Genesis Steakhouse Will Reopen in Houston as Exodus Bar and Grill | Eater Houston

"A reimagined, non-kosher bar and grill from the same owner aiming to attract less-observant neighborhood diners while retaining some continuity with the previous menu—several steaks and chickens will remain kosher-certified, but many dishes intentionally mix meat and dairy, including a gumbo with shrimp, sausage, and chicken and a Swiss cheese–topped cheeseburger. The menu also preserves former favorites like sushi, rib-eyes, and beef short ribs and is inspired by the Hillstone/Houston's upscale neighborhood-restaurant model. It will be open daily (weekdays from 11:30 a.m., Saturdays from 4 p.m., Sundays from 1 p.m., with brunch to follow), expects a May opening after decor updates, and features renderings of a wood-and-brick dining room with white linens, leather booths, and Texas-themed wall art. The location is in Meyerland at 80 Braeswood Square." - Courtney E. Smith

This new restaurant was one we wanted to try, and we were not disappointed. The food was outstanding, the service friendly and serving portions were quite large. The menu was extraordinarily diverse (sushi, pastas, steaks, seafood, soups, burgers, deli sandwiches, etc., etc.) and we're not sure how the kitchen will deal with such a large number of items in the long term, but our order was well-prepared, served hot and was delicious. We had the Exodus Gumbo, Pecan Texas Fried Chicken, the Chicken Dayanis and Carrot Cake, and all were outstanding. With so many options we DIDN'T try, we'll definitely be back.

My husband and I really enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere! The menu is extensive. There’s something for everyone.

This was a huge surprise. It’s a small, locally-owned restaurant with a significant and diverse menu featuring everything from sushi, to burgers, to chops, to steaks. The ambience is simple (with great classic rock and pop) and the staff is simply perfect. The food was not only flavorful and served hot, but competes with well-known steak houses. I have an incredible NY Strip that was delicious from start to finish. The wine selection is simple, but offers good options. The bar is fully stocked. I mentioned the sushi - do not disregard this side of the menu. The chef has over a decade of experience as a sushi chef and the offerings are amazing, fresh and creative. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough and look forward to returning. A big shout out to our waiter Rusty - the guys is a pro!

Food really good. Shrimp corn chowder of the day was wonderful. Gumbo was good Lousiana approved. No pork at all. Really nice service.

Great food, cute place! Meyerland always needs more options like this.… Note to self - allow additional time for more cocktails 🍸 😬! Short rib tacos were great, but no pic bc we ate them too quick!

I heard about this new restaurant on Nextdoor and decided to try it at an odd time (about 3:30 pm). There were two other tables occupied besides mine. The place is nicely appointed with loads of Westwrn style art and a plan. Cement floor. A nice selection of booths and tables of which some are with white tablecloths. There was one busboy and one water. The busboy greeted me fairly promptly and got me water. The waiter took longer tha. I thought he should given there were only three tables and he wasn’t attending g to the other two when I arrived. Also, my water glass was empty and he did not seem to notice for most of the meal. I didn’t say anything g as I wanted to see if he’d ever notice. He did but it was almost at the end of the meal. Now the good stuff. My hamburger was probably the best I’ve had anywhere in Houston. It was the mushroom and cheese option and it was SUPERB. I am guessing g that it arrived open faced in a brioche bun. I don’t usually care for hamburger buns as they are too doughy. Not here. Great bun. And the thick hamburger made with angus beef is not at all greasy nor dry. Honestly….a perfect burger in my opinion. I opted for o ion rings instead of fries. The three onion rings were the breadcrumbs style which is not what I usually prefer (I like the thick flaky crust kind) but I have to say they were really good. They were not salty and I think I sensed a hint of paprika. I’d absolutely get this again. Most restaurants do not have anything that I crave for afterwards. Albeit the menu at Exodus is quite extensive and had many things I will try later, I have been craving that burger everyday. I love Greek salads and got one to go. It was also a great option. One thing I noticed is that the olives were not overwhelmingly salty as found elsewhere. I added 6 nice sized grilled shrimp and they were cooked perfectly and made the Greek salad even better. Although exodus has an extensive sushi menu (I think about half the menu) and I love sushi, I am somewhat hesitant to eat this at a restaurant that may not (yet) be busy. Just fearful of sushi that may not be up to my standard of freshness. A high volume restaurant offsets this reluctance. Maybe in the future.

A Much-Needed Gem in Meyerland – Exodus Bar & Grill Houston, especially the Meyerland area, just got a serious upgrade with the opening of Exodus Bar & Grill. This place is exactly what the neighborhood—and honestly, the city—needed. From the moment you pull in, the experience is smooth. Ample parking makes a big difference in Houston, and Exodus delivers on convenience. Step inside and you're welcomed into a stylish, modern space that still feels warm and inviting. The attention to detail in the design is impressive, making it perfect for everything from casual dinners to date nights or celebrations. Now to the real star: the menu. It’s packed with flavor and creativity. Whether you're in the mood for something hearty or lighter fare, there's something for everyone—and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The drinks menu is just as well-thought-out, with craft cocktails that rival any high-end bar in the city. And the service? Five stars without question. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. You can tell the team here cares about creating a top-tier experience. Exodus Bar & Grill isn’t just another restaurant—it’s a destination. Meyerland residents are lucky to have it so close, and it's well worth the drive from other parts of Houston. Highly recommend checking it out before the word really gets out.

Yelp
Exodus atmosphere, ambiance and FOOD is amazing! Nothing about this place disappoints. The food options are endless and delicious. My favorite is the sushi. I have been several times and I will continue going back.

Yelp
The food and service were both amazing! The cauliflower was excellent. The truffle hamachi was amazing. Our server James was hilarious and made excellent recommendations. Will definitely go again!

Yelp
Didn't even get to the food, walked out after being in there for 10 minutes because it reeked like a public bathroom.

Yelp
We had an great meal at Exodus Bar and Grill! This was our first visit and we will head back soon. The atmosphere was very comfortable and casual. It is rare to read a menu and find too many great sounding dishes. They have a large sushi menu. We started with one of the best spinach and artichoke dips. My burger was the best in town. Are you sitting down? It was Angus beef, topped with beef bacon, fried egg, and cheddar cheese on a pretzel bun! I chose onion rings as my side. I am pretty sure they were homemade. My wife's pecan crusted chicken breast was outstanding. Situated at Braeswood and Chimney Rock in Meyerland, it is conveniently located with lots of free parking.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. We really enjoyed our first time visiting. We both had seafood; the sea bass and the seafood pasta were both very good. Staff was very attentive. We'll be back to try more from their extensive menu.
