The 11 Best Vegetarian Restaurants In Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Built in the shell of what was almost definitely a Sonic Drive-In, Falafel Burger is a Mediterranean takeout restaurant close to Cedar Park serving great falafel. Instead of finding it on a bed of rice or greens, here it comes in wraps, tacos, and burgers. Contrary to the name, they offer more than just falafel here—all of the burgers and tacos can also be made with kofta kebab or chicken breast—making this an extremely meat- or vegan-friendly spot where nobody will feel like they’re compromising." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

The 13 Best Mediterranean Restaurants & Food Trucks In Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Built in the shell of what was definitely a Sonic Drive-In, Falafel Burger in Cedar Park serves our favorite falafel in town—it’s hot and crunchy on the outside, with a soft, warm middle, and it’s especially fun in burger form. And they offer more than just falafel here—all of the burgers and tacos can also be made with kofta kabob or chicken breast. Much like at its Sonic predecessor, everything here is packaged to go and well-equipped for eating in your car, but there’s also a small patio with a few tables out front." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs

Falafel Burger - Review - Anderson Mill - Austin - The Infatuation

"Built in the shell of what was almost definitely a Sonic Drive-In at one point, Falafel Burger is a Mediterranean restaurant in Cedar Park serving some of the best falafel in town. But instead of finding it on a bed of rice or greens, here you’ll find it in wraps, tacos, and burgers. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Contrary to the name, you’ll find more than just falafel here. Chickpeas, kofta kabobs, and chicken breast all share a playing field here. But you’re here for some of the best falafel in the Austin area. Crispy, with a soft and savory center, they play surprisingly well with classic burger toppings and a dollop of tahini sauce. Add cheese if you’re not sticking to a vegan diet—it adds just a little oomph to it all—but either way, accompany it with a side of za’atar fries, served piping hot. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary There’s no dining room here, so plan to eat on the outdoor patio, or in the front seat of your car in one of the not-Sonic drive-in booths. Then pick up an order of pistachio or walnut baklava for later, and see if you can make it home before you finish the whole thing." - Nicolai McCrary

Google
This place is the best! Homemade food that’s always fresh. Shawarma and my favorite falafel in Austin. The wraps are huge. Delicious tabouli salad and zaatar fries with homemade garlic sauce. The owner is so nice and accommodating to dietary restrictions. He also makes fresh smoothies!

Gregory N.

Google
Literally just got done eating. The customer service was incredible. Treated us like family members even though it was our first time there. Took the time to answer all of our questions. My gf and I got a chicken shawarma wrap, Kofta burger, and split some Cajun fries. The wrap and burger were 5/5. The Cajun seasoning on the fries hit the spot. Don’t forget to ask for sauce, it brought everything together. Will be back!

Google
I love this place so much! It replaced the Sonic here on FM 620 and that kind of architecture is unmistakable, but they did a great job revamping the place. The food is delicious and the service is kind. It was REALLY slow when we arrived today, which is a shame because of how great the food is. I usually order the falafel cheeseburger with zaatar fries and a raspberry tea. Abdul was incredibly friendly and even gave us some free falafel balls fresh out of the fryer. My partner who is more of a picky eater tried one for the first time and even liked it (a huge thing for him)! I think everyone should check this place out

Rosie G.

Google
This place is phenomenal. Trying this place for the first time I had to try 3 different burgers. Kofta cheese, chicken, and regular cheese burger. The best imo is the chicken with a bit of BBQ sauce. My mother got the falafel burger which she has never tried and loved it. Highly recommend the raspberry tea. Abdul was amazing and the other staff. Even gave us free falafel balls while we were waiting! They also have vegan options. May God bless them. This is my go to burger place moving forward.

Google
I've had the pleasure of visiting Falafel Burger twice now and both were great experiences. They always greet you with a smile and seem so genuinely happy to help. This is such a rare thing in customer service these days! They helped us pick out a couple new things asking us what we've tried and what kind of foods we liked. So far, we've had the Kofta, Chicken Sharma, Za'atar fries and my personal favorite - Lemon Mint smoothie! Everything was made fresh to order, the portions were great and I'm overall so happy to support a great, friendly business!

Google
The falafel and humus had amazing flavor!! Also had the hotdog that was way bigger than I was expecting!! That too was really good. You can definitely tell they care about the food being made, really nice people!

Brian C.

Google
This place offers fast, fresh, and delicious food at a reasonable price. My son and I had the kofta (beef) and shish tawook (chicken) wraps. Both were extremely delicious, with flavorful sauce and vegetables, wrapped in a warm pita. Get the zaatar seasoned fries, very tasty. They also have regular hamburgers and chicken sandwiches for picky eaters. We ate on the covered patio but you can also get it to go from the drive through.

Google
Falafel Burger is hands down one of my new favorite spots in Austin! The burgers are absolutely AMAZING – packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. The sauce is out of this world, the fries are my absolute favorite (crispy and seasoned just right!), and don’t even get me started on the raspberry tea – it’s to die for. The staff here is just as great as the food. They’re super friendly, very accommodating, and they go out of their way to help you pick the perfect meal by asking about what you like. It makes the whole experience so welcoming and personal. Everyone in Austin needs to make their way here and try it out – you will not be disappointed!

Cade C.

Yelp
I was honestly shocked at how good this place is. The falafel burger is incredible super crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside, and packed with fresh herbs. It doesn't taste dry or heavy like some places. You can tell they actually know how to make real falafel. The fries are also amazing. Fresh, hot, perfectly salted, and you can tell they're made to order -- none of that old, soggy stuff. And even the regular hamburgers are really solid: juicy, cooked well, and full of flavor. Everything tastes fresh and made with care. If you want something quick but actually delicious, this spot is 100% worth it. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Stopped by Falafel Burger after being curious about the restaurant for months (it's an old Sonic). The concept is pretty unique for a middle eastern sandwich/wrap place- being an old Sonic, you can either park in one of the stalls and scan a QR code to order (this option didn't work for me, so I ordered at the front), or another option is going through the actual drive thru. The owner was super friendly and had great customer service. I ordered both the beef and chicken shawarmas, and both were excellent. The pita used was very fresh and soft and tasted unlike the dry ones usually used at other shawarma places. All the flavors were on point and the portion sizes great. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
Absolutely Delicious! I just tried Falafel Burger, and wow -- everything hit the spot! The chicken shawarma was better than good -- it was juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned with that authentic Middle Eastern flair. You can tell they use fresh ingredients and take pride in what they serve. And don't even get me started on the Cajun spice fries -- they were to die for! Crispy, hot, and coated in just the right amount of spice for that perfect kick. Paired together, this meal was a total win. If you're craving something bold, satisfying, and full of flavor, Falafel Burger is the place to go. I'll definitely be back! Ask for Abdul his kind service will have you coming back !

Yelp
Falafel burger combines the convenience of fast food with the quality of a sit down restaurant to serve you the best of both worlds! The wraps are delicious and so so filling. It's pretty worth for the amount of food you get. And while everything is good, I especially enjoyed the chicken shawarma. I also had my eye on some of the desserts, like I haven't really seen many places serve kunafa, but I'll have to try that next time!
google avatar

Cliff C.

Yelp
This place is great. Falafel has so much flavor. Everything I've had there so far has been on point and the customer service is better than some of the fine dining places I've been to in Austin. I'm not joking. I didn't know service could be this good through a drive-through.

Yelp
I've had the shawarma from several places in and around Cedar Park, but none of them come close to the shawarma Falafel Burger. The employees are always very nice and pleasant.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Yum! This place was really good! I got the Shish Tawook Sandwich and I really enjoyed it! The sauce was flavorful and the chicken wasn't dry. I love the crunch element added from the French fries and found the half of the sandwich very filling. I definitely wanna come back and try the chicken shawarma. I heard it was very good as well. Prices were not too bad either!

Yelp
Every time I've seen this place, I kept thinking to myself that "oh I'll go next time" or "I'll definitely go soon but not right now". If anything like this has ever applied to you, just go somewhere and try it. In my case, I can honestly say that I wish I had gone sooner. I'll start off with this right off the bat: not a fan of Mediterranean food, and I was gonna be hesitant going in. But my wife and I saw this place being mentioned on TikTok, and we finally ended up going. The person in the review mentioned getting the grouper wrap and or the falafel wrap. So that's what my wife and I did. She got the falafel and I got the grouper. We both loved it so much. For the grouper, it had a really great taste for the fish and came with a great spicy sauce inside the wrap as well! For my wife, her falafel wrap was incredibly tasty and she loved the french fries on the side. Each combo comes with fries, even though our wrap already had fries inside it, and I ended up getting Cajun fries. And let me tell you those were great too! We couldn't sit outside at the time since it was freezing, but going through the drive thru and we got the food pretty fast considering our order. I can already seeing myself going again, and I literally said so once we were done eating. If you were ever hesitant on going, please go. This place needs more attention from other customers!

Yelp
Yummy! My husband and I live right down the road from this place. It's been open for a while now and we kept telling ourselves we were gonna try it, but never did. Until now. And I'm glad we did! The guy who works there and took our order was nice. It was really cold and he told us to get back in our car instead waiting in the cold and then come around to the drive through and he'd give us our food there. Husband got a grouper wrap and I got the falafel wrap. Both got combos which came with fries and a drink. The prices are solid! The food was delicious and the portions are HUGE. I think next time I'll order an extra sauce on the side bc all the sauce was on the side of the veggies and the falafel side was slightly dry. But it wasn't a deterrent. Everything was filling and honestly the fries were so good i barely dipped them in ketchup bc I didn't think it needed them! Hah. We'll be back. Glad we finally gave this place a shot! :)

Yelp
Amazing!! We just finished up a late baseball game and even though they were about to close they were so kind and accommodating and was happy to take our order. We got the Beef shawarma, falafel wrap, chicken shawarma, spicy hummus, pistachio baklava, and walnut baklava.... Every single dish was incredible! We are very familiar with shawarma and very critical and picky- this was so fresh, even at 10pm, the ingredients were fresh and exploding with flavor! The location looks like an old sonic drive thru that is converted but the kitchen is well lit and visible to all, clean and bright and the staff was so gracious and gave five star service. We had the food in our hands so quickly and couldn't wait to devour it based on the aromatic smells taunting us on our drive back to the hotel. Thank you soooooo much for staying open a little later so we cooks experience the deliciousness! We might have to return once more before we hit the road home. Will be dreaming of shawarma & baklava tonight!

Yelp
Wanted to try something near by that was different and discovered this wonderful hidden gem! Upon arrival, you park in one of the spots like Sonic and scan the QR to order in your phone, then simply pick it up at their window. In our case, they handled our food/drinks with SOO much care and brought it out to us. We decided to get out of the car and just eat at the outdoor seating (everything was well maintained/cleaned) under shaded area. I ordered Kofta Cheeseburger Combo with raspberry tea and their Zaatar fries. Everything was hot and freshly made-to-order by their very friendly staff! Never been to this place, so they were kind to offer for me to try their falafel. I usually am one to hold off on falafel, since I am picky on the taste of it usually being too herbal for myself. Once I took a bite of their falafel, then I was very impressed!! Crispy, not dry, freshly made, and delicious! The Zaatar fries are like seasoned fries and they were good especially with the special sauce. My raspberry tea was a bit sweet for myself, but it was still pretty good. The location is super easy to drive into and park to enjoy some yummy food! They have vegan options as well, so everyone can enjoy this local business.

Timothy C.

Yelp
Abdul was super kind and gracious about the wait but it was totally worth it! he gave me a sample of falafel with humus for free and also upgraded all of my side items plus drink to large which was super nice as I only ended up waiting 30 minutes but, it is definitely the best shawarma in Austin!

Dana A.

Yelp
Hefty portions and great pricing. The Cajun fries are def worth trying! The staff was extremely friendly and my food came out very quickly. Great stop - food was fantastic!
google avatar

Sarah E.

Yelp
This spot is underrated, a must try! Old Sonic spot turned into Falafel Burger. I've been wanting to try this place as I've seen some good reviews. So my husband and I preordered 2 beef shawarma wraps online for pick up. Then we just decided to eat on the spot in the car while food's hot. I was pleasantly surprised bc they gave us lots of napkins and gloves! The wrap had also so much beef! Definitely recommend for meat lovers. I personally would have liked little more balance between meat & veggies, but who can complain about too much meat. Next time I'll get their salad too. I'd definitely come back!
google avatar

Erin G.

Yelp
The food was delicious and service was super fast. Perfect meal for takeout! I want to try everything else on the menu too.

Barbara I.

Yelp
Good food and good service. Abdul was very kind. It has halal and healthy options like falafel salads and shawarma wraps, but also the standard burger for any picky eaters in the family :) There is even a drive through for when you are tired. Would recommend!

Lindsey J.

Yelp
I love stopping by this place for a quick bite. The food is always so fresh, hot, tastes clean, and delicious. They do not skimp on any of the ingredients. They are really friendly and kind! Try half Zatarr and half Cajun seasonings on your fries. 10/10. Thank you!!!

Chaney L.

Yelp
Falafel Burger is a total gem! The customer service was great and the food was excellent! Hands down the best beef shawarma in Austin! Falafel was amazing too. It's such a chill spot with good vibes, an outdoor patio, and even a drive-thru. Very pleased and definitely coming back! Can't wait to try the burger.
google avatar

Paola M.

Yelp
The customer service is amazing, the staff are welcoming. Definitely will come back again, the food and environment were amazing!

Patrick B.

Yelp
Delicious Middle Eastern-inspired burgers, sandwiches and wraps. Chicken Shawarma wraps are my wife's go to and they are among the best in the city. My personal favorite is the Kofta burger. Delicious flavorful beef patty that is a nice mix of an American hamburger and Middle Eastern Kofta. I always include the Zaatar fries with every order with the special sauce. Definitely a great addition to the neighborhood!

Deborah G.

Yelp
Beef and Chicken Shawarmas are amazing, but the highlight of this family run business is the people and service. Never been happier to support such a great restaurant with the nicest people running it. Its in a converted sonic, with easy order and pick up, convenient to 620/anderson mill with good music on the patio. 10/10 recommend

Justin L.

Yelp
Came late on a Monday. Food was quick and hot. Was my second time stopping by. Very tasty and flavorful. Has outside seating as well!

Madison B.

Yelp
So good! Great hospitality and great food I love the mango smoothie and Chicken Shawarma. I hear the Shish Tawook is good.
google avatar

Yelp
Drive by this old sonic building three times a week wanting to stop at the new restaurant falafel burger finally got a chance to do it on Easter! Outstanding food and service very casual atmosphere, super clean, friendly staff, a little weird thinking it was once a sonic, but you quickly get over that when you taste the food hot and fresh off the grill seasoned perfectly. Can't wait till the next time I visit.
google avatar

Lieza S.

Yelp
Best Falafel burger in Texas! We were visiting Austin looking for vegetarian options and came across this little fast food place. When I tell you the food , all of it was the most delicious food I've had in a ver long time I'm serious. The customer service was excellent and the food was fresh , hot and quick. I'd highly recommend this establishment. I'd give 10 stars if I could.
google avatar

Paula L.

Yelp
This place took over the old Sonic. It was a little strange since they didn't take down the car park or drive through. But I found the drive though to be pretty convenient. They had a selection of wraps, sandwiches, and burgers. We tried the falafel and kafta wrap. The portions were super generous and flavors on-point. The fries it came with could be fresher but overall, everything was delicious! Great value for the portion size.

Isabella L.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING. We live in the area and tried this spot for the first time today. Sensational. So flavorful. The staff is so kind. The drive thru is very convenient. 10000/10. We'll be back soon! Everyone must try this spot!! We had the chicken Shawarma wrap, the kofta wrap and the zar tar fries.

Yelp
I had their Falafel Burger, it's a new concept that was done very well and was ver delicious

Yelp
we were driving through austin on a road trip and this was a great stop to get food. i got the falafel cheeseburger salad and it didn't say it came with fries and it did so that was a nice surprise, i just wish they had put the fries on the side or in a different container instead of on top of the salad lol but it was very good

Dylan R.

Yelp
Excellent Middle Eastern inspired sandwiches, tacos, burgers and more. You really can't go wrong with anything you choose on the menu. Nice drive-in style restaurant with some outdoor seating as well. If you're in the mood for Hookah and smoothies, don't worry they have that too. The gentlemen in the kitchen are very friendly and are happy to share their excellent food with you! I highly recommend this place to anyone passing through the area.

Rustin R.

Yelp
Today we finally had time to stop and try it and we were not disappointed! When it comes to falafel in Austin you have plenty of options for ones that taste boring and not fresh. Here you get freshness so good you can taste the herbs in the mixture for the Falafel. I tried the double falafel special! It was a Koufta/falafel combo! Biggest burger I've had in forever and for the price it's well worth it. The Zaatar fries are so unique and the sweet potato fries are second to none. The chicken taco 3 pack could feed a family! And don't get me started on the sauces! So unique and fresh. Worth the stop!
google avatar

Nancy P.

Yelp
For a month I started seeing advertisements for falafel burger, since I love Middle Eastern food, I had to try it. I took the drive down 620 and found it rather easily. Pulled into a parking spot and headed toward the front door. To my surprise it was just a ordering window. It looks like it used to be an old ice cream shop, so no indoor seating. Inside was just the kitchen to make all of the Middle Eastern food . I ordered baba ganoush, a Kofta burger, and a Kunafa. If I remember correctly, it was just a little over $15. And I thought for those items it was worth it. I took one of the outside tables close to the ordering window. Only one other table had people at it. It was may be about 10 minutes and my food was ready . I picked it up at the window and headed to my car to take it home. Once home, I wanted to try the baba ganoush first. So I looked for pieces of pita so I can dip it in, that's when I realized they gave me tortilla instead of pita. So using the tortilla, I dipped to try the baba ganoush. It turned out to be delicious and a huge portion. Next step was the kafta burger, when I lifted the burger container out of the bag. My first thought was this is heavy. That burger weighed a ton. So I decided to cut it in half and just eat half of it. That was the plan, but it was so good. Once I finished half I dove into the second half . I was so full I decided to hold off on the Kunafa until later. I'd have it for dessert after dinner. It wasn't the best Kunafa I have ever had it it still was tasty. I think the next time I'm going to try the falafel burger since that is what they're famous for
google avatar

Edgar S.

Yelp
I . Ordered the spicy hummus which was phenomenal and so was the eggplant babaghanushi hope I spelled that right. The beef Sharwma was ok. The service was really friendly. The only thing I didn't like was that their hummus and eggplant says you get pita bread with the order but you don't. You get a flour tortillas!! Which was lame as hell!!!!! 3.5 out of five.

Yelp
I pass by this place weekly and finally had a chance to try it out. I had the chicken shawarma and it was good. The service was good and they were polite.

Yelp
I had the best swhwarma I have ever had at Falafel burger. I got a chicken Swharma and it was amazing! Customer service was amazing and fast and Abdull is a great guy. I loved the environment of the place and the set up they have. Zero complaints but only love for Falafel burger!

Mary M.

Yelp
Very delicious kofta cheese burger and falafel burgers! Excellent fries with zaatar seasoning. Great service too! Definitely a very high recommendation for this spot!

Ximena S.

Yelp
We ordered food for the family on our way back from a day trip... Falafel Burger did NOT disappoint! The falafel burgers with seasoned fries (cajun and zaatar) were delicious. The fatoush falafel salad is a meal on its own, the dressing was tangy (on the sour side), a great compliment for the falafel. My falafel wrap just as good! (And huge, I saved half for later lol). The babaghanoush is smoky with a hint of tanginess and taste of olives (from the oil), delicious! (I wish they served it with some form of flat bread instead of buns though). We also tried the falafel taco, delicious! The finishing touch was dessert... crispy fresh, perfectly sweet baklava. The service was friendly and patient, he answered all the questions we had about our order and the food came wrapped neatly. We will definitely visit again and explore more from their wide selection of food (just in case you are wondering, there are also plenty of meat based dishes).
google avatar

Ian M.

Yelp
We ordered the falafel tacos and wrap (combo) with beet tabouki salad. And of course, baklava. All were superb! Many of the places I've been to, the falafel was bland and dry. Not here. Soft and full of flavor! The salad was shareable and hit the spot with the parsley overload. For the baklava... well, I'm surprised I scavenger a bite before my wife inhaled it. The business os owner operated and our order was taken without any rush. Our order was made on the spot, so it gave us a few minutes to chat at the outdoor tables. Super friendly staff. Did I mention it's got a drive through? Will be coming back here again :)

Matt

Yelp
Food was great, and decent portion sizes too. Highly recommend the kofta burger. Service was very friendly and we will definitely be returning soon.

Yelp
One of the most creative and interesting restaurants in the nation. Please support this business so we can make this restaurant a local place around all of America. This restaurant is quality food and some of the most friendly staff you will ever meet. Would absolutely go back.

Rolk S.

Yelp
The restaurant is Great and the Food is aswell. The portions are large and the fries are good. The oil they use doesn't work with my stomach though

Jim H.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped here yesterday on a whim, knowing nothing about the place, and were delighted with our food. I had an excellent chicken shawarma wrap with Cajun fries, and my wife had a fatoush falafel salad, which she really enjoyed. I had a bite of her falafel, and it was perfectly done, hot and crisp on the outside. My shawarma wrap was very tender and juicy, with a really flavorful sauce. We were very impressed, and we will be back.

Noah W.

Yelp
Me and my wife love eating here! They have delicious burgers and Wraps. Also a friendly atmosphere! I would definitely recommend this place!

Adam H.

Yelp
Sorry, Austin, but this food is nasty. Unless you like watered down, unsalted, tasteless hummus, a small scoop of barely chopped, unsalted tabouli with almost no wheat served on top of huge romaine leaves to hide how small the portion was, or unsalted falafel. I won't call the falafel flavorless, because it was clear that they used the same oil as their fried grouper sandwich---so it tasted like fish. Oh, and the bread served with the hummus is a single sliced up, non-homemade burrito tortilla. Barf. My door dash service was great though. Delivered so no ambiance to speak of, but I'm assuming it's difficult to find any salt inside the restaurant. BYOS, yall! 30 years of eating Med food and this is at the bottom of the list. It was in the trash can at the street in less time than it took to deliver.
google avatar

Neeharika P.

Yelp
Food-wise, this place is a 5/5. We got the kofta burger, Cajun fries and chicken shawarma. Everything was delicious, and the meat was tender and perfectly seasoned. Pickup was fairly quick too. The 1 star docked is solely for the location because it truly sucks. The restaurant is at the corner of the terrible FM 620 and Anderson Mill junction. You'll spend ages getting in and out. Apart from the location, this is a great bite of food - will be back to try the fusion tacos.

Peto C.

Yelp
I love this place I've been looking for authentic Mediterranean food in this place delivers. The owner of super nice the services amazing and the food tastes delicious. I highly highly recommend this
