The Hottest Restaurant Openings to Know Right Now, June 2025 | Eater Houston

"A reincarnation of a formerly kosher steakhouse that maintains kosher-certified steaks and chicken while loosening strict kosher rules to add broader menu items like cheeseburgers, gumbo, sushi, and beef short rib, aiming to blend tradition with more mainstream grill-and-bar offerings." - Brittany Britto Garley

The Biggest Houston Restaurant and Food News Stories, May 2025 | Eater Houston

"Planned relaunch of the former kosher steakhouse under owner Jason Goldstein that will not be entirely kosher but will retain kosher-certified steaks and chickens while broadening the menu to include items such as cheeseburgers, gumbo, sushi, and beef short rib." - Brittany Britto Garley

Genesis Steakhouse Will Reopen in Houston as Exodus Bar and Grill | Eater Houston

"A reimagined, non-kosher bar and grill from the same owner aiming to attract less-observant neighborhood diners while retaining some continuity with the previous menu—several steaks and chickens will remain kosher-certified, but many dishes intentionally mix meat and dairy, including a gumbo with shrimp, sausage, and chicken and a Swiss cheese–topped cheeseburger. The menu also preserves former favorites like sushi, rib-eyes, and beef short ribs and is inspired by the Hillstone/Houston's upscale neighborhood-restaurant model. It will be open daily (weekdays from 11:30 a.m., Saturdays from 4 p.m., Sundays from 1 p.m., with brunch to follow), expects a May opening after decor updates, and features renderings of a wood-and-brick dining room with white linens, leather booths, and Texas-themed wall art. The location is in Meyerland at 80 Braeswood Square." - Courtney E. Smith

We were in town for one night only and I chose Exodus Bar and Grill restaurant based on the excellent reviews and photos others had posted. We were not disappointed! We ordered the Branzino which was absolutely just as flavorful and expertly prepared as the one I had last month in Montenegro! The delicious pecan pie a la mode, which is made in house, was served perfectly warm with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce and fresh fruit. The blackberry mojito was also a fabulous cocktail to start the meal. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area and I highly recommend the locals to frequent this establishment as much as possible! They are also now serving brunch!

This was a huge surprise. It’s a small, locally-owned restaurant with a significant and diverse menu featuring everything from sushi, to burgers, to chops, to steaks. The ambience is simple (with great classic rock and pop) and the staff is simply perfect. The food was not only flavorful and served hot, but competes with well-known steak houses. I have an incredible NY Strip that was delicious from start to finish. The wine selection is simple, but offers good options. The bar is fully stocked. I mentioned the sushi - do not disregard this side of the menu. The chef has over a decade of experience as a sushi chef and the offerings are amazing, fresh and creative. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough and look forward to returning. A big shout out to our waiter Rusty - the guys is a pro!

This new restaurant was one we wanted to try, and we were not disappointed. The food was outstanding, the service friendly and serving portions were quite large. The menu was extraordinarily diverse (sushi, pastas, steaks, seafood, soups, burgers, deli sandwiches, etc., etc.) and we're not sure how the kitchen will deal with such a large number of items in the long term, but our order was well-prepared, served hot and was delicious. We had the Exodus Gumbo, Pecan Texas Fried Chicken, the Chicken Dayanis and Carrot Cake, and all were outstanding. With so many options we DIDN'T try, we'll definitely be back.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) – An Unforgettable Hidden Gem! What an experience!! From the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left, this place delivered pure magic. As soon as we stepped inside, the owner greeted us with a huge smile and said, “Reservation for Blair?” – instant VIP vibes that made us feel like regulars on our very first visit. We hadn’t even settled in before the chef himself swung by our table with a complimentary appetizer: fresh, house-made Pita Bread & Hummus that isn’t even on the menu. Warm, fluffy pita straight from the oven paired with the creamiest, garlicky hummus I’ve ever had – it was AMAZING and set the tone for everything to come. The menu is a glorious mash-up of comfort classics, smoky BBQ twists, and even sushi (!!), and every single dish blew us away: • Smoked Brisket Bolognese – Tender, slow-smoked brisket in a rich, meaty sauce draped over al dente pasta. The smoky depth took this Italian staple to another universe. • Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo – Silky, garlicky cream sauce clinging to perfectly cooked noodles with juicy grilled chicken. Pure comfort food heaven. • Leslie’s Monterrey Chicken – Whoever Leslie is, she’s a genius. Grilled chicken smothered in melted cheese, crisp bacon, and just the right kick of peppers. Juicy, flavorful, and downright addictive. • Chicken Fried Steak – Golden, crispy crust giving way to fork-tender steak swimming in creamy pepper gravy. Southern perfection on a plate. • Red Dragon Sushi Roll (shared with my son) – Phenomenal! Spicy tuna, crisp tempura bits, and that perfect drizzle of eel sauce and sriracha mayo. Fresh, balanced, and a total surprise standout on a non-sushi-focused menu. Everything was made fresh in-house, you could taste the love and attention in every bite. The owner and chef checking in personally made the night feel special, not just another dinner out. If you’re anywhere near this spot, RUN don’t walk. This is the kind of family-run gem that reminds you why dining out can still be an absolute joy. We’re already planning our next visit – thank you for an incredible evening! 🍽️✨ (Pro tip: Make a reservation – this place deserves to be packed every night!)

Google
A Much-Needed Gem in Meyerland – Exodus Bar & Grill Houston, especially the Meyerland area, just got a serious upgrade with the opening of Exodus Bar & Grill. This place is exactly what the neighborhood—and honestly, the city—needed. From the moment you pull in, the experience is smooth. Ample parking makes a big difference in Houston, and Exodus delivers on convenience. Step inside and you're welcomed into a stylish, modern space that still feels warm and inviting. The attention to detail in the design is impressive, making it perfect for everything from casual dinners to date nights or celebrations. Now to the real star: the menu. It’s packed with flavor and creativity. Whether you're in the mood for something hearty or lighter fare, there's something for everyone—and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The drinks menu is just as well-thought-out, with craft cocktails that rival any high-end bar in the city. And the service? Five stars without question. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. You can tell the team here cares about creating a top-tier experience. Exodus Bar & Grill isn’t just another restaurant—it’s a destination. Meyerland residents are lucky to have it so close, and it's well worth the drive from other parts of Houston. Highly recommend checking it out before the word really gets out.

Vegetarians and vegans all welcome! The charred cauliflower is to die for. Extensive sushi menu. And the spinach artichoke dip with the wonderful crispy bread was amazing. The fried Branzino is an entire fish (for those who eat fish)! Super friendly welcoming establishment. So haimish! Great for kids, not too loud that you can't hear yourself think. The bar was stocked with tons of choices. The owner is an absolute doll. Prices very reasonable!

I heard about this new restaurant on Nextdoor and decided to try it at an odd time (about 3:30 pm). There were two other tables occupied besides mine. The place is nicely appointed with loads of Westwrn style art and a plan. Cement floor. A nice selection of booths and tables of which some are with white tablecloths. There was one busboy and one water. The busboy greeted me fairly promptly and got me water. The waiter took longer tha. I thought he should given there were only three tables and he wasn’t attending g to the other two when I arrived. Also, my water glass was empty and he did not seem to notice for most of the meal. I didn’t say anything g as I wanted to see if he’d ever notice. He did but it was almost at the end of the meal. Now the good stuff. My hamburger was probably the best I’ve had anywhere in Houston. It was the mushroom and cheese option and it was SUPERB. I am guessing g that it arrived open faced in a brioche bun. I don’t usually care for hamburger buns as they are too doughy. Not here. Great bun. And the thick hamburger made with angus beef is not at all greasy nor dry. Honestly….a perfect burger in my opinion. I opted for o ion rings instead of fries. The three onion rings were the breadcrumbs style which is not what I usually prefer (I like the thick flaky crust kind) but I have to say they were really good. They were not salty and I think I sensed a hint of paprika. I’d absolutely get this again. Most restaurants do not have anything that I crave for afterwards. Albeit the menu at Exodus is quite extensive and had many things I will try later, I have been craving that burger everyday. I love Greek salads and got one to go. It was also a great option. One thing I noticed is that the olives were not overwhelmingly salty as found elsewhere. I added 6 nice sized grilled shrimp and they were cooked perfectly and made the Greek salad even better. Although exodus has an extensive sushi menu (I think about half the menu) and I love sushi, I am somewhat hesitant to eat this at a restaurant that may not (yet) be busy. Just fearful of sushi that may not be up to my standard of freshness. A high volume restaurant offsets this reluctance. Maybe in the future. UPDATE- have been back many times and ALL the food has been wonderful and the waitstaff is excellent.

Yelp
Had heard great things about Exodus so had to check it out! We went for a casual family Friday dinner. The ambiance is chill, comfortable, great energy as well visually appealing. Our waiter James made our experience even more enjoyable with his fun playful spirit and excitement in the menu! He gave us great recommendations on the extensive and eclictic menu. So we started with carne asada fries, chargrilled cauliflower along with the California roll and spider roll. Every dish was delicious but the chargrilled cauliflower can we talk about this! Perfectly chargrilled cauliflower on a bed of creamy hummus drizzled with cranberries and chimichurri sauce ! Highly recommend!! So full of flavors!! For main dishes we had the smoked brisket bolognese, sashimi, the Branzino special, yellow tail sashimi, the maya sandwich and last but not least the pistachio crusted sea bass. All of the entrees were outstanding and full of flavors! The portions were ample. The presentations of the dishes added to our experience. We did share a piece of the pecan pie was so good they should push them at thanksgiving! All and all this new neighborhood bar and grill is a do not miss! I understand they also have a nice happy hour!! I personally cannot wait to go back and try new dishes along with the cauliflower

Yelp
Salmon was delicious. Cooked well - to perfection. Had the spinach as a side in lieu of the bok choy. My friend had the chicken fried steak and was very pleased with it. Service was excellent. James was super attentive. I loved the ambiance. They did a really good job in creating a very intimate atmosphere but still very welcoming for everyone. Parking is an extra plus because it is located in a strip mall. We had an early dinner so it was not crowded which was perfect.

Yelp
Returned to have sushi-only dinner after my first experience with this hidden gem. We had the Big Bruce, Oved and Spicy Tuna Croquettes. I canst say enough about how outstanding the food was. The Sushi chef is exceptionally skilled and the quality of the rolls is top notch. A place like this is a sleeper - small neighborhood joint with a huge menu and a simply outstanding chef and staff. Highly recommended.

Yelp
My teen kids and I came in for dinner tonight really hoping it was going to be worth it and it was!!! The food was delicious. I had sushi and sashimi. I was pleasantly surprised at the large section of sushi and rolls. My son had the chicken Alfredo which is his favorite dish. He loved it! My daughter had the Cesar salad with chicken. We are really excited to have such a great place in our neighborhood.

Yelp
The food and service were both amazing! The cauliflower was excellent. The truffle hamachi was amazing. Our server James was hilarious and made excellent recommendations. Will definitely go again!

Yelp
Didn't even get to the food, walked out after being in there for 10 minutes because it reeked like a public bathroom. Update to business response: I did in fact dine with you and the smell was not only accurate but a shared opinion amongst my group, as far as the ambience goes, there were multiple industrial fans setup on the floor making the "ambience" seem like it was still under construction. I apologize if you believe this to be misleading but it couldn't be further from fact. For the reviews this place gets I was expecting much more but was let down significantly.

Ari D.

Yelp
Horrible service. Manager almost put his hands on me because I tried to use the bathroom and he stopped to ask me if I was a "paying customer". Walked out and left. Will never support a restaurant who judges their patrons based off how they look.

Yelp
We had an great meal at Exodus Bar and Grill! This was our first visit and we will head back soon. The atmosphere was very comfortable and casual. It is rare to read a menu and find too many great sounding dishes. They have a large sushi menu. We started with one of the best spinach and artichoke dips. My burger was the best in town. Are you sitting down? It was Angus beef, topped with beef bacon, fried egg, and cheddar cheese on a pretzel bun! I chose onion rings as my side. I am pretty sure they were homemade. My wife's pecan crusted chicken breast was outstanding. Situated at Braeswood and Chimney Rock in Meyerland, it is conveniently located with lots of free parking.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. We really enjoyed our first time visiting. We both had seafood; the sea bass and the seafood pasta were both very good. Staff was very attentive. We'll be back to try more from their extensive menu.
