EYV

I’ve been to EYV a couple of times now and always with omnivores, so you don’t have to be a lifelong vegetarian like me to appreciate this beautiful, creative, thoughtful and seriously hearty, vegetable-forward food. Their awards bear that out, including being named one of the 26 Best Restaurants by Pittsburgh Magazine this year. On this occasion I was treated to the Chef’s Counter tasting experience ($150). It was awesome and I would recommend it to anyone who loves food as a special occasion experience, or just a special treat. A recap of what we ate: 🥦 Welcome Snacks: Broccoli “chicharrons,” hummus fritters, crispy new potatoes with seaweed caviar 🥗 Farmer’s Salad with ranch mousse, tater tot and pistachio 🫑 Charred Shishito Panzanella 🌽 Charred Corn Pierogi 🌱 Summer Squash Roulade 🍅 Tomato Parmesan 🥬 Cabbage Pastrami 🍫 Chocolate PB Mouse: Banana bread, pickled grapes, banana “bacon” 🍋 Tomato-Lemon Curd: basil ice cream, candied focaccia, strawberry Many things on the menu are already GF, but those that aren’t can be made that way. You can add on a wine pairing to the tasting menu for $60. We also tried all five of the mocktails from their mocktail menu, which I really appreciated! My runaway favorite was So Juicy with rosemary, lime, pineapple and grapefruit. Second favorite was The One With The Blueberries In It (no really, that’s the name). My guest and I both really love beets but found the beet mocktail to be a bit too intensely like straight beet juice, so might recommend passing on that one unless that’s what you’re looking for. Everything was so delicious and beautifully presented. You will not go home hungry from this tasting experience, and I’m so thankful that a restaurant like this exists in Pittsburgh to show what a talented chef can do with plant-based ingredients.

Visiting Pittsburgh from Denver, my friends took me to EYV, knowing I’m a strict vegetarian—and wow, did this place deliver. We started with the snack sampler, which was a greatest-hits tour of creativity: hummus fritters (was my favorite) that were crisp on the outside and impossibly tender inside, chicurron broccoli with deep smoky notes, and a beer cheese dip that had real backbone, not just melted cheese, but flavor with intention. The Farmer’s Salad was anything but an afterthought delicous nutty seasoning, balanced, and thoughtfully composed, the kind of salad that makes you pause between bites and wonder how. The entrées were where EYV really flexed. The cabbage dishes were standouts, one deeply savory, another layered and surprising, including a cabbage “pastrami” that somehow managed to be both comforting and inventive. The lion’s mane mushroom cake was rich, satisfying, and perfectly textured, proof that vegetarian dishes here aren’t substitutes, they’re the main event. And the sweet potato half? OMG deliciouso! Layers upon layers of deliciousness—sweet, savory, and smartly seasoned. Every plate felt intentional, creative, and genuinely delicious. Service and pacing were great, and the overall experience felt welcoming and special. One small, purely observational note: the front area was a bit visually messy—brooms out, some dirty dishes visible, and staff clothing a little rumpled. It didn’t detract from the meal at all, but it’s the kind of thing that could easily be tucked away to match the level of care happening on the plates. Bottom line: EYV is a gift for vegetarians (and anyone who loves thoughtful, vegetable-forward food). Creative, satisfying, and memorable. I’d go back in a heartbeat—and I’ll be sending other Denver vegetarians your way. Include in pics is owner and creator Chef Michael. Good meal! But far from a dining destination. Pittsburgh has a rich collection of venues and cuisines that make up its diverse food scene. EYV’s concept of an upscale, prefixed menu focusing on plants is welcomed among the likes of Apteka. Overall, EYV is doing a good job but has a ways to go before being ensconced as a “dining destination” in the City of Bridges. What this restaurant is doing well: their food! The kitchen, which is the engine of the restaurant, is what is right about this place. I wouldn’t say each dish my partner and I tried were flawless, but the flavors and concepts were great and there’s so much potential. Of note, the cabbage pastrami was really good. Tons of flavor from such a little wedge of cabbage! I don’t recommend the cocktails. Neither my partner nor I liked them. What this place needs to work on: their front of house guest experience. The experience was mixed to say the least. Our server was great - very personable, attentive, and knowledgeable. However, another server dropped silverware down the stairs, we heard cups or dishes get dropped upstairs in the bar area, and a completely different server kept trying to come by our table to talk which was odd as we were trying to enjoy a meal. The overall feel was clunky. It would be nice to see the restaurant share who their vendors are on their site and menus. They are putting out an intention of being “a community” but they don’t showcase any local vendors or farms. The stark contrast in experience between the food and guest experience makes me feel this restaurant isn’t sure if they are trying to be more of a fine dining experience or something more casual. The menus are prefixed, deposits take for reservations, and an intentionality in the dishes which tell a story to guests of being upscale. If this is true, then the guest experience in the dining room needs to match…and it doesn’t. If you’re in town and wanting a good vegetarian or vegan meal, I’d absolutely give this place a try!

As a very vocal meat eater (and equally vocal veggie hater) I wasn’t sure what to expect when coming here to celebrate my pescatarian partners birthday. Man we’re we insanely impressed. The food was so good, we were already discussing coming back before we even finished the first course. The chef really transformed simple vegetables into something elevated and rich. I honestly forgot there was no meat or fish in our meal - and that’s a big deal for a meat snob like me! 😂 We’re already planning to come back. Our only regret was not reserving for the larger tasting menu (we did the three courses).

Really tasty and unique experience. You won't miss the meat at all to be honest. The apps were great, the broccoli chips were my personal favorite. The dessert was one of the most unique things I have ever tasted.

You must try EYV!!! It is absolutely one my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. My husband and I are quite picky eaters, but EYV never disappoints. Their food is creative, innovative, and has a “wow factor” that strikes from the very first bite to finish. Every dish has multiple layers of flavor and texture…you can tell there’s a lot of love and effort put into the dish. Their desserts and cocktails are incredible too. I took my Japanese parents, and they absolutely loved it. It is a vegetable-forwarded restaurant, but we always leave here full and satisfied (we are not vegetarian nor vegan). We love Rod, the server, he is always friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this place!!

A new favorite! The food was delicious, they're super gluten-free and vegan friendly, and they use local farm ingredients. It's rare with all my food restrictions to have so many options. There's also a fusion style to their menu that's delightful, with sophisticated compositions and plating. Staff were super conscientious and friendly. It's one of the best meals I've had in a while, but I had never heard of it! Discovered while walking down East Ohio Street. This meal just made my week. Such a great place.

We chose EYV for our wedding dinner, after getting married at the courthouse! Michael was extremely easy to communicate with during the entire process, and accommodated multiple food preferences. The atmosphere, service, food and drinks were beyond what we had hoped. Michael and the staff's attention to detail was evident from the moment we walked in to the last bite of our delicious dessert! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Pittsburgh area and for anyone wanting to host an intimate gathering with family and friends. This will be a meal we talk about for years to come! Let me tell you about this place....... My first time here was last year on my birthday. It was the most unique restaurant I have ever been too. Absolutely amazing flavor infusions and truly unique creations. Last year we had Rod as our server, and met Mike the chef. They were great!! Fast forward to tonight. Fabulous creations and amazing service once again! (Thank you Kristen and Daniel!). The Lions Mane Marsala was one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life!!! (If anyone has Lions Mane recipes, please share!) But the best part was that Rod and chef remembered me!!! (Good or bad, i don't know ‍‍) In a big city with so many options, this place is a gem!!!! In ALL ways. If you are in the area, go!!!!! I would give this place and its people 20 stars if i could!! Thank you for being the best of the best!! Ps. They also all signed a birthday card for me.

We went yesterday night for dinner and opted for one of their pre-fixe menu options - you can do four courses for $55 or five courses for $70 (or just buying the dishes a la carte is an option, too) and we went with the first option and got a couple of cocktails with it. I got the seasonal Torte-Tini and it tastes like a burnt almond torte except less sweet and more boozy and I LOVED it. I'm normally a pretty voracious meat eater but really liked all the courses I got! Everything was flavorful and had great texture and our server was lovely as well so no complaints here. The inside consists of a small downstairs and a small upstairs with a bar so definitely not good for a group bigger than four - be sure to make reservations! It is a little pricey for the portion sizes and lack of meat but still worth it for an occasional nice night out.

Their non-alcoholic drinks were delightful, offering a refreshing start to the meal. I opted for the five-course experience, and the taste and presentation reflected an ambitious and creative approach by the kitchen. While the flavors and aesthetics impressed, the service felt a bit slower than expected, turning the experience into a leisurely two-hour affair.

Food was stylish and tasty. Ambiance was laid back modern but not overly fancy. The service was attentive and efficient. Expect to spend $60 per person including drinks. We had the snack sampler, beets, turnips and pastrami. All delicious and a clever take on the vegetables involved. As with many vegetarian restaurants, there is a play to make the veggies seem meat-like. I'd love for chefs with skills to move past that and showcase the vegetables / legumes in their own right. Cocktails were really good and clever. Parking was easy enough and the neighborhood is nice to walk about it you're early.

Five stars for our first visit to EYV. We chose the snack sampler, Rutabaga "lasagna" and Fungal Farms Mushroom Congee. All were excellent, but my favorite was the snack sampler with a glass of white wine. We finished with a red beet churro (shared). Nice atmosphere - casual but upscale at the same time.

Absolutely love this place! It's so beautiful and quaint, open kitchen/dining space on the first floor, and cozy bar on the second. We went for drinks this time around, and they were absolutely FABULOUS. I had a smoked old fashioned and the Air Parody. They did an excellent job creating their own spin on these craft cocktails. Our bartender was Daniel (I believe) and he was just awesome. The owner Michael stopped by to say hello too. Service is fantastic and so are the drinks. Can't wait to stop back for the food, which looks like works of art!

Fantastic staff with unique vegetarian food and Gluten Free options. The restaurant was very calm and quiet with great view of Chief's cooking.

Visited EYV for restaurant week and was blown away by the great service and even better food! EYV (Eat Your Vegetables) is such a fun concept for both vegetarians and non-veggie folk alike, and the menu is so fun and creative and unlike any other restaurant in Pittsburgh. The staff are so kind and friendly, and the space itself is elegant without being stuffy or overdone. The 3 course meal was perfectly portioned, and beautifully presented, not to mention absolutely delicious. I tried the Yukon gold pierogi, the cabbage pastrami, and the cheese and apple dessert. All were PACKED with flavor and interesting textures and preparation styles, and the plating was all lovely and showed an attention to detail. I wholeheartedly recommend for a date night or a dinner with a few friends!

I came in for the highly raved about espresso martini and restaurant week tasting menu and left feeling like I got a well rounded, sophisticated dining experience. The martini lived up to its reputation, the tequila was smooth but boozy! Almost everything served is gluten free and veggie forward, with a unique and frequently updated selection of dishes. The standouts for me were the arancini and napoleon. The service was flawless, our waiter Rodrick was very attentive and friendly. I love the addition of EYV to the neighborhood and look forward to what's in store next time!

I'll start by saying that neither me nor my significant other are vegetarian or vegan. I love the concept of the restaurant, and that they can really cater to people with these restrictions and I definitely can see the appeal. The dishes just fell flat for us, nothing quite stood out or was amazing and it wasn't a cheap meal to be just Ok. The service was really good and we got to sit with a view of the kitchen and food prep, which was great.

Exceptional comfort food, welcoming staff, and a nice ambiance. The food is excellent and beautifully presented. The chef shows a lot of creativity. Frankly, I was embarrassed that Pittsburgh restaurants used to offer a single vegetarian option, usually a veggie burger or a mushroom dish. EYV, I applaud you!

EYV's menu was a delightful surprise, offering a unique and refreshing twist on dining in Pittsburgh. Each dish we tried had a touch of quirkiness while maintaining a sense of familiarity. The Heirloom Tomato Terrine, in particular, was a standout for us - it was incredibly fresh and savory, reminding us of the delightful flavors of a caprese salad. We were impressed with how liberating the menu was, as most of the menu items highlight fresh ingredients, and the portion sizes, especially considering the restaurant's price range, were generous. You definitely won't leave hungry or feel like you're missing out on meat, so make sure to arrive with both a hearty appetite and a sense of culinary curiosity! Looking forward to our return as the colder months approach, to see what new and exciting dishes will grace the menu!

Eat Your Vegetables-don't be afraid! Great dining experience full of flavor and challenges your perception of a vegetable forward dining experience. Great service and valuable recommendations/descriptions provided by our waiter. Worth going outside your culinary comfort zone if your not used to eating all vegetables and if your vegan/vegetarian this is your home. Desserts were a perfect ending to a great meal. Nice to try something new and exceeded expectations-looking forward to returning.

Always a fun, interesting experience at EYV! I've been a few times since they opened up, this time going with some of my best friends. We got a few appetizers (hummus fritters and broccoli chicharrones) and then each got individual meals. This is a great place for sharing with friends and trying multiple dishes. What I love about EYV is that nothing is typical - you can try something new and know it's going to have an awesome flavor profile. I had the Roasted Zucchini. And while I wish there was more of the delicious lamb sausage, the flavors of the rice and zucchini with romesco sauce couldn't be beat. Our server was so great, always refilling our waters and not shy to joke around with us. I also love that you can view into the kitchen and give Chef Mike a quick wave hello as he and his sous chef are sautéing. Thank you for an excellent meal!

We did the chef's counter tasting menu for my birthday and it was fantastic. The staff was attentive, but not intrusive. They all signed a card for my birthday which was a really thoughtful touch. The food was innovative and delicious. We cleared our plates for every course. They were also great at making accommodations for food allergies / sensitivities. Highly recommend!

When Pittsburgh celebrates Restaurant Week, we like to pick a restaurant that is new to us and whose menu sounds interesting with new dishes to try. This August we chose EYV where we had a wonderful dinner. I started out with the Beets Me non-alcoholic beverage that was refreshing and looked so pretty in the glass. The first course was the Golden Yukon pierogies that had dough with a lovely texture, soft potato filling, garnished with onion sour cream and melted leeks that were a perfect complement to the pierogi, giving the dish the sharpness it needed. Next was the Charred Lion's Mane Mushroom with beet bordelaise, creamed summer greens, horseradish, and dill that was very flavorful. For the third course, I chose Ratatouille which is a favorite dish of mine. The EYV version was amazing--I've never seen ratatouille plated so beautifully and taste so delicious with piperade, roasted tomato, and basil. My dessert was the Zucchini Polenta Cake. Dessert is where many restaurants fall down with dishes that are too complicated and too sweet, but not EYV! The cake had a lovely crumb, the limoncello ice cream gave it a bit of punch, while the golden raisin yogurt with walnut crumb added a delicious crunch. We will definitely return and hope we can sit downstairs next time to watch the kitchen in action.

Fantastic. We were visiting PB for a few days and looking for a unique, veggie forward type of restaurant for dinner. We paid up front for the chef counter four course meal. What a great experience and the food was fantastic. My wife follows a vegan diet and ill eat anything. What a delicious meal. The staff are so friendly and we had a lovely chat with chef/owner while he was preparing, etc. I highly recommend this place.

As a family of mostly vegetarians and one vegan, we were thrilled to see a place like EYV pop up in Pittsburgh. And the restaurant did not disappoint. The food was delicious, and really showcased what is possible when you stick to great ingredients in creative presentations. The best thing we ate was the cabbage pastrami. I did not know it was possible to make a humble vegetable like cabbage taste like meat. I would eat this dish every day if I could. Other dishes we loved were the carrot spätzle and the buckwheat-spinach polenta. We were not too fond of the hummus fritters; the texture was a bit mushy and the flavors were not complex enough. They weren't terrible, but they didn't match the refinement and originality of the rest of the meal. We should also mention our server, who was hilarious and fun. Not your usual high-end front-of-house experience, but still a very enjoyable time. We will definitely be going back here as the menu changes with the seasons.

Maybe a 3.5. I made a reservation and went with some friends. To make a reservation, you have to pay $10 per person (which gets reimbursed when you show up) and a processing fee (which doesn't). The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable. We had a nice view of the open kitchen. I like the concept (mostly - see note below). The food overall was very good. The corn okonomiyaki was outstanding and I'd return for that alone. The broccoli chicharrones were ok - sort of bland. The heirloom tomato terrine was good, but very small. The pierogis and the cabbage pastrami were delicious. The panna cotta part of the sweet corn panna cotta was barely there and the ice cream had a weird texture. I'd skip that. Service was mixed. On one hand, he was friendly and attentive, doing a good job of describing the dishes. On the other, there were definitely some oddities. The first round of drinks took longer than average - no biggie. He spent a LOT of time refilling water, mostly because he never filled a glass more than halfway. We all noticed and thought it was strange. The biggest oddity, though, was this totally nonsensical up charge for ordering prefix and sharing (even though we weren't really even "sharing" in the way that you normally see with a split plate charge). He honestly couldn't even explain it himself and it shouldn't have been a thing anyway based on how much we ordered. Here's how that goes. The prefix includes one starter and one main for $45. The two dishes I selected would have separately been $47. But since me and a companion were each ordering a bunch of dishes and just smorgasbording it all, there was a $5 up charge on the prefix order, making it $50. But I could order the exact same food separately and pay $47. Huh? Nothing additional was provided for sharing, they were not splitting the plates in the kitchen, and both of us ordered full meals. I just don't get it. It just seemed like some crazy nickel and diming on top of a menu that was already sort of pricey for mostly veggies, and it left a bad impression with all of us. Conceptually, I can appreciate the veggie forward menu and my friends with dietary restrictions love all the options. Practically though, if you need to consume a certain amount of protein per meal, there was precious little of that here.

The service was great, but we felt like the food was hit or miss, which isn't great for a restaurant that's structured around small plates. The menu is seasonal and a lot of people seem to really enjoy it, so may still be worth your time to see if you like it.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The creativity, flavor combinations, presentation... everything was fantastic. My only critique is the portion sizes, especially the meat in potatoes was really on the small side to be called a "large plate" for $30, but it was delicious. Between the two of us, we had the hummus fritters, farmers salad, meat in potatoes, and cabbage pastrami and that was just enough to fill us. Some people might still have been hungry. The ranch mousse in the farmers salad was seriously spectacular. SO much creativity in these dishes!! Loved to see a lengthy mocktail list, too. We are so happy to see an upscale veg forward restaurant in Pittsburgh especially after so many vegan spots have shut down this year. We will absolutely be back again, THANK YOU!

Great addition to Pittsburgh's dining scene. With a service and veg forward approach, EYV is a unique dining experience. On one hand, the personalized service makes this the ultimate special occasion dining experience. On the other, the farm to table emphasis and seasonal menu items make you want to come back every week. Highly recommend!

You eat with your eyes-I have rarely seen such attention to detail in plate presentation! These plates are stunning! This is my favorite and takes me back to my Babcia's kitchen! OMG. Amazing, mostly-vegetables dinner. I'm still dreaming of the beet schnitzel, and the mocktails were the best I have had in Pittsburgh. Ordered the prix fixe for our anniversary and talked to the chef. We will be back.

LOVE this place! We came here on a whim after looking at the menu of another restaurant on the street and deciding that no where should have 10 pages of menu items. They were just opening and had some really creative dishes. They also seem like they can accommodate a bunch of dietary restrictions, so that was really nice. Our waiter was hilarious and told us all about his old rap career. I will definitely be going back.

Great vegetarian vegan food. Wait staff was very friendly, attentive and informative. Mock cocktail was excellent. Really tasty food. Hidden gem! Spread the word. Reminded us of Candle 79 in NYC, which closed. Will be coming back frequently.

EYV is a new gem to the neighborhood and region. So much love and attention put into the whole experience. Great vibe and outrageously creative food and mocktail menu. Loved everything we ordered. Our server, Roderick, is just an all-around awesome human.

The food was extraordinarily fresh and delicious. The service was second to none. I will definitely go back. It's worth every single penny. What an incredible experience! I highly recommend this restaurant for vegans, or a flexitarian lifestyle ppl like me.

Had a lovely dinner at Eyv, chef was incredibly accommodating to our dietary restrictions and actually came out to review the menu. Extra special service! Menu is very interesting and we enjoyed everything.

I read about EYV in a review in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and met a friend there for dinner after work. The space is warm and inviting with an open kitchen. Really nice staff. No liquor license yet but a good selection of sodas, mocktails, coffee and teas. There are 2 appetizers, 3 small plates, 3 large plates, and 2 desserts on the menu. We shared the 2 appetizers and each chose one of the vegetarian large plates. The food was delicious and filling which sadly left us absolutely no room for dessert. i am confident that would have been amazing. Note: as per our server, everything on the menu can be adapted vegan except for one of the appetizers with beer cheese. I thought the prices were fair (not ridiculous) and would like to come again with my husband. I hope they succeed!!! Thanks, EYV, for a very nice evening!!!

Great service ! Price is through the roof. 400 dollars for 7 people. Yikes- not really a gourmet restaurant.

Fantastic vegetarian restaurant on the North Side. Creative and delicious recipes from "cabbage pastrami" (I tasted my husbands and it was delicious) to beet schnitzel(with a wonderful sauce and delicately prepared fingerling potatoes). The carrot cake with almond cream cheese icing and a delicious chutney on the side was the best I've ever had. Service was great and the renovated industrial vibe was perfect. All so good I forgot to take pictures! But the plates were beautiful. Take your non-vegetarian friends - they won't be disappointed!

Can't say enough about your first experience at EYV! Our group of four loved everything we tried which included the Broccoli Chicharrons, Farmer's salad, Pierogi, Beet Schnitzel, and Cabbage Pastrami. The staff were attentive and wonderful at explaining all of the dishes! The atmosphere was both intimate and inviting. We will definitely return soon!
