Fantzye Bagels - Review - Kingston - Hudson Valley - The Infatuation

"There’s moderate-to-severe “we do things differently here” energy at Fantzye Bagels in Kingston. That commitment to quirk can be charming, as with a (surprisingly restrained) chocolate-cherry cream cheese, or the hit of preserved lemon in the salmon melt. It can also be unnecessary. For some of the hot sandwiches, the team at Fantzye presses their sourdough bagels on the plancha instead of using a traditional toaster. That move softens the already-light bagels, rather than crisping them up with a hard toast, and the egg sandwich creeps into monotextural territory. Have a breakfast meeting here or load up before a hike. You might not be running back every other weekend, but the bagels will suit all of your needs. photo credit: Hannah Albertine photo credit: Hannah Albertine photo credit: Hannah Albertine Pause Unmute" - Hannah Albertine

It is a fancy bagel. They look plucked from a photo shoot for a glossy food mag. What stands out to this bagel snob is the chew. Texturally they are denser and chewier than any bagel I can remember, bordering on a rustic homemade sourdough loaf. They are crispy on the exterior but not quite crunchy. Everything seasoning was nice, laudably generous with the butter. As other reviewers have pointed out, these are expensive bagels. This will be five stars for some (perhaps fewer for price-conscious customers), I’m at 4 because while fresh and tasty, the chewy denseness felt more like eating a chunk of buttered sourdough loaf than a airy, crispy, classic NYC style bagel. I suspect they’re great first thing in the morning, maybe they toughened up by afternoon. Will give another shot when I’m feelin’ the $5 bagel urge to splurge:

Oh my goodness! I’m a bagel snob, and these bagels are top-notch. Perfect size. Beautiful chewiness. Sublime flavor. And then the spreads are extraordinary. Such delicate, beautiful flavors. On top of that, there are spectacular sandwiches. I love the one with the wild mushrooms. The staff is lovely as well. Very special place. Highly recommend.

So my fiancé and I moved from NYC a little over a year ago now. I’ve lived in the city for over 15 years and have eaten some of the best bagels in the world. I also grew up in Long Island and worked at a bagel store when I was a kid. Not for nothing, I know my bagels. My fiancé and I found it so weird, while we’re still living in NY why it was so hard to find a good bagel?! We’re upstate in Dutchess County only 2 hrs from the city, so it really didn’t make much sense. Insert FANTZYE BAGELS. Wow, just wow. We drove 40 min from where we live to try these bagels. Absolutely worth it. The vibe, atmosphere, and Bagels are out of this world. Honestly, better than bagels in the city. The bagel was so good my fiancé is now contemplating wanting to move to Kingston now. That’s how good they are! Also the owner was extremely nice, friendly, personable and greeted us with a big smile. Will be back!

Another Fantzye Bagels (392 Hasbrouck Ave) day, here in Kingston. This time, stacked with meaty mushrooms and scallion cream cheese. I actually find myself craving these bagels. Nothing as crusty or crispy around. Pretty good coffee too!

After successfully developing and testing the concept for Fantzye Bagels on Martha’s Vineyard during the pandemic, Elana has once again exceeded expectations with the Kingston location. This beautifully designed space is both welcoming and thoughtfully curated, offering a menu that caters to a wide range of tastes and dietary needs. As someone with Alpha-gal syndrome, I have to be extremely cautious about what I eat — especially when dining out. I ordered the lox with vegan cream cheese and am thrilled to share that I experienced no reaction whatsoever. It’s rare to find a place that takes dietary restrictions this seriously while still delivering flavor and quality. The team, including expert baker Abby, brings their culinary creations to life six days a week with evident passion and care. I visited on June 1st and was immediately impressed by the clean, inviting atmosphere. The gentle hum of contented patrons enjoying their meals was a clear sign of a well-loved establishment. Fantzye’s premium drink offerings and house-made coffee beverages are the perfect complement to the inventive and satisfying food coming out of the kitchen. A true gem in Kingston — Fantzye Bagels is a place where quality, creativity, and inclusivity come together beautifully.

Absolutely amazing spot! The quality of the products here is top-notch, fresh, flavorful, and made with real care. You can taste the difference in every bite. Whether you’re grabbing a classic bagel with cream cheese or one of their specialty sandwiches, everything is consistently excellent. Don’t miss out on this place, it’s a must visit if you are in the area!

The espresso was perfectly extracted and flavorful, thanks to Sophia, who clearly knows her coffee! The lighting was soft and beautiful, with colorful bouquets of dried flowers on the tables and big street-facing windows. I will definitely come back 💕

Was super excited to try this place because there is a severe lack of good bagels in the Hudson Valley. We were shocked at how incredibly rude the staff were. We greeted them with a “good morning” and “how are you” and they just blankly stared back. Cashier had zero interest in helping us answer questions, and they dont even ask you questions about your order like whether or not you’d like your bagel toasted. Bagels came out and tasted at least 24 hours old as they were tough to chew. Staff doesn’t seem at all interested in building a clientele, just interested in giving off that cold Bushwick vibe. Super disappointed and unfortunately won’t be back.

Yelp
I read an article that this new bagel shop was set to open just around the end of November 2024 Unlike traditional New York style bagels. This shop makes their bagels by hand. Sourdough bagels you can get your bagel with plain cream cheese or one of their three flavored cream cheeses I figured I'd go in and just order a few bagels to go and one of their containers of cream cheese I parked and went in. The Shop was quite busy with a lot of people sitting at the tables eating. It was 1:30 PM about an hour before closing time. I was greeted warmly with a nice smile from the young lady behind the counter. She asked what would I like? I told her three bagels without anything on them. One poppyseed bagel, everything and plain. She said I put two extra bagels in your bag. Perhaps they did this because it was getting close to closing time. I asked what the most popular flavored cream cheese was. She said the lemon caper so I got an 8 ounce container Each of the bagels were priced at $3. Which is about double the price of a traditional New York style bagel at some of the popular bagel shops in Kingston. The flavored cream cheese was also pricier here than another bagel shop that I like in Kingston that's been there for several years I drove home and was eager to try one of the bagels with the cream cheese I looked in the bag and saw they did indeed add two extra bagels to my order. I sliced the bagel and put on the lemon caper cream cheese. I picked up the bagel and took a few bites. Bagel itself had a very nice sourdough flavor a bit tangy but a very good balance. The bagel had a moist consistency that I haven't noticed when getting fresh New York style bagels. The lemon caper cream cheese was fantastic. Just the right balance between the lemon and the caper. Neither flavor overpowered the other. I must say that I really liked the sourdough flavor of the bagel more than I thought I would. Just because it's not a "traditional New York bagel" shouldn't stop you from getting a sourdough bagel here The price,if you have the bagel in the shop are definitely more than the other bagel shops in town $6 for a " Schmeer" on a bagel, which means cream cheese, plain or flavored $10.00 for "the classic" a egg with cheese, aïoli and greens. If you want to add bacon, that's an extra. $4. Making it $13. So I can understand people feeling that these prices are pretty high. So I suggest going in and getting 3-4 bagels at a time. So you can enjoy the fresh taste of them. Get an 8 ounce container of either the plain or flavored cream cheese. So in conclusion, I would definitely recommend the sourdough bagels here. They're different but very very good. High-quality ingredients for sure for the bagel and the cream cheese. I'll probably come back and try one of the breakfast sandwiches with the greens and the aïoli and pick a choice of cheese

Yelp
My NYC bagel-loving friend Jane, has a better handle at keeping me in the loop with new restaurant openings in my area....than I do. On Hasbrouck Ave in Kingston, NY, Fantzye is a chilled-out and airy spot. Seating is decent- just cross your fingers for a table if you happen to come here Sat+Sun. Despite Fantzye's mid-range rating, I still made time to come here after noticing their menu. Plus, Bagel+Lox has had a strong hold on me for a while now. There are other combinations, like the 2 fried eggs+cheddar+aioli (you can omit) sandwich, the Veggie Delight or meat based like the Pastrami and others. Ordering is smooth and considering I just popped up in here, my Bagel+Lox with a sliver of cream cheese request was done ASAP. My sandwich was hefty and topped with a parsley+big amount of dill in a delicate dressing that seeped in the bread. Honestly, it didn't make the bread soggy at all. While the bagel had very little crisp on the outside, Fantzye's are also the chunky type. You, might find them comfortingly doughy. My hot chocolate (or hot cocoa) was creamy- but it missed a rich dose of cocoa and for $5, I expected better. Bagels are pricy here. I get it I'm not in the city where a bagel could run at least $1.50- even when you go to the many fame bagel spots in The BX- but $3 a pop here is way out of my league. And $20 for a Bagel+Lox? The only other place I can think of is in Dobbs Ferry, NY where Liebman's would make a gargantuan $30 bagel+lox; I could actually make 3 sandwiches out that one. Ventilation needs adjustment. Service is friendly though.

Yelp
When I heard there was a new bagel spot opening in Kingston I had to check it out. Handmade Sourdough bagels with fancy schmear sounds right up my alley. The location isn't the best for parking but it didn't take too long to find on street parking. The space is light and welcoming five tables to sit at and a small bar for counter service as well. The staff member working the register was polite and welcoming. I wish I had better things to say about the bagel and the coffee, but it was just not my kind of bagel. Iced mocha that I would have sworn had no coffee in it at all. Everything bagel was really nicely seasoned, I love when the whole outside of the bagel is covered in toppings but the texture of the bagel was not for me. Chewy to the point of almost being difficult to chew. Scallion cream cheese was the best part of the meal. Overall, not a bad bagel just not the one I would pick out of the many available spots in Kingston

Yelp
Fantastic "everything" bagel with the beet/horseradish schmear! Bagel was crispy on the outside, chewy and delicious on the inside. It was nice to sit and chat with other diners on a cold Saturday morning. The place was hopping! One request -- maybe play quiet jazz or a mellower mix of music. Looking forward to returning!

Yelp
Love this spot! Unique sourdough style bagels with amazing cream cheese. You can tell they use higher quality ingredients than the average bagel place. Bright airy space, nice layout for hanging out with friends. Love that they serve to-stay orders with ceramic plates and cute mugs.

Yelp
Fantastic addition to the Kingston food scene. Bagels were exactly spot on. They serve Parlor roasting coffee - also superb. The space is well thought out and comfortable. Folks behind the counter were pleasant and accomodating ... food came out quickly. I had the big lox and my partner went with the delicious egg and bacon. Will be back.

Yelp
Fantzye bagels is delicious and we're super excited to have them in the neighborhood after watching them build out the space this last year! Beautiful food and coffee, amazing attention to detail, and efficient service - especially since they've only been open for about a week and have been slammed every day!! I love sunrise and some of the other cheaper options around, but don't mind paying for a fancy bagel once in a while. It's just a different category of food, and worth the price. Especially knowing that they pay the staff well and use really high quality ingredients. Welcome!!

Yelp
Nice chewy bagel, really enjoy the Gouda & Fantzye. Since they're new, staff is doing the best they can with the amount of business they're getting, I'm sure they'll find their footing. The ambience is pleasant, warm art deco crossed with an airy farmhouse vibe. They get great light in the morning, grab one of the prime window spots to enjoy your bagel and coffee.

Yelp
$17 for 6 Bagels. Mediocre at best. Ambiance, okay. Please go back to the boroughs. This is another hipster cafe, with extremely overpriced food and drink.

Yelp
I was Happy and excited to watch them Building, but Oh so disappointed ! These are not the Classic Bagels I grew up with in NYC , H&H , Ess-a- Bagel nothing like a true Bagel ( yes ,I get it "Sourdough"(?) no Schmears, no regular Salads. The Prices are way above what anyone should pay for a bagel ($3.00!) and $20 bucks for a small smoked fish salad! I don't know who they are targeting as customers. If you want another Overpriced Hipster stop , yes, but Waaaay to Fantzye for me! Give me Lox of Bagels anyday! Real NY style , 2 bagels and 1/4 lb of delicious tuna for under $8 bucks!!
