The 35 Best Restaurants in Porto, Portugal | Eater

"Vasco Coelho Santos is one of the best chefs in Porto and a prominent cook-turned-businessman with restaurants spread out across the city. After stints at Mugaritz and El Bulli, the chef returned home to open this high-end restaurant, which remains his best-known brainchild. The intimate, Michelin-starred restaurant is built around a chef’s counter, which gives diners the feeling of being invited to a talented friend’s home. The chef and his young team incorporate Asian flavors and world class techniques, but the focus remains on Portuguese produce and dishes rooted in tradition. Best for: A playful take on fine dining." - Rafael Tonon

Euskalduna Studio

"This restaurant in the lower section of the city is very popular with gourmet food-lovers, hence the difficulty in booking a table! After ringing the bell to gain access, you’ll enter an intimate space with its own distinct character in the style of a typical Japanese bar known as an “izakaya”, with a counter in front of the kitchen where every dish is prepared. The tasting menu is one that will definitely leave a lasting impression, showcasing chef Vasco Coelho Santos’s passion for different world cuisines. His consistent approach to cooking sees him toying with flavours to their very limit, enabling him to cook on the grill, age fish, and add a touch of smokiness, alongside interesting seasonings such as herbs with a hint of spiciness. He often incorporates a surprise dish on his menu." - Michelin Inspector

The Uncertain Future of Portuguese Food | Eater

"A Porto restaurant whose chef has had to rethink operations for a mainly domestic clientele, including removing costly items such as Mediterranean lobster from the menu; it illustrates the broader shift restaurants may need to make in staffing, pricing, and sourcing to survive reduced tourist flows." - Rafael Tonon

Absolutely outstanding in all criteria. Well balanced dishes, beautifully described and presented. Unique flavour combos, creativity and passion on display. Not pretentious at all, friendly and warm team. We took the local wine pairing which was a great learning experience made even better by the charm and knowledge of the brilliant and engaging sommelier. A must-visit. Out of 100's of superb restaurant experiences all over the world, this ranks very very near the top.

Let me start by saying I loved the atmosphere of this restaurant. It’s like watching an orchestra play in symphony. This restaurant has no servers. The chefs serve you the food, prepared in front of your eyes. The experience of watching the chefs prepare each experience was something I had never witnessed before. The flavors were also stunning. Very seafood heavy, which I didn’t have a problem with, since I do enjoy seafood. Service was amazing and all of the employees were a pleasure to interact with.

❤️❤️ I had an exceptional dining experience—one that will stay with me for a long time. The restaurant offers a tasting menu called “10 Moments”, a true culinary journey across ten courses (with a few surprise dishes) for €160. Every plate was a refined creation, elevated by impeccable service and an elegant atmosphere, where every detail seemed carefully designed to awaken the senses. Among the many remarkable dishes, two stood out in particular: • The tuna with salsify, a delicate pairing where the freshness of the fish harmonized beautifully with the subtle earthiness of the salsify, creating a perfect balance. • The pork with loquats (nesperas), a bold combination where the richness of the meat was enhanced by the gentle acidity of the fruit. Beyond the exquisite flavors, the experience was made even more immersive by a unique approach: the chefs themselves served the dishes, presenting each plate with passion and explaining their creative process with enthusiasm. This direct interaction added a personal and engaging touch to the meal. The attention to detail extended to the presentation as well: every dish was served in stunning tableware, whose elegance and design further enhanced the visual and sensory appeal of each course. Finally, an outstanding wine list, thoughtfully curated to pair perfectly with the dishes, added the finishing touch to this unforgettable experience. Every moment at the table felt like a celebration of gastronomy, where creativity, mastery, and generosity came together in perfect harmony. A must-visit for lovers of fine dining!

Every single thing about this restaurant is amazing. The attentiveness of the staff, the mastery and artistry of the chefs, and the overall ambience were all top-notch. I made a late reservation so I hade to go on the waiting list, but was lucky enough to have the restaurant reach out with an open seat. I’m very happy they did because it was a very memorable experience. If you can make a reservation do so. And if not, take a chance and go on the guest list. Whatever you do, find time to experience Euskalduna! Chef Vasco is one of a kind!

This is a must try for all foodies visiting Porto. Omakase style serve at counter is the best as you see exactly what they are doing as they prepare the food. Seafood heavy and made to exceptional standard. All locally sourced ingredients and focus is on bring in the best Portuguese ingredients but with some fusion spices/ flavouring techniques. I personally prefer this type of food to the traditional stuffy Michelin star meals. Definitely amazing staff/ chef and very intimate atmosphere snd felt like I’ve made some friends as the meal went on.

We have been to a couple of Michelin rated restaurants in different countries and wanted to try the experience in Oporto as we heard great things about its cuisine. After some research, we decided to give Euskalduna a try and it really didn’t disappoint. Let me start with the team and the atmosphere, in previous Michelin rated restaurants the vibe sometimes felt somehow pretentious and to rigid, while at Euskalduna it was the opposite, without loosing the attention to detail, the decoration, cutlery and the human touch really makes you feel that you are at a friends apartment who is cooking for you. Secondly, been so close to the chefs and been able to see everything they do felt like we were watching a calm and relax “the bear” episode. Finally, the food is amazing but I will let the photos speak for themselves and for you to give it a try because it’s definitely worth it. Ps. We also tried the bakery (Ogi) that makes their sourdough bread and it’s also definitely a must if you are around. Thank you to all the chefs for an amazing experience.

Great concept. Full view of the kitchen, different cooks doing the services as well. A lot of different dishes. Not your usual Michelin's experience but that's a good thing !

We visited here for dinner on 10/19/24 and were lucky enough to snag seats at the chef's table! What a fun experience! To start, the staff was incredibly efficient, knowledgeable, and FUN! We loved that they did not have a "stuffy" feel and the staff was making personal connections and conversations with everyone. The wine pairings were all fantastic. Hats off to the sommelier! We loved that he showcased mainly all local Portuguese wines. And he was able to change the pairings for me to all whites and sparklings, as I typically don't love reds. A nice personalized touch! As far as the food goes, it was creative and fantastic! What I expect out of a Michelin Star restaurant is to be surprised and challenged, and that is exactly what was delivered. They had one course made entirely out of broccoli!! How cool!! In total there were 10 courses, with several extra surprises thrown in! The entire experience lasted a little over four hours and cost us about five hundred dollars (for two people, plus wine pairings). Would definitely recommend!! Thanks guys for a great meal!!

Yelp
THE BIG: One Michelin star restaurant spearheaded by the famed Vasco Coelho Santos located in the Fontainhas neighborhood of Porto. Very small dining bar area but cozy. Street parking and a parking garage available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here to celebrate our second year anniversary dinner. We arrived at 7pm, however had to wait around outside for 30 minutes until the restaurant opened up. Little known fact, on the signage, there is a button that acts as the doorbell. We were seated at the chefs table (aka the bar) and got a bottle of a white wine from Alentejo. There was then around 11 courses with two pausas for a surprise course. My favorite bite was the squid ink takoyaki. It had a nice squirt of octopus when you bit into the ball as one bite. It was spaced out to 3.5 hours, so expect that. We ended up leaving a bit hungry, which wasn't optimal, but still a great experience. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall, the damage done for 2 tasting menus and a bottle of white wine was around 380 euros with a 10% tip. Friendly staff and phenomenal food.

Yelp
The vibe is cool, sleek, minimalist, and dark. The chefs/cooks spoke English and were very polite. I wished they would've engaged a little bit more at the Chef's table. I couldn't finish anything passed the 6 dish because I was full/nauseated. They charged a 10% discretionary service fee, which I was fine with. The seafood was excellent as was the ice cream dessert. Everything was very well curated. I ended up giving the second dessert to the guy next to me because I felt so nauseated/full. I thought the $$$ was worth the experience.

Yelp
Truly the highlight of our Portugal trip. The team here is meticulous and fully deserving of their Michelin Star. We had rezzy for 1pm and enjoyed a 14 course meal that I'll remember forever. We don't drink and don't eat meat but our experience was phenomenal despite that. The casa Flores tea was sublime and their kombucha made with matcha was great palate cleanser. 300€ for two including drinks and gratuity

Yelp
Wonderful experience! 1 Michelin star restaurant. Great wine selection. My fav dish was the squid & nage. The shrimp dish was way too salty, other than that everything was amazing. Great service , and it's open kitchen you can see everything being prepared in front of you

Yelp
Incredible experience! Just from the beginning to the end, it was an unforgettable experience! The sign to the entrance is a little small so hidden but if you follow where it shows on Google Maps, it will help you find the location. My group sat at the bar and it's just a better experience being able to see the chefs prepare everything and talk to them. But I'm sure if you don't end up sitting at the bar that you'll still have a great experience. Their restrooms are clean and they use a good subtle smelling hand soap. The high chairs are really nice at the bar because if you have a purse or shopping bags, it has a pouch at the bottom of the chair to put your stuff in! After you sit, they will scoot you into the bar. They will also help you out your chair anytime during the dining service and when you leave. Before they start, they explain everything and also give you the menu and give you the option to look at it anytime or wait til the end to flip the paper over to see what you ate. Manuel was the sommelier but we all got the nonalcoholic tasting option and he was very educated on everything we drank. He was super proud and so enthusiastic about the teas he prepared. Most of the food was good! The squid and nage was my favorite just wowwww!!!! I also liked the amber Jack, trout, croaker, and johndory. I thought their dessert was just okay. But it's a lot of food because there are some dishes not on the menu that is like a surprise. I think they are palate cleansers to help prepare you for the upcoming courses. Joao was the sous chef and he was super friendly! Very talkative but also serious about the food presentation. He got along well with the other chefs. It was nice to see how all of them worked well together and was comfortable with each other. After our dining experience was over, Joao provided a bunch of restaurant recommendations for our time in Porto and later Lisboa. That was so nice of him! They are one of the one star Michelin restaurants in Porto and I can see how they earned their one star by the service and food presentation. I would highly recommend this restaurant especially if you enjoy Michelin restaurants. You'll be saying wowww after every course and smiling a lot!

Yelp
Great food and wine with staff that were friendly and knowledgeable. However, timing was poor. Maybe just me, but a 4.5-hour meal was far too long. 7pm reservations and 8:30 reservations all ended at the same time. So maybe the answer is to book the latest available reservation?

Yelp
Wow. What an experience. Totally creative. Everything was delicious and the staff was fun. Sometimes places like this can get stuffy. Not Euskalduna; they keep it serious about their food, but they appear to love it so much they will play with you. Definitely do the chef's counter.
