Clean and cared for, nice felt, and great sticks. Also, the food was much better than expected. They serve beer on tap and in bottles along with other family-friendly snacks. This venue is built for a great Billiards experience. Would recommend a visit or renting the whole place for 50 to 150 guests.

It’s been maybe around 5-6 years since I’ve been to Family. I used to go once a month, but with school and the pandemic, we had just stopped. This review is for February ‘22, the feel is still the same with the lights and tables. Big changes are: need vaccination card, need masks, pool sticks are behind the counter being sanitized versus off the wall (or bring your own), don’t think they have food (at least when we went weekday evening), and they are now cash only (due to something with the credit company). Prices were still similar, $10 for 1 person then the rate goes less with more people. $18 for 2, $26 for 3? I don’t remember exactly. But it was similar to what I can remember. They do still serve beer. Parking was street parking, as it looks like they closed the Bank of America (which is now gone) lot that was once above it. Overall, with the Covid caution, and many changes. It still felt great to be out there and we had fun.

Why is this club called “family” if kids can’t go in. Freindy staff tho!❤️

Google
The space had a fun & welcoming vibe. There was plenty of space to sit and plenty of pool tables. The food was good and I would certainly go again.

We visited San Francisco for a date night and found this nice billiard hall. They had a good variety of snacks and beers. Staff was really pleasant and well definitely come back when we visit the city again.

Nice to go in and see most of the tables in use.

This is place is great. It’s always clean with a great coffee bar I do wish they had more diamond tables though

Google
First time visiting and definitely pleased with everything. The gentleman at the counter was pleasant and friendly, the prices are reasonable and the quality of the tables was great. The cushions were nice and responsive, tables were leveled out well and plenty of room around each table. Adequate seating, clean bathrooms a big screen TV and lots of cold beverages. I will definitely return. I highly recommend this classic billiard parlor to any who loves the game!

Yelp
They are still the same family billiards from 30 years ago , lol! Chill pool hall where you can come with friends , grab some beer , some finger food, listen to some music, and play a couple/few rounds of pool. There might be a wait on Friday or Saturday nights.

Mike V.

Yelp
The memberships (daytime until 6, evenings on weekdays) are good deals if you want to hone your skills. Good happy hour specials. Definitely check ahead of time on weekdays for tournaments in the evenings.

Cristina M.

Yelp
Excellent place to rent out for family gatherings, corporate events, or any party. Facilities are clean, and the pool tables and poles are in good condition. The food was surprisingly very good! And Excellent Beer selections. Would highly recommend! Jukebox sounds the whole place!

Cynthia L.

Yelp
Love family billiards! They have great deals for playing pool and we went as a group of 4 which was $24 per hour I believe. Pretty decent if you ask me! This place is also nicer than most of the other billiard joints I have gone to in the city. The tables are really nice and new and they even ask that you use the rag when you break to ensure the table doesn't get damaged. The balls are also so well polished that me and my friends were not used to how smoothly they glided across the pool table. We were shocked that because of the lack of friction, our usual shots that would be making it in were not! There's also a lot of professional players here practicing so you know that it is a great place to go to. I always see people who are serious about billiards pull up with their own equipment and even the gloves and practice the same few shots over and over.

Yelp
Very nice place a lot of beautiful people come to play they stop in our store. We are next-door Mission Organic Center. We are very happy that we are neighbors. Good service.

Tacha S.

Yelp
we had a huge family event and rented the venue for the night, that was amazing. The family made sure we had everything we needed, plenty of snacks, food, beverage. The took family pictures of us and encouraged our young ones as well when they were trying to make a shot. The music selection was good we were dancing and playing pool, it was a two for one. For a fun family event, I would truly recommend this venue Thanks again to the owners, the family!

Rick S.

Yelp
Super cool billiards hall which was a walking distance from my buddies place. Loved how big it was inside and how well maintained the tables were. The felt was immaculate and loved that they provided you with a cloth to prevent burn damage on the felt when breaking. I always love a place that takes care of their stuff.

Luis M.

Yelp
Super chill spot. They got a TouchTunes machine so you can queue up favorite songs. The staff are friendly. Definitely a fun vibe. They got beer and other drinks and some food too. Definitely recommend. $20 an hour for two people.

Jimmy L.

Yelp
Great place if you want to come and play some pool with some friends. Came with around 7-8 of my friends and had some great 2v2 games. Easy to order the set, get a table, and play. There are drinks there as well so great for late night hangouts and to spur up that competition with friends. They seem to be asian owned too.

A. M.

Yelp
Fantastic place the guy at the front is soooooooo sweet we love him He is always great and attentive great customer service I love going there to play

Pamela S.

Yelp
Family Billiards is the best pool/billiard hall in SF, hands down. + dope staff + surprisingly good beer selection + jukebox you can control from your phone One of my favorite spots in the city :,)

Kevin L.

Yelp
You pay per person. There's plenty of tables so you don't have to wait. But it always smells like cigarette smoke since they let people smoke right next to the entrance

Geoffrey B.

Yelp
This place is named "Family Billiards", and it's not clear from the website that you need to be 18 or over to play here. Sounds like I'm not the only one who showed up with my kid only to discover this from the sign on the front door. I went back and looked at their website, and it does turn out that if you scroll all the way down to the absolute bottom of their home page, there is a note that you have to be 18+. I'm more than ok with a business restricting patrons to 18+, but plenty of arcades with billiard tables are open to people below 18, and this place is named "family billiards". So, family billiards, please communicate the age restriction upfront so people don't make a trip out only to get disappointed. To be clear, the one star is a review of my experience, which as you can tell from above wasn't good. But it actually sounds like this is a decent place if you're over 18, so if none of this applies to you, you may end up having a really good time.

Tomdegraff ..

Yelp
Real billiards room with leagues, tournaments, and open play for all levels. Free parking, beer, and food too. Open late. Also have cues for sale and cue repair. Well cared for tables includes 16 full sizetables(9ft) and 1 Diamond Barbox (7ft).

Yelp
Been here twice a nice place too shoot pool. I recommended that you bring your own pool stick they have very low quality sticks. But this pool hall has a very nice vibe to it about.I would recommend this place to all.

Diana C.

Yelp
Nice spot to play billiards. Clean bathrooms. They make you break the ball on top of a little square felt cloth. I know there were at least 13 pool tables cause we had pool #13 near the back. I like that they had benches and seats there for you to sit as you wait for your turn if you are part of a group. We came around 9 pm on a Friday night and it was $20/hr. What was interesting was that the balls come out from the side of the table rather than landing in a pocket holder. We didn't see any sticks on the side of the table but they were perched alongside the wall. Only dislike I have is that since the pool tables were close together, sometimes you might end up having to wait for someone over at the next table to make their shot since you might poke them with your pool stick. They have a FiveStars rewards program so collect your points for a free game in the future.

Adrianne R.

Yelp
I came here on an unexpectedly on a Friday night around 8pm, and really enjoyed my night. There were about 8-10 pool tables. And when I went there, they were filled. By the time I left, there was a crowd at the bar, and still a couple empty pool tables. Chun was the bartender serving me drinks and I just wanted to mention that Chun went above and beyond in serving not only me, but everyone there that night by personally delivering every order, wether it was a drink or food. Every time he passed me, he always made me laugh, or gave me really helpful pool advice. Thank u Chun for really topping my first experience at Family Billiards.

Dennis G.

Yelp
I have had my cue repaired 2 times because the tip came off twice after being fixed at family billiards and was charged full price the second time. I will not have my cue repaired there again.

E F.

Yelp
Friendly and chill place for billiards. Tables are true but minor felt stains. Little cue stick interference from adjoining tables. I thought their table rates were reasonable. Never had to wait for table. Lots of drinks available, have seen food but did not try. No pressure to buy. More or less constant music. I request tables away from speakers. There are good players here but no sketchy characters that I have experienced; been coming for five years. I am not a female but the place and clientele seem safe. Bathrooms kept reasonably clean. Still minus a point because entrance looks a little trashy which could be easily addressed. Interestingly it's on a section of Geary not so often used so I have found metered parking in front a number of times.

James S.

Yelp
Brought my family to Family Billards and my family couldn't enter,?Not old enough. I've been going there for years I swear I've seen little kids in there. We even have vaccination cards. They need to change the name to adult billards!

Eric S.

Yelp
Nice tables and good environment. There are some people that seem to be always there platying and they are nice. Place could be a little cleaner in general.

Katie M.

Yelp
I like to come to Family because of the facility. Unlike many other billiards, Family maintain their tables well. Also, not only drinks, they serve snacks too. Parking is easy to find around the area or you can park at their lot which enter at the side of the building. Weekdays not too crowded.

Linda N.

Yelp
$13 for an hour of pool for 2 and one bud light seems like a good deal. Game 1 - he won fair and square Game 2 - he won by default. he had about 5 balls left and all I had to do was hit the 8 ball in. I freakin hit the white ball in and lost. i almost had it. Game 3 - I won by default. I was still pissed from the last game, stomping and pouting after every shot. the victory wasn't satisfying. Rematch.

Vlad K.

Yelp
Awesome place to go.open till very late at night... They serve beer and Great onion wings!!!! Great for groups. Definitely recommend if you like pool.

Hursh K.

Yelp
Casual, simple spot to shoot pool and hang. Love the jukebox where you can play the tunes of your choice

Justin N.

Yelp
Our gang arrives at Jillian's to shoot pool but to our dismay we find a private party was about to pop off and thus, we got kicked out. Undeterred we stroll over to Thirsty Bear as they have some tables but wait, wedding reception, no pool for us. *sigh* It was looking like a pool-less day for our crew but no, NO. We were determined. We all met up JUST to shoot pool and shooting pool is what we intended to do. Do you hear me gods of pool?? WE WILL NOT BE STOPPED! A 10 minute walk and 20 minute bus ride later, we arrive at Family Billiards. I had never been, didn't know what to expect. What I found was a good old fashion pool hall, no strings attached. No private parties, no wedding receptions, JUST POOL. Very nice tables, a fairly common price of around $10-$15 per hour, and CHEAP ASS BEER. Yeaaaaa, happy hour here is ANY draft beer, $2.50. No I didn't have a typo there, I said $2.50. Stella, Anchor Steam, New Castle.... TWO FITTY! No joke, if you want to play pool I recommend just coming here straight away. Sure it's no handy down town location but take it from people who wasted 45 minutes down town trying to shoot pool, you're better off just taking the 38 out here in the first place and get what you're looking for. Thanks for saving our day! PS- One more time, New Castle for $2.50!!!! I love you Family Billiards...

John G.

Yelp
I miss Great Entertainer - but this place would do for now. Went here on a Friday night with the co-workers to blow some steam and chug a few Guinness. It also doubled as a sending off party for one of our co-worker - who is moving to Atlanta. The guy working the counter, (I believe he was the manager) was very friendly, funny, cool and accommodating. He made us feel relaxed and felt like we could have been regulars. The prices are pretty decent and are charged per hour. For about 2 1/2 hours worth of game, we got charged $29.00....you do the math. They have plenty of Guinness and made sure they kept em coming. We didn't mind and the lady working the counter was quite the looker. For snacks, they mostly had finger food and we opted for the calamari rings - which did the job since all of us were hungry. I haven't played pool in years so I was rusty and played like crap. I did manage to run three in a row but that was the highlight of the night. I was more lucky than good since we won three in a row but I'm not taking any credits for that. It could have been a 5 star rating but I gotta take one off because they lacked some good music selections on their jukebox and their speakers could have been a little louder. But overall...a good place to play pool, hang out, chug a few pints or Guinness and have fun. I'll be back.

Chanel L.

Yelp
I've been coming to family ever since I was in high school. Anyone who wants to go play pool, I would suggest family. Family is the only pool hall I know in San Francisco (if there are any other pool halls in san francisco, please let me know.) They have about 20ish tables?! and would suggest going early during the weekends. Theres definitely a rush and if you miss it, you might have to wait 1 - 2 hours to get another table. I love how they have a bar you can sit at, drink some booze while waiting for a pool table. Also, a juke box, where you can feed money into the system to listen to music. They also serve bar food and you can order it upfront or from a waitress that walks around. My favorite beer to order is the Snake Bite,. pear cider topped with guiness = HEAVEN! That's all I look forward to when my friends want to come play pool. I just sit and order SNAKE BITES all night long! I will be back !

Kevin T.

Yelp
I go here a lot for the convenience, but the tables themselves have seen better days. I don't know why they force you to break off of a small tablecloth, because the tables have not been re-felted in awhile. There is also a limited variety from the beer taps and they ran out of the cider that I had wanted. The ambience was also a little bit off. The place was unusually quiet considering the place was half packed, and no one was playing anything from the jukebox. The table lights were also very dim. I'm pretty sure it's to save electricity, because it was hard for me to focus on my shot from some poorly lit locations on the table.

Gerard Y.

Yelp
Things that never change - Since they don't have a proper kitchen that's separated from the poll hall area with no ventilation, their fryer for food is near the cashier area. Just spending an hour here will make your clothes smell like days old deep fried grease. Things that changed - It's too bad Larry doesn't work here anymore. It seems like something is missing now since he's not there anymore. I think that would be good customer service.

Thomas H.

Yelp
This is a magical place. Reasonable pool by the hour and Red Horse on TAP. Red Horse is a Filipino beer (halfway between a beer and malt liquor) that I've never seen on tap, not even in the Philippines.

Mike L.

Yelp
After all of these years, I still wonder why this place is called Family Billiards. Sure, it's not your seedy type of pool hall (it's still relatively dark though), but I have yet to see a family play pool here! The tables are full sized, but their condition leaves you kind of wanting - a bit beat up and the felt has seen its share of better days. Also, I used to wonder if the tables in the front played differently than the ones in the back since some seemed to have more forgiving pockets than others. After reading some of these other reviews, it makes me feel so much better to know that I wasn't driving myself crazy thinking the tables were playing tricks on me (it would also be my reason for sucking so badly on some trips here...yeaaaaaahhhh...). They have bench seating on the walls, as well as some chairs scattered throughout. The workers/servers are friendly, and you can gorge yourself on a variety of snacks and beer while you watch. Their hours are pretty long too...we came here once after a NYE party and they were still open when we left at 4am! Street parking in the area can be a little hit and miss, but they do have an upstairs lot (entrance around the corner) so you should be able to grab a spot up there. I still like the atmosphere of Thalassa in Berkeley better, but Family is a solid spot for the City.

Sunil R.

Yelp
Pretty decent option if you want to grab a few beers, eat some fried food and shoot some pool. The garlic fries were awesome and plentiful. The guy at the front desk was pretty funny. Crowd seemed pretty decent and well behaved.

Kat C.

Yelp
Yay for hellza pool tables, garlic fries, beer, and a jukebox with a fun range of songs. They stop serving food and drinks around 10 or 11pm, I believe...so better stock up before then. I prefer Thalassa in Berkeley just cause they have more drink varieties and it's closer to where I live but Family's is the next best thing if I'm in SF. They have staff bring u drinks and food :) Great service! Street parking can be tough....so park upstairs :) Lets shoot some POOL!! (Can I get a handicap....?)

Sarah C.

Yelp
Came here last week and this week. Came during the day on a weekday. Last week when I came when it opened it was pretty empty. Today I got here around 1.30pm. It was more crowded but with plenty of tables opened. I was the only chick there. The tables is nice. Sometimes I felt like I was a bit close to the players at the other tables. Never tried the food and I cannot understand what is said over the mic. Good place to just play pool.

Michael G.

Yelp
Great place. Friendly staff, meet some people to play some one pocket with. They have some canned juice available which is nice.

Daniel H.

Yelp
The pool tables are in okay condition but I've seen better-maintained ones. It wasn't crowded but we came a little late so I think we missed the big groups. My friend says he would usually have to wait in line to get a table but that wasn't the case when we went. Everybody pretty much goes to shoot pool while having a beer or two. I noticed a cute girl working at the bar... Anyways, there were some people chasing their cue balls around the place, but I assume that doesn't happen too often. The pricing isn't too bad, too. I think it was around $12 for an hour for 4 people. The parking on the rooftop doesn't have enough lighting. After we were done playing, we went to our car on the rooftop. There was a lot of parking left. Our car was in the dark so who knows what or who could have jumped out to scare us...

Kristina B.

Yelp
Great place, open late, good beer at good prices! My favorite neighborhood spot to play pool - damn the chain venues with their hyped prices!

A L.

Yelp
Great place to sharpen up your pool skills and grab some bar snacks at the same time, not your typical dingy bar with pool tables... this is where the serious players go too! Decent beer selection as well and always have had wonderful service.

Kay A.

Yelp
Great place to shoot some pool! A bunch of friends and I come here at least once a month or so just to hang out. The guys who run this place are friendly and great guys to just talk to. There's always a huge number of tables, and on the weekdays you can usually always get a table. Weekends are busier and the earlier you come the better! The way the tables are set up definitely maximize the space of the place and you usually aren't in the way of other tables too often. They're open pretty late on the weekends too, which is a plus! Bonus: the food here is so good! If you get here before their kitchen closes, you can snag a huge plate of garlic fries or curly fries with pulled pork!

Purrrfect 1.

Yelp
Don't eat here!!! The employees aren't trustworthy with your food. They don't use gloves when handling your food and go from touching your food to the register and back. Have your ever seen the carrots and celery? OLD AS DIRT!!! They say they're open till 2am but when I get off work and go there they usually tell me they're closing soon. Allot of the times if I get there around 12am and they're closed. Employee are rude and there is never find a manager on duty. No wonder they are the way they are!!

Andrew T.

Yelp
This is a billiards hall through and through. I came here on a Saturday night and there were quite a few tables available. There's everything that you need to have fun here-the jukebox, a bar (lots of drinks weren't available on tap where I was there). Parking is available in the area as well. Owner or manager of the establishment isn't quite the nicest guy.

Bill G.

Yelp
I shoot here when I come up into the city every now and then on weekends. I love that I always end up finding parking easily. This is one of those rarer things in the city. Food is pretty average, but tables are nice. They are all flat and fast, but they have differently sized pockets. The tables at the front have tighter pockets and are harder to play on. If you're a casual player, you should probably ask for a table near the back.

Maybo L.

Yelp
I've driven by this place many times but I have never actually looked inside to check out what it was until I decided to look on Yelp for the closest place that I could go play pool at. I came here on a Saturday night and while there is a decent amount of people here, there are still tables available. The place is clean and the bathrooms are well kept. An employee comes by every table taking food and drink orders once in awhile which was really convenient. I've played pool a couple of times in college but I've forgotten most of the rules but it was still fun nonetheless. No one is going to judge you here, everyone is just there to have fun with friends, no pressure at all. This place is 18+ so if you have siblings or friends that are not quite of drinking age that aren't able to play pool in bars, this is the place to go!

Angelo F.

Yelp
You had a bad day You're taking one down You sing a sad song just to turn it around.... But even pool won't turn this day around. This review was going to be a blog about how horrible my day was and some of the minuscule insignificant mistakes I made. Those mistakes started a string of insults, condescension, etc that just fucked my shit up. But I won't get into it. So yes, today was a bad day. What do I do? Go to Family Billiards. Bad idea. I have been on SF State's billiard club all 5 (yes 5) years of college and there is one constant through it all: a mad pool player is a bad pool player. This was the worst game I have EVER played....and I was playing myself! I have played in tournaments, beat ranked pool players...but I couldn't sink a ball to save my life. AAAAARRRRRRGGGGG! Fuck was this a bad day. Despite: 1. The friendly and helpful staff. 2. 8 beers on tap. 3. 18 pool tables. 4. The place is full of regulars and has that "Cheers, Norm!!!!" feeling to it. 5. Great prices (per hour): $7.75 (one player), $12 (two players), $13 (three players), $14 (four players). 6. A jute box (50% hip hop, 40% rock, 10% easily listening) roughly 7. Wide selection of pool ques (jumper, break, standard) for sale. 8. Bathrooms, lockers, plenty of seating. 9. Clean, well maintained pool tables, spaced well enough to not feel cramped. 10. food (I didn't get a good look at it but I did see kimchee instant noodle bowls...mmmmm). I just couldn't get over the day's disappointments. I can't wait to go back after nursing my wounds. Then its on like Donkey Kong. ;)

Joe C.

Yelp
I have drunk many many beers in the Pig & Whistle right next door, but before last night I had never actually set foot inside Family Billiards. Now I just want to go there all the time. Bad things about Family Billiards: blue felt made me feel like I was playing in a real pool; someone spilled beer all over my jacket. Great things about Family Billiards: Nice level well-roomed tables; $3.50 Anchors; yummy fried food options; reasonable prices; winning like 9 games in a row; beating Jaime L. 5 stars and that's my final offer.

Roy N.

Yelp
Recently bought myself a new pool cue as an early x'mas gift to myself. With about five or six fancy cues in cases at home, I needed another new cue like a hole in the head. Regardless, the instant I saw it, I just knew I just had to have it. I picked it up and I'm glad I did. It's a black Lucasi Ltd edition cue with leather grip, "Smoke", one of 25 made. It is now my favorite cue. Anyway, haven't taken it to Town & Country, but have certainly taken it to Family enough times lately. Nice tables (love the cloth color too), great staff, reasonable rates, and they even have food although I have yet to order anything...this is the perfect place to play and practice. For some reason, I always thought there would be more of a 'gang' element in here, but I am happy to say that I was wrong. This is really a great place. The tables near the front have extra-tight pockets for when you want to sharpen up your A-game or are feeling masochistic. I really miss Chalkers and Hollywood Billiards. Pool halls in SF are a dying breed...happy that there are still places like Family Billiards at which to play. This is a great place to fine tune your gameplay before raising hell on the local bar tables. They'll never know what hit them.

Marzan W.

Yelp
This time and the last time I was here, all hell broke loose. A fight broke out between different groups and one said someone gave somebody a stink eye and returned it with a dirty look. I don't know the whole ordeal, I was just caught in the middle of the rivalry at my table in between theirs. Aside from the chaos and mayhem, this place is A-ok. "99 Problems but a fight ain't one. If you having staring problems I feel bad for you son. I got 99 problems but a fight ain't one."
