The Best Kosher Restaurants in Miami | Eater Miami

"In the heart of Aventura, a nondescript strip mall houses a restaurant that transports diners to Tel Aviv without needing a plane ticket. Diners are greeted with a complimentary spread of salatim, offering small tastes of beet, corn, and carrot salads. The menu offers a diverse selection of comfort foods that a doting safta (grandma) would serve. Favorites among Israeli regulars include hummus and falafel, Yemenite beef soup, chicken liver with onions, schnitzel, or lamb chops. Wash it all down with a lemonana, a refreshing lemon and mint slushy." - Alona Martinez

Etzel Itzik Deli Review - Aventura - Miami - The Infatuation

"Etzel Itzik Deli is a great—and affordable—Israeli restaurant in Aventura open for breakfast and lunch. On any given day, you can find a crowd of locals eating schnitzel, beautifully crispy falafel, shakshuka, and lots more dishes on the huge menu. It’s not a big spot, but can easily accommodate groups of two or four. The dining room is covered in Polaroid pictures of regulars enjoying some of the best hummus in town, and there are a few outdoor tables as well." - Ryan Pfeffer

We stumbled into Etzel Itzik Deli near Aventura Mall and were genuinely surprised by how good it was. This family-run Middle Eastern Jewish deli serves up fresh, clean-tasting food with vibrant herb flavors. The chicken shawarma stood out—tender, flavorful, and not greasy at all. Everything felt homemade and wholesome. It’s a great spot for a quick, satisfying bite, and the prices are fair—about $15 to $20 per person. One thing to note: tip is already included in the bill. Highly recommend. Follow IG @No.Fluff.Just.Flavor for real eats, honest bites, travel tips & foodie gems around the world. Tasting the world one bite at a time.

It's been quite a while since I've eaten here. Had lunch with a friend. It is very good. So, thre is no atmosphere, tables, rushing waitresses, food brought pretty quickly. Immediately, you are given a selection of small salads - NOTE: if there are salads you don't care for or want, please tell your server immediately and they'll take it away. My friend and I both had the merguez plate. Lots of good food.

They serve unsold food from previous days. One of the waitress is a really negative vibe to have nearby. I went for lunch on a busy afternoon, passed noon already. First, the waitress did not like it when I made her a gesture to her that I was ready to order after waiting for so long.... It was Wednesday but I thought by mistake that it was Tuesday, so I asked her: Do you still have any Lamb special? She did not tell me it wasn't Tuesday she just turned around quickly and brought me lamb ENOUGH for at least 2 people. Meat was a little dry, but I was so hungry I couldn't stop eating it. I requested the bill and the waitress comes and tosses it on the table and leaves. You could tell, something was going on. Bill was $44 (I had asked for water to drink). I said to myself what could be wrong here (since I had ordered the Special of the day) and when I look at my cellphone and realized it was Wednesday rather than Tuesday, it all came to my mind right away. They poured all the old lamb from "yesterday" on my plate and laughed about me eating it.

Soup and lemonade 26.12 Unwelcoming, Disregarded, Forced 18% gratuity. I came here after looking online for a salad near me. Upon entry was almost knocked over by waitress no apology or acknowledgment. I had to stop a waitress to be seated. The owner sat directly across from me interacted with all around me, the intro salads I received a fraction(4)of what the patrons around me received(6+)varietes.End of meal waitress never returned to table. I initiated check out. Paid with cash in cashier hand. When I received my change money placed on the counter in front of me and walked away. My service waitress lingered. Although gratuity already paid. It is quite disheartening to see that in people are so small minded to mistreat people of different cultures than yours, “Shame on you”. However message received, “Melanated person need not patronize this establishment you are not celebrated nor tolerated”. Food is ordinary. Lemonade is too sweet. Diabetes in a cup.

Google
Traditional Israeli home cooking, in a cozy setting that reminds you of grandma’s kitchen. Not fancy, just high-quality middle eastern food with the flavors and spices that you’d expect when you walk in. The staff was great and my meal was perfect: falafel, hummus, schnitzel pita sandwich, spicy schoog sauce 👌

Went on December 25th- food was fantastic. Initially we were hesitant given the large group outside but decided to try it. Inside had space, food was quick to come out and tasted fantastic. Will return!

Yelp
After our JCC gym classes, a group of us women headed over to this little hole in the wall that one of us highly recommended for their lemonade called Lemonanna - to go for. We arrived and there was a wait but it's a small little place so we waited outside until another group of people came and started smoking so we went inside ... When we saw that one of the tables was available and there was really no place to stand, one of us went over to start to sit down (as a solution) and the waitress whose name was Lulli or Lolli started yelling at us telling us that she had to clean first and I said yeah, but there's no place for stand and she yelled that we had to wait. Now, if you've been to Israel, you'll know that people are pretty rude. Kind of nasty they yell at each other we all know and accept it. And you kind of expect it if you go to an Israeli restaurant coz you're gonna get treated poorly. They act like you're bothering them. Of course it's not true of all Israeli restaurants but it's a generalization that's pretty spot on. Once you do get seated and she calms her ass down, you order the most amazing lemonade with fresh lemon, mint, and blended with ice that is to perfection. There's a spread already on the table of small little salads, chickpeas, carrots a lot of cabbage beets etc , to pick on while you're choosing from the extensive Israeli food on the menu . They have all the great Middle Eastern foods that you'll find in Israel . The hummus, the baba ghanoush, the falafel, the amazing is really salad with all the fresh herbs and the delicious fresh ingredients. Five of us spent about $22 each and had the best time despite our waitress and the leaky ceiling and the pretty dingy decor , but that's why we come here. Oh, and the tip is included in the price, which is probably why your waitress doesn't give a damn if you like her or not. We will be returning here for that Lemonanna and overlook Loli or whatever her name was.

Yelp
Guys don't sleep on this place! Oh my... authentic Israeli food perfectly prepared... We've only ordered from here never sat down to dine... friendly family service! Their form of a "bread basket" was all these deliciously pickled mini dishes! So good... and their homemade lemonade with mint is a MUST!!! Absolutely delighted!!!! And fulfilled!

Yelp
This Middle Eastern spot located in North Miami serves kosher Israeli food in a deli diner style restaurant. Complimentary Israeli salad is served upon seating. The casual cozy atmosphere is inviting for authentic cuisine. I had the Sabich $11.95 with brown egg, salad, hummus, tahini, samba, eggplant, scallions and pickle. It is high quality and delicious. Service is very friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Family run restaurant with many local patrons. Service was very friendly and prompt. My husband and I ordered standard dishes and they were delicious, filling and affordable. I'd happily come back and try many of their other dishes. There is a 3% credit card charge for those using a card so if you want to save money, cash is king. They have shared parking in a small plaza where other shops are located. Street parking is also available, but might be hard to find during peak hours.

Yelp
We were in Miami for a md appointment and looking for some where new to go. We decided to try Etzel and we were not disappointed. We were greeted with a bunch of little starters. They were all delicious. I had the falafel and it was the BEST I have ever had. The falafel was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I kept eating past full because I just couldn't get enough. The space is small and every table was taken. The parking is a little difficult, but that shouldn't deter you from going. Next time we are near there, we will definitely go back!

Yelp
Wow! This place is so good! Definitely a neighborhood staple that we finally got around to trying. The little plates they bring you at the beginning are so good! We got my son the kids falafel and my hubby got the special of the day which was couscous and beef. And I cannot forget their frosty mint lemonade. Although a tad on the pricier side the food was fresh and delicious the drink was superb and the service was great. The restaurant is quaint and perfect for the area.

Yelp
Delicious. Always a pleasure. Only bad thing is that it's closed on Sunday. But a lot of options and always very good

Yelp
When we walked in, I wasn't sure we were staying, it was busy and I didn't see any open tables. Luck for us the place was larger than it looked. Before we even looked at the menu they brought out all these small plates. For a moment I thought it was eating a Korean restaurant. There was pickled carrots, beets, cabbage, pasta salad, corn, chick peas and two kinds of coleslaw. They were all good except the the coleslaw, I don't like coleslaw. So you know I didn't eat it. I was pretty full after eating all the appizer plates, but I still managed to eat lunch. With a little help from our server to decide, I went for a chicken shawarma pita. It was so good! My favorite part of it was the pita bread. It was amazing! The fries were my least favorite thing. I only like fries when the just come out of the and are really hot. As far as the restaurant, I felt like I was in a different country. Everything was in Hebrew as well as in English. We plan to eat here again the next time we are in the area. Is one other thing, the parking sucks.

Yelp
Family restaurant, great spot to share a quick affordable mean. It is also super casual and has a diner vibe. Needless to say, A great classic to keep on your list. Service is ok; what you would expect for a dinner, quick and friendly. The highlight for us were all the pickled goodies and small bites They bring out soon as you walk in the door. It was amazing. We have never been in a place that has done that! Definitely try the hummus, the chickpeas and rice plate were great, The lamb kebabs were juicy too. The only thing we were crazy about, were the falafel. It wasn't bad. It was just kind of bland,

Yelp
Etzel Itzik serves authentic Israeli food that truly hits the spot. I had the shakshuka for breakfast, and it was incredible--piping hot and perfectly spiced. Their limonana is hands down the best I've ever had--so refreshing and full of flavor. We also tried the Yemenite soup, which was rich and flavorful. Although it had a bit too much cumin for my taste, it was still very enjoyable. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a taste of Israel!

Yelp
This place it's like coming home to my grandma. The food was delicious and the atmosphere as well. Mr. Itzik was there to make sure all was to a perfection!

Yelp
The real deal!! Simply delicious Israeli kosher food. Enjoyed the Hummus Shakshuka and also Shakshuka Eggplant. With all the delicious sides. And the coffee was way better than expected. A memorable visit for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
Hole in the wall vibe with the BEST FOOD!! You can't go wrong dining in or taking out. I've done both & highly recommend. You will not walk away hungry because they have huge portions and what feels like a million sides. The sides include things like beets, carrots, salads & pasta. My go to here is a babaganoush and hummus (with tahini of course), falafel balls, and anything with cabbage. If you're there on Saturday, try the Cholent which is a hearty beef and bean stew. Also, try the mint lemonade for a refreshing twist with the crushed ice & mint leaves!

Yelp
My girlfriend and I went to lunch and found this deli which has delicious food. Middle Eastern and it's like family there. Restaurant is full constantly. I had the steak skewers and my friend had the lamb skewers all delicious. They first bring you so many different salads all good. Recommend this hidden gem in North Miami Beach.

Yelp
After a crazy israel trip .. I wanted to see if a place can match Real authentic Israeli cuisine just as great as the MECCA!!!!! In all honesty, this place did not disappoint. wooow it was seriously amazing and came super close to what you get in Israel ! Best place in miami if you are in the mood for traditional Israeli food! Ambiance: little Israel .. it's a hole in the wall and doesn't look posh whatsoever but the food and service is BY FAR THE BEST IN MIAMI!!!!! Love love lovedddd my experience here! Food: we were served a bunch of salads at first and that's how it usually is done mini little salads ( beets, corn, coleslaw, pickled peppers and spicy peppers and mini pasta salad super deeelish and fresh. We went for the Brisket (steak in the oven) that was the special menu that day and I had the mix appetizer menu came with tabulee , couscous salad, israeli salad, eggplant tomatoes, tahini, hummus and hatzilim/babaganoush rice in a vine and FALAFEL WOOOW I'm obsessed! The food itself was the frkn highlight.. 5+++++++++ not as good as it is in Israel but it comes very very close to it! SIDE NOTE: it would be a sin .. if you do not try their LIMONANA!!!! A total must!!!! It's lemonade and mint drink slushy absolutely delicious and worth every single penny! Service: wonderful very friendly very fast and quick! We were super hungry and they served us really fast and they really made sure all our needs were met! Overall: Food quality , price and service was amazing and definitely worth and recommend this place whole heartedly.. don't let the interior and exterior decor fool you... YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS PLACE OUT if you're in the area!!

Yelp
The best Israeli food in my opinion in Miami. It may not be as fancy as some of the others, but never misses.

Truly excellent service, attentive waiters, great menu, outstanding food especially their meat and their daily menu for each day of the week . If you want to eat next level status, this is your place. when you get there this authentic israeli restaurant will flood you with salads then your your plate...

Yelp
The flavor of the eggplant took me back more than 30 years to when we used to make this almost every Saturday morning at home. I've so craved a good version of Sabich -- and have endured many poor ones in my search -- that I can't really believe I found one. Can't wait to try more of the menu.

Olivia J.

Yelp
The food here is simply amazing !! Every time we go there the service is fast and the food is delicious !! Strongly recommend !!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places in North Miami Beach. The first time I went there was about 5 years ago. Most of my friends completely obsessed with this place after we visit. I think a little appetizers might be my most favorite part. I also recently tried Baba ghanoush and honestly I can't even describe how delicious it is. The pitas are always fresh and soft. You definitely come out full after visiting restaurant. Parking is a hit or miss and it's always a lot of people in there. I can't say that the staff is most friendliest or attentive but they are growing on me and the food worth it!
google avatar

Amber R.

Yelp
Great food. Fast service. Large portions. And the fantastic complimentary appetizers gets your mouth watering
google avatar

Yelp
Eating in Israel without going to Israel - that's Etzel Itzik deli. Excellent food and service. Ambiance id as expected of a deli. I would love to come back for some shakshuka - it looked amazing. Bring cash as they charge 3 percent for credit card transactions.
google avatar

Debra M.

Yelp
Great, consistent food. Delicious and fresh. Always busy so go early to get seated. One of the best Israeli food restaurants around.
google avatar

Elissa M.

Yelp
Fancy? No Fabulous YES! Before you even get a chance to warm your seat, 6 small bowls of tasty side dishes are placed in front of you while you peruse the menu. Husband was very happy sampling everything, and could have cared less what was ordered at that point. I ordered the hummus with pine nuts (smooth-smokey-yummy), and babaganoush (lots of fresh eggplant chunks) as appetizers, together with the Israeli salad with grilled chicken entree. I assumed that we would just take home the leftovers. But Sadly, after my husband finished licking all the plates (metaphorically), we rolled out of there empty handed, but satiated and looking forward to our next visit.
google avatar

Oriana S.

Yelp
This review is not about the food quality per se, although we did not like the hummus at all, as the paprika and oil they put put on top is way overbearing and it does not have the chickpeas delicious flavor hummus normally have. The tabbouleh was missing a little bit of the acidic flavor. Other than that, the food was good. We ordered 2 hummus, tabbouleh, 8 kibbeh, 2 grape leaves and falafel. The big problem with this place is the size of the portions! The size are super small! Way to small to be charged almost $100 for it! Maybe I should have take the pictures in a different perspective so everyone can see how actually small the falafel, kibbeh were! And the tabbouleh was literally one big spoon portion of it! Absolutely ridiculous! I understand everything is more expensive now but the portions should be at least regular size. Mini balls of falafel and kibbeh should not cost this much! I think I got charged almost $30 for the bread? I'm not sure because everything in the check was written in Hebrew but it was the only thing we ordered 3 of them. Overall a terrible experience that left bad taste in my mouth
google avatar

Beth S.

Yelp
Excellent food! This place gets very busy, and for good reason. The menu has everything you could want. Everything is like eating a home cooked meal. There is outdoor seating but someone was smoking out there, so we ate inside. We ordered the Snitzel with mashed potatoes and an Israeli salad, and the falafel pita with fries. The pita was obviously freshly made. The fries were also homemade (not frozen), and delicious! The Israeli salad was a little plain, but I added some salt and we put it on the pita. The snitzel (breaded chicken breast) was good. I really liked the mashed potatoes. We also ordered the frozen limonado. It's a lime juice blended with fresh mint leaves. It was delicious! Everyone in the restaurant had one. They bring out an entire tray of yummy sides to eat before your meal comes. We ate all of it. I didn't get pictures of the rest of the food. The food is very reasonably priced. They also have daily specials that I'd love to try. We will definitely be back again soon. I highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Authentic as it gets for your middle eastern fix. Wonderful flavors and spices in each bite. Your meals Come with a fresh and bright vegetable salad with a perfect crunch and hint of spice. We have tried numerous dishes and always pleased. This is the hole in the wall style restaurant you want to try
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing. Came in after several people had recommended the place. I ordered the shawarma platter. It came with shawarma, hummus, fries, pita, and salad. The food was just incredible. Can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
My boyfriend always raves about a falafel spot down the street on Dixie that I won't name here. He always says it's the best falafel in Miami. But today we were here and had falafel pitas, and now he says Etzel has the best falafel. And it really really really is good. Crispy on the outside and so tasty, nestled in the fluffiest pita. They bring out a complimentary array of pickles and coleslaw to enjoy before your meal, and between that and the babaganoush we were pleasantly full. For the baba, two falafel pitas, and a drink it came out to $35. Not bad! Definitely try this spot out if you're a fan of Israeli food.

Yelp
FIVE STARS***** Congratulation's Itzik on becoming (again) a Tip Top Yelp winner!! Well deserved. For those who have never enjoyed this well oiled feast machine, you are going to love it. No need for a menu, First of course is the assortment of olives, chick peas, sweet corn, pickles, salsa with cilantro etc...Then-We always have/share the Young Chicken, known as Pargiot, grilled and seasoned to perfection served with basmati rice and white beans, and double fried french fires. Amazingly delicious. To drink, order the Lemon Nana, a crushed ice, mint and lemonade refreshment served in a Carafe! For all who know him- Itzik, the Proprietor of this well known Gem, could be the permanent Mayor of Aventura/Ojus, he feeds everyone and deserves the Key To The City, a really humble Man who provides happiness to all with a great staff, those Women and the Cooks are nothing short of Wonderful and friendly. Enjoy!!

Yelp
First ever experience of Israeli food. In this case food very good atmosphere welcoming if a bit strange as the tv had anIsraeli football(soccer) final on with Israeli subtitles. Host been in London for some years before opening this "hole in the wall" deli for the last 25 years. Full of faded photos of family. Real homely place. Welcomed by helpful waitress who talked us through menu which may have well been written in Greek. Recommended special of the day oven braised lamb- excellent. No fat. Very soft and tasty. Offered a mint lemonade drink ( like a smoothie) again very refreshing. Wife had mixture of chicken , meat rolls and steak. Again good but not as good as my lamb. Six small plates of appetizers included pickled carrots chopped beets and pasta and cold slaw and more. All great and fresh. ThenIsraeli salad which seemed like diced cucumbers and tomatoes with some herbs. All delightful. At the end a bit full and after paying the bill as we sipped offer complementary chocolate wafer. We were in the area and asked the shop we were informed the best local restaurant. They said go next door. They were right. Side story this is about one block from Allendale Brightline station in the opposite direction to the mall.

Debbie G.

Yelp
I called to cater for a small group. Hardar was incredible! She helped me through, advising, and even offering to open for me off hours to accommodate my schedule and make sure it was fresh. When I went to pick up I was greeted as though I was family. A fabulous experience and the food was delicious and generous portions. We had lamb, beef and chicken. All very tasty. Hardar even included extra spreads for us. I will definitely be back and look forward to catering another party! Thank you Hardar.

Yelp
This place was legit. Prices are really affordable and the food was amazing. They start you out with these mini appetizers for the table to snack on before your entrees arrive. Ordered the shawarma plate and the falafel plate which came with fries, side salad and of course Hummus. Oh, and this isn't your ordinary Grocery store's Sabra Hummus.. this stuffs' the real deal! MAKE SURE to try their limonada. It's a concoction of frozen lemonade infused with mint. Tastes like a virgin mojito! We tried their baklava for dessert. It was a bit dry and hard to chew. Very different than the Turkish baklava that I'm used to but it was still tasty. All in all, Nothing to complain about here. Another great Jewish deli in Aventura that's 100% recommended!

Yelp
Place is good, but it's a hit or miss. Sometimes it's really good. Yesterday ordered the steak platter but the steak was undercooked for me. Still was very good.

Yelp
MUY BUENO! muy sencillo, cuesta entender algo el menú pero si vas con alguien que sabe lo disfrutas. De postre el NAPOLEON es buenísimo.

Yelp
I was told the staff is rude before I went so I expected it but it's really bad. Our meal was disappointing and they added unexpected charges on the bill. Owner is scammer
google avatar

Paul H.

Yelp
I always wanted to try this authentic Israeli restaurant but was disappointed. I ordered tabouli salad but for almost $10 it was a tiny dish and very dry. I barely tasted the lemon in it. Then tried for the first time a Tunisian sandwich which was ok. When I got the check I couldn't believe I paid $28. Not worth it whatsoever. Noticed they incorporated the tip in the bill and yet had another blank to fill in for yet another tip which was deceiving. I don't like this practice with no warning that tip was already included and sucker you to an additional tip if you are not noticing the bill closely. Very disappointed in this place and there are many other choices in the area to choose from. I won't be returning.

Traci W.

Yelp
Everything on the menu is great. Little hole in the wall prices are reasonable large quantities awesome food Shawarma chicken.

Yelp
My family & I love this local Israelian restaurant. Upon arrival they put out between 5-8 complementary appetizers including pickled cabbage, beets, carrots, pasta & more. and their menu has many options of both authentic Israelian and Middle Eastern foods to choose from. Every day of the week there's a special. Today I tried their whole Bronzino fish which was moist on the inside & crispy skin on outside. I recommend this place if you're looking for a layed back atmosphere with great food.

Yelp
Been eating here for over 25 years. Great food snd prices. Itzik is always present and knows all his customers. Very casual. Love the complimentary salads and pita they put on the table before your meal. Real neighborhood place. Delish!

Yelp
I discovered this place by accident. I actually went to the next-door store to repair a suitcase, and while I was there, I noticed this place was packed! So, I checked out the menu and entered to request a table. It was a full house inside, and there was a couple of empty tables outside, so I ended up choosing an outside table. This is a very popular restaurant for the Jewish community. I'm not Jewish, but I could tell that most of the guests, and even those picking up orders, were from the Jewish community and spoke Hebrew. I suspected that if the local community eats here, they must have excellent plates. My suspicious were right. The menu is written in English and Hebrew and includes some pictures, which I found extremely helpful. After you take a seat, the waiter brings around eight appetizers in small bowls with different food such as sauerkraut, pickled radish, carrots, among others. And this in on the house, no charge. I ordered a chicken Shawarma in a wrap - everything in it, but they also offer it in a plate. The order came with french fries, and my husband ordered lamb shawarma. They were both DELICIOUS. To drink, please do yourself a favor and order the lemonade with mint. It is out of this world (if you visit the place on a summer day, this drink is a must.) The waitress was super friendly, the overall service was fast, and the affordable price was the icing on the cake. I will return to have the lamb on the plate and other delicatessens. PS: the indoor seating is usually packed, and there are many tables in a small room. I'm not sure the tables are 6ft. Distanced.

Yelp
Always fresh and tasty. I'm not a huge fan of the old school look of the restaurant but I guess that's part of the experience. Overall one of my favorite falafels around north Miami Beach.

Yelp
The starter dishes were all amazing and tasted super fresh. I got the schnitzel gyro and it was awesome. You have to try the mint lemonade if you come here. One of the best hole-in-the-wall Israeli restaurants in Miami.

Yelp
This is a great choice if you want to try real Israeli food. I made the mistake of confusing it for a Jewish deli. It's not at all. All welcome here and they have a great menu with lots of items to explore. Not everything may be available at the time of arrival though. It's a small restaurant that fills rather quickly and they offer limited parking and outdoor seating. Really liked the mint tea. I had the Israeli breakfast and my friend had the bagel & lox their way. Yes, they are open on Saturdays. This is my second time here and I really enjoy it each time I go. You will be offered a small plate of tapas when you are seated, take some or take all. That in itself is almost a meal. Portions are on the larger size, prices are not. Want something out of the ordinary or the comfort zone without it being too risky? This place should be a good option for you.

Yelp
What a great place to eat, from breakfast to dinner , Mediterranean food, kosher style but open on Shabbat , we had lunch and ever dish we ordered was unbelievable, cocked for perfection, and the service was so welcome and friendly. Highly recommended

Yelp
If you're looking for an Israeli feel restaurant, this is the place to go. They give the small salads in the beginning with a large selection on their menu. Their limonana is the best I've had in a while. Anything we order always comes fresh and tasting good. Service is quick and friendly. The place itself is small, love all the pictures on the wall. The only down I would say is the bathroom...it could definitely use a cleaning. Otherwise anytime we're visiting the Miami area we make sure to stop by and eat here.

Yelp
We stopped here on the way to a work appointment as it was in the neighborhood of where we needed to be and I was craving some sort of "middle eastern" food. This was like entering another world. Luckily I'd browsed other reviews and knew to expect a busy venue. We parked on a side street and walked over. Parking is very limited right in front of the restaurant. And we were luckily enough to be just ahead of the major lunch rush -- meaning that there were a few two-tops available. The menu is in English and Hebrew and you will hear a mix of both languages spoken. In fact, the waitress first greeted us in Hebrew but easily switched to English when she realized. Right after we sat down, we were inundated with little dishes -- vinegary carrots, marinated beets, two types of cabbage slaw, chickpeas, pickles and peppers, corn, etc. All were served cold each in its own little dish. We had to order the lemonana based on reviews -- a thick, slushy mix of lemon and chopped mint served very cold. Lemonade with tons of mint. Very refreshing, but if you don't absolutely love mint, try something else. For the main meal, we decided to share an appetizer combo plate and a small israeli salad. When they arrived, we realized there was the same salad on the combo plate so had we known in advance we might have ordered something else. Not to worry -- we took most of it home. The chef chooses what is on the combo plate, but basically it was some humus (chickpea dip), some babbaghanoush (eggplant dip), chunky eggplant in a tomato type sauce, israeli salad (chopped cukes and tomatoes with lots of parsley), 3 grape leaves stuffed with rice and spices, 3 fried felafel balls (ground chick peas made into a fritter like ball), and some tabouli salad (chopped parsley, mint, bulgur wheat, onion). On the side was served two fluffy pita bread rounds. After all of the mini tastes, we actually struggled to finish the combo plate. Everything tasted very fresh and well made. We watched as some neighboring tables got the daily hot special -- a combo of a stuffed pepper and a stuffed cabbage roll. Both were huge in size.. They have all kinds of sandwiches, meat entrees, and other choices. The menu is quite extensive. With some items, I'd never heard of (nor might I want to order. Chicken hearts?) . So, if you have some some knowledge of the cuisine, dive right in. I plan to come back to venture a bit further into the menu. And if you are adventurous, give it a shot. You'll feel like you've gone to another country (another world?), right here in Miami-Dade.
