Started with the avocado toast. Toast À L'Avocat Et Saumon Fume. It just sounds so fancy. Toasted brioche topped with creamy avocado marmalade, a warm poached egg, smoked salmon, and Hollandaise sauce. This would have been enough for brunch. Definitely start with this one. My friend's Soupe Glacee de Tomate au Baslic, a roasted tomato and basil soup with macerated tomato, fresh mozzarella, and olives, was also tasty. For the brunch entrees, we ordered the Coq au Vin and the Filet de Sole aux Capres. The Coq au Vin was so tender. Chicken thighs braised in red wine with pommes mousseline and vegetables. The potato mousseline was velvety smooth and creamy. Amazing! Lots of tender veggies. Cauliflower, mushrooms, carrots, and snow peas. Delicious! The Filet de Sole aux Capres was cooked in a lemon butter sauce with capers. Topped with fingerling potatoes, cauliflower and snow peas, it was a delicious brunch entree. Felt like we were at a Parisian Cafe. Added a couple of desserts which were a deal at $4 each. The Clafoutis aux Nectarines is a warm almond cake filled with yellow nectarines and topped with a scoop of caramel bourbon ice cream. So good. The Creme Prise À La Vanille, vanilla panna cotta topped with red berries and an almond crumble, was so light and flavorful. A perfect ending to a delightful meal. Made a reservation on Open table. So happy that we sat in the wine room. So cozy and comfortable to be away from the busy main dining room. Service was great from Gabe. Parking can be a challenge in Uptown Park, but plenty of parking spaces if you are willing to walk. Valet is also available. Merci pour ce délicieux repas. It truly was a delightful dining experience.

Yelp
Visited this restaurant for HRW lunch. Atmosphere is fantastic, classy and upscale, everyone is somewhat dressed up here, staff are welcoming and very attentive, totally elevated our experience here. From first course soup (lobster bisque and chilled red beet soup), second course grilled sole with capers, to the dessert (warm almond cake with delicious and rich caramel bourbon ice cream), everything is above and beyond our expectations. From presentation to taste, every dish is perfect! I definitely would recommend this place for your next girls date or date night! Romantic, intimate and classy!

Wen Z.

Yelp
Amazing food and incredible service! We tried the lunch menu for HRW and will definitely be back!

Yelp
French food is my favorite cuisine and I have been to France multiple times and I will say this place did not disappoint! The ambiance is a little more stuffy and for an older crowd but still a nice place. Unfortunately had to sit in the heat outside because they ran out of tables indoors. I got a pamplemousse cocktail that was deliciously fresh and was strong yet refreshing. Escargots 9/10: They were really tender and traditional with the herb butter sauce. I wish there was a little bit more seasoning such as a dash of salt or something to revive the taste a bit and balance the butteriness. Coq au vin 10/10: The vegetables were absolutely delicious and the chicken in the wine sauce was to die for! It was sooo tender and a really good portion size. From my friend she said she gave both the bisque de homard(lobster bisque) and the risotto a 10/10! The only reason I'm not giving the place a 5 is because of the vibe it still has stuffy uptight vibe and it was insanely hot to be seating people outside. If I knew that u could call ahead to reserve indoor seating I would have.

Yelp
3.5 Stars. Came here for HRW brunch to celebrate a couple of birthdays. The experience was such a rollercoaster from beginning to end. We had a reservation via Opentable for 6 guests at around 2 pm. When we got there on time, our table wasn't ready just yet. We did get seated after 15 minutes, so not terrible. When we got seated, the hostess just put the menus on the table and walked away not realizing that the table was only for 5 guests so we were left standing wondering if she sat us at the wrong table. I understand the place was packed, but this made for a very awkward start to our brunch. I went over to the hostess table to inform them what happened, and the manager apologized and moved us to a table that could actually sit all of us but it was a tight squeeze as it was almost blocking the hallway. As we were ready to order they then moved us again to a better situated table in their private hall. Now that we have the seating situation finally sorted out, I can finally talk about the rest of the experience. Other than how packed it was, the place actually is kinda cute and vibrant. They have walls decked with wine bottles where we were seated. Our server was prompt and attentive. The $25 HRW brunch menu was a pretty decent deal. I got the escargot, coq au vin and the almond cake (extra$4). The escargot was flavorful and cooked well, they serve it without the shell which was fine although I prefer it with - just makes the experience more fun. The chicken was good and tender, and the pommes mousseline it came with was super smooth and creamy. I also noticed a pretty good selection of wine - a plus if you're wino! The almond cake was worth the extra charge. It was nice and warm and just the perfect end to the whole meal. All in all food wasn't bad. I want to add that I did mention we were celebrating multiple birthdays for this brunch. I did expect some sort of greeting card/birthday dessert or even a simple greeting from the staff - all we did not get unfortunately. Overall, I am on the fence if we should return or not. French dining in the city is very hit or miss. The overall service may have overshadowed the food in this instance. Give it a shot and hopefully your experience will be smoother than ours!

Christina W.

Yelp
The service was amazing and the waiter had a really great wine rec. The wine list is great! It's expensive, ours was over $200. We went for restaurant week so got 3 courses. I got the beef tartare, duck and Panna Cotta. The tartare was well seasoned nothing to over powering for the beef. The duck was crazy good! It was over butternut squash mousseline, mushroom, corn, orange gastrique sauce and it was so creamy and delicious! Restaurant week is a steal for this place and the food or service didn't suffer what so ever.

Nick S.

Yelp
4.5/5 for being a decadent and high quality meal and for being a fantastic deal (restaurant weeks special for lunch), and for offering fine French dining that seems to be special in Houston. Do yourself a favor order the ravioli with mushrooms. Out of this world delicious! It's such a rich meal you may have trouble finishing the last few bites. If you have room, order any of their desserts. They're equally impressive and will brighten up your day. The service was pretty good, but not outstanding. We waited quite a long time to have our check brought to the table. Parking is plentiful in the adjoining shopping and dining area. High marks overall and one we'll visit again.

Jasmin G.

Yelp
This restaurant is really nice and even dim inside for dinner. The waiter we had was kind. Once you sit down, you get a nice & warm piece of bread with butter, which was great. My friend & I did the HRW dinner menu and it did not disappoint. I got the lobster bisque, the slowly braised short ribs, and the pistachio dessert and they were all so good. Definitely recommend trying this place out!

Larry S.

Yelp
This is a truly impressively bad restaurant! I would recommend to all to never ever dine there. It is impressively bad. Your experience will be memorable. However it will not be a good memory. The waiters do not listen. We try to eat healthy and asked for no butter or cream, grilled salmon and also grilled white fish. Our dinner was dripping in cream sauce and the white fish was cooked with a butter/batter. The salads were a total joke. The wine is so grossly overpriced it is laughable. Then the owner/manager is arrogant. When you ask for help his attitude was "everyone loves our restaurant"... if you don't like it then don't come back. The owner was an absolute jerk! We dine in very nice restaurants all over Houston and the USA. This restaurant was memorably horrible!

Brenda A.

Yelp
Went here with coworker for HRW. It was a deal. My short rib was good and tender. But the star was the dessert--pistachio mousse thingy. Make sure to get the warm bread as well. Surprised it was my first time here.

Nghi T.

Yelp
We came to the restaurant for a date night and tested out their Houston Restaurant Weeks menu. And the restaurant did not disappoint us. We started off the menu with Escargot for me and Lobster Bisque for him. Escargot was good as usual, enjoyably tender with the aroma of herbs and butter, it is just delightful. It is best to accompany with bread. His lobster bisque is forgettable, sorry! But it is not bad, just a little bit much on the salty side. To our entrées, I got sole fish and he got beef tenderloin. The sole fish is tender and flaky, just the way I like it. The fish was accompanied by the fattiness of the butter and the acidity of the capers. All the flavors were just all melting on my tongue. His beef tenderloin was tender and cooked to his liking. The sauce went well with the beef but had the beef been a little bit more seasoned with herbs or garlic, it would have been perfect. To my surprise, the best part of this dish was the french fries. The french fries were fresh and perfectly cooked to the good mix of light crisp on the outside and tender in the inside. For the desserts, we got almond cake with caramel ice cream and pistachio custard with soft meringue. The almond cake was warm and fluffy and went well with caramel ice cream. But to my preference, it is a little bit on the too sweet side. I think the cake with the vanilla panna cotta are the safer options because pistachio custard is quite adventurous. The flavor was nutty and lightly sweet. The smell of pistachio was so strong that it seemed to be overly done for some people but it did not bother me fortunately. However, the texture is just odd. The soft meringue is...soft and it is not good company with the custard, which was more in liquid form of sauce than custard. Liquid with soft texture is meh imho. The services were good as usual. The ambiance was moderately loud. Nothing was out of ordinary. The tables for party of 2 are quite close to each other so there is less privacy. The parking is terrible as always so we always valet.

Roma B.

Yelp
Came by for HRW brunch, definitely one of the best deals! For $25 plus extra $4 for dessert, we got an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Got the escargot, smoked salmon on toast, salmon benedict, rib hash over mashed potatoes, warm almond cake, and panna cotta. Must get the smoked salmon on toast, rib hash, and the two desserts! The escargot was good, but not super flavorful. Benedict was good, but nothing you can't get at other restaurants.

Olivia S.

Yelp
My husband and I went here for Houston Restaurant Weeks 2024 and overall had a wonderful experience. We were especially impressed with the staff and the service - particularly how our water glasses never emptied. We enjoyed the first and second courses of the HRW menu, however dessert was a let down. They looked pretty, but flavor was lacking. I also expected the pistachio custard dish to be cold and it was warm, which was not enjoyable.

Jim B.

Yelp
Really pleasant Sunday lunch. Both soups wonderful and full of flavor. My wives cow au vin was excellent albeit a bit too large after the hearty soup. My Moules were prepared perfectly with the sauce being just right. We did not have wine though there were many nice options. Wait staff was efficient and not pushy allowing us to enjoy the meal and talk without interruption We got there just in time as it was full by 12:20.

Sylvia M.

Yelp
This was my family's first time here and we all agreed that we will be back! The food is so good. Very few places know how to cook duck and this place did a great job! The duck was very tender and flavorful! The short ribs were excellent- nice wine sauce and the meat was super tender! The steak was also good but mismatched with average French fries. The steak would be so much better with mashed potatoes. The service was excellent! My son was running late and our server was very patient, courteous, and attentive. The restaurant is nice and the noise level is low enough to carry on a conversation. We all did the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu and I would highly recommend it. Our favorites were the duck dish and the almond cake. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend this restaurant!

Thuy P.

Yelp
Again Etoile didn't disappoint us. Took my family here on Sunday and the restaurant was packed at 11am. I couldn't believe it. We had to take the earliest reservation bcoz there was T any available Food and service was good as usual

Yelp
This will be my 1st ever review on a French restaurant in my years of being a Yelpman. I went here for the first time this Friday night and ordered the Coq Au Vin entree with a side of butternut squash and the Almond Cake a la mode with a side of chocolate sauce. I have eaten French food only a handful of times in Houston and a majority of them here were nothing special for me. However, I really like this cafe and was glad to finally try it. My main dish, dessert and more were all very delicious, authentic, high quality and balanced in prep. The chicken thighs in the skillet were very juicy, really tender and so well-cooked. The veggies were fresh and added some nice, refreshing crunch. The mashed potatoes were creamy and good. The brown colored, red wine sauce where a lot of the flavor comes from was really tasty, aromatic, mild and yet, quite catchy. It was a bit acidic, buttery, oniony, not too runny, herby, savory and a little sweet all in one mouthful. The butternut squash was kind of sweet, creamy and had a little pumpkin type of vibe to its profile. It was like a great fall pudding that could be eaten with any meat or as a snack imo. The dessert was doughy, not too sweet, moist and almondy in the flour flavor. The bourbon ice cream, crispy n very thin cookie layer and chocolate sauce were all very tasty, vastly different from one another and still made one awesome dessert combo in each bite. The service was very welcoming, friendly and efficient from my server and also the bartender that I met shortly before leaving the place. I plan to try another good French dish on the menu as well as another dessert here on a future visit.

Christine S.

Yelp
My son and I convinced my husband we had Togo try this restaurant for a Saturday lunch. The service and food was worth the drive in from The Woodlands and my husband is a French food convert. From appetizer through dessert, every dish was on point regarding flavors, presentation and the overall cook was on point. If I had to pick one dish as the star of dishes it would be the mussels. Our waiter urged us to get them as they had just arrived and they were amazing! It was the first time my son had mussels and he's now addicted. The broth was flavorful and I had no shame drowning my bread in every drop. We will definitely be back, sooner rather than later!

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
The place is close to the Rustic off the feeder of 610 south. The service is very formal and polite. The mood is very cozy and somewhat upscale without all the jazz. I came here for the salmon, so I ordered the Pavè De Somun Roti which is so delicious. It is a fillet of salmon with the fish skin fried on a bed of black eyed peas and a soft green. I recommend this with either sparkling water or a white whine. It was magnificent!

Patricia D.

Yelp
I made sure to book after the lunch rush (2pm). Nice offerings for restaurant week. Melon salad was flavorful. The fish was cooked just right. Not my favorite French restaurant but worth a visit when it's slow.

Olivia C.

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch with a group of people and the restaurant staff were very accommodating and so pleasant! I got 2 appetizers but my friend got the risotto which was very good too and some of our other colleagues got the burger which also looked good! Everyone enjoyed their dishes.  Escargot - Butter was a bit on the sweet side. But the escargot was still just the right amount of chewy and soft. And there was soo much better left for dipping with bread. Beef tartare - was very smooth, not too tangy. Was actually a sizeable portion for the smaller one and I felt really full just from eating this.

Thomas N.

Yelp
The food was delicious, dishes well-balanced in flavor and plated beautifully. I was very impressed by the gracious server I had. Excellent hospitality! The gentleman had a personality and bobbed around making all of his guests feel right at home.

Jamilla L.

Yelp
The Coq au vin was divine. We've had it twice. I've decided to order delivery from here including wine for my birthday, a lemon meringue pie from House of Pies, and as we dine watch Met Opera on TV with Hubby (who will have to listen because it's my birthday). When Michelin comes to Texas at last, Étoile deserves at least a star or two.

Cassandra M.

Yelp
Etoile has been on my list of places to try for years. What better time to try some new things than during HRW? I'm giving 3 stars because everything was "just okay" in my opinion. I tried the foie gras - this was a miss for me. Nothing against the restaurant, just my personal opinion (but, I tried it!). The caesar salad was a little off. I eat a lot of salads, and a lot of caesar salads. I'm not sure what they do differently here, but I was not a fan of the caesar salad. For my main dish I had the roasted duck breastfeeding (with butternut squash mousse, mushrooms, corn and an orange sauce). Once again - it was okay. The corn seemed out of place. It was like when you're trying to cook with whatever you happen to have on-hand so you just toss it in. For dessert I had the almond cake. It was pretty good. I didn't finish everything and didn't take home any leftovers - that says it all.

Michel F.

Yelp
Mes compliments au chef! This place was recommended by the passport lady at the French consulate nearby and she specifically said to try the moules marinières. So i did and I wasn't disappointed! The mussels were huge and so well cooked and tender. The only surprise was the creamy sauce rather than the typical wine sauce but it was nonetheless excellent. I ended with an Ile flottante with pistachios and again the chef or his pastry chef are showing that they know their stuff. Will be back when I am in Houston.

Rupali W.

Yelp
Loved this French restaurant - ambiance is wonderful and food was so good - tried escargots which were amazing. Duck and Foie Gras were very good as well and the almond cake was delicious. Service was impeccable. Definitely recommend

Devlin W.

Yelp
Restaurant week review! Loved the intimacy & cozy elegance of Etoile. Staff were polite, prompt, and professional! Everyone helped everyone, whether they were your server/waiter or not! I witnessed & appreciated the teamwork! Food & Drinks: (excuse the CAPS, I'm copying from the menu to prevent misspelling) Drinks: BONNY PRINCE DRAM & FRENCH TIKI COCKTAIL Both delicious! Just the right amount of alcohol to flavor, not too much nor too little. Really one drink Is all you need here. I'd highly recommend the tiki cocktail! First course: TARTARE DE BOEUF & BISQUE DE HOMARD (GF) The lobster bisque was delicious, rich, creamy, & good portion size. Although a lobster taste, the lack of lobster, threw me off. Appears to be tomato soup until you actually taste it. The tartare was flavorful, of good size, and came with breadsticks for dipping. Second course: FILET DE BOEUF "AU POIVRE" & PLAT DE CÔTES DE BOEUF BRAISÉ While both were good in portions, flavor, presentation, & tenderness, we didn't care for the sauces that came with them. Third course: ÎLE FLOTTANTE À LA PISTACHE (GF) & CLAFOUTIS AUX NECTARINES The almond cake with ice cream was moist & sweet, but on the small side. Didn't taste much nectarine, yet the other flavors were just enough. You can never go wrong with ice cream & cake! The pistachio custard, on the other hand, was not a fav! The custard, itself was tasty, especially if you love pistachio. However, the meringue was too eggy & dense, the caramel drizzle really didn't make much of a difference with the taste. It felt like it didn't belong with this dish. Eat at Étoile, and let me know what you think!

Rain V.

Yelp
The portion is so small for the hefty price. I came for restaurant week. I couldn't even eat the fish entree - way too too too much butter for me. The service is great! I just wish the portion and food quality are reasonable. The display of the appetizer looks pretty but portion is too small. The ambiance is nice.

Noemi N.

Yelp
Great food great service and ambiance.......... Food is reasonably priced! Love the area and location! Definitely returning

Don C.

Yelp
Cool small restaurant. Seems to have all the right menu items. Great wine list. Great service too. Glad I tried it before moving. Lots of business men and older folks at lunch but it was packed. I went for foie gras- excellent, escargot and a veggie risotto. And of course wine. They have valet. And a lot of self parking.

Jennifer V.

Yelp
Made a reservation 15 minutes before arriving and it was really quick and easy. I came here during HRW lunch and was disappointed that the online menu was wrong (I thought the dessert was included in the $25 or else I'd have gone during brunch). I am not well versed in French cuisine so I figured Etoile would be the place to try it. I got the lobster bisque as an appetizer while my friend got the beef tartare. The bisque was a bit thin with chunks of butter floating about, no pieces of lobster, and a bit too salty for my liking. Given how much I'd liked the lobster bisque at another HRW restaurant recently, that was disappointing. I tried my friend's beef tartare- it was pretty good, pieces were cut thick. That portion (4 oz) was very generous- I do think it was a bit bigger than necessary unless you were sharing because a little big goes a long way. We each got the coq au vin for entree since it seemed to be their popular dish- again I've never tried this dish. It was underwhelming- maybe I was expecting too much but the flavors weren't particularly special, and the chicken were 2 bone in chicken thighs. Generously portioned (although the ingredients to make the dish are pretty cheap). Everything was cooked well though. We got the pistachio panna cotta to share and it was filled with fresh berries and was perfectly non-sickeningly sweet. I wish the pistachio flavor was stronger and that the panna cotta wasn't overwhelmed in flavor by the berries. The service was great and food/bill was delivered quickly. We were seated in a corner table at the entrance despite there being plenty booth table and I felt very claustrophobic. Overall I probably wouldn't return- maybe French cuisine isn't for me.

Senio W.

Yelp
This was my 1st time trying French Cuisines so i don't have much to judge this from but the lobster bisque was super good and paired very well with the bread. The Coq Au Vin was only ok to me. The chicken was cooked very well but the sauce had a unique taste(granted I've never had this type of food before) but the overall dish was good. I would go back and get it tho I sat at the bar and the server was amazing. He recommended me certain dishes and things to try. Constantly checked on me while i was working and eating. The ambiance is amazing as well. Cute little spot in uptown. I will be back for more

Robyn W.

Yelp
Wow - talk about top notch service! The staff was on point and well orchestrated. The timing was perfect on every course and had just enough follow through to not feel intruded upon during the meal. I had to mention this first because while the food was fantastic, this was some of the best service I've had in a very long time!! Onto the food! We opted to come here during HRW for brunch. It was a fabulous choice since we got to try so many things! Always best to go with friends that share ;) For the first course we opted for BISQUE DE HOMARD :: Maine lobster bisque, tarragon crème fraîche & SOUPE GLACÉE DE BETTERAVE :: chilled red beet soup, smoked salmon flakes, goat cheese cream drizzle. Both were outstanding. The bisque with creamy with wonderful sweetness from the lobster but my favorite was the beet soup. So much flavor - so smooth, earthy, with bites of saltiness with you bit into the mouth melting salmon flakes. I so want to learn to make this at home!! I knew after that the rest would be fabulous! For the second course we chose RISOTTO DE LÉGUMES D'ÉTÉ :: summer vegetable risotto, aged Parmesan, mascarpone, white truffle oil & the OEUFS BÉNÉDICTE OU SAUMON FUMÉ :: poached eggs benedict, smoked salmon, creamy spinach, English muffins, citrus Hollandaise, breakfast potatoes, salad. The portions were large and we had to take some home, but it was hard to stop savoring those bites. The risotto was cooked perfectly. Creamy with the perfect texture in the rice and the vegetables had just enough firmness to hold up with all the softness in the sauce. The benedict was well executed and exactly what I expected a great salmon bene to be. I know we had dessert, but the other courses by far were more memorable to me. I am certainly putting this one on my list to return to for special meals and outstanding service!

Yelp
First time having French cuisine and it won't be my last! Delicious food a bit of a crowded place but the food more than makes up for it.

Food was very good and we were happy with the service, till the end. My daughter was in a rush to get home to study so when we asked for the check without getting dessert, an employee loudly stated 'They want their check--They do not have the budget for dessert. Then he repeated himself loudly. This angered my husband so much that he will never revisit this restaurant.

Yelp
Welp! Second time is not a charm. My first experience was so great that when I returned to Houston and thought of French cuisine, I thought of Etoile. Service was still spot on (at first) and the space is as lovely as ever. The first time they made a Sole Amandine so nice, I thought I'd try it twice. I should have thought twice. The sole was not flaky and light; it was gelatinous and gummy. So much so that I did not eat a forkful. The potato, cauliflower, beans...everything around the fish was great. I left ALL of the fish on my plate. The lady that bussed the table didn't ask any questions, just scooped it up and took it away. I thought perhaps she would show the chef in the kitchen; maybe she did. But I guess he was like "whatever" cause he didn't come out to inquire and neither did the manager. My waiter did not inquire about my meal either but did ask if I wanted dessert or coffee. I declined. I paid my $53.00 check for a Vesper and a quarter cup of mixed veggies with almonds and left. The roll and butter was good though. Doubtful that I'll be back.

Yelp
Sam at the bar provided exceptional service, earning 5 stars for her attentiveness and attention to detail during my visit on 12/11 around 6:30 pm. She promptly addressed my requests and ensured I had everything I needed. However, the food, particularly the goat cheese salad, was somewhat average. While the almond-wrapped goat cheese offered a unique taste, the arugula and beets were mediocre. The greens accompanying the Foie Gras lacked freshness and fell short of high-end standards. Despite my expectation of house-raised quality, the taste didn't reflect this.

Yelp
Fantastique! bravo, I need an encore visit We started with the Foie Gras Au Torchon plus the warm Foie Gras as well (we cannot get enough). We also ordered a salad with a poached egg (I don't remember the name) and for our main course we had a coq au vin and duck confit - all were super duper delicious!!! And for dessert- my my the dessert was to die for... we ordered the Ile Flottante a la Pistache. This is the pistachio custard, soft meringue drizzled with caramel and toasted almonds....OMG this was delight. I could eat 10 of these bad boys!!! Needless to say I highly highly recommend Etoile!

Yelp
Came here for my birthday. The service was very good. The wait staff was attentive. The ambience was perfect, we sat on the patio outdoors and it was a perfect afternoon. Ok, the food was delicious. We were served hot bread. I had a cocktail which was very good. Then I had a salad as my appetizer. I had the seafood pasta special. The creamy sauce was delicious. Very nice experience overall. We will definitely return.

Yelp
I had clams. Very delicious! I love seafood. The members of our group had steak and pork and they were all pleased with taste and service. Planning to go back.

Yelp
Lovely spot for a date night or occasion! I went with my boyfriend for his birthday. He got the duck breast and I got the scallops. I preferred the duck and he preferred the scallops but both dishes were great! The scallops were cooked perfectly. The risotto was rich and flavorful. The duck breast was tender and the butternut squash mousseline complimented it so well. The service was nice. I made reservations beforehand and was glad they brought out the dessert with a happy birthday message. I've been interested in the coq au vin, so I'm excited to try it on my next visit!
