"Not only does Etta have great food, but it also has a great rooftop patio. This place serves delicious housemade pastas and pizzas, plus other dishes (like vegetables and pork shoulder) made in a wood-fired hearth. Come here for dinner with co-workers that (until recently) have only existed as squares on Zoom, a casual date night, or catching up with friends." - adrian kane, veda kilaru
"One of our favorite Wicker Park spots is offering family-style meals and a la carte options for delivery and curbside pickup. Plus, Etta will match what you spend dollar-for-dollar with a gift card." - adrian kane
"Etta is a restaurant in Wicker Park from the same people behind Maple & Ash, but instead of $120 filets and $180 seafood towers, you can get an excellent cacio e pepe for $22 and a sausage-peppers pizza for $25. If it ever gets serious, then you can go to their sister restaurant and spend $220 on caviar." - josh barnett, adrian kane
"The saga around this New American restaurant chain — which had locations in Arizona, California, and Chicago — illustrated how quickly success can unravel: ambitions to expand deflated after a very public business breakup followed by multiple bankruptcy filings and a trail of mistrust. It has since reopened in Bucktown but lost its Michelin Bib Gourmand ranking. David Pisor blamed COVID and rising expenses for closing the River North location after three years; he predicted reopening the space but ultimately filed for five bankruptcies while losing control of the chain, a remarkable fall for the co-founder of Maple & Ash." - Ashok Selvam
"Deciding to have dinner at a Big Chicago Restaurant (BCR) automatically makes your birthday a big deal. Which you don’t want. Not really. But...going somewhere likable and delicious with a wide-ranging menu to make everyone happy would be fun, now that you think about it. You just don’t want a sceney sh*tshow in a neighborhood where someone could get run over by a party trolley. Etta, a BCR in Wicker Park, is a useful workaround. The menu has delicious housemade pastas and pizza, plus other wood-fired dishes like vegetables and pork shoulder, and the space has a lot of round tables and booths that are perfect for groups of all sizes. But the truth is, the food tastes so good you’d be happy coming by yourself, which would be a serious birthday power move." - adrian kane
