This modest Afghan counter spot turns out plump mantu, bolani, and fragrant Kabuli pulao with tender lamb shank. D Magazine’s halal guide highlights it among the area’s best for quietly excellent, zabiha-friendly Afghan cooking.

Google
Very nice and cool place to enjoy, Providing the best delicious meal /5 Stars: A Taste of Afghanistan in Every Bite! 🍴* I recently visited express kabob and was blown away by the authentic Afghan cuisine! The moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and the aroma of exotic spices. If you're looking for a unique dining experience with authentic Afghan flavors, look no further! Express kabob is a must-visit. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Highly recommended

Google
My father recommended this place to me and still hasn't got off the hook for his last two recommendations in Houston. He's working on redeeming himself and he recommended this place as tribute, but I was skeptical of his choice based on his baseless taste in prior experiences. When I went in the staff greeted my father and my family. They were very nice and kind. The restaurant was very clean and organized. Our food arrived in good time and was of high quality and succulent taste. The portions were generous. I was so impressed my dad has redeemed himself back to #1 dad. Thanks for a great experience and I highly recommend this place.

Google
This place was the bomb.com. I was craving Afghani food and came upon this place on google. We got a Chapli kebab to share, a kabuli pulao platter for myself, and a koobideh platter for the girlfriend. Man, it was so amazing. I loved the kabuli pulao and the sweetness that the raisins provide with every bite. Reminds me of my youth eating Afghani food in Canada. The chapli kebab was amazing, spiced and crispy; served right over a naan. All naan, you could tell was made fresh in a tandoor (which the owner confirmed). Girlfriend loved her plate too. The portion sizes were HUGE and the service was attentive. Owner was very hospitable , warm, friendly, and gave us a warm welcome in. He had recommendations for Mandu and bolani (which they are known for) so we ordered a bolani as an appetizer. It’s like a paratha stuffed with potato and leek served with a yogurt sauce and a chutney. Very delicious, can’t go wrong with it. We will be back!

Google
We love coming here! The food is to die for and the service is top tier! We got the chicken spicy kabob with kabuli rice, Mantu, and Bolani, and everything tastes better than the last! Best Afghan food in DFW! Highly recommend!

Google
Delicious food under $20 for 2 people! I was pleasantly surprised by how juicy, flavorful, and tender the spicy chicken kabob was. The naan is freshly prepared & made to order, and the white sauce on the rice w raisins makes the plate a perfect balance of tangy, sweet, and savory flavors. Def recommend this place!

Google
Great food. Owner is a great guy. The fresh naan 🫓 that they make is just amazing. I’ve had Afghan food in GTA area. And this is prolly the best Afghan food I’ve had anywhere outside.

Google
Great spot! Food was excellent and service was extremely friendly. Must try their Bolani appetizer which has potatoes and leek. Savory and delicious. I had the Koobideh Kabob which was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend getting it with their pulao rice which has raisin that added a great balance of sweetness to the savory dish. 10/10 will be coming back!

Google
The ambience, food, and service were all amazing. We had Kabuli Pulao with Lamb Shank, Chapli Kabob with rice, and Lamb Kabob with rice. The quantity is quite a bit for the price. Amazing food. Also halal. A++++++

Yelp
This place was incredible. The food was excellent, the service was spectacular! Had the Lamb Kebob! Very inviting atmosphere

Yelp
Polite and helpful service. The food was very good. I ordered the Chapli Kabob and it was spiced and pan fried just perfectly. Simple clean place to dine in. My only very minor suggestion is to not place the kabob on top of the naan. It made the nice naan soggy for me. Regardless a return trip to try other items in the near future.

Yelp
Amaaaaaazing food! I drove 30 min just to try this spot and it was awesome! Owner was super chill and helpful. Loved that it was a sit down spot and wasn't crowded at all so all them yummies were focused and made with love. The kebabs are beautifully seasoned and grilled. Kabuli rice was amazing. Too. Came here for the chapli kebabs and ended up getting the tender beef and grilled chicken too. All amazing stuff. Definitely going to be a regular here.

Roma K.

Yelp
Best Afghan food in Dfw. Everything was so good, the mantu was perfect, the qabli was amazing and the kabobs were so good. Place is clean, food is fresh and owners are the sweetest most professional people!

Yelp
Great food, friendly vibes! I stopped by Express Kebab while in Dallas on vacation and was really impressed. The chicken kebab plate was delicious, and the portions were generous. I got to meet the owner, super friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. Definitely worth a visit if you're in town!
google avatar

Yelp
The beef kabob plate is juicy, well-seasoned, and comes with fluffy rice and fresh naan. The green chutney adds the perfect spicy kick. Fast service, big portions, and friendly staff. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Smell when you walk in is wonderful. Tachmid was so attentive and our lunch was great. I was craving a roasted savory lamb shank and was not disappointed. My entire entree was delightful. Ordered: Kabuli Palao With Lamb Shank Qabuli palao rice with lamb shank & chopped tomato salad. Comes with naan and extra sauce from the glaze. Also served with both green chutney & white sauce. Also ordered a 1/4 lb Burger with seasoned fries (white sauce, seasoning and a red sauce) This was exactly what I was craving. There is a 100% chance of a return. **** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ****

Yelp
I was in the area and needed a place to grab lunch, I saw other reviews on Yelp! And decided to try this restaurant out! The aroma hits you immediately of yummy flavors and you can see the marinated meats in the front display. The ambiance is casual, with plenty of seating and they also offer to go as well. Service was a bit slow, but it was because they were preparing a catering order. Otherwise the gentleman at the front was pleasant and friendly. I got the kobideb w naan- it was delicious!!! The kebab was fresh off the grill and steaming when places on the naan. And the naan was soft and was able to capture all the juices from the kebab perfectly. The portion was large and super satisfying!!! Glad I stopped by and got try some amazing food!
google avatar

Tiam L.

Yelp
Came in today to do a take out order for Mantu and Badamjan(fried eggplant). Both items were very delicious! First, the Mantu is basically a dumpling type bun filled with meat along with tomato paste, yogurt, lentils, and spices. The serving you receive is big enough to be a meal on its own. And it's incredibly satisfying as well! The Badamjan with Naan was amazing as well! They also have Kebob, rice, and baklava. The location was clean and well kept. Definitely recommend trying this location out. You will not be disappointed!

Mohammad R.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Excellent service and very clean restaurant. I am from Los Angeles every time I come here. I stop at this restaurant

Faheem M.

Yelp
Some of the best authentic afghani food in Dallas! Kabobs were delicious! We got the mantu and bolani as well, and both were great. Service was also great, and really friendly owner! Definitely would come back!
google avatar

Yelp
If you're looking for really good and favorable afghan food, try Express Kabob. For appetizers I always get the following: 1. Mantu (must try) 2. Bolani (fried bread with potato filling) 3. Bademjan (eggplant) (must try) For the main course I get the following 1. chapli kabob with spinach and Mediterranean salad and rice 2. Koobideh kabob with Mediterranean salad and humus 3. Chapli kabob burger Their food is amazing. The service is friendly and the ambience is quiet. The restaurant is clean

Yelp
First time trying this type of food. Really enjoyed the Bolani, Matui, and Lamb Kabob combo. The food was very fresh and sauces complimented the dish. Very honest and friendly service as well. I would come here again!
google avatar

Meredith A.

Yelp
I ordered the lamb kebab combo with hummus and the mantu. Love it exceptionally tasty. The bed of rice that the kebab was in was a very nice surprise, very fragrant and flavorful. Everyone there is very friendly. And I will have to come back one evening for the buffet.

Faraz A.

Yelp
Food was excellent and service is great. The place is a must try. Came under new management and the food has improved and excellent

Muhammad S.

Yelp
Decided to come here as I was visiting for a few days from California, wow! Definitely left me amazed, true authentic Afghan food and really great customer service. Great vibes! Busy as well, a busy restaurant is always a good sign!

Rexi V.

Yelp
I give this place a 3/5. Only because the portions of the kabobs were very little, and the ribeye kabob, although super flavorful, was not tender and very chewy and was also not at all spicy as indicated. I would definitely come back here for the eggplant, the star of the show, lamb shank, and salmon kabob, which was accompanied by the softest yummiest pita bread. For dessert, i got the baklava, which was decent, but I have had better. Next time, I want to try the mantu eggplant that also look good and lamb chops. The staff was very friendly and the young nephew working there was very helpful and very mature, so adorable, which was surprising like he could run the whole place. I recommend giving this place a try. I did come during busy dinner time so there was a bit of wait and maybe that is why the kabob portions were small so next time i will go during off peak times. Also, they need to expand their menu and add more things to it like more veggie options like roasted potatos or stewed spinach, another reason for 3/5.

Yelp
How did we find this place? The car salesman who was helping us to buy a car for our newly anointed college kid, is from Afghanistan. Naturally, as food lovers, we asked him where we could find authentic Afghan food in the Metroplex. Without hesitation he said, Express Kabob. The ambiance at Express is decent. It's nothing to brag about, but it was clean. You approach the counter to order and then you find your seat. The menu is pretty much all Kabob's; beef, chicken, and lamb. We ordered all three with rice. Not being someone that really knows his Afghan food, it's hard to say how authentic the food is. But.. it was delicious. The food was a bit more subtle than Indian or Pakistani food, but it was still robust with flavor. We ordered the beef spicy. Though I wouldn't consider it spicy, my wife definitely picked up a little on the heat. All the proteins were cooked really well. The rice was really good too. The guy that brought us our food came back several times to make sure we had everything we needed. This was a pretty cool surprise because the place is not really setup as a full service restaurant. For the price, and the opportunity to eat something a little different, it's a great visit. I think we spent $50 for 3 of us and we left full.

Roshanak G.

Yelp
I definitely recommend the eggplant, bolani and dumpling! The bread is fabulous and house made!

Edd

Yelp
Very friendly atmosphere, great food that is not over priced! Staff is very good to explain every dish details and answer as many questionquestions you have . Ingredients is so fresh ,seems they are in high demand , I was dine in but from what I have seen I recommend for phone orders to allow some extra time , that place is so busy!
google avatar

Rashad H.

Yelp
Place and food is trash , owner does not know how to properly run a business . He laterally was using old meat that smelled in his kebab and was using his hand to put ice in cups . Disgusting . Never will I ever go back to this establishment.
google avatar

Fahad Z.

Yelp
Probably one of the best cuisine I've had. I've lived in Dallas for 2 years now and haven't been able to find authentic Afghan cuisine. It's a small family owned restaurant and the staff is very nice and friendly. I ordered a chapli kabob platter and it did not disappoint. My family and I will be returning customers. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
google avatar

Imrana W.

Yelp
This is by far the rudest most unprofessional restaurant I have ever come across. I am all about supporting small businesses, but this restaurant continues to send the wrong items on purpose. Not the first time the absolute 4th time they have sent me an incorrect order, while I am paying full price for something I want, upon calling them the owner told me it's my personality that I cannot handle these small things. I'm sorry I pay full price for their food and to be told I cannot handle it is unacceptable when it has happened more than once, and they continue to not care. Please avoid this restaurant at all costs.

Yelp
Saved sister in law from hunger! Lol this place is Amazing!! The lamb and chicken dish were so delicious (like who actually makes tender juicy chicken anymore!) and the servers were so friendly, just delightful. The spinach side and hummus were great!
google avatar

Saira R.

Yelp
This place has great food! Always consistent and flavorful! If you are looking for an authentic dish the eggplant appetizer and the pallao and kabobs are great!
google avatar

Bowen R.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. I wish I could give 10 stars. We went for the Ramadan feast and it was amazing. Everyone working here is so friendly and genuine. The service was above and beyond, I could not recommend this place more.

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Wow! Amazing food. We got the chicken kebab and ribeye kebab with Kabuhli rice. The rice was so good! Generous portions and great bread. We'll definitely be back!

Stephanie F.

Yelp
Lamb Chop Kabob, spicy Ribeye Beef Combo were fresh and fantastic. The meat seems to be a high quality and you could tell had been marinated to perfection. I happened to also get the hummus as a side and thought it was very good. We came on a Saturday evening and almost all the tables were full. The family that runs the restaurant were so kind and nice. Will definitely be back for the lamb chops!!

Mohamed A.

Yelp
The meat is really good , excellent even. Service could use a little work, they often forgot to provide us with forks but the waitress was nice. its a little pricey. we paid $52 for two ppl including 2 entrees, 2 drinks and a light tip. id go back

Chris K.

Yelp
Kabobs are delicious! Perfectly seasoned, not too salty like some others, loved the spinach and hummus too! Brings me back to Kabul circa 2012
google avatar

Kristi N.

Yelp
Borani bademjan is good but little extra oily. My son cleaned the bone from his lamb shank on his kabuli pulau lol. He loved it. I couldn't eat the manti :( not sure if it had the cloves or seven spice, but I wasted my bite. But my son loves that shawarma flavor. He's lucky lol. The baklava was very good here. Can't tell if they make it or order it-but even if they order, it was still fresh when I got it. We also ordered bolani that was super fresh. We spent $50 something and had 2 days of items. The employees are really friendly also!

Yelp
With the name "Express Kabob", I thought the food was going to be Fast Food quality. But boy, was I wrong! Their food is amazing! The fact that I could have them at an "Express" pace is even better! I ordered the Qabili Palau, which is my most favorite Afghan dish, ever. An Afghan Realtor works for me in CA, where I own a Real Estate Brokerage firm. She is an amazing chef. She often made me this dish. But since I moved to Texas, she can no longer just drop off her delicious Qabili Palau at my doorstep. Other Afghan restaurants are quite far, deep in Dallas, and it's not always convenient for me to drive that distance. I'm so glad to have found this gem! Their food taste nothing like fast food. It is restaurant quality food! Very delicious and the portions are great! They will see me a lot more from here on.

Asiya S.

Yelp
It was our first time. Express Kebob left an indelible mark on my taste buds with their Lamb Chop Kebab. The juiciness and flavor were unparalleled, showcasing the chef's mastery. The Koobideh Combo was equally delightful, offering a harmonious blend of spices. The warm ambiance and attentive staff made the dining experience memorable. Express Kebob is a must-visit for authentic Afghani cuisine, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit! Owner was very kind and helpful in suggesting what to try, grateful for that.

Sebastian F.

Yelp
Man this place is so awesome! Right when I walked in, I could tell this would be amazing. The gentleman in the front, Omar, was extremely helpful. He gave us some amazing recommendations, he was patient and very polite. Food did not take long, and tasted perfect. The restaurant itself gave a nice feel. Felt like I was back home. I noticed the place was very clean and under control. Overall, I had an amazing experience here! Will definitely be coming back soon.

Tahmeed D.

Yelp
Food service ambiance all perfect these are the 3 things i look for when going to a restaurant and this place ticked all 3 boxes i will definitely be back
google avatar

Sumbel A.

Yelp
Nice location, had everything I wanted when it comes to Afghan dishes. The only disappointment was the Mantu- the stuffing was entirely over salted to the point that it was inedible. I did ask the lady working there to ask the chef to change the preparation and decrease the salt in the mixture for the stuffing in the future. Also had the Doodh.
google avatar

James Z.

Yelp
Awesome Afghan food in east Plano! Everything we had here was delicious but our favorites were probably the potato bolani, Kabuli palau with lamb shank, and mantu. They have outdoor seating, which is great on a warmer day. Try for yourselves, the pictures don't lie!
google avatar

Kerry O.

Yelp
The food is a 5 but the noise of the children running, screaming, almost running into you that drove us to eat outside. Lamb and chicken kabobs are excellent but the dish was better than any rice I have had before.
google avatar

Anthony B.

Yelp
Maybe I'm the unlucky one. Ordered some food for myself- a koobideh combo. Cashier asks me if I'll be waiting inside or outside- I say outside in order to socially distance and she acknowledges. I wait. I see food come out for the two families that ordered before me. I wait some more. I debate if I become "that guy" who bugs the staff about my food. I see families finish their food and leave. After 30 minutes, I walk in and ask about my food. "oh its right here." Me: "How long has it been sitting there?" Them: "It's fresh." Me: "So it took 30 minutes to make one meal?" Silence. So, they either forgot about me or the food takes forever to prepare- take your pick. It wasn't busy either- it was two families and myself. I can't imagine it during a dinner rush if they can't keep track during the slow periods. The food was cold by the time I got home to eat it. The koobideh wasn't anything to write home about, seemed about average. The highlight of the meal was the side of fries I got- they have some good seasoning on them and I bet if they weren't cold, they would have been quite fantastic. I'll continue my search to find a place that has good kabobs and some customer service.
google avatar

Kainath B.

Yelp
You may call a Mediterranean diet but I'm on a kabob diet these days thanks to Express Kabob. Came across this place while searching for some good Afghani restaurants in the area. Well I've found my new favorite kabob place and will be telling everyone about it. So far I've tried their chicken kabob combo platter, the kabobs are seasoned and cooked to perfection. You can pick two sides so I usually pick between the hummus, fries and mixed veggies. The combo platter also comes with bread and rice (kabuli or plain) so the portions are generous. They have a nice dining area inside with some patio seating. I've placed my order over the phone a few times and they always get it right. Customer service has also been excellent. I'm pleasantly surprised to see how busy they are today. All their loyal patrons are picking up for iftar (breaking fast) as am I. Please do pay a visit to this gem of a restaurant located centrally off of 75. Kabob diet it is!
google avatar

Parsa M.

Yelp
I threw everything up right as soon we left. Small portions no taste and terrible quality. The reviews got us to go here. The Naan was cold out of the fridge.
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
First of all I would love to say that this is the place to go if your looking for a good Kabob.! I've never had a disappointing kabob from a Afghan restaurant. This Kabob was my favorite one I've had since being in the states.

Adria C.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious I love the food here , always fresh. The flavors are wonderful and always great presentation.

Yelp
Visiting Plano from GA. Express Kabob has Great Food. Great Service. Highly Recommend.

Yelp
Great authentic food and amazing service! Super friendly staff - good ambiance and great selection!

Yelp
WE FINALLY HAVE AN AUTHENTIC AFGHANI RESTAURANT IN PLANO!!! YESSS!! I came here for their grand opening today after seeing all the amazing reviews on facebook and was def not disappointed! Also, their GREEN CHUTNEY IS AMAZINGG (sorry for all the caps, but this is the first time I've had legit green chutney at any place besides my mom's)!! Here's what I ordered: Kabuli Palo with lamb shank- the rice was seasoned and cooked to perfection!! yumm!! The lamb was super tender and juicy!! I do wish it had a little more kick to it, so that I wouldn't have to rely on the chutney as much, but overall, it was delicious! Bolani (potato leek)- The potato filling was good, but a little on the mild side, so you have to eat it with the chutney. The bread is good since it's not super greasy and was flavorful by itself. Chapli Kabob- YUMM!! This was my favorite dish since it was on the spicy side super juicy kabobs! These come in a plate of 2, and they're huge!! Def more than enough for 2 people! They have fast service (we place order for takeout and they had it ready within 20 minutes), authentic food made with fresh ingredients, and all for a reasonable price! I'll def be back soon!

Yelp
Although this wasn't my first choice when I went out for the night, I can wholeheartedly say that I do not regret the decision to visit and sample a vast amount of their menu, despite other reviews complaining of time and quality issues. To be prompt, their service is wonderful. The owner is up front at the counter, ready to welcome new customers and happy to inform patrons of anything and everything involving their fresh ingredients and goals as a restaurant. Attentive and friendly, it's exactly the kind of interaction you want from a small business. The food itself is great, made fresh, Front and Center and with a variety of options. The main item being skewers, they prepare and marinate them before hand, where you can then choose from their deli style cabinets which one you want to have! The chicken was juicy, the ribeye was flavorful, the Chapli Kabob was tender and the lamb was simply just right, cooked from grass fed lamb (per the owner). A wonderful selection with home made sides to match! Overall, I'd definitely recommend trying this small shop on the corner, it's right off the expressway and it defies both criticisms and expectations placed upon it!
google avatar

Faz K.

Yelp
I've been here a few more times since the first time. I deviated from the chapli kabob and tried the rib eye. It was pretty good but not as good as the chapli kabob. Also the service, man they are slow and forget to bring you things. Let me put it this way. If I order a side of Fries and it's not here ~30 minutes later, and I remind you and then 10 minutes later find out it's not even in the fryer yet .... grrr. That said I am going to be a regular because of the food but need to drop this place down to 4 stars :(
google avatar

Maria L.

Yelp
Salmon kabob is juicy and delicious. Rice has carrots and raisins. Service is super sweet, patient and nice.
