Everyman Screen on the Green

The very best, we fell in love with this place and love going to the cinema here. They have a 35mm projector which is very rare and they put on some awesome throwback films and special events as well as new and popular showings. An absolutely great viewing experience with great food, drinks, and the staff are AWESOME! If you go, you’ll want to keep coming back. Keep up with the special showings they’re putting on, it’s a magical experience!

Went to a Baby Club viewing. Very good! Comfortable seats.Service was great. My only comment would be that the baby changing isn't in the best place (it blocks one of the 2 women's cubicles), but I don't know if there's anywhere else to install baby changing facilities. And I guess, most films won't have babies in attendance! Overall, really enjoyed the experience and will be back.

Loved it the ambience. From outside, it doesn't look like a movie theatre as its infront of a busy bus stand. So just as its look from outside, its not a big theatre with approx 120 seats with a fantastic bar inside (its one of the unique feature). They serve drinks and light food with of course-popcorns! The asthetics look old as the screen is still covered by curtain, which tells the theatre offers other than movies, which is great, too! Now let me tell you all how I got there. On the first of June, I got lucky to attend a private screening of Spiderman-Across the spider-verse along with a GUEST. The event was organised by little known Socios app and Arsenal FC. The guest was over the moon as it appeared as a birthday gift in blessing in disguise and furthermore, an avid Spiderman-to be precise- Miles Morales, fan! He enjoyed the two hours train and tube travel to reach the place and free cold Lemonade along with 3 boxes of popcorn! All free! Two fans won Signed Arsenal kit but everyone got free scarf as a souvenir! It was a free event however like to go this place with a ticket some other time. Please go and enjoy this place, I bet you will love it. NB: The guest turned xis and told me "he had a best birthday ever"! Thank you Everyman Screen on the Green, Socios and Arsenal!!

Exceptionally comfy seats and great service. The tortillas and guacamole tasted fresh and went down a treat with Prosecco! It was well worth the few extra pounds compared to the chains. We shall return to the iconic retro venue.

Unique experience, great staff, comfortable seats and pretty amazing ambiance. Had a late flight back so we decided to watch a movie to kill time. Luckily, the cinema was right next to our hotel. We were really glad that we ended up watching a movie in such a unique (one of its kind) cinema.

I love this cinema! I have been going to this place for over twenty years I think. Over that time it has obviously had a few face lifts. The most recent I think was the new seating which is absolutely wonderful. Very comfortable, even when sitting through a long film and there's so many of them being made now. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a great example. Everyman Screen on the Green has always been a place for the more passionate film fan. They often show the lesser known films and do special screenings of popular films. My partner and I just watched an evening film at this cinema and I saw a mouse/rat run along the floor. A few minutes later my partner had a mouse/rat run along his arm! (We were sitting in the sofas to the side of the screen). We reported it to the manager who was surprised and not very helpful - it’s worrying because there was a report of this a year ago and I’m concerned about the lack of hygiene. I’ve filed a formal complaint asking for an investigation asap

A very cosy cinema with lots of character in a great location. The seats are very comfortable and you get snacks and drinks delivered to your seat without having to miss a film by waiting at the bar. Perfect for a date.

This is one of the better cinemas in north London. It only has a single screen, but what it lacks in size, it makes up in character. The policy here seems to be to show slightly alternative films - I say slightly because they are not exactly experimental, but the usually the latest arthouse or leftfield Hollywood offering. On more than one occasion, a showing I have attended has spilled out onto the street and turned into an impromptu debate among strangers. Its not cheap, but then neither are the concrete and glass multiplexes. Plus you can buy all sorts of delicious and unusual snacks here such as brownies or hot chocolate.

If enjoy films are thought provoking then here you can find a handful of them, usually the ones that have been screened at Sundance film festival or Venice film festival and/or have won awards at such events. It is such a refreshing alternative to the 12 screen Vue cinemas or Odeon, with only one screen, one ticket booth, one tiny snack stand. The seats are red velour and could do with a re upholstery, but then again if that is what you are after you can visit the one in Baker Street. On second thought it is best to keep the old seats its like an old couch, the only reason its so good its because its so old.

Independent cinema my ass. Independent of what? There are eight cinemas in the Everyman Cinema Club chain alongside its endeavors in advertising, retail, hospitality and TV, all under the slogan 'Building a Global Community'. Global people, not local, although I'm sure, if you're local to Islington you'll consider Screen on the Green a nice little local cinema. To be fair there are intimations of independence to this cinema, the programme is a teeny, weeny bit left of centre, there is only one screen, and the snacks are not your usual movie fare but I'm afraid, all things considered, Vue Islington is a far superior cinema. Bigger screens, more screens, more choice. It's just. Better.

Such a charming little theatre! It's only got 1 screen, very comfy seats, and great sound. Sure, the screen isn't IMAX-sized, but big enough for me. Inside the theatre there is a bar at the back serving freshly popped popcorn, and they will deliver hot cocoa with Baileys to your seat! Too cold? Let them know and they will turn up the heat or give you a blanket. Try for the couch seats if you can (same price, but they book up quickly). I far prefer this experience over the big name cinemas... friendly staff and a comfortable environment.

A beautiful independant cinema centrally located in Angel - Islington. Just one screen here but one of the most cosy and relaxed environments inside. Huge comfy sofas and seats, restling legs objects and a full operating bar inside the screen's room. The absolute experience for romantic screenings.

Coming from the states I have been to a few "fancy" movie theaters, but nothing as comfortable as this one! The couches are fantastic, but so are the chairs, and the food and beverage options are out of this world! I was lucky enough to see the It reboot here with one of my best friends and it was the perfect ambiance, they even decorated with paper boats.

Screen on the Green happens to be once of my favourite cinemas in the country, which, due to my limited experience, means it hits my top 5 cinemas in the WORLD too! WOW, with that to recommend it why aren't you always coming here? So, seriously. I love that the cinema seats are more like armchairs, with the VIP seats being a sofa for tow, with a footstool so you can really enjoy the cinema experience as if you were at home. The bar at the back of the theatre adds to the atmosphere, serving drinks and food through the adverts to give you enough time to get your order in. It smells divine. Plus alcohol can improve many a cinema going experience. The ladies loos are a little on the small side, situated to the back of the theatre right by the entrance there is always a queue to use them unless you go during the film. They are perfectly nice and always well stocked with tissues! The entrance hall is shabby-chic, with a small waiting area for you to stay whilst they clean the cinema and set up the bar. Whilst I love this cinema, the prices are a little steep, and I have had two dates here that haven't gone well, despite the sofa seats, (once because they guy sucked, once because we wanted different things, also the cinema was WAAAY too warm that day) so in the style of a petulant child I have knocked off a star for that.

Hello fellow moviegoers! What could be better than our favourite American pastime than a night at the movies? This is a movie theatre from the days when they were made to look classy and glamorous. The glitzy, dazzling retro sign-age outside beckoning you in adds a touch of style and makes you feel like you've gone back in time. Keeping with the theme, inside the decor is tasteful and there is a stunning full bar covering the back of the the theatre. The seats are all red velour and very comfortable. I like the fact that I can have a beer instead of a soft drink with my popcorn and there is a wide range of food and drink available on the menu. It's also a nice touch that they offer for you to go and relax in your seat and they'll bring it over to you before the movie starts. I went to see Only God Forgives and whilst I may have left being a bit disappointed with the movie, I was in no way disappointed with my overall experience and will definitely be back again!

I love going to Screen on the Green. The seats are comfortable, there is a really good feel in the place, they serve beer and freshly made popcorn and sweets and then they serve it to you in your seats once you've ordered if you have to wait for anything. WHta else could you want from your cinema experience other than a good film!! And best of all is the price. We (Ian P and I) went to see something in the day and it was only £10, cheaper than the Vue up the road AND they put us in a sofa for the same price which is great because they come with footstools and are super comfy. Regular seats are really comfy too though and on an evening are £12.50, Sofas £14.50 which is the same if not a little more than the vue but you get such a better experience!! Often opening weekends sell out so well worth booking if you are keen but would always recommend a visit here over the Vue if you can!! Enjoy! xyz

Cozy love seats for a couple or separate seats if you aren't on a date are just so comfy plus a lot of leg room does the movie experience extremely enjoyable. Having the bar at the back of the actual cinema hall might be annoying if they decide to wash dishes while the movie is on - but on my memory it only happened once. They serve beers, wines to the seats and each seat has a little table on the side so you wouldn't have to put your pop corn on the floor so no risk accidentally knocking it over all over the floor. Try their cupcakes - they're good! And they also not funny about bring your own snacks to the cinema - I brought over some fruits and a friend brought a burrito. It's a bit more expensive than Vue Islington nearby but the experience is worth it. It's the movie experience you get which is now mostly lost by all big cinema brands. Well I am super lucky to have it a short bus ride away :)

What a fantastic cinema (albeit on the pricey side). As other reviewers have said, the highlights are the seats which provide plenty of room to stretch out and relax with side tables for your cinema snacks. The best seats are the sofas for two at the back which give you a bit more space and bigger side tables. Before you sit down for your film, make sure you take a moment to take advantage of the bar at the back of the cinema (don't worry, it closes before the film starts). Beer/wine is on offer together with a range of upmarket cinema snacks - wasabi peas and my favourite. Only downside is that there is only one screen, so if the film you want to see isn't on, you have to slum it elsewhere...

What a fantastic cinema. A world of civilisation away from your standard chain cinema. We walked in took our seats and relaxed in comfort. Raked back comfortable seats with tons of leg room, felt like business class. There is premium seating also if you want to pay a £1 or two more that comes with a mini table and foot rest. \That must equate to first class. Love the 'in theatre' bar. You can order wine, beer, coffee, hot chocolate, cakes and small food plates. The staff take your order and bring directly to your seat as the trailers roll by! Friendly staff (not always the experience in other places). All makes for a superb and far superior movie experience. Just down the road from where I live so even better!

WOW! Has this cinema had an awesome upgrade. Though the assigned seating can be a bit annoying, it allows you to buy your tickets online and select your seats, without feeling the rush of having to get there early to get a good seat. Now, they also offer comfy couches in the back! Their new screen is huge, so you'll still get a good view. And what cinema isn't complete without a fully decked out bar? Cocktail during my guilty pleasure rom-com? YES PLEASE! P.S. They also offer "movies with your baby" so I suppose, if I decide to have kiddies, I don't have to suffer from too much cabin fever.

Hands down my favourite cinema in London. Jolly, unpretentious staff, even though they show more independent films than your average cinema. In fact, I've found the staff here a lot more fun and better at customer service than some other Everyman Cinema venues. With the cosy sofas and armchairs, it's another great date spot (dying for a date much?!). Bringing someone to this venue would seriously impress someone expecting your average 'dinner and movie' date. The only thing you should be aware of is that the prices are a bit higher than average, but you pay for what you get. Also - the cinema munchies are not the usual. You can settle down with a bottle of wine or a cup of coffee here, instead of a litre of diabetes-inducing coke (not that I'm judging - I love my cinema coke!). This is not at all a downside - just managing your expectations! Final note is to warn you that once you get used to this cinema, it will be VERY hard to go back to the chains...

My butt was sooooo happy to be sitting in this theatre. Deep plush couches w/footstands FTW. This is the second Everyman I've been to--the other one was near Hampstead Heath. I'm seriously considering buying a pricey (£48/year) membership just to support this place. I found the tickets prices at £10-£12.50/seat to be a bit cheaper than Vue and Odeon. You can drink wine here, and at £5-7 for a big glass it's not that bad. The screen isn't an IMAX screen obviously but it's adequate, and the sound was really good too. Also random and nifty--if you book your tickets online you can ask them to send you a mobile ticket with a barcode they can scan.

Woah! Like woah, woah, woah this might be my most favourite cinema in London. I don't care what all these three star yelpers are talking about here but if you are going to put me in an independent cinema, have a fully loaded with cocktails, let me sit on a sofa with my very own foot stall then I'll give you 6 stars god damn it! I'll also be more than happy to hand over £12 for the pleasure. This is *the* cinema to go to if watching a film for you is a pleasure. It's not about seeing some crap fluff starring Jennifer Lopez/Hillary Duff, its about exploring new film, learning from ground breaking documentaries and watching something that makes you think. It's passionate, it's intelligent, it's totally worth a visit.

The bar was something out of my cocktail infused dreams... and then a fantastic film was involved. Does it get any better? Oh yeah, comfy snuggle-worthy seats (one might even classify them as snouches, if the spirit moves...), flip down cushy foot rests, and a fantastic line up of indie flicks and documentaries that I'm not ashamed to mention are my absolute favourite films. Munch on wasabi peas, grab a cocktail and get comfortable with all that culture infusion.

A full price adult ticket here is the same as what you'd pay to have popcorn thrown at you whilst straining to hear over the chit-chatter of kids after waiting in a rowdy queue at Vue a couple of blocks away... I'll take the Everyman, every time. Order drinks and snacks at the bar which will then be delivered to your allocated cushioned red velvet haven for you to enjoy throughout the film, which is more than likely to be a good one, with limited screens the showings are wonderfully curated to an appropriately cultured selection. Angel smugness? Most certainly.

This cinema kicks all other cinemas' asses! Seriously, you can kick back in a comfy sofa, put your feet up on a stool and have the waiters bring you wine. Amazing! 1. There's a bar IN the theatre, serving grown-up drinks and snacks.. and cake! 2. Wine, they have wine! 3. Bathrooms are in the theatre, you can even still hear the movie playing 4. Really friendly and chatty staff, they refunded our extra ticket even though they didn't have to I want to see all my movies here from now on, and it is a great date spot to cozy up on the couches.

Went to the screen on the green for my first time yesterday after constantly driving past it for about a year now. I'd always wanted to go in, to support them at the very least, b/c I'm sure they get a lot of competition from the VUE that is about a block down the road. There was a student discount, which was friendly, and I don't know if they would have busted me, but I snuck in snacks from the Tesco across the street. The primary focus of this review is to brag about the seats. BIG comfy red old style movie seats! the kind that you see in old movies.. while you are the old movie theater... And the bathrooms are IN the theater so if you have to make an emergency run for the loo you don't miss that much of the film! They usually seem to make pretty good movie choices so I will probably be there again. Maybe next time I'll see you.

The Screen on the Green is a legendary little piece of Islington. I'd heard about it before I'd ever even been to London, as it was host to one of the most important punk shows in history, when the Buzzcocks and the Clash opened for the Sex Pistols. It's a small cinema (only one screen, I believe) so there isn't much choice, but they've essentially chosen for us as they are usually playing something good. They also do live music/comedy & movie pairings on weekends, which I'm yet to try, but they look fun. It's part of the 'Everyman' cinema group, so it is a little ironic that 'the everyman' is probably priced out, as it's a bit pricey at 10-12 sqid a pop. However, they've got to stay in business and I'd much rather catch a flick here than at one of the megaplexes, even at a slight premium. It's a testament to the establishment that I still think it's worthwhile. I'm a big believer that the cinema itself is an important part of the movie-going experience, and this place gets everything right. The sofa seating is incredibly comfortable, and it is quite relaxing when paired with a bottle of wine from the bar. Add in some of the nicest customer service I've ever received, and I will definitely be coming back.

The Screen on the Green actually really irritates me. I'm prepared to put up with a lot in the name of defending independent cinemas against the big chains, will deal with uncomfortable seats, minimal legroom and draughty toilets, but the Screen does not invite me to love it anymore. Stingey with their concessionary discounts (only at the first showing of the day), showing an odd choice of films for weirdly long runs whilst by-passing other appealing options and lagging behind in terms of available cinema refreshments, the only reason I still continue to frequent it is out of a long-standing loyalty and a fear that if the cinema fails, the lovely building will too.

I haven't reviewed you lil guy?? Well let's remedy that ASAP. The Screen on the Green is a great alternative to the N1 and plays better movies in my opinion. They'll pack in a big name feature every now and then to rake in the dough and that allows them to offer up some fab indie titles and not worry about how many people it'll fill up with, but know that the ones that go will *appreciate* the cinematic choice. The Screen is big and open and airy and reminds you of how cinemas used to be back in the day before they chopped up your local into a 3-5 screen hot mess with tinier screens. Support good cinema! It's part of the Everyman umbrella that has other screens in Hampstead, Richmond, etc.. so if you like your local, then encourage your friends to go to one of the indies near them. You'll also get to enjoy the classics every now and then, so check the listings and see what's filtering through! .. ah.. ahem.. why are you still reading this? go, go check the listings!! shoo!

My favourite cinema in London by far. Not your typical cinema. You can get armchairs and sofas and order food and wine delivered to your seats. The bar at the back is a very cool touch. It's also the same price as your big cinema chain. All definitely adds to the experience.

I've been to Screen on the Green quite a few times now, and it's been a delightful experience every time. First, I love the comfortable seatings they have and the retro ambience. It's almost like a private, luxury cinema/theatre experience, taking a step back into the oldie days. Second, I love the concept of serving wine and bites within the theatre. It's a perfect combination of entertainment and dining -- with a little sip of wine, your cinema experience just gets that much better. The only downside is their loo facilities. They're small and old, so the ladies room, especially, can get quite crowded and inconvenient. Definitely a must-try on a relaxing weekend!

Top 5 hell maybe top 3 cinema in London and we are lucky to have so many great ones in London. Beautiful setting in beautiful area with beautiful (and funny) signage outside. Love it here.

Not quite as nice as it's sister cinema Screen on the Hill up near Belsize Park - but it's still a great place to go watch a movie. It's got slightly less room than S on H, but the chairs are still a lot comfier than your average Odeon and the experience is a lot better as well with helpful staff, decent prices and always an interesting film on. The lobby is pretty small though and it can get a bit bonkers if its opening night or the first few days of opening. However, as long as the weather is ok, its kinda of a fun experience queuing out of the door to watch a film - plus you get the bonus of having a look at the very 'old school' & attractive cinema frontage. It's an authentic oldschool cinema, and their program is largely faultless. My only problem with it is the sound system is pretty terrible, but if you're off to see a documentary then that doesn't matter so much I guess.

This is a perfect venue for those of us who appreciate your more art-house/world cinema/blabla: good films (different listing from the Vue) in a cool and authentic location. My dad used to go here in the 70s, and nothing much has changed. Films are only shown for a wk or so (only 1 screen), so if you fancy a film that is on - hurry up!

Great local cinema in Islington. I had no idea places like this still existed - but they've managed to find an identity with a small room, big screen, good sound, comfortable seats, and a selection of good snacks/drinks. The premium seats are 2-seater sofas, with foot-rests - so if you're after a bit of luxury to take a date - go for it. I found the picture and sound quality to be great - which is what you need from a cinema. Good show!

My favourite cinema in London. It may not have the best sound system in the world, but what it lacks in audio quality, it certainly makes up for in style , substance and atmosphere. They always show the most interesting current films in world and european cinema. The seat are really comfy and the sincema attracts a failry adult crowd - so you don't get the annoying shouting pesky kids. And when you walk out of the cinema you feel as if you have been transported back in time, it creates a lovely glow of warm London heavy nostalgia. Not sure why it is listed as Hoxton here though.

Excellent little arthouse cinema in Angel. It's easily missed, but it's woth seeking out if you're a fan of film. The films it shows tend to be small scale or foreign and as such it attracts a different crowd than your regular multiplex. The people who run this place obviously have a profound love of film and it echoes through the whole cinema. As with most arthouse cinemas the quality of the screening is key and here it is always immaculate. Refreshingly, no-one talks through the movies either. My one criticism would be the size of the cinema - it has the smallest foyer I've ever seen in a cinema and it gets extremely crowded before a screening, so I'd recommend you turn up well in advance. This is well worth a visit, particularly because occasionally they also offer director Q&As. Easily one of the best cinemas in London.

Pretty nice little local arty cinema. They even showed a Danish movie the other day. Compared to Vue further down the street it is billion times nicer. You can get coffee and cakes - no popcorn as far as I remember. Which is a nice thing. I found the seating really bad (here granny goes again) and the very long movie I was watching felt even longer because of that. And not much space to the legs either. And I really don't have long legs..or a big ass for that matter. But all in all it is a really nice cinema.

Screen on the Green. So. Lucy and I ran out of The Vue which was full and arrived, a little out of breath (any more would be embarrassing because it's only a couple of minutes' walk up the street) at Screen on the Green where, serendipitously, our film of choice was starting in 10 minutes. Lovely! Unfortunately, they don't do Orange Wednesdays which would normally have me grumbling but, you know, I'm all for supporting independent cinema and all that. So we bought our tickets (£12 each did feel rather steep, I must admit) and got the best seats in the house. Which according to Lucy are right at the bloody front. I prefer the very back so we settle for middle-ish. My point is, we had the pick of the place. I really like the décor, the comfy old-skool seats, the feeling of being in The Drifters' delightful ditty Saturday night at the movies, who cares what picture you see...I'm a sucker for nostalgia. A stripey box of popcorn would've made the picture complete but apparently they don't do popcorn. The screen was big, the sound was good and we all left feeling like a little no-strings fling in Europe would be quite nice (the film in question was Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona, FYI). But...(I know, I'm SO hard to please) 3 things. The toilets sadly were not up to much. There were only 2 women's toilets and one of which was out of order but no one had bothered to put a sign on. I couldn't be bothered to queue (it was about 8-strong at the end of the film) so I girded my loins and braced myself for the bus home. Second are the overpriced tickets which lead me to my third gripe which is that, for me, independent cinema should really be for the everyman, with ticket prices to match. Isn't that the idea? Call me a champagne socialist but it saddens me that only the middle classes can enjoy going to a non-chain cinema with slightly edgier films on offer because the cost of tickets is so high.

I think I want this place to be better than it is. Being a firm supporter of independent cinema I was optimistic when I first moved to Islington that The Screen on the Green would become my local. However, when four weeks had past and it still hadn't changed its only film, I realised that it wasn't to be. The Screen on the Green looks great both inside and out and clearly a real effort has been made to maintain it's quirky 1950's look. Sitting in the very heart of Islington, it has become a bit of an institution and there are often queue's outside. Personally though, I don't think the £8.50 ticket is worth it. Unlike the nearby Rio or the more central Curzon group, The Screen on the Green doesn't seem to want to pull in new customers and seems quite happy sticky to the same old formula. This means that concession tickets are very rare, the film choices often seem a bit bizarre and the staff are quite pretentious. I think the Simpsons must have based 'Comic Book Guy' around the man that sold me my ticket. What started as an interesting conversation about the cinema seemed to turn in to a test. As a student, I failed and did not merit his attention. Sadly for such a great venue, the Screen on the Green did not fulfill my expectations.

I do love this place. If you can get the sofas at the back with your date I recommend this. Ok so the screen is not as big as what you get in Leicester Square but it's cozy, and the fact they are all really comfy chairs is a highlight and after a hard day working with spreadsheet and figures, this is a perfect place to chill. Usually choose great films to show too. Finally the bar is great for a quick mingle and a nice cold beer.

Can't believe I've lived in London for so long and never been here. Brilliant sofas (pay a little extra but worth it), bar and popcorn. What more could you want? Ok I've only given 4 stars as I would have liked some pick and mix but they do have posh snacks. Great cinema experience.

I love the 'premier' seats at the back for snuggling up on a hungover Sunday. The whole thing is a really nice treat...but definitely a treat as with some snacks and tickets it came to about £50 for the two of us. Defo not a cheap night at the cinema! I think the bathrooms could be improved as well. Otherwise love the place.

Screen on the Green is a small cinema on Upper Street in Islington. With only one screen you have to rely on their choice of films, but they always pick the latest art house movie, or at least show a more interesting selection than the usual blockbusters. It's not cheap, at £8.50 (£6.00 concessions Mon-Thurs) but this being London, the cinema prices are all much the same. And the seats being this comfortable, it's almost like being in your own living room... except the sound & picture quality is better, and they don't pause the film for your toilet breaks. It gets pretty packed, especially during the weekend, so get there early, grab a snack from the bar (wasabi peanuts or white chocolate raspberries make for a more unusual alternative to popcorn) and settle back to enjoy the film.

This is simply my favourite cinema in London. Great seats, olives and decent wine at your seat, cheaper and closer to home than the West End? What's not to love? I wouldn't go as far as to see a film I didn't like just for the experience of hanging out here, but it has certainly made the difference between seeing a film and not bothering on one or two occasions.

As a local arthouse cinema with a single screen showing independent and foreign films, the Screen on the Green should be my idea of heaven. Unfortunately, it is somewhat flawed, mainly due to the seating, which is not only bum-achingly painful [try watching a three hour classic in one of these without shifting uncomfortably and gaining a bruised coccyx] but terribly laid out. I appreciate that this was a theatre in a past life and they've kept the original seating layout, but clearly people who attended this building when it was a theatre were shorter, had less.. bounteous hair, and had heads that did not sit in the centre of their bodies, allowing them to see past the person in front of them and enjoy the entertainment. On a recent visit the cinema was full so I was forced to lean forward and to the left throughout the 145 minute film in order to see past the permed princess sitting right in front of my eyeline. On the plus side, I made intimate friends with the crotch of the elderly gentleman to my left. Bonus. If you want to see a film that's been on release for a while/a daytime showing then this is a good choice- grab a coffee and some of the really tasty chocolate buttons, pick a seat, put your feet up on the one in front and relax- but avoid if it's the first weekend of a show or you have back problems.

Since discovering this cinema in the last year, this has become my favourite place to see films that I think will be special. For one, the layout of the place is terrific. The seats, which are all plush and comfortable, are well spaced out with side tables on which to rest your drinks and snacks. There are comfortable sofas at the back, for which the tickets cost a bit extra, but I have found the cost to be worth it (especially when watching the three hour restored Metropolis!). The bar at the back of the theatre serves wine and snacks, often served at your seat and thankfully shuts down as the film is about to begin. This is a classy venue which I plan on patronising for years to come.

If you have any doubts, just do this place. The treats/drinks are reasonably priced, the crowd and staff are cool (yeah, I like to be in "cool" place on a Tuesday night, make that echk sound with impunity I might be able to handle it), and film selection is top notch. Other places might show Woody's Manhattan at midnight on Saturday, but I'm ignorant of them so S on the G gets my love. Good Times

I went to The Screen on the Green last night to see Cobain: Montage of Heck. I have to say it's totally worth paying more (and only a few pounds more) than your average Vue or Odeon to visit an Everyman or a Picture House. The table service, the range of drinks and food and the comfortable seating make the whole experience more enjoyable and add a touch of glamour to cinema.

This is a pretty good cinema, always sporting one or two cool independant films and is of course lovely to look at if old cinemas are your thing. The staff are very knowledgable and friendly, and the seats are nice and roomy and comfortable although i must admit that the price of admission is slightly high, and if i'm in the area and looking to catch a film i'm usually likely to wind up at the Vue multiplex around the corner, even though indie flicks are what i would prefer to watch. One other nice thing about the cinema is that the ticket booth / stairwell is dark and tiny, so it feels kind of EXCITING to buy a ticket! Great pie and mash over the road too.

Brilliant little arty cinema. Get the sofa seats if you can as those are the most comfy with the best leg room. They have little tables to put drinks onand they serve retro sweets and snacks too! Lovely alternative to the standard rubbish you get in Odeon or Vue. Bar is at the back of the screen room so very handy too. The choice of films is also pretty good you get more indie films that are hard to catch elsewhere. The only flaw really is the tiny lobby that everyone has to crowd into while waiting to be allowed in to the screen.

Sack off the impersonal, brash Vue down the road and head straight to the Screen On The Green, where you can be assured a more classic cinema experience. Lovely, cosy chairs (although slightly cramped) and quality programming means that whenever you head down you will leave suitably satisfied and cinematically stimulated. Staff are friendly, prices are reasonable although the foyer does get crammed!

Just the fact that this cinema has retained many a time honoured tradition makes it a must day/night out for anyone. This cinema has many fond memories for me, from seeing avant garde riskque films back in the 80's to the all night back to back showings of Star Trek I,II and III with Mr. Walls and Mr. Meany ah happy days. Not overly disabled friendly but it's doable. This cinema is small but that doesn't mean the experience is, the compact and bijou nature only adds to the whole cinematic experience. The prices are average for cinemas but beware queues can be long and there's no guarantee you'll get in so arrive early.
