The 11 Best Vegetarian Restaurants In Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Built in the shell of what was almost definitely a Sonic Drive-In, Falafel Burger is a Mediterranean takeout restaurant close to Cedar Park serving great falafel. Instead of finding it on a bed of rice or greens, here it comes in wraps, tacos, and burgers. Contrary to the name, they offer more than just falafel here—all of the burgers and tacos can also be made with kofta kebab or chicken breast—making this an extremely meat- or vegan-friendly spot where nobody will feel like they’re compromising." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

The 13 Best Mediterranean Restaurants & Food Trucks In Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Built in the shell of what was definitely a Sonic Drive-In, Falafel Burger in Cedar Park serves our favorite falafel in town—it’s hot and crunchy on the outside, with a soft, warm middle, and it’s especially fun in burger form. And they offer more than just falafel here—all of the burgers and tacos can also be made with kofta kabob or chicken breast. Much like at its Sonic predecessor, everything here is packaged to go and well-equipped for eating in your car, but there’s also a small patio with a few tables out front." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs

Falafel Burger Review - Anderson Mill - Austin - The Infatuation

"Built in the shell of what was almost definitely a Sonic Drive-In at one point, Falafel Burger is a Mediterranean restaurant in Cedar Park serving some of the best falafel in town. But instead of finding it on a bed of rice or greens, here you’ll find it in wraps, tacos, and burgers.  Contrary to the name, you’ll find more than just falafel here. Chickpeas, kofta kabobs, and chicken breast all share a playing field here. But you’re here for some of the best falafel in the Austin area. Crispy, with a soft and savory center, they play surprisingly well with classic burger toppings and a dollop of tahini sauce. Add cheese if you’re not sticking to a vegan diet—it adds just a little oomph to it all—but either way, accompany it with a side of za’atar fries, served piping hot.  There’s no dining room here, so plan to eat on the outdoor patio, or in the front seat of your car in one of the not-Sonic drive-in booths. Then pick up an order of pistachio or walnut baklava for later, and see if you can make it home before you finish the whole thing. " - Nicolai McCrary

Google
Had lunch here on a day of running errands, and so glad we decided to try it out! We really enjoyed all the food and flavors, and we took other reviewers advice and had the lemon mint smoothie too :) We had chicken shawarma and a musakhan chicken sandwich. Both sandwiches were excellent and we got the combos with za’atar fries and Cajun fries and we were very happy with both. We got the special sauce on the side and that was great for the fries. We ate on the patio (this location is in an old Sonic building). It was a bit windy and near the road, but it was worth it to eat everything fresh. The service was prompt and very friendly. We will definitely be back!

Google
Excellent restaurant and excellent service! I’ve eaten here many times and it is always delicious! The Falafel Burger is very filing, their fries are well seasoned, and the staff is very kind. 100% worth a visit

Google
This shawarma was absolutely delicious! The meat was perfectly seasoned, juicy, and tender. The sauce was rich and flavorful, adding the perfect touch of creaminess. Every bite was satisfying and full of flavor. So good, I’d happily order it again!

10/10 everyone who works there is so sweet and kind. The food is so yummy!! The falafel burger is so juicy without being greasy and I don’t feel gross after eating it. Sooooooo yummy. The shish tawook sandwich is yummy Even the bathrooms are clean!

Google
This place was amazing! The owner was super helpful with suggestions & all the food is Halal & made fresh daily. This used to be the old sonic off 620 so there’s only outdoor seating available but the food makes it all worth it. Come out & try some authentic Arabic food today!

Google
I wanted to quickly share my experience here at falafel burger. We have been here a few times so far and have an amazing experience every single time! Abdul is super nice and friendly, the food is fresh every time and the vibes are awesome! Highly recommend everyone to visit

Google
This place is the bomb.com Came here blindly, the falafel is soooo good. I’ve had falafel all over the world, and this is on point! Another guest was telling us how much he’s addicted to this place, took his recommendation on the Mint Lemon smoothie, OMG SO GOOD. Abdul has such great hospitality too, place deserves a line everyday!

Google
The food here was so good !!! I live at the domain and this place is like 15 min sways from me & was on the way home from the lake so we stopped because we heard it was good. Abdul and whoever else was here was great. Great service , great food. We had the chicken shawarma wraps. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped here yesterday on a whim, knowing nothing about the place, and were delighted with our food. I had an excellent chicken shawarma wrap with Cajun fries, and my wife had a fatoush falafel salad, which she really enjoyed. I had a bite of her falafel, and it was perfectly done, hot and crisp on the outside. My shawarma wrap was very tender and juicy, with a really flavorful sauce. We were very impressed, and we will be back.

Yelp
Amazing!! We just finished up a late baseball game and even though they were about to close they were so kind and accommodating and was happy to take our order. We got the Beef shawarma, falafel wrap, chicken shawarma, spicy hummus, pistachio baklava, and walnut baklava.... Every single dish was incredible! We are very familiar with shawarma and very critical and picky- this was so fresh, even at 10pm, the ingredients were fresh and exploding with flavor! The location looks like an old sonic drive thru that is converted but the kitchen is well lit and visible to all, clean and bright and the staff was so gracious and gave five star service. We had the food in our hands so quickly and couldn't wait to devour it based on the aromatic smells taunting us on our drive back to the hotel. Thank you soooooo much for staying open a little later so we cooks experience the deliciousness! We might have to return once more before we hit the road home. Will be dreaming of shawarma & baklava tonight!

Yelp
Wanted to try something near by that was different and discovered this wonderful hidden gem! Upon arrival, you park in one of the spots like Sonic and scan the QR to order in your phone, then simply pick it up at their window. In our case, they handled our food/drinks with SOO much care and brought it out to us. We decided to get out of the car and just eat at the outdoor seating (everything was well maintained/cleaned) under shaded area. I ordered Kofta Cheeseburger Combo with raspberry tea and their Zaatar fries. Everything was hot and freshly made-to-order by their very friendly staff! Never been to this place, so they were kind to offer for me to try their falafel. I usually am one to hold off on falafel, since I am picky on the taste of it usually being too herbal for myself. Once I took a bite of their falafel, then I was very impressed!! Crispy, not dry, freshly made, and delicious! The Zaatar fries are like seasoned fries and they were good especially with the special sauce. My raspberry tea was a bit sweet for myself, but it was still pretty good. The location is super easy to drive into and park to enjoy some yummy food! They have vegan options as well, so everyone can enjoy this local business.

Yelp
Every time I've seen this place, I kept thinking to myself that "oh I'll go next time" or "I'll definitely go soon but not right now". If anything like this has ever applied to you, just go somewhere and try it. In my case, I can honestly say that I wish I had gone sooner. I'll start off with this right off the bat: not a fan of Mediterranean food, and I was gonna be hesitant going in. But my wife and I saw this place being mentioned on TikTok, and we finally ended up going. The person in the review mentioned getting the grouper wrap and or the falafel wrap. So that's what my wife and I did. She got the falafel and I got the grouper. We both loved it so much. For the grouper, it had a really great taste for the fish and came with a great spicy sauce inside the wrap as well! For my wife, her falafel wrap was incredibly tasty and she loved the french fries on the side. Each combo comes with fries, even though our wrap already had fries inside it, and I ended up getting Cajun fries. And let me tell you those were great too! We couldn't sit outside at the time since it was freezing, but going through the drive thru and we got the food pretty fast considering our order. I can already seeing myself going again, and I literally said so once we were done eating. If you were ever hesitant on going, please go. This place needs more attention from other customers!

Yelp
Yummy! My husband and I live right down the road from this place. It's been open for a while now and we kept telling ourselves we were gonna try it, but never did. Until now. And I'm glad we did! The guy who works there and took our order was nice. It was really cold and he told us to get back in our car instead waiting in the cold and then come around to the drive through and he'd give us our food there. Husband got a grouper wrap and I got the falafel wrap. Both got combos which came with fries and a drink. The prices are solid! The food was delicious and the portions are HUGE. I think next time I'll order an extra sauce on the side bc all the sauce was on the side of the veggies and the falafel side was slightly dry. But it wasn't a deterrent. Everything was filling and honestly the fries were so good i barely dipped them in ketchup bc I didn't think it needed them! Hah. We'll be back. Glad we finally gave this place a shot! :)

Yelp
Best Falafel burger in Texas! We were visiting Austin looking for vegetarian options and came across this little fast food place. When I tell you the food , all of it was the most delicious food I've had in a ver long time I'm serious. The customer service was excellent and the food was fresh , hot and quick. I'd highly recommend this establishment. I'd give 10 stars if I could.

Yelp
The food was delicious and service was super fast. Perfect meal for takeout! I want to try everything else on the menu too.

Yelp
Chicken Shawarma 10/10. Very yummy and very nice place. The special sauce is amazing as well. Definitely highly recommend.

Deborah G.

Yelp
Beef and Chicken Shawarmas are amazing, but the highlight of this family run business is the people and service. Never been happier to support such a great restaurant with the nicest people running it. Its in a converted sonic, with easy order and pick up, convenient to 620/anderson mill with good music on the patio. 10/10 recommend

Yelp
This spot is underrated, a must try! Old Sonic spot turned into Falafel Burger. I've been wanting to try this place as I've seen some good reviews. So my husband and I preordered 2 beef shawarma wraps online for pick up. Then we just decided to eat on the spot in the car while food's hot. I was pleasantly surprised bc they gave us lots of napkins and gloves! The wrap had also so much beef! Definitely recommend for meat lovers. I personally would have liked little more balance between meat & veggies, but who can complain about too much meat. Next time I'll get their salad too. I'd definitely come back!

Isabella L.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING. We live in the area and tried this spot for the first time today. Sensational. So flavorful. The staff is so kind. The drive thru is very convenient. 10000/10. We'll be back soon! Everyone must try this spot!! We had the chicken Shawarma wrap, the kofta wrap and the zar tar fries.

Brahim A.

Yelp
I had their Falafel Burger, it's a new concept that was done very well and was ver delicious

Noah W.

Yelp
Me and my wife love eating here! They have delicious burgers and Wraps. Also a friendly atmosphere! I would definitely recommend this place!

Paula L.

Yelp
This place took over the old Sonic. It was a little strange since they didn't take down the car park or drive through. But I found the drive though to be pretty convenient. They had a selection of wraps, sandwiches, and burgers. We tried the falafel and kafta wrap. The portions were super generous and flavors on-point. The fries it came with could be fresher but overall, everything was delicious! Great value for the portion size.

Rustin R.

Yelp
Today we finally had time to stop and try it and we were not disappointed! When it comes to falafel in Austin you have plenty of options for ones that taste boring and not fresh. Here you get freshness so good you can taste the herbs in the mixture for the Falafel. I tried the double falafel special! It was a Koufta/falafel combo! Biggest burger I've had in forever and for the price it's well worth it. The Zaatar fries are so unique and the sweet potato fries are second to none. The chicken taco 3 pack could feed a family! And don't get me started on the sauces! So unique and fresh. Worth the stop!

Yelp
I love this place I've been looking for authentic Mediterranean food in this place delivers. The owner of super nice the services amazing and the food tastes delicious. I highly highly recommend this

Yelp
we were driving through austin on a road trip and this was a great stop to get food. i got the falafel cheeseburger salad and it didn't say it came with fries and it did so that was a nice surprise, i just wish they had put the fries on the side or in a different container instead of on top of the salad lol but it was very good
google avatar

Edgar S.

Yelp
I . Ordered the spicy hummus which was phenomenal and so was the eggplant babaghanushi hope I spelled that right. The beef Sharwma was ok. The service was really friendly. The only thing I didn't like was that their hummus and eggplant says you get pita bread with the order but you don't. You get a flour tortillas!! Which was lame as hell!!!!! 3.5 out of five.
google avatar

Ramon S.

Yelp
I pass by this place weekly and finally had a chance to try it out. I had the chicken shawarma and it was good. The service was good and they were polite.
google avatar

Ian M.

Yelp
We ordered the falafel tacos and wrap (combo) with beet tabouki salad. And of course, baklava. All were superb! Many of the places I've been to, the falafel was bland and dry. Not here. Soft and full of flavor! The salad was shareable and hit the spot with the parsley overload. For the baklava... well, I'm surprised I scavenger a bite before my wife inhaled it. The business os owner operated and our order was taken without any rush. Our order was made on the spot, so it gave us a few minutes to chat at the outdoor tables. Super friendly staff. Did I mention it's got a drive through? Will be coming back here again :)

Yelp
For a month I started seeing advertisements for falafel burger, since I love Middle Eastern food, I had to try it. I took the drive down 620 and found it rather easily. Pulled into a parking spot and headed toward the front door. To my surprise it was just a ordering window. It looks like it used to be an old ice cream shop, so no indoor seating. Inside was just the kitchen to make all of the Middle Eastern food . I ordered baba ganoush, a Kofta burger, and a Kunafa. If I remember correctly, it was just a little over $15. And I thought for those items it was worth it. I took one of the outside tables close to the ordering window. Only one other table had people at it. It was may be about 10 minutes and my food was ready . I picked it up at the window and headed to my car to take it home. Once home, I wanted to try the baba ganoush first. So I looked for pieces of pita so I can dip it in, that's when I realized they gave me tortilla instead of pita. So using the tortilla, I dipped to try the baba ganoush. It turned out to be delicious and a huge portion. Next step was the kafta burger, when I lifted the burger container out of the bag. My first thought was this is heavy. That burger weighed a ton. So I decided to cut it in half and just eat half of it. That was the plan, but it was so good. Once I finished half I dove into the second half . I was so full I decided to hold off on the Kunafa until later. I'd have it for dessert after dinner. It wasn't the best Kunafa I have ever had it it still was tasty. I think the next time I'm going to try the falafel burger since that is what they're famous for

Yelp
One of the most creative and interesting restaurants in the nation. Please support this business so we can make this restaurant a local place around all of America. This restaurant is quality food and some of the most friendly staff you will ever meet. Would absolutely go back.

Ximena S.

Yelp
We ordered food for the family on our way back from a day trip... Falafel Burger did NOT disappoint! The falafel burgers with seasoned fries (cajun and zaatar) were delicious. The fatoush falafel salad is a meal on its own, the dressing was tangy (on the sour side), a great compliment for the falafel. My falafel wrap just as good! (And huge, I saved half for later lol). The babaghanoush is smoky with a hint of tanginess and taste of olives (from the oil), delicious! (I wish they served it with some form of flat bread instead of buns though). We also tried the falafel taco, delicious! The finishing touch was dessert... crispy fresh, perfectly sweet baklava. The service was friendly and patient, he answered all the questions we had about our order and the food came wrapped neatly. We will definitely visit again and explore more from their wide selection of food (just in case you are wondering, there are also plenty of meat based dishes).

Adam H.

Yelp
Sorry, Austin, but this food is nasty. Unless you like watered down, unsalted, tasteless hummus, a small scoop of barely chopped, unsalted tabouli with almost no wheat served on top of huge romaine leaves to hide how small the portion was, or unsalted falafel. I won't call the falafel flavorless, because it was clear that they used the same oil as their fried grouper sandwich---so it tasted like fish. Oh, and the bread served with the hummus is a single sliced up, non-homemade burrito tortilla. Barf. My door dash service was great though. Delivered so no ambiance to speak of, but I'm assuming it's difficult to find any salt inside the restaurant. BYOS, yall! 30 years of eating Med food and this is at the bottom of the list. It was in the trash can at the street in less time than it took to deliver.
google avatar

Neeharika P.

Yelp
Food-wise, this place is a 5/5. We got the kofta burger, Cajun fries and chicken shawarma. Everything was delicious, and the meat was tender and perfectly seasoned. Pickup was fairly quick too. The 1 star docked is solely for the location because it truly sucks. The restaurant is at the corner of the terrible FM 620 and Anderson Mill junction. You'll spend ages getting in and out. Apart from the location, this is a great bite of food - will be back to try the fusion tacos.

Tracie S.

Yelp
Ok so this place should have a wait around the corner!!!!' The hot dog was to die for,,, the knafa is amazing staff is so sweet... can't wait to come back. WHOA the chicken and beef shawarma are over the top so delicious!!!! This place is in my top places to go.

Jonah r.

Yelp
So so good, best schwarma I've had, customer service was amazing and food came out quick. Highly recommend.

Aracelli S.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I sometimes drive a hour to get a lemon and mint smoothie and some chicken Gyro. Service is very friendly and the quality of the food is 10 out of 10.

Laith T.

Yelp
Amazing food and even better service. This place should be busy 24/7!! Go check them out!! The best shawarma for such cheap prices compared to others

Yelp
I have wanted to try this place for a while, AND was super hungry all day, so I was really looking forward to it. Got home and opened the box to see a few things; it's bigger than expected, probably a foot long, or close to it (this was a welcomed surprise). French fries were good, sweet tea was good, but the description says the eggplant and cauliflower are both fried. We can see here that the eggplant was not fried at all, but was soft/soggy like it had been cooked in some way. The cauliflower was fried. I don't necessarily love fried food, but I do love eggplant Parmesan, so I anticipated this being warm eggplant and cauliflower with lettuce, cucumber, and tomatoes...etc. There is a picture of it on the menu. This is not what they have pictured at all, also had onions on it, and the entire thing was cold-the cauliflower and eggplant were actually chilled all the way through, as if it was just sitting in the fridge all day. I ended up eating most of the bread because it was good, but I'm really sad about the sandwich being so far from what I think were normal expectations. I really hope improvements are made and that this place sticks around because I do love Greek/Mediterranean, and was excited to have it so close to home, especially with a drive through.

Layla I.

Yelp
they have the best beef shawarma in all of austin for sure. best i've ever tried anywhere actually
google avatar

Odell W.

Yelp
I ordered the ground beef Cheese burger combo.... 1 word to describe the cheeseburger PHENOMENAL!
google avatar

Dianne T.

Yelp
Food was really good. I had a cheese burger with special sauce. It was so good, cooked really well and had a great taste. The fries were also really good very fresh. Service was great. We ordered online and just sat in the drive through waiting for the order which was like 15 minutes so not bad at all.on w it was ready the guy came out and let me know so I could pick it up at the window. The place also has outdoor seating which we will do next time. I will totally come back and try some more of the menu items.

James T.

Yelp
We stopped at Falafel Burger on a trip to Austin. We are so happy that we did. The stand was very clean. The falafel burger was moist, not over cooked or over seasoned. It was delicious. In addition, the baklava was the best I have had. You can tell that it was handmade. Please support small businesses like Falafel Burger. We will be back!
google avatar

Linda B.

Yelp
Fresh delicious food from a family owned business with very friendly owners. This is a new restaurant on 620 near Anderson Mill.
google avatar

Bita S.

Yelp
We enjoyed the falafel and Kofta sandwiches. Fresh food, great customer service. Very nice and clean.
google avatar

Justin H.

Yelp
Quick and friendly counter service. Nice covered patio with clean tables and chairs. Plenty of parking. No indoor seating (it used to be a sonic). But if it's too hot you can eat in your car under the covered stalls. Non-veg options available (chicken and beef shawarma added recently). Good flavor.
google avatar

Raidan J.

Yelp
Just WAW! Best sandwish in Austin, HUGE and under $10... I ordered the Kafta Wrap, forgot to take a pic it was that good

Shea B.

Yelp
This is a new restaurant. My daughter and I were out and about and saw that they had a falafel burger. We were so excited because as a vegetarian there are so few options for us while we are in the car. Falafel burgers and wraps are such a healthier option than the beyond beef. The desserts are handmade too...delicious! This restaurant is going to be a hit. I predict they will have a ton of locations all over Austin one day! It's in the old sonic location on 620 near Anderson Mill, across from HEB. You must go!
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
Great food at a great price. I love falafel and I have never heard of a falafel burger but OMG was it delicious! I strongly recommend their house made fry sauce!!!
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
This place is a gem! Just tried it for the first time and will definitely return. The falafel wrap is delicious and huge! The babaganoush was outstanding as well as their side sauces. Met one of the owners, Laith, super nice guy with great customer service! Looking forward to trying other things on the menu.
google avatar

Rain S.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this place. Ordered a variety of items and was happy with everything except the baklava. The baklava was dry and so I wouldn't order it I. The future. I would recommend ordering the hummus, it was really good and they give you a large portion! I'll definitely be returning.

Bryana C.

Yelp
I love this place! The portions are big and the chicken shawarma is top tier! I have to cut it in half because it is that big, which is perfect for meal prep for lunch the next day. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Mcnamara D.

Yelp
Great food and fast, but not fast food. They took over an old Sonic and what a great concept. Had a salad and falafels and everything including my smoothie were perfect ! A great local business, get out and support them !!!

Harvey R.

Yelp
Went back again today. This is the second time that we ordered the Kofta burger. Flavor was still very good. Unfortunately, it was about a 30% smaller patty at the same price. Not happy that shrinkflation is affecting this place. I would much rather you raise the price and keep the portion size as they were last year.

Donna N.

Yelp
This is our go-to place for delicious Mediterranean food! The food tastes authentic and the portions are very generous. Everyone who works there is kind and friendly. 10/10 recommend!
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Great food and service as well! Falafel burger and Kofta burgers are both good. Would also recommend the baklava as well.

Shachon L.

Yelp
We ordered falafel, chicken shawarma sandwich, shish tawok, and humus. It was delicious! The server was polite and the outdoor area was clean and organized.

Mustafa I.

Yelp
We tried this place twice now and everything we ordered has been outstanding. The beef or chicken shawarma and the falafel wrap are excellent and authentic. We find that one order is enough for 2.
