15 of the Coolest Places to Get Ice Cream and Gelato in Seattle

"With locations in Wallingford and Fremont — the latter attached to the Fremont Vintage Mall — this shop serves consistently excellent gelato, made with organic milk from Washington State dairies. Along with the gelati, it offers several top-notch sorbets. Fainting Goat also serves an unusual goat milk gelato flavored with resin from the Mediterranean mastic tree." - Sophie Grossman, Eater Staff

Fainting Goat Gelato Review - Wallingford - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Fainting Goat’s gelato has a nice, light taste—so if you want gelato but also don’t want to feel like you just drank whipping cream from the carton, it’s perfect. We like the range of flavors here, from the biscotti flavor to the (very appropriate) goat’s milk to the roasted almond and the fig, and whatever you order, you’d do well to eat it panini-style inside of a sweet bun." - Aimee Rizzo

Google
Good place to get gelato. I still prefer nutty squirrel gelato. I wish it was a bit more creamy as it taste like ice cream. Good service, great location and I’d come back!

Seon

Google
I got tiramisu and matcha. Very good and flavorful.

Alvin Nguyen

Google
One of the best salted caramel ice cream I have ever had. At other places, they make it too salty while at Fainting Goat, the saltiness level is just right. I also really like Tiramisu flavor.

Giulia Karina

Google
Gelato Gem - This is the best gelato I have tasted in Seattle. I tasted the hazelnut and the peach flavor, and they were Amazing. The right taste of sugar is super creamy but soft at the same time. I can’t wait to return and taste the rest of the flavors.

Google
I got this after I came from Indigo Cow 😂. So we have indigo cows and fainting goats. I ordered the small hoping it was a small. NOPE. It was a cup FULL of gelato. I got fig and hazelnut. The fig was very sweet. The hazelnut tasted like hazelnuts (duh) but it was the flavor so it didn’t come with any hazelnuts in the gelato. They have a mint marshmallow flavor that looked interesting. The people working here were also very friendly and patient. I think the only recommendation I would make is to have a trash can nearby. Man I’m going to get diabetes if I keep this up. All this ice cream

Google
Reasonably good gelato with the unique goat milk gelato (slight earthy flavor) along with the classics. Decent prices, large portions. The staff on the day we visited seemed to be having a bad day though.

Google
I love Fainting Goat! They've been a Wallingford staple for years. My absolute favorite flavor is their lemon grisbi gelato but everything else is great too. I also really like the art on display within the shop, which you can purchase. If you're on the fence (or even if you're not), give this place a try- you won't regret it.

Google
AFFOGATO!!! This is the place to get it! Double espresso over 2 scoops. We have been searching for a good affogato place for years and now we’ve found it. Only downside was no vanilla flavor. But life is short so we got caramel

Yelp
Came in, server let me try four flavors. I probably could've tried more but didn't want to get too much LOL. It was all pretty good, but I ended up getting the Pistachio and Mexican Vanilla Bean. The matcha was pretty good too but my friends ordered it and I hate ordering the same thing. Pretty good dessert, would definitely come back!

Yelp
The staff was very friendly and patient with me as I tried some flavors! She was also very patient with the kids after us. The place feels clean and has a good ambiance for hanging out if you need a moment to rest. Regarding the ice cream and sorbet itself, it is very very sweet. Admittedly, I am not a fan of super sweet desserts and ice cream but if you are, you might like this! My boyfriend and I got the pineapple sorbet and sea salt caramel. Both flavors are good although the sea salt caramel tasted like coffee. Not exactly my go-to ice cream place but I'm glad I tried it! Decent price for ice cream!

Yelp
Went after dinner for desert- I was hoping for one vegan option but they were all out. The group I was with raved about the tiramisu flavor and pistachio. I really loved their event poster wall and they had good jams playing.
google avatar

Kathy N.

Yelp
My friends and I tried the chocolate fondante, Mexican vanilla bean, and pistachio, and tiramisu in a pint. The medium size, which allows 3 flavors, was pretty hefty and definitely for sharing with friends. The gelatos were all smooth and creamy. The chocolate had a fairly bitter taste to it and I thought it tasted like cocoa powder. I'd categorize it as an adult chocolate rather than one you'd want to give kids. I've never had Mexican vanilla bean before but the flavor itself was so pronounced and strong in the gelato, which I appreciated. The pistachio and tiramisu ones had more subtle flavors The medium was $7.50

Yelp
I love love love this place because of the taste and also because it is goat milk! I don't tolerate well cow milk ice cream and these have been great every single time! We like them better in summer but winter is totally fine :D I believe that the ones that are always on the counter is lemon and espresso. Both are very good. I like trying new or seasonal flavours too as mango or was it pineapple? And try their waffle! Oh super tasty!! I will definitely go and try the fig one. I've been trying to catch it! We usually sit in one of their two small tables outside. The one in the inside is very busy. Staff is very patient and friendly. Sometimes we have to make a line but it moves fast when 2 people helping. Finding a parking spot on the road is a challenge. Last time we paid in a nearby parking lot.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick gelato craving after dinner. The chocolate flavor was ummmmmmmm sooooooooooo goooooood. So fudgy, gooey and oh so delicious. I could eat it all day. Hubby got the lemon olive oil and rose flavors and loved it. Lemon was tart, just how he likes. And rose was very refreshing. Great dessert option if you are in the hood!

Yelp
Delicious dessert that's sizable too. Though not quite crazy enough to impress and exceed expectations, Fainting Goat is above average. Gelato is an improved version of ice cream that can also be considered healthier with less fat and less sugar. It's also typically denser with less air whereas ice cream sometimes is half (50%) air. We got the Mint stratiacella, chai latte, Fainting Goats Milk with, and Chocolate Fondante I'd rank my favorite to least favorite as: chocolate fondante, chai latte, mint, and fainting goat My partner ranked: mint, chocolate, chai latte, fainting goat The fainting goat simply had a more indescribable taste that was a little too unique for our likings. It wasn't necessarily bad, just different. Some type of vanilla with The mint was very standard but hard to go wrong with. Chocolate was extremely rich. Chai latte was a cinnamon flavor with strong hints of sweetness One complaint was that my utensil had plastic bits ripping off and I eventually found out I ate some bits thinking it was part of the gelato. Super tiny bits but awful to think about. Debated on how this affected my perspective for a bit but I think it's a negative.

Bill B.

Yelp
Excellent! Stracchiatella had lots of chocolate and the pistachio and almond gelato contain nuts which put them over the top flavor-wise. Friendly staff always ready to help and pleasant to be around.
google avatar

Becky P.

Yelp
It punched me in the face with chocolate, and I deeply respect that. The espresso flavor is also very good

Yelp
I've been excited to check this place out for a while now since I've been missing the gelato in Italy! It was empty on a weekday evening too. My partner and I split a 3-scoop cone with chocolate fondante, goats milk, and pink guava gelato. Chocolate fondante was not too chocolatey - but I now see they have dark chocolate on the menu. Goats milk was a subtle flavor, not sure how to describe really, and I wasn't a big fan unfortunately. The pink guava was yummy but a little too sweet. Overall not super super impressed with the flavors I picked unfortunately. But the gelato was very creamy and silky smooth. So I'll have to give this a 3.5/5. Although I'll have to come back to try the hazelnut or dark chocolate if they have those flavors.
google avatar

Erica Z.

Yelp
Pink guava - 5/10 - tasted like bubble gum or soda, not in a good way Chai tea -7.5/10 Hazelnut - 6/10 Stracciatella - 7.5/10 We both got a small cup with 2 scoops and the portion size was decent ‍

Shannon W.

Yelp
Got the lemon which I saw high praise for, and I was let down. The ingredients were not evenly mixed at all. Lots of spoonfuls of just overpowering crème flavor without any hint of lemon. Some bites had lots of lemon flavor. The lemon wafers mixed in were a good addition but sparse and few in between. Portions were good, the baby size for $5 would be a small elsewhere. However with few flavor options and experience I had, not sure I would come back.

Yelp
The kiddos and I have been checking out various ice cream spots in the Seattle area and this one definitely ranks up there! I ordered the small and it was a pretty big portion. My kiddo got the medium and could barely finish. Other kiddo got the small in a waffle cone and it was filled up. We tried the chocolate fondante, Mexican vanilla, stracciatella and toasted almond gelatos and they were all fantastic. Stracciatella is my usual go-to flavor and I was not disappointed. None of the gelatos were overtly sweet and they were all exceedingly rich and creamy. There are a couple of tables for outdoor seating. It was really nice to sit outside on a warm evening, people watch and enjoy our treat. We have been wanting to stop by for a while now, and we are so glad we finally did!

Cynthia W.

Yelp
Always great whenever we go. We look forward to seeing the seasonal flavors during our visit. Right now it's cinnamon or pumpkin spice. I tried the cinnamon one (as 1/2 of my small order) with the other half being cappuccino. Friend had cinnamon and pistachio. Yum!
google avatar

Gina T.

Yelp
I've only ordered the gelato milkshakes and I absolutely adore them! Super creamy with strong flavors. I've tried earl grey (during summer) and pistachio (this past week) and both were wonderful. Flavors rotate, not exactly seasonal per server since they make a new batch when the previous batch is running low.

tt p.

Yelp
The best! I had oral surgery and could only eat ice cream for 5 days. I tried every ice cream place in the area, Fainting goat was the best by a long shot. If you want a scoop or can only eat ice cream - highly recommend.
google avatar

Fionna L.

Yelp
The gelato didn't blow my mind but it was still quite nice! Pistachio gelato was subtly sweet and its aromatic flavor was very well done. Stracciatella was *chefs kiss* classic. Hazelnut was velvety and nuttily delicious. Even the small portions were enough to make my friend and I feel full! 4 stars for the taste, but the overall experience was a 3 since the cashier made us feel unwelcome. I understand that they might have been having a bad day, but treating customers as if they just wanted us to leave is not acceptable.

John W.

Yelp
I've eaten here a couple times before, and it's been great. I love Mexican vanilla. It's heavenly. However, when I went there tonight (Oct 10) and ordered Mex vanilla and Tiramisu, for some reason they came out already melting. I ate them outside so it wasn't hot or anything, but a lot of it was soupy already. I think their ice cream is kind of expensive, so for this price I wish they'd make sure it's frozen. Also unfortunate because I had to drive a long way to get it.
google avatar

Emma T.

Yelp
I just love the name and the gelato was pretty good. It was a bit expensive but would go again to try out the different flavors. The service was quick, especially since I went during December and it was snowing in Seattle. lol Would love to try it again during a warmer season It's a cute store and had some seating. We parked on the street when we visited.

Yelp
This gelato shop was such a nice surprise! I wasn't expecting to eat here, but I am so glad I did. The gelato here so smooth and creamy. And the flavors are on point -- I highly recommend the double espresso and mint. Great combination. The best part is three sizes offered. I opted for the smallest size and was only expecting to choose one flavor, but the guy helping my group out said we could choose two! This is now a permanent bookmark for whenever I'm in the Seattle area.

Yelp
All of summer I have been trying different ice cream places and Fainting Goat was on my list. Last night we drove from West Seattle to this place to try their gelatos. We ordered 2 small scoops (2 flavors) one with Stracciatella+ Chocolate Fondante and the other with Chocolate Fondante+Sea Salt Caramel. Everything tasted good. The gelatos were delicious BUT the customer service was HORRIBLE. It was my first time visiting this place and obviously as an ice cream lover I was confused as to what to order but my husband was clear and ready to order immediately. I told the young lady behind the counter that I was confused and if she could help me out. She rolled her eyes and did not respond even though she stood right there judging me. I was looking at the different options trying to make up my mind (and reading the ingredients in some gelatos since I was not familiar with it at all being my first time here) and she seemed grumpy and irritated. Trust me this was all in 30 seconds to a min max so its not like I was standing there confused not knowing what to order for 10 mins+. Fearfully, I ordered the Stracciatella+ Chocolate Fondante. There was absolutely no one in the store apart from my husband and I so she could have been kind friendly and courteous. Rolling eyes? seriously? That is not the level of customer service I expect from any place. Plus why not help ice cream lovers understand what is one of your best sellers so we can see what you have. Now I do know why this ice cream place is not crowded as some other places - nobody wants to walk in to an ice cream parlor to be treated this poorly. Clearly this ruined our evening and left a bitter taste. Sadly, I will not be returning again no matter how good their gelatos are.

Gina G.

Yelp
Love this place!!! Their gelato is absolutely amazing, and there are great flavor options! Friendly staff and nice eating environment; lots of natural light and good music.
google avatar

Warren C.

Yelp
The Gelato is very delicious and many varieties of flavors, especially its seasonal flavors. My favorite is the rose flavor, as it's very fragrant. The small size comes with 2 choices of flavors! There's outside seating as well, which is perfect on a warm summer day.
google avatar

Brittany T.

Yelp
Surprised I wasn't a fan of Fainting Goat. Their gelatos are made fresh in house and they have a nice variety of flavors, along with a super sweet server, but the chocolate I got just didn't pack a punch. I did finish it, as I believe it cost me around $6, but probably won't be returning.
google avatar

Julie P.

Yelp
BEST SORBET EVER PERIOD. omgggg all of their sorbet flavors are so delicious!!! I absolutely love fainting goat and I definitely recommend this place over Molly Moons to all my friends who visit. The flavors are usually changing but all the flavors that I've tried were all super yummy! I love the pineapple, strawberry, peach, & raspberry sorbet.. actually ALL the sorbets are so good! So light, fresh & flavorful. Highly highly recommended! If you're in Wallingford, make sure to try Fainting Goat! I just wish I lived closer to this place - but then it would be bad for me because I would want to eat it everyday! Hahah :)
google avatar

Yoona L.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this place. Some flavors were a big pass for me but the pistachio gelato was one of the better ones I've tried. Nothing amazing but decent and kind of like playing roulette with the flavors. Convenient location, no lines, ok service.

Amy T.

Yelp
I love coming back to this spot because it's a cute shop located in Wallingford and they serve a variety of non-dairy options (for those who are lactose-challenge). I've tried most of their non-dairy options and I've been impressed with all of them! I'm going to keep coming back here and bring everyone who haven't visited this spot!
google avatar

Alice Z.

Yelp
Workers were super friendly! Glad we were able to try samples!! Ended up getting the Hazelnut flavor and it was so good! Highly reccomend
google avatar

Arlene S.

Yelp
I got a small cup with two flavors and the server definitely gave us two huge scoops to make it worth the cost. This is a great option for people who is lactose intolerant as it is not as creamy but still a great cooling treat for the summer. I got the Mexican vanilla and tiramisu that both of them are not too sweet so doesn't feel overwhelming/heavy for dessert.
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
First and last visit :/ Bought a pint and found bits of silver foil in the bottom. Biting on foil is bad enough let alone when you're planning on enjoying some gelato. Such a turn off I won't be back, not when there are other iced treat places to visit nearby.

Yelp
Our last stop of the night was at Fainting Goat Gelato. Always love trying out new gelato spots. It's a few doors from Yoroshiku. We dropped in on a late Friday evening (around 10:30pm). The one worker was starting to clean up the shop but was super friendly and let us know they were still open for business. The inside is small with half a dozen tables. They had 14 gelato and sorbet flavours available. We sampled a couple before we made our decision. Scoops are on the pricey side ($4.95 US single, $6.50 US double and $8.50 US triple). Not cheap for us Canadians. They also had espresso, pints ($10.00 US), affogato and gelato cakes on the menu. There's gelato sandwiches ($6.50 US) and macaroons ($1.75 US) but I didn't see any in the fridge. - Two scoops ($6.50 US) - we went with pear ginger sorbet and Mexican vanilla. Sorbet was refreshing but I tasted more ginger than pear flavour. Good but the flavour was a bit too subtle. Mexican vanilla was much more satisfying; reminded me of horchata. Think they mix cinnamon into this. I'd get it again. FGG was worth a try but we weren't blown away by their gelato and sorbet flavours. 3.5 stars.
google avatar

Gloria C.

Yelp
Question: why it is called Fainting Goat? After dinner next door, we decided to come to next door just because there is a 4.5 reviews on yelp and come on it is GELATO. Ordered earl grey favor gelato and that blows my mind! First - shocked that there is even earl grey tea favor; second - strong earl grey favor, not disappointed. Very friendly services. Only downside was the table is pretty sticky - either lots of people comes for the gelato so staff are too busy, OR they just forgot to swipe table haha(?) NOTE: their one scoop is pretty big - well in my opinion. Will come again.
google avatar

Charlyn G.

Yelp
Sweet, velvety, light, and delightful gelato! This gelato shop gives you a generous amount & does not taste like other gelatos in Seattle. The goat milk they use is locally sourced with mastica as a secondary ingredient base - this is what makes their gelato so good & unique! They also offer affogado gelato, gelato cake, gelato panini, and molten cakes. Their molten cakes are pretty deliciousness are served in a tiny mason jar -- so you can take one home and bake it in your oven yourself! Friendly customer service , gelato made with care and heart. This is the perfect destination for ice cream dessert in the Wallingford neoghborhood.
google avatar

Sachi T.

Yelp
Nutella gelato anyone?! You can actually taste the Nutella (instead of it being chocolate hazelnut - yes there's a difference). I got a baby scoop for $4.34 with tax and it's actually a lot of ice cream!
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
A delicate balance of smooth, soft and dense texture, Fainting Goat is a great mom-and-pop gelato shop that uses local and organic ingredients. The shop was empty when we went and it's doesn't get too crowded which is nice. The guy behind the counter was kind enough to accommodate my endless request of samples. Out of all of the samples that I tried, I settled on a scoop of the Biscotti which had an almond cookie taste. I was heavily disappointed in the pistachio, which I usually love. It didn't really have a distinct pistachio flavor so I decided on the Biscotti which had a little texture to it. The gelato here isn't overly rich but has a nice balance. You can definitely tell this place uses local, fresh and organic ingredients in their gelato. With that said, Fainting Goat is a great spot for gelato in Seattle! However, if I had to choose my favorite gelato place in Seattle, I'd go to D'Ambrosio Gelato.

Parnian V.

Yelp
Pretty good gelato! I wished the tiramisu flavor had a tiny bit more chocolate, it kind of just tasted like coffee gelato. But it was really good and creamy.
google avatar

Jenny C.

Yelp
The staff here is welcoming and friendly. The location is great and located near a bunch of small shops. I had a nice time walking around on a nice day. There are many flavors of gelato and the staff was nice about providing samples. I normally gravitate toward rich and sweet flavors like chocolate but was pleasantly surprised with the sour cherry. The cherry gelato had swirls of cherry purée and was not overly sour; it had a good balance of sweet. I have only had this flavor here and have not seen it anywhere else.
google avatar

Janai C.

Yelp
Well... clearly there is no picture because I ate it too fast. I ordered a small which in my opinion was more like a medium or large. You get 2 flavors and they had my 2 favorite coffee/espresso and amaretto.
google avatar

Tiffany H.

Yelp
Got the espresso and salted caramel gelato! I enjoyed their gelato, and it was creamy. I was able to sample some other flavors, and Fainting Goat has some hits and misses. Portions are pretty big/ decent!
google avatar

Connie A.

Yelp
A chilly Sunday night in Seattle calls for some yummy gelato, duh! The staff were super friendly in accommodating our sampling requests and we got 2 baby cones with half flavor scoops. My friend got earl grey and hazelnut and I got earl grey and espresso. For someone who is as lactose intolerant as me, I love ice cream with a passion.. and this gelato definitely satisfied that dairy craving! Great price for the scoops and I would def come back when I'm nearby!
google avatar

Travis L.

Yelp
If you are seeking a retreat from the battle of the giants, Molly & Salt, then swing by here for some tasty gelato. We love diversity in our culinary experiences, so keeping a healthy rotation of delicious deserts is a must. Fainting Goat flavors themselves also change, which makes it easier to come back. Personally, I like swinging by when I'm in the mood for something cold and sweet but not fussy. The flavors here are always very straight forward and I taste exactly as you expect and want them. Added bonus, it's slightly less crowded, yes, you'll still have to stand in line sometimes but not nearly as often and the staff here keep everyone happy and moving along.
google avatar

Flora H.

Yelp
*** 4.5 Stars *** Fainting Goat is awesome and kicks Molly Moons butt in the ice cream department. Maybe I shouldn't compare them since Molly Moons is ice cream and this is gelato, but I'm comparing them anyways. For the same price and no line, I'd come here instead every time. The flavors here are all good. They are smooth and rich (but not too rich), just really flavorful and not too sweet at all. Really nice people work here, too. I had the mint and the mastic goat milk, which was just such a unique and interesting flavor that I had to get it. For a single scoop you get two flavors (it's really like two scoops). They won't let adults get the kid size here, but that's not really a problem for me since I can always eat ice cream. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Tommy L.

Yelp
it was the summer '09 when we visited this place after our horrible dinner next door. It was recommended via Yelp because its high score. I ordered 3 scoops of different flavors, and the passionfruit has got to be the ONE, EVER, THE BEST, that I had ever tasted!!! This passionfruit Gelato saved the night for me! HIGHLY recommend!!
google avatar

Daveena S.

Yelp
Went in today after a friends recommendation and I was a little spectacle as I walked in. However, I had a good experience. The customer service was great the worker happily shared multiple flavors and recommended the most popular ones. Got a kid scoop around 4$! Highly recommend roasted almond flavor if you like something more subtly sweet!

LE M.

Yelp
I got the Mexican vanilla and the goats milk and I really enjoyed them both! The goat's milk had a subtly sweet flavor to it, it was nice and refreshing to have something so subtle. The Mexican vanilla had some almost floral undertones which was unexpected yet worked really well and was very pleasant. If they have a rotating list of flavors I would really like to come back when there are a few more that sound a little more appealing to me!
google avatar

Amber K.

Yelp
Wowow amazing gelato with very tasty flavors to choose from! Highly recommend the sour cherry swirl.
google avatar

Jess C.

Yelp
Seattle loves their ice cream and gelato! I am still in search for my favorite ice cream shop. Currently my go-to is Salt and Straw. Pros - huge portions - friendly service - sells pints to go Cons - too sweet - didn't like any of their special flavors, like coconut or pistachio.
google avatar

Masa K.

Yelp
Fainting Goat is a wonderful small chain of gelato shops. We normally go to the Wallingford one on 45th and are always greeted with friendly workers. This last time around we were lucky in that it wasn't super crowded, as it sometimes is. We took up the big round table and got our whole party in. Even though it took a moment for us to all arrive, the workers were super patient and let us explore the flavors. This visit was great, though sometimes unfortunately they don't have our favorite flavor espresso. If they don't, have what your looking for I'd suggest checking out the pre packed pints. Also the pints are a much better value, and if you're heading home after a stop here...just grab a pint or two and share them. As for parking, if you can't find something on 45th you can find some spaces on the side residential streets.

Yelp
Stopped by this place for a quick dessert. The gelato was really good. A bigger selection would have been great. The portion sizes were perfect.
