Food Cart Pods Aren’t Inspected as Closely as Food Carts, and According to Cart Owners, It Shows - Eater Portland

"In less horrifying food cart pod news, East Multnomah County is in the midst of a food cart pod boom, the Oregonian reports. Right around the time Fairview Food Plaza planted its giant fork sculpture at its entrance." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
Stopped by Fairview Food Plaza on the way back from The Gorge in search of chicken wings. Found some good, dry rubbed Cajun ones at Mr. Sabroso’s, which also looks to have some other good Cajun boils. There’s a myriad of options though, mostly based on Asian cuisines. The atmosphere is pretty family friendly, with some yard games outside a full bar and taphouse in a hybrid indoor/outdoor hall, complete with a massive TV that was playing international soccer. The tap list is basic but decent and cheap. This’ll be a regular stop for me.

Fairview Food Plaza has an awesome selection of food carts—every time I’ve been here, the food has been great. There’s a nice variety, and everything I’ve tried over multiple visits has been delicious. It’s a solid spot for grabbing a good meal. That said, the indoor seating area could use some improvements, especially when it comes to the bar. On my most recent visit, the bartender who served us was surprisingly rude and clearly had a bad attitude. It really took away from the experience. If you're going to have a bar as part of the plaza, the service there should match the high quality of the food. Unfortunately, this bartender was not up to the task and probably isn’t suited for that kind of role. Overall, I’ll be back for the food—but I’ll steer clear of the bar next time.

Variety of food offerings were beyond expectations. All food carts were clean and well-maintained. Parking seems to be adequate, and there is a mini playground for small children. All pricing seems to be fair, something for every budget. The grounds are also well kept - no loose trash left out to clutter tables or walkways.

The Fairview Food Plaza is large with plenty of space to walk around without crowding over people that are seated eating. Fairview Food Plaza has ample seating indoors and out with a good variety of food provided by food carts. The plaza has a great bar service inside to accompany your meal. Easy access driving or vi public transportation

We had Burgers from Sammy's Smashburgers, Green apple green tea and a mango chamoy from Bobablastic and onion rings from Briskets & Gravy and I was NOT disappointed. The burgers were amazing and the onion rings had a ton of flavor. Also loved the drinks. Definitely recommend.

I didn't take pictures of all the food carts (regrettably), but here are a few from my visit on August 25, 2022. There is an incredible array of food varieties. Pricing was a dollar or two on the higher end of the spectrum than where it should be, but I'm guessing it is due to the cost they are being charged for the space. This is a great place to head if you are undecided on what to eat.

First time trying this set of carts, I really like the variety and the heated enclosed area for everyone to eat in that has I believe a bar in it. Also the outdoor games are a nice addition. Each cart gives you a beeper for when your food is done and it was pretty quick

Yelp
I really like The Fork. There's ~12 carts here and I've enjoyed the six or seven I've tried. Inside is nice and clean. Pretty good selection of drinks, plenty of tables. It's never as busy as the Troutdale pod (nor is it as big) which I think is a positive, food tends to come pretty quick and it's not hard to find a spot to sit.

Yelp
A decent food cart pod with a variety of offerings. Unfortunately, the Hawaiian cart seems to be closed every single time I visit. There are outdoor benches and indoor benches with a bar inside. The tables are clean, as is the entire pod. Having come back, I'm excited to see a Scandinavian food cart. I was wanting something a bit more familiar today, so I'll be back to try their goodies soon. There's an astroturf area with giant connect 4 & jenga, which the kiddos seemed to love. You can't go wrong with an all day breakfast cart or boba & desserts.

Yelp
This place has a bunch of different food, and a nice open picnic kind of vibe. Lots of seating at tables in the center of the room. It's like a mall food court, remember those? with all the seating in the middle and the food places surround. There a lot of places to pick from, but Flavors of India is the best food I've ever had. Hands down, their food is fresh and they make the naan to order! It's the only thing I crave now. There are other places open, and they have excellent stuff too - but oh man, the Flavors of India is the best food place I've found. Like ever. Trust me get the garlic naan, and their samosas (make sure and get extra Tamarind sauce, you will love it with the garlic naan). Their Chana Masala is also delicious, they can make it extra spicy if you are daring like me! Very yummy, to show you how yummy - I'll be moving to Salem, Oregon in a few months. I'm planning on returning here at least once a month to get this food. It's an hour drive, each way, and I don't even have to think about it. That's how much I love their food.

Yelp
I visit the Fork once a week or so, and have tried many of the carts. The food is always good. This pod is less than a year old, and so I expect things to only get better in the near future. The trash cans are usually full, and as for ambiance, someone has driven over the rocks and planters in the parking lot. But everyone is friendly, and service has always been good.

Yelp
Lowering to 2 stars after a visit on Friday at 5 pm -- not-so-happy hour. As usual, many of the carts were closed, but we ordered from the Korean Teriyaki cart and the Swede. Once inside to wait for food buzzers, we found out that wine is no longer sold! There were only 2 choices of wine before, but now nothing but beer, cider, and alco-pops. The vendor said "people didn't like wine in cans." Solution? No wine at all. Bad decision! The Swedish Elk Stew was delicious, though a bit pricey at $13 for a bowl. The Chicken Teriyaki was very uninspired (chicken, white, rice, teriyaki sauce dumped on top). It was a large portion. We won't go back. The Troutdale food carts are so much better for adult beverages, food choices and quality, and atmosphere.

Yelp
So I pass this place every time on my way to Target and today was the day I decided to stop and see what it was all about. Parking: There is a small parking lot that's accessible from Halsey and Arata which is pretty nice. It's not huge but it has enough stalls for a decent amount of cars. I'm not sure if there's street vendors there everyday or perhaps it's just a Sunday thing but there were quite a few selling things from coffee to jewelry to other random things along with the food carts. The food cart area is nice with a large seating area. So far this place is checking all the boxes, decent parking, street vendors, large seating area so why the 3 stars? Only about half the carts were actually open. I get it maybe because it's Sunday or whatever and I'm just going to guess the street vendors there might be a weekend type event. I was there around 12ish so it's not like it was 930 in the morning and it's not like I was the only one there because there was quite a few people walking around. *shrug* I'm not one to judge when things should be open or closed but I do feel like it's a huge missed opportunity for those closed carts. This place could be rocking if the carts were on the same page but from my first experience it seems like a miss.

Yelp
I had to find the fork and after all the hoopla, expected a great selection of carts. Nope. Hardly anything is there, and not everyone was open. We have 4 to choose from. The Scandinavian cart is Amazing! Love the ladies there. Try their sliders. Very much enjoyed. Wanted Hawaiian, they have strange hours, so took a few tries to get them. It was so disappointing. The Spam was not available -- the entire reason I wanted them. There was only 1 option, the pork plate, it was so uninspired. Need to add a lot more carts to have much draw.
