Such a cute store! Huge selection of candy, plus the display is very well thought out! They have tons of vintage and unique candy, collectables from movies like Harry Potter and games and TV shows as well. In additional to packaged candy, they sell fresh candies like chocolate covered oreos and different varieties of rice crispy treats like smores, fruity pebbles, etc. Great place for a sweet treat or gift!

The Most Creative Candies in New York! There's too many good things to say about Eugene and his fantastic store! How many sweet shops can you say actually make their own creations? I stumbled upon this store while on a random visit to Bushwick and it honestly made my day. Most candy stores in NYC - great as they are - typically are resellers buying in bulk and selling to customers with a markup. While Eugene J. does have a wide selection of sweets from other producers, there's still a lot of care and attention to what is offered and the curation of sugary treats is excellent. But the stuff he makes? Oh man. "Freaks," which are his supersized take on Nerds, are amazing (see my photos - it's the bright, colorful candies). Each one has a different flavor and they last really long (if you don't give in to the temptation to just chew them). And the chocolate covered corn flakes have this great crispy texture like nothing I've had before. (See the large chocolate ball in the upper right. I even cut one in half so you can see what's inside.) You have to get the chocolate covered cheerios, too - they have this delicate outer candy coating reminiscent of an M&M, but they look like mini dinosaur eggs or some sort of holiday delight (bottom left of photo, one red, one green, and one cut in half). It's hit after hit in his store and I loved everything I picked up during my first time there. My only regret is I didn't buy more. And as many other reviewers already mentioned, Eugene himself is a real pleasure to be around. He's super friendly and open, gave me lots of fantastic recommendations when I asked for them (but left me alone to make my mind up), and was an excellent conversationalist. Simply put, Eugene J. Candy Co. is exactly the kind of place that makes New York such a great city to live in. A hidden gem with an owner who is passionate about his craft, whose workmanship and dedication to quality really shows in the product and speaks for itself.

Found this place while craving candy and was AMAZED by the reviews. Had to take a pilgrimage with 5 good friends and we were all equally impressed. The candy is DELICIOUS and the decor triggered that magic nostalgic feeling that I'm always hunting for. What a selection! Try the freaks (Eugene's homemade and superior nerds). How lucky were we to also find Eugene himself behind the counter-- humble, kind, and clearly a Willy Wonka in his own right. Oh trust...I'll be back.

Wow. Just wow. I'm stunned. My husband and I moved to the neighborhood in November and it took us until last weekend to actually go. And wow we're we blown away. We opted to shy away from anything that we could get anywhere else and the guy at the register was super helpful. He had great advice and even let us try a few things. Turns out he's the owner of the store. This guy is DEDICATED and his candy is incredible. He was telling us about how he gets up at 3 am to make candy and the whole thing is kind of just his show. And his candy is just awesome and creative and inventive. His attention to detail is impeccable - this shell is just the right amount of crunchy, the triple dipped malt balls are beautifully thick, each color of freaks has its own unique flavor that really comes through and OH MY GOD THE GUMMIES. Best gummies I've ever had. They're literally perfect. Anyway thanks Eugene. Your store is fantastic, your candy is spectacular, and I can't wait to come back.

I recently moved to Brooklyn and thought it was lacking in candy stores. After googling candy stores in Brooklyn, I knew I had to check this place out. I was very impressed when I wandered in to Eugene J. Candy co. They have all the necessities plus Halloween themed candy I hadn't seen anywhere else! I got everything I was looking for; nerds rope, laffy taffy, smartie candy necklaces and bracelets, sour punch straws, candy by weight, and they even have Rice Krispies treats from the crispery. The guy working at the counter was very kind and knowledgeable about the candy. He made recommendations that were very helpful. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves candy!

Eugene may or may not be the reason I've gained 10 pounds in the past month, but no regrets. This is one of my favorite local shops in Bushwick, and I always stop by if I'm in the area. Eugene's has so many different candy types, from old nostalgic packaged candy to pick n mix to novelty candy. The owner (Eugene) makes a lot of his own candy, like 'Freaks' (sort of like a supersized Nerd) to chocolate covered Cheerios. I always tend to go for the pick n mix selections, as I'm obsessed with gummies and they have varieties of candy I've only ever seen in Sweden before. There are also so many candies from my childhood that you can't find in other stores, as well as a bunch of fun novelty candies (including a huge Harry Potter section). At the register, you can also choose from fancy chocolates or giant rice krispie treats (the s'mores one is amazing). I can never control myself in here, but I can't keep away!

I came here to return a package because they do Happy Returns here. I didn't expect it to be a cute local candy store. I chatted with the owner and he is a very nice person with a very interesting story. Since young, his hobby was making candy and now he has created his own business doing just that. I would definitely give his stuff a shot. I can't resist gummies and I ended up walking out with a bag full of them. He has a bunch of varieties with different flavors. Although small, this store has a mighty selection. Today I was just browsing but had to try some Halloween gummies. Picked out some gummie eyeballs and brains, thinking they would be basic gummies. Having a candy store is so old school and at the same time has grown so rare. Think about it, how often do you encounter a dedicated candy store? Furthermore, how often is it independently owned? Yeah, there's a fair amount of gimmicky ones, chains that one can see in many cities, but this one is unique. They have a lot of candy that I have never heard of, I usually pick up at least one item that I've never had before, just to ensure I am experiencing as much as possible. There's also various candies one can bag and pay by weight, all high quality. The owner makes his own stuff, too. There are, are I say, artisanal Nerds-esque candies called "Freaks." There is even a variation that has Kava in it, which is a root that is very calming when ingested. There are some fancy chocolates next to the register as well, salted dark chocolates with peanut butter in them, peanut butter cups, crackers dipped in chocolate, etc. All delicious (I know, I've checked). Ironically it's a small store, so while there's a fair variety of candy, being overwhelmed should be no concern. It's kind of the perfect scenario. You should go and check it out for yourself. :)

I absolutely adore Eugene's candy store. I've been there a couple times and it really is like walking into a real life Willy Wonka Factory! Every time I've been there Eugene J. has been behind the counter. He's a lovely, friendly guy and always has good suggestions if you're indecisive when given too many choices. I certainly am and really enjoyed his guidance. He always has new candies, some that he imports and some that he makes himself. It's always interesting. The candy is definitely more expensive than if you had bought bagged candy at the supermarket, but its totally worth it. You walk into the store and feel like a kid again. It's too much fun!

When i think about reviews, i think about how completely a place a place exists in its own definition. This is how i can comfortably give Eugene J's the same rating that I feel for Gramercy Tavern. Eugene J's haunted candy store is completely and charmingly its own world. The candies, the decor & the friendly, expert staff are all top-notch. The scoop-able treats are always fresh & feature enough variety to be exciting, yet not too much of a selection that could be overwhelming. Eugene J makes a few of its own candies which are stupendous for lovers of multi-textured sweets. Hunks of cereal nestle inside smooth chocolate and wear a fashionable candy crunch coating in seasonal colors. The same craftsmanship shows up in the "Freaks," an in-house Nerds-like satisfying tart chew. I come here when i want to indulge or when I'm picking up unique edible novelty gifts. A neighborhood treasure!

I love going to Eugene Js! When in Bushwick be sure to go there and enjoy very fresh gourmet candy treats. During Coronavirus I see that it is possible to call in your order and I think that is a great idea. Then while walking on Wilson Ave, pick up your order. It will brighten your day! I recommend the snow caps, peanut butter cups, mint dark chocolates, milk chocolate covered pretzel pieces, black licorice. Those are my current favorites!

Luckily the only golden ticket needed to get into this small candy kingdom is an MTA pass. Eugene J Candy Co is a great little addition to the NE part of Bushwick. Located in a small shop on Wilson that used to house the great pins and patches crew known as Scumbags and Superstars (now in the LES). Hopefully their great neighborhood mojo has been passed on. I mean nothing goes better with Monster Movie greats like some sweet or sour candy and this place is a perfect stop on your way to a double feature at Syndicated Bar & Theater down the street! Although the store is rather small, it packs a punch, a sour patch punch! You can get not only your classic old school candies and holiday needs like peeps for easter but also many gourmet offerings. With options like Ladybug Truffles, Sea Salt Caramels. Speciality chocolates, featuring classic brands like Double Stuff Oreos and Ritz PB Sandwiches and original takes on mints and peanut butter cups. The proprietor seems knowledgeable, young, creative and very friendly and helpful. Theres something great and innocently childlike about going into a candy shop and picking out a sweet for the day. It's like a candy museum! This is the best candy shop I've ever been too. Eugene has the most unique and interesting candy and I love going there for treats for myself and gifts for friends. He even makes his own Kava flavored nerds, he has old school flavored candy wax lips, and kits to make your own candy (Japanese Ramen and sushi kits, make your own gum, and create your own candy popsicles). You know those moments when you really like something you've purchased and you keep looking at it over and over again because it gives you this odd satisfaction? That was me the evening I came home with my bag of candies from this cute but formidable shop. Most of the candies I chose were handmade by Eugene and my god, they were delicious. Words cannot describe the tenderness and appreciation I have for Eugene J. Candy Co. Eugene is always there for me- he is the one constant in my life, and I am so grateful for that. His store is phenomenal, and it has all kinds of candy you could ever want. I was in a search for junior mints a few weeks ago, and I went to every grocery/corner store from Maria Hernandez to Eugene's, and Eugene was the only place that has Junior Mints! And he is open so late, perfect for when you get home from work 3 hours later than planned and need a quarter pound of gummy's. Eugene, thank you for all you do. I have been on yelp for the last 5 years and never once did I ever review a place, except for this one, so you know this place has got to be good. This store is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory meets Nightmare Before Christmas. Eugene is always friendly and is always playing some wonderful music on the stores system. You got all kinds of pick and weight em candy/chocolate choices. Classic candies from the 90's and beyond, candy inspired by pop culture fads of today ( Duff 'Beer' cans, Ricky and Morty gummies) as well as candies and chocolates that Eugene makes himself. Whenever I am in the area I make sure I make a pit spot, and you should as well.

Eugene is the nicest and most patient owner/operator in retail. The candy is pricey which is why I can't give a five star review. But the customer service is exceptional. Can I give 4.5? My only complaint is EVERYTIME I go in, he tries to give me the cashew clusters when he KNOWS I only order the peanut butter cups!!!! AARRGH!! Such a small problem to have. We love this place. LOVE!

I've been coming here pretty much once a week. I actually love the products they have and the whole vibe of the store. Today though I had a terrible experience: the person at the register (who I think is the owner) was extremely rude to me. I was short 20 cents to pay with cash and he didn't want me to return a couple of pieces so I can have the exact change to pay. He also didn't want me to use my card to pay. He kicked me out of his store and asked me not to come back ever again. He said I was being rude, not sure why honestly, and when I offered him to wait for me to bring 20 cents to complete my purchase he repeated I should just leave and that he was going to throw away the candy I had picked. I am not sure why he treated me this way today, I have always been really nice to him and he is usually a really cool person. Beware of him, be prepared to be treated very badly out of nowhere anytime here. He lost a loyal client today, and my friends of course won't go back there either...

I'm not going to lie, when I first found out a CANDY SHOP was opening in my neighborhood, I judged it harshly. Until I went in one night to see what it was all about. First off, Eugene is probably the sweetest store owner you'll ever meet in all of north Brooklyn, I felt like he cared about what sort of candy shopping experience I'd leave his store with. We got to talking a little, and he makes some himself (chemistry background). Second, this place has every candy from your childhood, and some. All the old school brands and packaging you thought were extinct live at this store. But they also have bomb baked goods like a giant brick of marshmallows rice krispies treat covered in chocolate. This place is magical. Go spend your money there.

My favorite candy store! The owner is the greatest person ever. He makes himself the Milk Chocolate Cheerios, and they are sooo unique. There are other only sold in this place candy, look for the bronze stamp!! Enjoy it!

This is an amazing candy store, with an awesome selection of candy from around the world. My husband is Swedish, and Eugene has an entire wall of Swedish pick and mix candy. Eugene himself is kind, welcoming, and loves what he does. Amazing shop, I recommend it to everyone.

Recently moved into the area and this has quickly become a staple in my routine. His chocolate covered cheerios and chocolate covered cornflakes are soooo addicting. He also makes these giant nerds that are pretty bomb. Best part is that it's aways halloween there which means that it's always time for some candy

The Most Creative Candies in New York! There's too many good things to say about Eugene and his fantastic store! How many sweet shops can you say actually make their own creations? I stumbled upon this store while on a random visit to Bushwick and it honestly made my day. Most candy stores in NYC - great as they are - typically are resellers. While Eugene J. does have a wide selection of sweets that are from other producers, there's still a lot of care and attention to what is offered and the curation of sugary treats is excellent. But the stuff he makes? Oh man. "Freaks," which are his supersized take on Nerds, are amazing. Each one has a different flavor and they last really long (if you don't give in to the temptation to just bite into them). And the chocolate covered corn flakes have this great crispy texture like nothing I've had before. You have to get the chocolate covered cheerios, too - they have this delicate outer candy coating reminiscent of an M&M, but they look like mini dinosaur eggs or some sort of holiday delight. It's hit after hit in his store and I loved everything I picked up during my first time there. My only regret is I didn't buy more. And as many other reviewers already mentioned, Eugene himself is a real pleasure to be around. He's super friendly and open, gave me lots of fantastic recommendations when I asked for them (but left me alone to make my mind up), and was an excellent conversationalist. Simply put, Eugene J. Candy Co. is exactly the kind of place that makes New York such a great city to live in. A hidden gem with an owner who is passionate about his craft, whose workmanship and dedication to quality really shows in the product and speaks for itself.
