Family Affair Caribbean Restaurant Opens in Dorchester’s Upham’s Corner | Eater Boston

"Located in Upham’s Corner, this recently opened spot blends Caribbean flavors with classic soul-food comfort, serving items like curry chicken, buttermilk fried wings and a heavy focus on chicken and waffles — the menu boasts 52 different variations, with weekly specials rotating through them. Common sides include mac and cheese, candied yams, rice and peas and potato salad. Owner Jermaine Tulloch, who grew up on Bowdoin Street in Dorchester, started the business as a catering company in Warwick, RI in June 2018 after a career teaching music and special education in the Boston public schools, and says he’s happy to be feeding his community. The casual space seats about 30, and current hours are Monday–Thursday noon–9 p.m. and Friday–Saturday noon–10 p.m., with hopes to expand those hours soon." - Terrence Doyle

Breakfast was great. Place looks great, so much better than last year. All new booths, service was awesome. New breakfast spot for us.

So i supported a new black owned restaurant today and wanted to love it so bad but i am so dissapointed that the taste was bleh! The crab rangoon rolls were the star of the show but the spring rolls were not good at all, lack flavor. Ordered 2 fried chkn dinners(2 sides), 1 chkn and waffle (apple pie), coconut mango shrimp dinner (2 sides). The fried chicken was fried dry and 1 order burnt, the waffle wasn't cooked all the way through and it came with 5 sm wingettes were rocks, the shrimp size was on point and wasnt overcooked but the sauce (i can tell) wasnt from scratch. The potato salad was disgusting. The price was good but not for the portion. I wish them all the best but i will never go back or recommend!

I got the chicken wings and waffles (see receipt) and it was disappointing. 3 wings and an oily waffel for $15? That's just silly. Please don't waste your money here! For an extra $5, you can get 20 wings for $20 at Harp and Bard. I was truly looking forward to this food, but what a letdown. It didn't even taste good!

I’m always in the lookup you try new restaurant. I walked into the restaurant and the smell of the food was amazing. I was greeted by the owner and I ordered the oxtail dinner. The meat was so tender and full of flavor and the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese were delicious. The owner walked to my table and offer me a free lemonade drink. A must try restaurant. A Must try food.

Phenomenal. Comfort food at its best. Ordered some wings (jerk sauce and mango sauce), stuffed plantain, mac n cheese, and steak n cheese egg rolls. I'm telling you, these are some of the best wings I've ever had. It's about the quality of the wing itself here. Tender, juicy, meaty wings with great sauces to complement. Everything else was top notch as well. I'm excited to try their other menu items next time

Creative takes on chicken and waffles that so far have all tasted delicious. The original was great but my favorite is the PB&J waffles. Great customer service too. Looking forward to going back soon. They had some delicious specials too so don’t forget to ask about them.

The whole atmosphere is amazing and very warm and welcoming, I was so surprised to see how creative the menu gets and the richness of the waffles👌🏾. This place is incredible!!! The new patio is nice as well, very comfortable, I will definitely be back...with friends
