Evelia's Tamales

I come here often, but today there was a new worker I hadn’t seen before, it was around 6am, she gave me attitude and made an ugly face at me when I asked her to separate the different flavors of tamales into separate aluminum. I didn’t pay much mind to it and I remained respectful, then when she gave me the bag of food she didn’t put a fork in it and when I asked her “did you put a fork inside?” (Because I didn’t see one, but maybe I just didn’t look well enough so I asked instead of accusing) she said “idk” and then when I asked her if I can get one she said “only 1 because I only give out 1 per 2 tamales” in a rude tone, but I never asked her for 2 forks, I just asked her for 1 fork, so I don’t know what the point of her snapping at me and telling me that was for.

After reading the story of the hard-working owner, I journeyed (50 min walk) to this location to try my very first tamale. The shop is beautiful, welcoming and bright. The service is wonderful and the lovely counter person cheerfully explained the menu to me. The tamales were amazing! So delicious and comforting. I bought 3 and enjoyed every moment of the experience. The choc atole was spectacular! I drank this hot drink on a 95 degree day and found it comforting and refreshing. I left very satisfied and happy. I very much look forward to visiting again. Thank you for your hospitality and for your inspiring New York story ❤️ An American dream come true 🙏🏽

Evelia makes the best tamales in the world! I’m from Mexico and neither my abuelita nor the neighbor’s abuelita were able to make tamales half as good. Their nopal salad and tortilla chips are superb. They catered for a holiday party I hosted and absolutely everyone was impressed by the food. Evelia shall be the next American billionaire once she is ready to IPO her tamale joint.

Food: I’ve noticed a significant decline in the food quality compared to when I first started coming here. On my last two visits, the tamales were noticeably bland and lacked the flavor they used to have. It’s disappointing, and unfortunately, I won’t be purchasing from them again. Staff: There have been multiple occasions where I placed large orders, only to find tamales missing once I got home. Most recently, I was overcharged for my order and didn’t realize it until afterward. While some staff members are helpful and courteous, the overall experience has been inconsistent. Price: Prices have continued to rise, yet portion sizes have shrunk and quality has declined. It no longer feels like you’re getting what you pay for. Overall: There’s a clear lack of consistency in both the food and service that’s hard to ignore. Unfortunately I will not be buying from this place again

Wow!! Authentic tamales!! Every flavor was perfection. The rajas were spot on. All 1$ and she was so sweet and all girls got the line moving quick and efficiently. So glad we found our new tamale spot! Opens at 4AM-12 but earlier the better for us!! Gracias por todo!

Fresh, inexpensive, delicious... buy 2 dozen and freeze them it’s worth it!

Had to come try these after finding out her story and omg they are delicious!! The service is great and everything is handmade and just so authentic and reminds me of my mothers tamales. Literally cannot recommend them enough!! You need to try them!

Today was my first time trying out the tamales from Evalia. I did an Uber order, my order came on time and precise. Just as expected, the tamales looked great, but the most amazing part was the taste. I don’t remember when was the last time I had such a great tasty tamales, but for now, these tamales will have to be the best ones I’ve eaten in my life. That’s is all.
