The Halal Rib Fest is coming to Dearborn this weekend | Eater Detroit

"Billed as North America’s largest festival focused on halal barbecue beef ribs, this event makes its U.S. debut September 29–October 1 at Fairlane Town Center. Founded in Toronto in 2023 and wrapping up a 20-city tour across Canada and the U.S., it will feature dozens of metro Detroit vendors selling ribs, other halal-friendly cuisine, and culturally relevant products. Organized by Eventzilla Group to fill a gap in halal offerings at mainstream food festivals, the gathering aims to create an inclusive experience where Muslim attendees can fully participate. Single-day tickets start at $5 ($3 for children under 18), with group and multi-day packages available." - Serena Maria Daniels

Unique mall. The crankshaft sculpture is pretty cool. Plenty of stores to choose from. I always also stop to get a bite at taco bell inside the food court. Forever 21 is closing. Macys and jc penny are also here. Get your shopping going at the fairlane mall!

I’ve been shopping at Fairlane Mall in Dearborn for decades. It used to be the place to shop, meet up with friends, and just enjoy the energy of the crowd. Over the years—especially after the pandemic—things have definitely slowed down, and it doesn’t have the same lively buzz it once did. At times, it even feels a bit like a ghost town. That said, Fairlane still holds a special place in my heart. I’ve made countless memories here over the years, and I still enjoy stopping by for a good deal on clothes and shoes. There’s something nostalgic and comforting about walking through a place that’s been part of your story for so long. Here’s hoping it gets a fresh revival one day!

Been coming here since the early 90s! Man so much has changed! Its a whole different vibe it’s not as busy and most store are closed but there are still some gems and it’s great place to get some steps in while doing quite shopping!

We had a ball. We visited Macy's and went to the MAC Counter. My girls got a make up tutorial and we went off to lunch. This was a good girl trip. They learned matching skin with proper colors In eyeshadow and blush. Skincare early Etiquette for young ladies. #whata last

Ok I’m super late posting this but I couldn’t find this young man’s store on google maps so I’m reviewing under the mall. But superb customer service skills. Shopping in Matari Cooper is definitely an experience everyone should have once. He has everything from Afrocentric clothing to Fedoras. A wide range of women and men sunglasses that are to die for. I promise you will walk away from there with more than one pair. Go check this brother out you will not be disappointed.

Once you get inside. The stores are fairly nice, most of them. I don't recommend visiting there during normal rush hour times if able. The traffic can be mighty frustrating! In my last week's visit, I also dealt with. A couple of areas are under construction. So recommend visiting during off hours, mid-morning, or late afternoon for less traffic and fewer shopping crowds.

Yelp
What has happened to Fairlane Mall is tragic. Anyone who shopped here in the 1980s and 1990s will remember when this was a bustling shopping center. I loved coming to Fairlane when I was a kid and running up and down the ramps. These days the only store worth visiting at this mall is Macy's and it's a fairly small location compared to the Macy's at other malls. Most of the mall is closed storefronts or cheap clothing stores. There aren't a lot of options at the food court either. It's only a matter of time until Fairlane closes down like so many other malls in the metro area.

Yelp
I hate to say it, but this mall is pretty much run down and dead. I love malls and always leave with something. Today, I left empty handed. This mall is three levels, but a lot of the retail spaces were empty. We did look in Footlocker, Hot Topics, Claire"s and Bath & Body Works. They did have a small food court, but we didn't see anything that we wanted to eat. Auntie Anne's and Taco Bell are there.

Yelp
I was searching for a particular item I found online. The discount area was messy, but I was able to locate the item. While hunting, a store manager came by and asked how I was doing and apologized for the mess, which I thought was nice. At check out, the salesperson was very personable and helpful. She was able to give me a discount for a flaw in one of the items I purchased. Very pleased overall.

Yelp
I don't understand this mall. It has an upstairs, but not really an upstairs, but has a middle that blends into the upper and lower. This mall doesn't really have any good stores in it at all. What is good about this mall? When you pull out of the parking lot.

Yelp
We attended the Suhoor Festival (during Ramadan on Fridays & Saturdays only 11pm-3am.) This experience was amazing! I am so glad we experienced this foodies dream! Get there early- the line starts around 10pm. There are over 50 food vendors, music, activities for the kids. We stuffed our faces and were out within an hour - and people were still in line pouring in. I can't wait for next year! This is located in the Sears Parking lot! $1 entry fee.

Yelp
I had five minutes to visit the store since everybody closes at 7 PM new pandemic and I was impressed by the architecture and the light flooding the center of the mall. Better than those artificial light malls. Plenty of parking outside. Same American stores you see everywhere at indoor malls all over USA

Yelp
I've never been a big mall fan but now that they're rapidly dying out it's kind of a nice novelty to see one with a high occupancy rate. Yeah, they're down an anchor store and that's vacant storefronts here and there but by 2022 standards Fairlane is bustling. There was a decent crowd around noon on Monday in January. I made a couple trips here recently, buying a new belt at JC Penney after my cheap Meijer bought belt broke and paying my phone bill at the T Mobile cause, well, I was just in the neighborhood. The layout is a bit confusing and the three levels kind of go back and forth between odd sub-levels but it does lend the place something of an epic, labyrinthine feel. And like any mall it's some huffing and puffing to get around but I much prefer this type of layout to the giant endless oval of Great Lakes Crossing. If I wanted to navigate a humongous paper clip I'd drive NASCAR. Fairlane has that classic Taubman feel, sharing many similarities to Lakeside, albeit with more actual business. The occasional sculpture, the glass elevator with track lighting, both shut down presumably to save money, the sunken lounge areas with large leather sectional sofas. Fairlane lost their fountain though, while I think Lakeside still has theirs? I don't know. That's for another review. The food court still has a few options but with so much good ethnic restaurants none was tempting enough for me to fork over some ducats and park my butt at a table. The giant chess set by the food court is a fun free novelty. If I'd been there with another chess player I'd definitely want to try it. On my JC Penney outing I made some small talk with a couple playing chess. It was her first time playing; she was learning on that board! And one of the queens was missing so they just had both sides play without a queen. Fortunately on my more recent visit the missing queen had re-emerged though the board sat unused. The AMC theater, done up to look like the Chinese Theater here, unfortunately closed recently. I've had issues with overly yappy moviegoers talking over the film there in the past but that's still a bummer. They did have an IMAX and I loved the architecture of the place. Word is the owners are looking for another chain to reopen the cineplex though I'm sure there would be a remodel first so it'll definitely sit unused for awhile. The giant vacant hotel at the edge of the lot looms like a white elephant, too. I think "Town Center" can be anything on the complex and not just the actual mall, right? So it would be nice if a new tenant(s) took that over. That mid century glassy modernist style of the past somehow looks extra depressing sitting there vacant. Did you know back in the day a monorail ran between there and the mall? There's malls I thought about reviewing on here but never did and they're gone or will be gone shortly. I do believe Fairlane is safe for the foreseeable future though. Put this in a time capsule to see if I'm right but I think it will actually still exist as a shopping center in 20 years. If it outlasts Great Lakes Crossing I'll be especially happy.

Yelp
I remember when this mall was a crown jewel back in the day, well not so much in today's time. A lot of the major anchor stores have left. They still have a JCPenney and Macys but that's it for large department stores. It used to be a nice flowing fountain in the middle but that's a wrap. They do have a MAC, H&M and a Forever 21 and all the athletic retail stores you could ever want. I believe the clientele is of a certain demographic targeting the younger adults and teenagers at this mall. I guess I will still come here for whatever odds and ends that I need. I'm usually here for shopping at Macys.

Yelp
This mall is huge and a bit confusing. There is some construction going on. It's not the easiest to find everything. Took me awhile to locate the "mezzanine" area without climbing a ton of steps. There are a number of ramps as well as stairs... And wifi is not the best -- tried to check into Macy's and couldn't. One of their escalators isn't working so you have to go to the very back of the store to take the elevator go down to the first level. That being said there are a lot of stores here and and they aren't very busy on an early Tuesday afternoon. The mall is big, clean, and modern as well as well lighted. There are a majority of women here with head coverings. So I'm a bit outnumbered but that should not intimidate you. Everyone is quite friendly.

Yelp
Lots of available parking, so if you have a decent car park far from the mall and enjoy the extra steps. We were there on a Saturday and the parking lot had a lot of cars not following the lines so go far if you do not want to leave with a door ding since all the cars crammed together looked like they've seen better days. The mall has a lot of empty stores, but a few decent ones. As long as the security keeps the general hanging out and loitering down to actual shoppers, it's not a bad place to look around. The inside is far nicer than the outside.

Yelp
I've been a regular at Fairlane since I was a child, and it is still my absolute favorite mall. It's a mighty three-floors high, with architecture that is far more interesting than a run-of-the-mill mall. There are plentiful ceiling windows that let in natural light, and wide walkways that never feel crowded. Although there are vacant spaces due to covid and other circumstances, there are still a variety of stores, including some unique ones that aren't found at any other mall.  The Forever 21 is enormous, and the H&M and Rainbow are quite large as well. The foodcourt has a nice variety, although some of the restaurants are now closed.  My husband and I often come here just to walk around/hangout on rainy or snowy days, as well as to shop. The newer art installations around the mall are fun to take pictures with/in front of as well. If you're looking for a small, super crowded shopping center with long lines, and people coughing all over you, I'd avoid Fairlane. Otherwise, give it a go!

Yelp
If your from Detroit or near Fairlane, you know how it usual is lol. But I went for the first time since last year March and wow they really cleaned this place up! With the new hours as well, I feel like people are just going in to get their items and leave. Not much hanging around and causing issues anymore. Stores are also staying organized

Yelp
This mall was surprisingly interesting. Just wrote another review to describe the "meh" experience going to Twelve Oaks Mall, which didn't differentiate itself from the hundreds of malls just like it across the USA, whereas Fairlane at least had some unique, or at least uncommon stores, especially for men's urbanwear which is something we were looking for. I think it was Pro Image Sports that had one of the biggest baseball cap wall we've ever seen! The internal architecture was interesting, too, not your average discretely-defined floors of shopping. There were still 3 distinct floors, but there were cool, sometimes circuitous, flows from floor-to-floor and at each end and pivot area (including sunken seating areas). Wasn't perfect, though. The internal flow may have been interesting, but it wasn't particularly accessibility-friendly with all the stairs and not enough elevators/escalators/ramps. Vending machines had limited options, and when we could have killed for a bottle of diet cola, the nearest machine wouldn't take any bills. The food court was large with great seating, but the washrooms there were a bit sticky. In other words, a little more effort in maintenance would have been appreciated. But overall, we'd go back!

Yelp
One of my favorite malls in the area. Conveniently located in the heart of Dearborn, the mall is easily accessible form Michigan Ave, Ford Road, Evergreen or the Southfield Fwy. And the mall serves as a central hub for all major bus routes. Major anchor department stores include Macy's, JC Penny's and Sears. There are super huge H&M, Forever 21 and Victoria Secret/Pink locations. And not to mention an easily accessible LA Fitness gym! In addition to the major stores, there are numerous smaller stores that sell everything your heat could desire from apparel to shoes to jewelry and more. There are also kiosks spread through the center walkways with a wealth of retail treasures. And let's not forget the AMC movie theater. The nearby Edward Hotel (formerly the Hyatt Regency), the Henry and Extended Stay Suites all share the parking lot with the mall. And there are a tremendous number of food choices as well including snacks like cookies, pretzels, donuts and ice cream to the traditional style food court, PF Changs and Starter's Bar and Grill inside the mall. And there's Beni Hana, Big Fish, TGIFriday's and A&W in the out lot.

Yelp
I am a shopper and I love to shop. I also am an educator and my passion and zeal for youth supercede even my desire to shop. In Detroit you hear the term school to prison pipeline. If you visit many of the schools you get a glance at what this term means. I never thought I would see this played out in the local shopping mall. I am all for the safety of the masses but I am not for ageism and possible racism. The mall has a rule that after 5 youth must be with an adult 21 and up. Or If I am not mistaken at least eighteen if you are alone. Ok. I get it somewhat. What I don't get is the way the mall feels more dangerous based on the way the mall cops are executing this curfew action. It feels like a prison sweep. Kids looking young are stopped several times.. my daughter is 19 and separated from me to go shop, and she is old enough to do so. She was stopped several times. Then my two teens who I had with me would sometimes look at a rack a few feet from me and here come the "cops." I told them in no uncertain terms to back off. Then I see three of them coming my way and I have to ask, "what is all this about, is the mall unsafe?" They tell me that you know how they are, they disrupt things and make it hard for everyone. Now mind you this is the same mall where an African American women with alleged mental problems allegedly tried to run cops over and the video to prove the shooting became lost and to this day has never shown up. So anytime someone says "they" I need clarification. The they were rowdy teens according to the police. I wish there could be a conversation on better ways to pursue safety. That is all.

Yelp
One of the many dying malls in America. Closes at 6 pm on Sundays which might be annoying but it's just as deserted before they close as after. They don't do themselves any favors by making it impossible to find your way out after closing. They lock all the doors and the guards go home. Good luck if you're parked on the wrong side of the mall and it's snowing.

Yelp
A fairly nice mall near where we were staying. They have a variety of activities that my family had participated during their recent stays here like promotion of walking! That's right! Walk around the mall with the kids and you get a small prize. I'm all for good walking. There's also a good set of stores for all your shopping needs.

Carolyn C.

Yelp
I was at the Fairlane mall today. It's close to my home, and I like the H & M there. I have only been to a few malls since we have re opened, but was very put off by the fact that masks are not enforced at this mall. Most of the people in the common area of the mall did not have them on, and even in the one store ( H & M) I was in, most of the customers had them pulled down at their chin. I work in a retail store ( not in a mall), and we strictly enforce the mask policy. I won't be coming back to this mall any time soon, if ever. Get a clue people! Do you want to be shut down again?

Abe F.

Yelp
Ahhhhhhhh... fresh weed and body odor in the air? You must've have found your way to the wonderful Fairlane Town Center. I don't understand how this mall stays open. Nobody there is actually shopping. Stores keep closing down. No big name stores. And the entire mall stinks... literally smells BAD! Man I hate this place.

Yelp
I had never been to Fairlane before, and went here during a blogger weekend recently. I was surprised by how nice it was, actually, and it seems to have a good selection of restaurants (PF Changs, etc) in addition to a food court. We had to do a "scavenger hunt" for the blogger weekend and the store clerks were very happy to let us take pictures inside the stores / with the merchandise, etc. which was nice. I'd come back to Fairlane if ever in the area. I live in Troy so I usually do Somerset or 12 Oaks over in Novi, but this mall seemed good too. They also do holiday exhibits for kids (and pictures with Santa).

Yelp
This is a great mall if you're like me and like wasting time walking around. The clientele isn't for everyone. But I always feel safe here. I prefer this mall over Southland, which is the mall I've known since I was a kid. Fairlane is spread out on multiple layers, so it's easy to meander if you're bored... or get lost. It also boasts an H&M and a Yankee Candle store, along with Express and Orange Julius. Those are pretty much the only places I visit. Honestly, I don't really come here to shop. I waste time at malls. If I want to shop, I go to Target. Fairlane is a cool mall for walking around, window shopping and people watching.
google avatar

Yelp
My family and I was here during a trip to Detroit. It's a very large and nicely set up mall with a good variety of stores to meet whatever needs you might have. Would be more than happy to shop here again when I'm in Detroit.

Yelp
I'm a fan of Fairlane. Although it's easy to get turned around, I love the layout here much better than the long, straight corridors of most malls. I feel like I wander a different path through the place every time I come, which adds a little variety even if I'm only stopping at the same five or ten stores each visit. There's a nice mix of large, national stores and some smaller, local shops. In the past couple years, I feel like the mall has done a good job of keeping the occupancy up - there aren't many vacant spots. The food court is well-stocked with exactly what you'd expect from a mall food court. Nothing surprising or outstanding, but definitely adequate. There are also a couple large chain restaurants on the perimeter of the mall and in the out-lots. I do like the evening curfew policy, in which minors must be accompanied by an adult after 5 or 6pm. I'm not a huge fan of squeezing my way past hundreds of loud, loitering middle-schoolers. Even during the holidays, the mall never seems too overcrowded. Maybe bad for business, but it's much less claustrophobic than GLC or the likes.

Dillon G.

Yelp
Me and a group of friends tried to go and shop at this mall and we were escorted out within 5 minutes even though we are 17 with jobs . I personally believe that the security guards there racially profiled us because we were some young black adults. We weren't there to start any trouble at all . And the mall was completely empty at around 5; what kind of " good "mall is empty around that time ? Just save your gas and go to another mall such as twelve oaks or Somerset because this mall is too strict on their policies even though its suppose to be a public area for shopping .

Tayion W.

Yelp
On the website and other sources the mall was said to be open till 6pm but when I arrived it was closed.

Z C.

Yelp
Uhh...is anyone home? This place was absolutely deserted when I went (8pm on a weekend). Awful assortment of stores, nothing name brand besides the Macy's and Sears which is shutting down. Food court had all off-brand restaurants in it (is it ridiculous to expect a Panda Express?). No point in shopping here, save your gas and go on Amazon Prime.

Yelp
3 reasons I come here: 1. Emagine movie theater: my husband and I enjoy coming here. They have a large movie selection, many theaters, and very spacious. 2. Le nails: this is where I get my nails done. I generally come out happy with the results and they're decently priced. 3. Forever 21: I love it, it's massive. It beats the Forever at Somerset anytime. This isn't a place I would come to just to walk around, their stores aren't the greatest.

Yelp
Having worked here for 6+ years I can't say I have much to complain about. Whenever I either work or shop here is a pretty good experience. There have only been a couple incidents that I can remember when things got out of hand with thieves or people who want to fight in the middle of the mall but that's not the mall's fault. It was the place my first job was at at 16 years old and hopefully now since I graduated college my career can grow here with about position at another store here.

Yelp
This mall used to be awesome back in the early 2000's but now it is like a ghost town. Also the stores def. Change so many sneaker stores and a beauty supply? They went down tremendously the food court is gross the food I ordered smelled like poop and tasted worst. I went up to ask what was wrong with the food he put his finger in it and explained what it was and handed it back to me. China wok!!!! Not to mention dirty tables.. nasty nasty nasty the bathrooms are disgusting. They need to shut down fairlane.most of the business left anyway.

Yelp
Everything about this mall sucks don't waste your time. I have never once found anything that I've been looking for at any store. Don't try to buy shoes at the Macy's because you're lucky if it only takes half an hour instead of 45 min to get service. Same with the make up counter. Many of the employees at any store are extremely rude and I have a terrible experience every time I go there
google avatar

Yelp
Fairlane is my drug...ummm, I mean, mall, of choice. There seems to be this unfounded perception that Fairlane is "rough" or "scary". My mom won't even go there unless it's at like 10am, and then she parks right by the door at Macy's and runs in. Trust me, it's not scary at all. They have everything you need, without the air of pretension that permeates 12 Oaks. Speaking of permeating, you won't leave this mall smelling like a guy in his late teens that sprayed on too much Axe, like you will at 12 Oaks. The thing that draws me to Fairlane is the employees. Every store or food stand I visit, I get great customer service. The kids in Hot Topic will discuss classic rock with you. The women in the Coach store know that if you are in there looking, you just might be buying, so they are pleasant and ready to help. The food court is "ok", with a Taco Bell, some kind of middle eastern food, and Kirby's Coney. They have a new "plaza" with a Bravo! and PF Changs, if you are in to those. So, if you live in Detroit Metro and have limited yourself to 12 Oaks, or (gasp!) Westland Mall, take a trip down Michigan Ave. and see what Fairlane is all about.

Yelp
It's a mall. Is it the best mall I've ever been to? Nope. Do I come here often? Nope. When I do come here, do I regret it? NOPE. It's not that bad. It's one of the closest malls to Detroit and close to the Detroit Metro Airport. Growing up, I came to Fairlane all the time. I have a soft spot in my heart for this place and its elevator which I thought was the FANCIEST THING EVER!!11! when I was 7 years old. Other reviewers look like white people complaining about the minority population that make up Dearborn and surrounding areas coming into the mall. Whatever. You can still get your exorbitantly priced Coach purse from Macy's and then get a $2 pair of earrings from Forever 21.

Yelp
I grew up going to Fairlane. I have many fond memories of shopping here with my mom when I was but a wee thing--hiding in the dress racks in Gantos (RIP 80s fashion), throwing pennies into the waterfall, and swearing up and down that I'd seen MC Hammer's back up dancers chillin' in the McDonald's at the height of "You Can't Touch This" popularity (probably just some other dude with a high top in the shape of a spade hair do). My first visit to Santa was here, my first job was here (The Gap--RIP), and I worked on and off at the Express here throughout college and a few years following. So yes, I have a soft spot in my heart for Fairlane. Sadly, this soft spot isn't enough to give this place appropriate love. With the exception of Macy's, Bath and Body Works, and The Body Shop there aren't many stores shop at here anymore. After 6 years of Express I'm burnt out on the store so I rarely go in and my days of American Eagle are over. I guess H&M was a nice addition but I haven't really responded well to their offerings in the last few years. Oh, there's also the DSW which I will visit from time to time but that's pretty much it. They really tried to turn the place around with the more formal food court and the additions of PF Chang's, Fuddrucker's and Bravo (higher end chain restaurants mostly there to cater to the Ford folks on lunch, I'm guessing). The food court was nice when I still worked there but without the retail to support it doesn't much matter. I'm not going to head out there to visit The Great Steak & Potato Co if I don't have any other reason to go to the mall. Hell, even Lord & Taylor is gone. The movie theatre was also an exciting addition but in the end I still prefer to go to Emagine Canton since I find it cheaper and cleaner. Sigh. I remember what you used to be, Fairlane and I'm sad for it. You and Westland mall used to be my high school hangs. Sadly there's not much of a reason to hang here anymore.

Yelp
I worked at this mall and I worked in the food court the place is called Chic Chic Inn and those people are the absolute worst. They are disrespectful and disgusting. I am only 15 in high school and still a teenager and I have other things to worry about and get mad if I call in not feeling well or I have something for school. They are super racist about who they hire to where that the woman who worked there called my school to assure that there was something going on. When I say racist I really mean racist, there have been many people that have come up to the court asking for a job and they were African American. Talk about rude. They sit there and complain how they don't have many workers when they have opportunities to hire people but they are just so racist. And pay to I was never paid on time I was either paid a week later or if I requested it early. Terrible. Absolutely terrible.

Yelp
I will freely admit that Fairlane leaves some things to be desired, but overall it is a good mall. One of the main reasons I go there is because it is only about a 15-minute drive from my house, or, if I am catching the bus, it does not take long for me to get there. I also happen to be a fan of H&M, and their stores are a bit far and few between. Thus, Fairlane, at bare minimum, offers me that much. Fairlane offers quite the selection of both chain stores and independent retailers. Also, because the mall is quite accessible to many distinct neighborhoods of Detroit and many surrounding suburbs, the clientele is quite diverse. That being said, there is a little of something for everyone in there. If you are looking for the latest fashions, they have quite a few stores geared toward younger clientele. Their food court also has quite a variety, but many of the good dining establishments are around the perimeter of the mall campus. As far as the mall itself goes, walking it can be a bit challenging, especially on a day your energy level is low. There are many level changes in this mall, so at times, you may need to access a ramp or stairs to reach one of your favorite stores. Also, at times, crowds tend to congregate in its corridors, so it is best to go when it is not busy.

Yelp
On 2/6/18 I needed a new phone. Going back to flip phones my wife and I have been happy at Wireless Solutions Center in Fairlane Mall so I went back. This time I was helped by Sade', who laid out the iPhone choices. I don't need the fastest processor and the camera on the SE is good so that's what I got. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient with my questions. Then she started the cloud thing, transferring all the photos, texts, voluminous contact info, etc. into the new phone. But what if all that stuff vaporizes? A lot was riding on this, like getting a blood transfusion at a hospital. I sat down and read for a few minutes. Soon Sade' handed over the finished product and everything was there. Happy camper ever since. This is a good example of the service here.

Yelp
I've been wanting to learn more about the people of Dearborn and see them in their natural habitat. Where else to learn more than a sociology exhibit aka the mall? This mall actually looks pretty decent compared to other malls in other cities. I've noticed that this is similar to the mall designs in the Chicago suburbs with the crazy emphasis on ramps going to different floors. And even with the walkability of this mall, people still choose to use the elevators. Come on. I guess it's too much to ask that people get a little exercise. It's a shame though that the mall is so empty even on a weekend. When I was a kid, during those poor years that my father affectionately refers to as the "rice and soy sauce years", we used to go to the mall a lot just because it was free. All of the stores one can expect are here such as Sears, Macy's, Lids, Champs, and so on and so forth. There is also a food court as well as a movie theater adjacent to the mall. I also like how there is a Fuddruckers and a Fuddruckers Express. And what mall is complete without an Orange Julius? Not a bad place to kill a few hours on a weekend.

Yelp
First of all, um, fellow reviewers, it's not hard to pick up what you're puttin' down about "the clientele" or whatever, and it doesn't make you look like a very decent person. Anyway, Fairlane is fine. I love the layout (my sister calls it "Hogwarts", haha), and there are a ton of stores, and a lot of variety, though nothing particularly unique. This mall is very close to my house, and it's nice to have so many stores close. The H&M is pretty good, and the Forever 21 has better stuff and is cleaner than the one at Southland. Recently, it seems like a lot of cheap "boutique" stores have moved in, which is a bummer, because the stuff they sell seems on par with the crap you could get it Gibralter Trade Center. Also, I like this mall better early on week days, because it's teen central after a certain hour, despite the curfew. The restaurants are pretty typical also. Bravo is like a slightly better version of Olive Garden, but they have really good eggplant parm, PF Changs f's up my order every time I go in there, I think there's a decent Chinese buffet in there too--not as greasy as many others. The food court is pretty good, and large compared to other malls in the area. This isn't the fanciest mall, and all things being equal wouldn't be my first choice, but it's close, and sufficient. Not too shabby.

Yelp
Fairlane, unfortunately, isn't as good as it used to be. - the tri-level layout is confusing and a little ridiculous - a number of the stores I used to like, have left - other stores in here are just a little messier, less selection, less cared for etc than the same store in a different mall - loiterers (mostly teens, but even adults too) are in full effect here, all the time Fairlane still works to run in, run out, and get what you need...but the days of it being a nice place to spend an afternoon are gone.

Yelp
(F-) Basically this place has the worst lay out ever. There could possibly be 3 or 4 floors that start & stop randomly. Store selection is awful! Suffered through many Murtaugh moments working my way thru the crowds. The parking lot is a nightmare, why were people just walking slowly in the middle of the rows!?!? One Star... (Looking back @ it: decent food court, H&M + an awesome Guess store (kinda dark & brooding as opposed to Somerset's bright & frilly b.s. - pricing is very good)

Yelp
When I worked downtown, Fairlane was a quick 15 minute drive for lunch. Now it's a quick 5 minute walk. Trouble! As I mostly shop there during the day, the crowds are minimal. The store highlights for me are DSW, MAC, H&M and Forever 21. The H&M is as larger or possibly larger than the one at Great Lakes Crossing. The mall also has a nice food court, a Starbucks, a movie theater, a Ballys Total Fitness Gym, and now a PF Chang's and a Bravo Italiana Cucina. I fully expect there to be a three hour wait at both those restaurants.

Yelp
Nice mall. Clean with nice boutiques for the shopping enthusiast that wants something different and avoid dept stores for that reason. I'll certainly go back to the mall when I'm visiting the area. Next time I'd like to try the food court.

Yelp
Updated review-I've been in Michigan a year now, and I've visited all 3 malls in the area. This has to be the worst one, not just because of the lack of variety and stock in the stores, but also because of the shoppers at this mall. I've been here maybe 10 times (briefly), and I've been in almost 2 physical fights with aggressive patrons. The vibe here is just terrible, and this is also in comparison to other malls in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. Others I've told about this mall say that they've had the same or worse experiences. Gangs of unruly teens, bad mannered adults and other elements make it almost impossible to shop in peace. No thanks, I'll take the half hour drive to Twelve Oaks or Somerset when I want to spend my money. I tried to make my own opinion about this place after hearing so many horrible things, but I have to agree that this mall is a very lowly place that is just not worth the trouble.

Yelp
Hmmmm.... I recently visited Fairlane to return merchandise to their H&M. The parking lot was dismal! Before stepping into this place, I was immediately "hit on" by a man with absolutely NO SWAG. I thought to myself... "ahh... this is Fairlane-- it's what I basically grew up on" meaning, my friends and I would be dropped off by one of our parents and went on a "number search". That was our fun "back in the day." But now, there are strict rules and enforcements for those under 17. I agree with another reviewer, that many stores cater to the urban population (it would be unfair for me to say African American, being that I live in Plymouth and there are Caucasian skater boys who sag their pants and wear hats to the back or cocked to the side). Since I am a business casual dresser 90% of the time, I would rather purchase from stores specializing in pencil skirts and ruffled blouses. This just isn't my type of place to shop. It once was, but things just aren't the same anymore. :)

Yelp
Somewhat confusing three-level layout. Macy's and JC Penney anchor. Generally terrible mall food. Else there's a PF Chang and a classy Italian restaurant outside.
