Best Irish Bars in Philadelphia | Eater Philly

"One of the most popular bars in Center City, the mini-Irish pub chain’s Philadelphia location is ideal for a great pint during a game — or the proper place for an Irish breakfast (two eggs, Irish sausage, rashers aka bacon, black and white pudding, mushrooms, tomatoes, and sourdough toast)." - Annemarie Dooling

The 9 Best Sports Bars In Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"If you want to watch the Eagles, Sixers, or even the Philadelphia Wings, you can pretty much walk into any bar with a working TV. But if you’re a soccer fan, your choices are a lot more limited. There are a few places around the city that play the matches, and Fado is the best of them. Unlike most other soccer bars, Fado doesn’t have a certain team they always show, and they’re playing a bunch of different games at once. You can expect to eat things like chicken quesadillas, warm and soft Bavarian pretzels, sliders topped with Guinness mayo, and jumbo wings. Bring a crew of Union fans here, and since they open as early as 10am on the weekends, you can even catch the overseas action between sips of beers. " - Candis Mclean, Team Infatuation

Dinner 06/23/25 before show at Miller Theatre. Very short walk.Alex was excellent server. Very friendly and helpful with suggestions. Grilled salmon was cooked perfectly. Chicken boxty quesadilla so good I ate one portion before taking this photo. Prices very reasonable; not just Philadelphia/city reasonable.

We spent the afternoon at Fado for the Super Bowl on February 9, 2025. We were beyond extremely impressed with the service and the security staff. . Everything was so well run. Not only were the security staff members keeping us safe (especially one gentleman who is kind of a bigger guy wearing a gray number 11 eagle sweatshirt I do not remember his name), they were helping the servers and food runners get the food safely to everyone which was extremely impressive. Our server (Delaney) was absolutely amazing. She was extremely friendly and tolerant of everyone as the game went on! As you can imagine the restaurant was extremely busy and we never had to wait for anything. She along with everyone else were working so hard and successfully serving us! They were completely adequately staffed, which was awesome. Just wanted to give a huge shout out to not only the staff, but also the managers for Making this happen. Great job to everyone and we will highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was delicious as well. ! Five stars all around!!!.

Had brunch with kids on a Sunday morning. The chicken and waffles were really done well and I devoured them. Kids had mac n cheese which they liked. Lots of soccer fans having a good time, great environment for that with a lot of TVs

This pub is a nice spot to go before seeing a show in Philadelphia because it’s very close, reasonably priced for good quantities of food, and has a nice busy energy. We got the burger and quesadilla. The burger was decent but the bun was very bland. The quesadilla was a great value. We never received silverware or napkins. It was easy and quick to pay at the table.

Food was definitely delicious. The staff just seemed kinda inconvenienced? "Can I have the bill" met by a yeah I guess. Great spot for brunch

Google
One of my favourite happy hour and brunch spot in Philly! The menu has so many good options, can’t go wrong with any food or drinks! The quality and flavour is so good, and the service is always on point. Definitely one of the best restaurants/bars in Philly!

Yelp
Yummy food and cheap drinks. Big fan of the brunch!! $17 for bottomless mimosas is insane and they actually come around to refill. The food is good but nothing like crazy out of the world. I would still 100% recommend this place.

Yelp
I worked in center City and near this place for 17 years and never tried it. It's now become our regular spot before concerts at the Kimmel center or the Academy. Great pub food, cooked and seasoned well. Terrific beer and spirits collection as well. Great prices for a center City restaurant.

Yelp
Great little Irish pub. Very inviting. Friendly staff. Good music and great vibes. Excellent beer selection. Everything you'd want from an Irish pub.

Yelp
Our group of 19 held our annual holiday party at Fado and we had 5 star service from Paulette who was absolutely wonderful. The food is very good here (Irish/American bar/pub grub). Of course the alcohol was flowing which always makes for a fun party. They do NOT take reservations but graciously accommodated our huge group in the back. Try the mac 'n cheese, cheese steak egg rolls, wings and fries - all very tasty.

Yelp
Great food and servers. The cod was freak and perfectly cooked. Great window seats for watching the street.

Yelp
My first in Philly my woman and I chose Fado' for dinner with the help of Yelp. Our server Delaney was extremely friendly.

Yelp
Fado is a beautiful Irish pub that I would definitely go back to. the service was great, but it could've been a little bit better with drinks and refilling them but overall the service he was very nice and the food was amazing especially the fries with the cheese. I forgot what it was called specifically but I ordered the shepherds pie and it was a 10 out of 10.!

Yelp
Solid place for drinks and pub food. Our server was excellent. The place is casual and has a lot of screens to watch sports

Brian F.

Yelp
Good location. Just checking if you still do the Guiness black and black with currant ? I was there about a year ago on a Saturday night and none of the bartenders seemed to know what I was asking for.

Yelp
Nice Irish pub near Philadelphia theater district. I would recommend but service is spotty depending on sports events

Yelp
We came here to watch the Super Bowl and it was a great time with friends but there were some things I'd like to flag. They said that if you're here to watch the Super Bowl they won't seat you until 12pm. We arrived at 11am and people were already seated and after waiting for some time we got lucky to get the last two tables. The clause was to stay you have to constantly order which was no problem. We ordered food which was delicious (I recommend the cheesesteak egg rolls). Where things went downhill was a switch in servers. Our new server kept harassing us to order but we just ordered a lot of food for lunch and drinks with the prior server so we were stuffed and good on drinks. We kept feeling pressured just to order because of her. She also started to talk badly about us to other customers. She was a very nasty server. FYI we did keep ordering and ordered many rounds of drinks and dinner with her. So her behavior was uncalled for. We spent at least $2000 that day just to be served rudely.

Yelp
About what you'd expect from an Irish Pub in Philly. You're usual selection of beers, ales, and spirits. The pub sliders, chicken tenders, and Bavarian pretzel are all solid choices if you're stopping by for an after-work gathering. I'd say the best menu items are the appetizer and small plate choices. If you have to choose only one item, go with the pretzel. It's huge (for at least 3 people), and it goes so well with a round or two of brews. The runner-up would be the sliders. They're nice a juicy, with flavorful toppings. Get some fries with them and there's another dish that can be served to a party of 3. The ambience is about what you'd expect from a more traditional style pub, though it's bigger than you'd think. The service can be a little hit or miss, but is generally good. I've had some great servers there and others who seemed to come and go pretty quickly. Definitely a solid consideration for lunch or a happy hour excursion.

Yelp
Walking down Locust St, looking for a place for a late dinner, not far from our hotel, we found Fado. We walked in to a sign that said to seat yourself. In our experience, this usually leads poor service. But we cautiously took a chance. We sat at a table. Most seats looked comfy, like cushioned chairs or padded benches. The place has an eccletic decor, but had the Phillys game on. It has a very comfortable, laid back vibe. Immediately our server, Caitlyn came over, brought menus and a bottle of water telling us to let us know if we had questions. The menu is limited, just a few apps, a few sandwich choices, a few entrees, and tons of cocktails, draft beers, whisky, ect. We ordered drinks...a strawberry lemon drop and an aperol sprizer. Both very delicious. My husband ordered a second lemon drop. We decided on a few appetizer to see how the food was before committing fully. So we ordered the cheese dip with wedges and the sliders, keeping the menu in case we wanted something else. Caitlin was easy going, friendly, and always nearby if we needed something. We got 3 sliders, which were really good. And the cheese dip was my favorite! The boxty wedges, basically potato tortilla chips, were very tasty, especially with the cheese dip! Caitlin had even offered to get us more wedges to finish up the dip. Since these were so good, we decided to try the cheesesteak egg rolls. Also, really good!! Either we chose the 3 best apps or everything here is worth a try! If we are ever in yhe area, we will eat here again!

Yelp
Ok service and food. Went for trivia and the food wasn't bad. Good for bar, not for dinner for me

Yelp
Perfect for a quick bite before a show at the Kimmel Center. We stopped by last night and the service was fast, the drinks were cold, and the food was good! We had salmon bites to start which were amazing and exactly as I envisioned them to be. From there my husband had a chicken and shrimp dish wrapped in an Irish pancake and I had a strawberry summer salad. Both were very tasty. Beers were great and we were out of there with plenty of time to see a show. Prices were fair - we've been to more expensive restaurants before shows and this was a better experience. The place itself was what I expected an Irish pub to be! It wasn't crowded and we had a great table at the window for people watching.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this pub and was surprised they had brunch so we went in and tried it. $20 bottomless mimosas so of course we opted in. The wait time to get a refill was long at first but after the first 4 glasses it was appreciated. They had an interesting Irish inspired breakfast menu but we were lame and opted for more traditional breakfast platter and burger which were decent.

Yelp
Last time I was hear I had a decent pint and a good burger. Maybe I felt bad as free of my mates didn't show up...plus two many Georgie supporters about during the game. What have they one since 2010?

Eva B.

Yelp
Rachel the bartender is rude and doesn't care for her customers. If you want okay drinks come here for a fun chat etc otherwise if rachel is your bartender avoid because she is rude and unappreciative

Sue S.

Yelp
Food, drinks and service! A+++ Our table was ready when we arrived. The food, drinks, and service was took notch! We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Walked in last night. Bouncer at the door literally tried to start a fight with me for unknown reason. My girlfriend and the second bouncer were shocked. Don't think I'll ever come back to a place with a loose cannon at the door. Btw we were both sober too.

Yelp
Hosted a reception here. Great spot, service, and food! The chicken fingers were really good. Friends loved the hot wings.

Yelp
Fado is a very underrated bar for the masses/select few. On the superficial front, it's the quintessential frat bar. But go off peak hours, you have excellent mixologists//skilled bartenders (Adrian/Melissa) who know their stuff and can accommodate even the strictest cocktail enthusiasts and wow them. The zucchini noodles dish is to die fr, and the happy hour is above par. Definitely worth a visit or stay.

Yelp
Fado for dinner and trivia on a week night is 4-star worthy. Fado for going out on the weekend is at most 2-stars. Leaving my overall review a solid 3-stars. Why, you might ask? Let's dive in... I've been to Fado for their weekly trivia at 8 PM on Wednesday nights. They offer a few special beer prices that start at 7:30 and run until trivia ends. I recommend making a reservation to ensure you get a table because this trivia spot is popular and packed, and it seems that every guest is there for trivia. My most recent visit was last week. We made our reservation about two weeks in advance, not because we felt that we needed to, but we decided that was the week that worked best for our group and wanted to be proactive. Masks are required when you enter the space. There is usually a hostess greeting guests and directing you to a section of tables reserved with pieces of paper that have your reservation name on them. We easily found ours, conveniently located right next to the trivia host table. We ordered rounds of drinks and put in food orders. I recommend coming earlier, because the kitchen can be slow once all the trivia participants are there and seated. We made our reservation for 7 PM, while most trivia goers arrive at 7:30 (most likely for the drink specials) and our food still took a really long time. One of our dishes took about 30 minutes longer than the rest, and it was just chicken fingers with fries. Our server made a mistake and entered them incorrectly the first time, so I guess that explains the delay but it seemed as though they may have gotten forgotten twice. The food is good, we really enjoyed the wings. I also really liked the fried goat cheese and the honey sauce it came with. A bit on the pricer side for what you get, but not crazy expensive. When it comes to going out here, I just don't anymore. I've had friends get their wallets stolen out of their pant pockets. Cell phones disappear. Most recently, a friend started a tab and when they asked to close it the bartender said they "lost" his credit card. How is this possible? They offered a consolation free round... not quite the best solution. It's very alarming that an establishment would not hold itself accountable to find a credit card, it seems like it's taking advantage of the drunken customers. Overall, a nice place to stop for food if you're in the area but not by any means a culinary highlight. I'd avoid it at all costs on the weekends after 9 PM.

Yelp
Security staff is always nice and always makes us laugh while waiting in the long line. They always make it feel like a hometown bar. Both guys at the door laugh and joke and make the wait seem short. We appreciate that. They had to deal with a very intoxicated girl and they handled the situation extremely professional. The main guy(the guy with the long beard) think his name is Greg, was very professional and stayed with the girl till the ambulance arrived. He also made sure that she didn't go home with a creepy guy that kept saying "she is fine and she is going home with me". He told the guy to get lost. He stayed there and talked with her and was calming her down till the ambulance arrived, Again it makes me feel safe when my Gf goes there without me that he would go the extra mile to make sure everyone is safe. Will definitely be back!!! The bartenders also rock considering how busy it gets in there. Kudos to them also for dealing with the kids and still maintaining their professionalism!!!

Johanna A.

Yelp
Extremely rude! Drinks and music were good, but if you want to get treated nicely, AVOID! Bouncer and one bartender were very terrible to my friend! My friend was literally pushed out of the bar when they were kicking people out at the end of the night when we were already on our way out! 10 minutes before close!
google avatar

Abraham K.

Yelp
I don't get why people have had such negative experiences here. Everyone was really friendly from the hostess to the server. Food was fresh and tasty. Huge pub. Clean bathrooms.
google avatar

BakLav A.

Yelp
Fish and chips were underwhelming. Chips are frozen burger king-like NOT wedge fries. Place is an underage club fri/sat nights and the cleanup is NOT adequate for business the following day! Also with the amount of staff and apparent managers they have, you'd think there would be better internal organization. There are much better irish pubs in the city worth your $9 for a pint!
google avatar

Shifa A.

Yelp
I'm so glad this pub is not only open, but thriving.m during this Covid reality. Not sure where they are taking reservations, but I called up in advance and got us a table for 2 on the same day. We ordered a couple of beers and fish tacos as well as the slow cooked lamb sandwich. Both great as usual. They are not serving the entire menu, which was a bummer but understandable since they serve really good curry fries and boxty quesadillas. Definitely our go to pub that has been consistent over the past decade.
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
My friends and I went there for dinner and for trivia night. Had a 730pm RSVP, started off with drinks, and then once it got closer to 8PM, the hostess/waiter told us that we had to move to a different table away from the main room because it was past our RSVP. I think that it was ridiculous to make us move to a different table while we were drinking and waiting for more ppl to come. Our waiter, Jocelyn, was horrible. She made a comment about us moving saying, "Its not a big deal," which was totally unnecessary. She gave us an attitude the entire night, with someone simple like getting water refills for us. Overall, not a good experience at all.
google avatar

Brittany J.

Yelp
This is the city's go to spot for premier league soccer. If you want to watch the big game of the week and don't have a supporter bar, Fado is your best chance at a lively atmosphere. Get there early if you want a table! The food is decent, but definitely city pricing. During games service can be mixed due to the size of the crowd. Prepare to wait a bit for each order and plan accordingly. They're an easy walk from city hall.

Marta O.

Yelp
Service was not good- needed to ask for service every step of the meal! Great cheese appetizer!
google avatar

Sheila H.

Yelp
I come to Fado routinely for a pre-theatre brunch. The service is always great, and my go-to is the traditional Irish breakfast which doesn't disappoint. If you're an Irish football enthusiast or fan of Premier Soccer, this is the place for you. Slainte!

Meghan B.

Yelp
Greg is the best bouncer ever. Super considerate and charismatic! Would recommend! They're here every weekend and have just a great vibe!

Ryan P.

Yelp
Just to preface this review apply only to the dine in experience as we did not sit at the bar. Anyways I sadly can't recommend this place for food. My wife and I got the sliders and the Mac and cheese to share. The food was sub par and wasn't very satisfying. Sliders were just cooked to well done and the pasta was a little overcooked. My wife wasn't a fan of the pasta because it was Guinness Mac and cheese but I actually really like the taste. The service was also ok but nothing to be amazed by. The atmosphere of the place is very much Irish pub but the actual tables and seats were a little tattered and uneven. The stools were taller while the booths were quite low. To be fair it wasn't like this everywhere and a little our faults for choosing that section specifically. After everything, I unfortunately can't recommend the food but we'll most definitely be back for the bar sometime in the future.

Emily B.

Yelp
This bar is one of the worst in Philadelphia. The music is reliable horrible, the bar, floor, and bathrooms are always dirty. And you can't help but notice that the staff rarely pays attention to their customers. Unfortunate fall from grace for a previous great Philly spot :/
google avatar

Savannah P.

Yelp
So glad we found this place! We sat ourselves by a window seat with a nice street view. One of the staff members quickly offered to open the window for us if we'd like. It was a really nice touch, & really great service from the beginning! Our server was very sweet. I ordered the black bean burger and was astonished at this veggie burger patty. I had to take a photo! Amazing flavor in the burger and the fries were great. Definitely will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
It's been a very long time since I was last here. I think we first came when it opened and my Irish in-laws visiting from Dublin were impressed with the authentic décor brought over from their side of the sea. I believe my father-on-law still proudly wears his Philly Fado fleece jacket to this day... Which brings me to my most recent visit. Food was unremarkable bar food but it filled our bellies on a cold, blustery day. It was crowded with festive Eagle fans and the televisions and speakers were almost unbearably loud. We met a friendly couple next to us but the noise made it almost impossible to hear one another. Not the fault of the boisterous fans but I will keep that in mind next time...

Yelp
My friend and I attended the Academy of Music to see a show; afterward we decided to have an early dinner. So we stopped at this restaurant, the service and the food was good. Checked the expiration date on the mustard container and it had expired on April 2022. The server diligently check the supply of mustard and most of them had expired however she was able to find one that was in code. Thank you for checking!
google avatar

Allie A.

Yelp
Popped into this convenient location next to the 15th & Locust PATCO stop after a show at the Academy of Music. It was loud and full of Eagles fans, so pretty busy, but we were able to get seated pretty quickly to the back of the restaurant. PROS: We loved the little "snugs" (what the Irish call the small booths) - just like in some of the older pubs in Ireland. The wings were meaty and crispy, but they but the hot sauce and ranch (?) dressing in tiny cups that make dipping in them impossible. Ended up pouring them over the wings, which made for a messy meal. CONS: Server failed to remember that we told her we were sharing the dishes, so she didn't get us extra plates. Seeing those pop-up room fresheners on the top of shelves above us was kind of weird. The shepherd's pie was a fail. While the mashed potatoes were tasty, the meaty layer underneath was extremely salty. Service was OK - after our food was served, we didn't get checked on if we needed more drinks. I get it, the place was busy but still, trying to find and flag down our server was useless.

Yelp
Another great meal at Fado's. My family was impressed. We turned dinner into tapas style eating, sharing the Bavarian pretzel, Irish pasties, pear & bleu cheese salad, wings, salmon bites and fish and chips. Service and food was fantastic! My niece said their gin & tonics were superb. It gets packed after 6pm on a Friday. Luckily we had 5:30 reservations.

Yelp
Currently here watching the game ... Ask for the drink and food the waitress said "I'm NOT in your section" and walk out even when I asked for water .....extremely bad service doesn't matter how busy your business is , she could politely be like let me get someone to help. Overall the game is going good !
google avatar

Samantha F.

Yelp
Maddie and Brennan took great care of us last week, from table service to drinks at the bar after. They made an effort to get to know us and chatted regularly while taking care of their other guests. I especially appreciated how polite Maddie and the other brunette server with curly hair were with our party. Wedding guests can be a lot, especially when they've taken over half a restaurant, but they were always kind and friendly as they moved through our crowd (and the sometimes unruly groomsmen we tried to reel in!). We'll be back and hope this crew can look after us again.

Yelp
Service at Fado has been consistently bad the past few months, at least when I've tried to get a drink, which shouldn't be a big deal. The sad thing is that I've hit Fado off and on for over a decade, at least since 2008-2010? Here are 2 specific examples. The one time I was there I asked the bartender whether or not they served hot drinks, they told me "no" and walked away from me before I could order anything. I then ordered a cider. But, if you pull up the drink menu for Fado, they actually serve, under their cocktail menu, "Hot Spiced Apple Cider" and "Spiked Hot Chocolate". Either the bartender didn't know the menu (highly unlikely) or just didn't feel like making me the drink. I thought the experience I had wasn't a big deal, but I had yet another bad experience recently. I was trying to order a beer when the bartender blew me off specifically. I was looking straight at him and the bartender refused to serve me. He, in fact, served other people who walked as the bar and blew me off and I could see him looking at me, but refused to serve me. I was eventually able to get a beer when I went to the side and asked the female bartender for a beer. I gave her a nice tip for actually DOING HER JOB. I've always tried to be kind and courteous and tip when I've been served. Normally I wouldn't even write a review but this consistently bad service has really bothered me and I wanted to share my bad experiences with people. I've been blown off by bartenders and also consistently lied to when it comes to the menu. If you're looking to relax, unwind and de-stress after a long week at work, you're most likely better off going somewhere else.

Yelp
I came here for a weeknight dinner and no problem with service at this time. When in Rome, you gotta get a Guinness here. Ordered the Fado burger, which came with a fried egg, arugula, cheese, and a bacon marmalde on a pretzel roll. The bun itself was good - what you would want in a pretzel bun! The burger was cooked to a perfect medium temp, which is what I requested. Would've liked if the yolk wasn't fully cooked and let it run down the burger. Would order this again!

Yelp
Im a bit biased towards fado because its literally where most of our company parties happen...but at the same time its not their fault that the food and drinks are pretty darn good. This review will be soley based on the giant viking pretzel and ginger whiskey beer i tried. First of all, this pretzel is HUGE!! I mean "share with 4-5 ppl huge. And i can EAT! The pretzel is sort of hard on some of the outside parts but sooooooooo soft and fluffy on the inside. I literally don't know how they make it like that. It comes paired with a fondue-style chesse dipping sauce that has a hint of tomato and cilantro. Its incredible. I could pour that sauce on some cereal and it would be good (not really). The ginger beer and whiskey shot....like WHY HAVEN'T I DONE THAT AT HOME YET?? Well i know why...cause i would be a hot mess everyday, but back to the review. The combo of sweet ginger beer with the whiskey shot poured in creates a strong but not overbearing flavor that pairs so well with the pretzel....ho mai gawd. And it taste even better during happy-hour haaaa... Try it...But your pretzel experience will never be the same.

Yelp
I am surprised at how good the brunch was here! They make really good mimosas and lots of seating - so you don't really have to worry about a wait here. The service here is super friendly as well! I came here with a big group for a birthday and had a separate area to ourselves. I ordered the fish and chips; but instead of chips got the breakfast potatoes instead. Everything about my meal was perfect and I'd recommend it as the fish is not too heavily fried where you feel like you're consuming a huge amount of oil. Definitely would come back again for brunch!

Yelp
This place is terrible. I wouldn't recommend anyone go there for any reason. Bad food. Rude bouncers. Poor service. Dirty bathrooms. Expensive drinks. Will not go back for any reason.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar! The staff are friendly and the menu has great options for everyone!
