"Operating since 2002 underneath the central Junction Boulevard subway station in Corona, Evelia’s Tamales used to sell about 800 tamales a day before the pandemic, but Evelia Coyotzi says sales have fallen to between 300 and 500 daily; she attributes much of the decline to the drop in commuters and reduced subway hours (no service between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.) and fears she may have to stop the business if clients don’t return, though returning regulars help keep her going because people expect to see her there." - Caroline Shin
