Evening Star Cafe

I recently went to the evening star cafe and I had high hopes going into this. That outdoor atmosphere is fantastic, except for the loud AC unit above everyone’s heads, and I was ready for a fun and delicious meal. To start, the host was extremely kind and helpful. Our waitress did the bare minimum. Did not come by often for refills, couldn’t remember who’s meal was who’s, and just didn’t seem too excited to be there. I’ll spare more details. I only say this for reference since 5 starts is a perfect experience. I also would like to add all the rules at this place is confusing. No Tex mex unless it’s a certain day of the week, drink specials only apply if you’re in a certain section of the restaurant… it’s confusing. The food on the other hand looked great and had some great flavor around the table! I am sad to say though the French fries were the star of the show. The only perfect item I tried. My chicken sandwich was loaded with layers of different sauces and items that confused the palate into a basic meal. The crab cake had tons of flavor but was burnt (would recommend either way if you like jalapeños), and the wedge salad didn’t come out with dressing/came with burnt chicken. I forgot to take pictures, apologies. Lastly the pork starter was there for flavor but it felt like the there was more garnish then protein. Other than that all I can speak to was the drink I had. Ghost in the ship or something like that.. I couldn’t end up finishing it. With all that to say, it’s a nice relaxing area. Get a drink with a burger with fries but I dont know if I’ll be back. Maybe to try the brunch!

I am at the Evening Star a lot, but I don't always write a review. I have to say, last night's dinner knocked it out of the park. Our party of four had the meatloaf, the ribeye, the pork chop, and the scallops. Beautifully presented and everyone raved about what they were eating. My ribeye was cooked perfectly and I don't know what that little garlic potato thing was that came with it, but... oh my gawd, it was a tiny piece of magic. Three of us shared a nice bottle of zinfandel and the fourth chose a few beers from the extensive offerings. I also really enjoyed sitting out in the side garden ("The Front Porch"). The lighting is very nice and the tables are spacious. As always, the background music was great. Note: I would have liked to have had something green with my ribeye, but it's on me that I didn't notice that it did not. I could have ordered a side of asparagus. :-) Felt a little guilty not having something healthy w a massive ribeye and the sinful potato morsel!

I brought two out-of-town visitors here last night because I like the vibe and the food has always been reliably good. Indeed the vibe was fine and my halibut entree was excellent. My friend's meal was a different story. He ordered scallops and received exactly two of them for $32. Yes, they were nice and plump. Yes, they tasted good. BUT TWO SCALLOPS FOR $32 IS INEXCUSABLE. Evening Star Cafe, please up your game!

Weekend brunch was delicious. I had beef hash and hubby had the breakfast sandwich, absolutely delicious! Drinks are a bit small, but tasted great as well. Servers were very attentive. Will definitely be coming back.

Making a trip into Alexandria, I figured I’d look for the most well reviewed establishments at which to have brunch. Combined with an appealing menu, Evening Star Cafe seemed to fit the bill. I ordered The Vermonter, a cinnamon bun sandwich with fried chicken, candies bacon, fried egg, and aioli served with fries. Overall, the dish was not bad - the eggs were cooked perfectly with just a bit of run and the chicken was perhaps the most tender and moist I’ve ever had. Now the cinnamon bun was small and lacked flavor, the bacon didn’t appear to be candies at all, and the fries were basic. A major complaint was their Bloody Mary which was advertised to come with a grilled cheese and bacon skewer. The drink came without either, and about five minutes later the 1”x1” grilled cheese square was brought out; the bacon never came. My friends ordered the tostada and 3 egg breakfast. They complained about the density of the sausage patty and the selection of accompaniment for the toast. Overall the order was not so much bad as it was disappointing. I’m sure my experience was the exception as this location is so well reviewed. Definitely give them a chance. I can’t right at 10 when the brunch started, so perhaps the kitchen was still getting into the swing of the day.

I got the biscuit and gravy. I was generally happy with it but I did think it has a little too much taste to it. The service however was absolutely terrible. I mean, one of the worst that I have ever dealt with. The place was generally empty as I am attaching pictures to show it. But the waitress still took 15 minutes to get to us and she would be standing behind the kitchen door talking to someone or sitting in a booth and doing something. She took our order and never came back until the food was ready. Then, she never came back. No really, we had to grab her to ask for another drink refill of water. That refill never came. So we grabbed her again to demand the check and left. The fact that we told her that the refill never came and she never apologized or said anything else was amazing to us. We won't be returning.

Open mic night was right-sized with an excellent vibe. Ample free parking. Helpful bartenders and sound engineer. This was a pleasant step up from a drum circle. Overwhelmingly male musicians and audience. And the upstairs bathroom was very clean, but the toilet didn't flush. Otherwise 5 stars.

The food was great! Chicken bahn mi was particularly delicious. But im not here to talk about food; I’m here to talk about Kate. Wow, what a gal. Kind, patient, and a generosity of spirit that simply cannot be matched. Have you considered cloning her? It would be a very wise business decision. She made our dinner an absolute delight. I stopped in with a friend for an impromptu brunch and loved the relaxed southwest styled charm of this place. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor seating is split into two areas. We sat in the more shady patio area which offered a more temperate nook off the Main Street. I was really happy with the smoked pork hash that was on their brunch menu. It was plentiful and flavorful with a tangy barbecue. Service was prompt and helpful. Great brunch destination.

I made a reservation for Monday at 530, but honestly I didn't need a reservation and it didn't get packed until around 7. There is only street parking so be ready to find a spot. We were sat quickly and taken care of immediately. We were deciding on drinks and the owner/general manager brought us a taste to solidify our order. The beet & Brussels were so yummy! When we ordered our second glass of wine, it took quite a while to receive it and without asking it was taken off our bill. I ordered the tuna steak, and while it was delicious, I should've ordered the crab chili pasta! My friend got the scallops and said they were beyond. We finished up with the silk pie that was perfectly sweet and so light. I would definitely go again.

This place was an unexpected surprise, we saw this place a couple of times before actually going inside. Super cute diner vibes, hostess was super friendly and I feel like we picked a great time to come. It wasn't too packed for Sunday breakfast. Food was well plated ( which I observe everywhere), and the portions felt well balanced as well. Their menu was simple and I loved that. Loved the layout and the overall feel of the place. I will definitely be back to visit the backside of the restaurant which apparently is a bar!

Came in on a Saturday afternoon with a party of 4 - we didn't have a reservation and had about a 30-minute wait, so we walked around the stores while we waited. For gluten free folk - although the menu is not marked, the manager took my menu, consulted with the chef, and they marked up which items I could and could not have. Super kind! My party enjoyed the ambiance of the cafe (very cute and quaint), the service, and the quality/portion sizes of our food. We would definitely return!

This brunch spot is so good, I get the breakfast burrito that is smooth red in green chile. It makes me feel at home, as we do t get that style out on the east coast. It is a Colorado and NM staple, so it is a favorite of mine. All the dishes I have seen looked great and people we have gone with enjoyed them.

My friend and I recently dined at Evening Star Cafe in Alexandria, VA, and it was a delightful experience overall. The menu offered a diverse range of options. I went with the scallops and we shared Brussels sprouts. Both left me wanting more. Although the wine selection was good, it fell slightly short of our expectations, which is a bummer because Evening Star is attached to a wine shop and I think has the potential to offer some great wines by the glass. Regardless our wine selections complemented our meals. The atmosphere of the restaurant is quaint, exuding charm with its soft lighting and cozy ambiance. It was the perfect setting for a relaxed evening and to allow my friend and me to catch up on hours of conversation. Our server was so attentive and patient with us as we delayed order drinks, dinner, and dessert. She was consistent with her check ins and didn't hover. I look forward to returning to Evening Star Cafe. It's a great option for delicious food and a cozy atmosphere in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria.

This place is a total gem! I've probably been three times, and it's always been outstanding! It's not very big inside, but there is lots of outdoor seating. I think they make great use of the space though. I can't complain about the service either, and it's usually quite busy. But the food is the star of the show. Like I said, everything is great! We went last night and surprisingly it was restaurant week so for $45 we each got an appetizer, a main dish and a dessert. And NOT surprisingly, the food was once again excellent. Look at what we had!

Had a reservation and was seated on time. You can find street parking but it can be crowded. Waiters was very attentive and quick. I would say the timing of the appetizer and main course was way off. They both came out almost back to back. Not sure what happened there. Aside from that the food was very good. It was small onsides and a few seats outside. It can be very loud. There's also a bar in the back and their sister restaurant to the side. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would come back

What a neighborhood gem, was here for dinner last Saturday for a mini celebration with a few friends and the service was wonderful. We sat in the prime table in the window which was perfect. The food was also very good. Dishes ordered were: * braised lamb shoulder * pasta with truffled fondue (white cheese sauce) * fried chicken sandwich w/fries * roasted Brussel sprouts, and * tomato & burrata salad We all really enjoyed our experience and we will definitely be back. Was also impressed with their dessert and drinks menu (they have not one but two ports!)

Where to begin. When we got there it was empty inside. When we left it was filling up. This place is very nice inside and the lighting makes it a romantic place. We had the Chicken Tenders which was delicious! I would order again. The honey mustard sauce was to die for. The Duck pot pie was also delicious. The pot pie could use a veggie or something in addition to the pie. We washed it all down with wine and beer. Both were delicious and no complaints. If you are in the area. Evening Star Cafe is a solid choice for dinner. Prices are a bit high but you get what you pay for and the food is delicious!! I will be back to try further meals!

Evening Star is a perfectly "OK" restaurant. The interior and exterior decor/vibe is lovely and is the highlight of the experience. The menu was comprehensive but not a ton of room to accommodate allergies- which is important for me. Generally, a lot of the menu items contained dairy/gluten and the dish would be ruined with modification of those ingredients. I ordered the salmon and it was served with risotto, and I can't eat dairy, and the only thing the kitchen could offer as a side were french fries- which listen they were great, but would have preferred a veggie in oil. For $25 there are many other places in the area to get the same dish with more plentiful sides. My husband had the pasta which he loved! Overall, I felt the final bill for three people felt high for the service/food quality relative to the comparative quality/value of other restaurants in the area.

Came for dinner before a concert at the Birchmere. Intriguing decor throughout made for easy conversation. Ordered steak and fried chicken entrees, with cocktails. Everything from the service to the drinks and food were excellent. Highly recommend the steak and potatoes. Would definitely return if in the Del Ray area.

Tiny spot in del ray. Interesting lighting decor. Smaller American menu. Scallops were a super tiny portion but were cooked the right amount. Crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Steak had some good flavors with a buttery taste. Potatoes were on the fancier side but really hit the spot. Really liked the buttercream with the chocolate cake for dessert. Rich but not too rich.

Drea was our server and she was excellent! Great, timely service with attention to the smallest details. The food menu for brunch still has favorites like chicken and waffles, but also has new items. I especially liked smoked brisket toast, which is a spin on avocado toast. The umami flavors on this were amazing! Also, paired well with their house made Bloody Mary's. As always the quaint cafe delivers amazing ambiance and great food!

After checking out of our hotel, my fiancé and I drove to Evening Star Cafe to have Sunday brunch. We liked how the restaurant was decorated with steampunk wall decorations. After checking in with the hostess, we were seated at a booth near the back of the restaurant. I liked how our server Asly paid close attention to my food allergies. My fiancé enjoyed a cup of black coffee and an Orange Mimosa. I enjoyed a Pineapple Mimosa. The mimosas were strong - you could taste the champagne. My fiancé enjoyed his Smoked Beef Hash, which consisted of smoked angus beef shoulder, peppers, and onions dressed with dijonaise and topped with a fried egg. Due to my pepper sensitivity, I enjoyed a Cast Iron Frittata with cheddar and onions topped with mixed greens. We also shared a side of crispy Applewood smoked bacon.

Always friendly and efficient serving staff. Excellent Swing's Coffee served here. Every dish selection is a winner. are outstanding employees!

This is a great neighborhood spot! I think what really stands out here are the cocktails, especially for the price point. They are only $9-$10! That is unheard of!! I paid $22 for a cocktail the other night! What am I thinking?! Bartender said that they intentionally try to keep drinks affordable without sacrificing quality. They always have some interesting sports stuff on. I watches the kentucky derby and some football game last time. I do not follow any sports but after going here I can maybe last 20 seconds with sports small talk hah! I got dinner here last time. Bolognese is good. Portion is small for me but I also order carmine's family size portion for myself so do what you will with that. They have live music here sometimes and what looks like a good outdoor seating area. I always end up sitting in the dark bar in the back whenever I'm here. I think you can also buy wine at planet wine and open it/drink it there because affiliated.

Came across this place while strolling down the a street after dinner. They had fire pits set up outside with several chairs, enough to sit 5-7 parties. We went around 8:00 and were able to get a table outside right away. Inside was packed! Would love to return and try a meal inside! I got the Purple Rain and it was pretty good! Would recommend. My friend got the Comedy of Errors and it had a pretty strong jalapeño kick. The service was pretty good. Our waiter continued to check in with us to see how we were doing.

What a treat to see Parker again tonight! We love all things Evening Star, and while their menu is a standout, their service is what makes everything beyond perfect. BTW, if you're looking for a fantastic gazpacho this summer, this is the place!

We went to Evening Star Cafe for brunch. Everyone there was very friendly and the food was amazing. Every dish our table of 5 ordered was fantastic! This will be one of my new go to restaurants!

I had never been to this restaurant before; I only picked it because of it's location and the fact that I could make the reservation on Open Table. It looks kind of like an old-fashioned diner. It's very casual, and the staff are, too, because they are SLOW and certainly take their time in helping you. The menu is very limited, and while the prices fit the DC-area, the food was not worth the price. What constitutes as a "side salad" is just a handful of lettuce sprayed with a VERY salty dressing. My piece of frittata was tiny, and the breakfast potatoes were so overcooked; the outside made them rock-hard. I couldn't believe that in a small, casual place like this, with mediocre food, I almost paid $50 for two people to have lunch. I would never eat here again.

We've been there a few times years ago. Our most recent one of a few days ago was a disappointment. Our party ordered sottish salmon, tonnarelli with lump crab, chestnut soup and caeser salad. The food quality was generally good but nothing distinctive comparing to comparable restaurants' in DC area. The volume of the food was about 60% of the comparable restaurants'! The restaurant's menu sounds far more interesting than the food itself both in terms of quantity and quality. For example, my tonnarelli is supposed to have jumble lump crab meat, but I got none. What I got was a couple of tiny bits of crab meat with lots of fluff, such as capers and a pungent ingredient like garlic. You might as well call the tonnarelli as "pasta with crab meat flavor". The Scottish salmon was tiny and thin, about the size of a palm. A glass of wine is about a third of an average-sized wine glass. The service was on the good side in terms of attentiveness. The greeting lady, the waiter, and the manager were welcoming. Attitude wise I give the service five star. The result wise I give three star. I never see a restaurant serving soup without a soup spoon! I was given a tiny tea spoon, which usually is used in stirring coffee in other restaurants. It took me a while to finish the soup, not a great feel in a cold day when soup gets cold fast. When the bill came, there was a "kitchen appreciation fee" added to the bill. When we asked the waiter and the manager what it was. They told us it was an item from Covid era to show appreciation to the kitchen staff. We paid it but feel not fair for three reasons: First, an item from Covid era to address a special condition is becoming a mandatory charge to customers to cover the restaurant's overhead expense. It looks like either the owner has not paid enough to the kitchen staff or used the good will in Covid era to boost its profit. Second, if the restaurant really wants customers to show "appreciation" to the kitchen staff, it's only fair to make it a voluntary tip, like the tip line added to the waiter, rather than a mandatory charge. Third, the kitchen charge is not disclosed on the menu or website. I do not view this practice as being honest. The manager said they were simply following a lot of restaurants' practice in DC area. I don't know how many are doing that as she claimed. Evening Star owns Vermillion in Old Town Alexandria, I guess that has the same practice. But I can tell Evening Star Cafe is the first restaurant I see that practice. In the recent months I've been to five restaurants that comparable to Evening Star in Alexandria including Old Town and Del Ray, and also been to two restaurants (comparable to Evening Star) in D.C. None of them charged kitchen fee. Their food portion is much more than Evening Star Cafe's. The restaurant's ambience has changed from our previous experience. It used to be packed with people, a lively and funky atmosphere. We went there on a Thursday evening, expecting an average crowd. But the reality is the restaurant that night was more than two thirds empty! From where I can see, there were only six tables (including ours) occupied. It was dark and quiet, a bit sad. In sum, Evening Star Cafe is a lousy value hiding behind a paper-interesting menu, accompanied with old memory from its bygone funky and vibrant era. By sacrificing the quality and quantity of food, the restaurant was able to maintain a seemingly mid-price range in its menu. After adjusting for the mandatory fee and reduced quantity and quality of food, along with inadequate serving utensils, Evening Star Cafe is in fact far more expensive than any of its competitors in the same price range/class in the area. On that note, if one looks for vibrant atmosphere, good food with fair price, go elsewhere.

We took Moxie Crimefighter and Lexie Luthor to the Del Ray Farmers' Market Saturday morning. Moxie pooped on the way (she's a dog, in case that wasn't clear) and it broke through the poop bag and got on my finger. Hubbant decided to take me to brunch to cheer me up from The Poop Incident (after I thoroughly washed my hands), and we stopped at Evening Star Cafe. We sat outside in a shaded area at The Front Porch. The Eggs Bennie was great! The staff doted on our doggies with lots of ear scratches and ice water. Lexie ate all our bacon and she says, "Arf!" (That means 10 out of 10, do recommend).

Have been here twice for brunch and it has been delicious every time. The menu is pretty small for brunch food, but what they do have is really tasty. I have ordered the veggie frittata both times, but have also tried the lamb hash and the chicken and waffles. First off, would say the food is really tasty. It's also not that expensive! My favorites have been the chicken and waffles and the frittata of the few things I've tried. The cocktails are also really great, as other reviewers have mentioned. Love that you can sit outside by the fireplace at the Front Porch, which is connected to the Evening Star. Service has always been friendly too, which is a win!

That is sure to be one of my new neighborhood favorites. I am still salivating just thinking about my sandwhich. I ordered the Calabrian Chicken Sandwhich with sweet onion aioli and pickles and lettuce (I opted for no tomatoes, not my jam). I seriously could have eaten two. My son got the cheeseburger with tots. The tots and fries had to have been cooked in something magical like duck fat or something--they were phenomenal and just the right amount of crispy. Joy was our service and she was sweet as can be and attentive--even though they had a huge party outside.

The food was pretty good, but there was one think I was really disappointed with. I ordered an entree of a pork chop with pearl onions and spring peas. When it arrived, there were exactly four small pearl onions, and about twelve peas. Really? For the price I paid ($26), they could have afforded some more veggies. Also, my girlfriend ordered the braised lamb shoulder with pasta. The lamb was shredded, not a chop or anything. Tasted good, but we were surprised at how the dish came out.

OH. MY. GOSH! I honestly met the best bartender ever (besides me of course). I think their name is Magdalene? Cute human being! Service was excellent, knowledge of the menu and helping me figure out what I wanted, total perfection! Definitely come by and see this amazing human work the bar and make sure to TIP 100% cause they deserve It!!!!!!!!' Everything was perfect! And the way they shake cocktails, PRO!

Don't recommend. We ordered the fried green tomatoes. There was so little tomato, all you could taste was breading. I could have cut my finger on those tomato slices. I ordered the most expensive dinner entre - the striped bass. The serving of fish was tapas size - 2.5x2.5 inches. After this very expensive meal, I left hungry and had to make myself a second dinner when I got home. Not cool guys. It's like you are putting the least amount of food on the table to see how far you can get away with it. They could probably do a burger but I wouldn't go here for a nice meal again.

super cute spot in such a cute area! the area has loads of good shops around it. the area is incredibly walkable and outdoor/dog friendly. a good amount of indoor as well as outdoor seating throughout! the staff was so sweet and made for a nice experience :)

I love Planet Wine that's right next door and I always saw the cafe but hadn't tried it. The food always looked good and there is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors! I got the vegetarian quiche without cheese and my boyfriend got the smoked salmon Benedict and we got a side of potatoes to share. We both loved our food! My quiche was just the right size and it had a good amount of vegetables in it. The potatoes were some of the best breakfast potatoes I've had. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, but not oily or too salty at all. The side salads were also spot on. They looked simple and boring, but it was so refreshing and there was the perfect amount of dressing on it. The price wasn't too bad either. Quality food for around $45. The only reason I'm not giving a 5 star review is because it wasn't very busy, but our service was very very slow. But I would definitely recommend that you come here to try their brunch and I will be back!

I order the spaghetti and meatballs and the portion served resembled child-size. It was also lukewarm. There was barely any pasta at all, it barely passed for an appetizer. It also wasn't seasoned well. Not worth the $19. For dessert I ordered the key lime cheesecake for $11. What was served was a very tiny and thin "cheesecake" barely half of an actual piece of cheesecake. Other reviews have commented on the high prices, mediocre quality, and low portions. This is absolutely true. This was my first and last time eating here.

The ambiance is terrific, with plenty of places to eat and enjoy music outside and in. The wait staff are friendly, hospitable, even when rushed. There were two intrusions into the meal which we could have done without and which interfered with conversation, one perhaps the owner or manager and the other, a waitstaff shoving a comment card at us. The food was terrible. I've been several times in the distant past and the food then was mediocre at best. The outside Cabana area is delightful, with a fire pit and heated lamps and very comfortable to listen to bands. Inside, for dinner, the meatloaf was over salted, overcooked and tasteless with watery, probably instant mashed potatoes. Our waiter suggested a remedy to the over-salted loaf and it was helpful, but the dish could not be redeemed.The beer was watered down. I would go again to listen to music but won't order food again.

This is hands down the worst food I've eaten in years. There was really no redeeming feature other than the food arrived promptly. The kitchen deserves less than one star. This was inedible (stuff) that literally is producing food worse than frozen/microwaveable entrees. The menu is not well thought out, the few things that are edible, are bland and boring (gnocchi). Service is done through a hard to use app. Not user friendly. **Updated 8/13/21 Reading the response of the Assistant general manager, I have to laugh. There is no way in hell that this was 'farm to table.' If by farm to table, they mean it went through multiple food processors... My hamburger meat was clearly pre-frozen and bought from a giant food distributor. Not ground fresh, or anything 'unique' or 'special' to it. Having a manager respond with a blatant lie is incredibly disrespectful. And I will now make sure to post a review on google.

This is the second time I've been here. It's worth a try if you're looking for a nice place to hang out for a while in Del Ray. The ambiance is curious to impressive, but the food doesn't do it for me. On this occasion we sat at their set up outside. It started drizzling, but we stayed dry under the canopy. The live music was nice while we had it and it was a romantic set up, but my eggs Benedict with salmon was so, so salty! I expect salmon to be salty, but then the other parts of the open sandwich balance it out. Curiously, the hollandaise sauce, which should have tempered some of the saltiness had barely any flavor.

I decided to take myself out on a Sunday date, because we deserve! And I find a really cute, small diner in my town. It seemed to be picking up for its brunch hour but I was seated inside, after having to stand outside to greet a host... after greeting a host inside... I know that makes zero sense. My waffle tasted great, butter was nice and easy to spread. The chicken however, was tasteless but juicy and crispy. No seasoning was applied, only breading. The eggs were nice and fluffed but not scrambled, it was basically an egg pancake with cheese added to the top. My waiter greeted me with a curtsy and I was utterly confused so I smiled and waited for him to ask for my order. As I left, he delivered another curtsy and thanked me for joining them. Overall, not a bad experience but the chicken and eggs could have been better presentation and taste-wise.

Nice & quaint, decent food & drinks, ask for Serena, she's the best. Pet friendly as well, my boyz loved it.

We had wanted to try this place for a while so we decided to come for brunch. The ambience is pretty pleasant but that is as far as it goes. We ordered the vegetable frittata and the chicken and waffles. For the frittata, it was the smallest piece of frittata (that looked like it had been cooked earlier and reheated in the microwave) and a huge bunch of leaves soaked in a disgusting lemon dressing with cheese that didn't seem fresh. I ate the frittata because I was starving and it was edible but the dressing and cheese combo made me gag so I left the salad. My boyfriend had the chicken and waffles and was presented with an over cooked tough small piece of chicken and a soggy waffle. He complained about the chicken and asked for another piece, which to be fair they did provide, but there was no apology, they even left the waffle sitting there to get cold while they cooked another piece of chicken. The chicken we received was hot but was fatty and the batter was tasteless. For an hour afterwards he complained of feeling sick. So we paid and left, no one asked if our food was ok, nor did they say goodbye as we left and the place was not busy. Then we went down the road to a coffee shop to have a sandwich as we were still hungry and down $50 for a tiny gross brunch. I won't be back.....

If I could give 25 stars I would! The cleanliness, the quiet music in the background, the joyful staff, who made eye contact, and had great customer service, they were very, very genuine, and just lovely people! The waiter suggested a great wine to pair with my meal! He nailed it! The food: Boudin balls, brussels sprouts, gorgeous salad, just nailed everything! Seriously flavorful with different herbs, spices, seasonings, And greatness in passion for the way it was cooked! Yummy yummy yummy yummy yummy hell yeah we're coming back!

Second time was the charm. We were seated in the back by the bar and it was fabulous. Good food, great service. Love the vibe in the back.

Really wanted to like this diner. It's a cute place, but the service is slow and the food is mediocre for the price. Will not be coming back.

The flavors were delicious, perfect little spot for Brunch. Good service, though a bit busy during restaurant week. Nice place to dine for dinner or breakfast!

This is the first time I've ever left a review. Just a warning, out of the three times I've visited I have had to track down the waiter two of those visits. Our most recent visit, our waiter took our order and we did not see him or any other for the remainder of our visit. It took 36 minutes to receive our check after asking a busboy to find our waiter. I walked into the front of the store three different times to request a check. As former wait staff, I understand how difficult it can be when you are understaffed during an extremely busy day. This day was both. But there is no reason it should take 36 minutes to print a check and deliver it to the table. Eventually the hostess printed it for us on my third visit inside.

Just a lovely place. Quaint and small - can be a little noisy. We came for brunch on a Sunday with a reservation. Good beer selection. Yummy food.

Really more like 2.5 stars, but I'm rounding down. Let's start with the good. The vibes are good and the cabanas are pretty nice. The food was also decent. Came with a group for brunch and all of us enjoyed our meals. I had the quiche, which was actually really good. I also had a bite of the French toast, which was delish. Now for the bad. You order on your phone and a runner delivers your food. But you better not have any questions about the menu, because there's nobody to ask. It took us a good 15 minutes to flag someone down to ask a question, and then that person didn't know, so they had to go ask someone else, which took another 10 minutes. Our food also came out all at different times, which is really awkward when half of the group is staring at their plates while you stare at an empty spot. It just seemed like the service aspect was really off. If they had regular waitstaff I think this would have been a 3-4 star experience, but as is I don't know that I'd go back.

Loved the inside of the restaurant, it's cute and rustic! Loved the light fixtures. We went in for brunch and they immediately sat us, the hostess was prompt with our orders and food came out quicker than expected! Overall food was delicious, and we look forward to coming back again!

Great place for breakfast and brunch. Very cozy environment, space and older science decor. The mimosas and Bloody Mary are very tasty and with a nice content of alcohol. I enjoy the chicken and waffles and the duck hash the various times I've gone. Recently I tried the Vermontener (hope I spelled that right) but you would know once you see this creative chicken sandwich made with Cinnabon roll as the bread and some crispy Canadian bacon. It's a "gucky" yet yummy mess that I invite you to give it a try. My only concern is that there's not enough waiters around so you tend to wait quite a bit for your server to come around for any request or so. Otherwise, this is a nice spot for that weekend brunch quick fix.

I went to evening star café for brunch and the inside is cute. The outside looked phenomenal but since it was cold we sat inside. I got the French toast and a mimosa. I considered getting the carafe of mimosa but I'm glad I only got a glass because they use wine glasses and that was more than enough! The french toast was delicious and not overly sweet. The lemon curd gave just the right amount of tang and balanced out the blueberry compote. I would definitely recommend for a boozy brunch!

Evening Star Cafe is a restaurant located in downtown Del Ray, offering dinner, weekend brunch, desserts, cocktails/wine, as well as a lounge area. The hubs and I came here on a weekend to grab some brunch eats: I had the Ham & Cheese Benedict (an English muffin topped with ham, a poached egg, pimento cheese, and hollandaise sauce with a side of lightly-dressed mixed greens; I liked that it was a generous amount of hollandaise sauce, and the combination of the ham and the pimento cheese with the muffin tasted good; the salad was fresh and addicting with the vinaigrette); the hubs had the Sausage Egg & Cheese Biscuits (came with 2 of these in sandwich form with a side of lightly-dressed mixed greens salad; I am not a fan of folded scrambled egg, but without this, the biscuit sammies were tasty), and a side of Biscuits and Gravy (the gravy was more on the sweeter side). We enjoyed each of the plates, but I just wish that all of the items came out piping hot. It seemed as if the items were either at the lower end of lukewarm or just cold. Service was friendly, and the place itself is cute and kitschy, with nuts and bolt decor and light fixtures. A great place for affordable brunch!
