Far Out - Review - East Dallas - Dallas - The Infatuation

"The lone restaurant on an industrial strip of far East Dallas, this is maybe the best dining experience you can have inside a metal Quonset hut next to a succulent garden. The vibe is kind of like Marfa, but not in an annoying way, and all the potted plants lining the white walls keep it cheerful inside. The cocktails are fine here, but they didn’t blow us away, so we’d rather sip some tequila or a crisp black pepper pilsner at the horseshoe-shaped bar. If you’re staying for dinner, the juicy Texas tomatoes with crispy pig ear are a surprisingly refreshing way to eat pork. Follow that up with the tri-tip steak. It’s marbled to an almost melting tenderness and comes with a fluffy potato cake you won’t want to share. photo credit: Andrew Ryce photo credit: Andrew Ryce photo credit: Andrew Ryce photo credit: Andrew Ryce photo credit: Andrew Ryce Pause Unmute RESERVE A TABLE" - Kevin Gray

Dallas Chef Misti Norris Takes Culinary Director at New Restaurant | Eater Dallas

"A neighborhood-focused restaurant housed in the space formerly known as Wriggly Tin, this operation recruited Misti Norris as culinary director after she closed her prior restaurant. The project emphasizes community engagement—building a greenhouse and programming for the outer neighborhoods—and values a tight-knit staff culture rather than a corporate model. Working with a compact kitchen and an unconventional three-deck pizza oven, the team reimagined a menu that moves beyond flatbreads and wings toward more sustainable, bolder flavors; an example is a steak-and-potatoes plate that riffs on steak frites with an herbed, crispy potato cake, Texas wagyu tri-tip marinated in koji, cognac and soy, a French onion–style sauce, herb salad from Profound Microfarms, and grated Gruyère. Norris is positioning herself as a mentor and consultant there, retaining freedom to pursue pop-ups and other concepts while helping to train younger cooks and stabilize the business." - Courtney E. Dinner date tonight at Far Out in Dallas, Texas. I have had this place on a list to visit for several months waiting for the perfect day. Today was the right day, having a cool evening temperature coupled with being in the area at the right time for dinner. We opted for four dishes and a couple of drinks, all were great and not overly filling so each could be enjoyed. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu that changes regularly. The location is not a hotspot for great food and drinks but the food is what you would expect from Uptown, West Village, Bishop Arts or Knox-Henderson areas. #dallas #dallasrestaurants #faroutdallas

We finally got the chance to check out Far-Out Dallas, where Misti Norris and several of her team members from Petra and the Beast are currently at. We have been huge fans of Misti's food since dining at the orignal Petra location. The food was delicious! No, it's not cheap. But we really enjoyed everything we tried last night. We're in East Dallas near the Arboretum, and it was a quick 8 - 10 minute drive from our house, which is awesome! Far-Out will definitely be one of our regular go to restaurants!

First time in Dallas and Far-Out was our very first stop and it did NOT miss. The vibe is chill, fun, and perfect for friends and family to hang out. We tried a few small plates and my top picks were: • Cured fish with crunchy cumin unreal flavor • Lemongrass duck confit salad with crispy pork big, fresh, and so tasty • Smothered Texas chuck flap rich, balanced, and a must-try < I love side salad that served with steak I’m seriously so impressed and the cute little garden next to Hermanita House just adds to the magic. Dallas people… go check this place out. 💯

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫☄️ The small plates are excellent with great presentation, and the cocktails are creative and delicious. I had the duck confit salad, dumplings, and fig cheesecake — each one was fantastic. The menu changes frequently, which makes me look forward to coming back and trying something new. 11/10 experience!

Far out is an upscale casual dining experience with rotating menus, "just right" portions that are presented in a passionate manner. The theme and atmosphere is unlike any other I've experienced in Dallas. The outside has a desert, rustic and modern vibe to it with the inside transitioning into a more intimate setting by utilizing dim lighting, comfortable seating and a rounded construction that molds the decor and style all together. The service was great and our seating preferences were catered to. We were checked on several times to see if we needed anything. Ashley took great care of us. You can see the chefs in the kitchen working smoothly to get every order out in a timely and careful manner. The kitchen has last call around 8:30-8:45pm and the closes while the bar remains open, currently, until 12pm or until zoning laws change. I was told its a very lively vibe during the weekends where they also close at 12pm. The food was very eloquently presented and crafted to be delicious and extraordinary, which is definitely was. We highly recommend the chips and hummus. The chips were crunchy and toasty and very well seasoned. The chili hummus paired nicely. The chuck slab I had was very tender and paired well with the ingredients they chose which, going based off memory, was a delicious cheese that reminded me of blue cheese, mint, parsley, red onions a special sauce and a fried potato mash that was fried on the outside and was shaped like a stick of butter. The fried egg plant was delicious too and was very appealing to my girlfriend who is used to typical vegetarian/vegan dishes such as some carb with cheese, pasta or a salad. This dish was very creative and satisfied her appetite. Overall, the flavors blended together very well, staff were very welcoming, they offer non alcoholic craft beverages and the outside lounge area is great, cacti filled area, for an after dinner chill spot for photos or relaxing. It makes you anticipate what they may have next on the menu. Come check it out, it's a little spot that you wouldn't know offered as much as it does.

Update: Back for the third time and I love how their menu is always different! Still as amazing as the first time I came. Truly one of the best restaurants in Dallas right now. Atmosphere feels like Santa Fe/Austin vibes. The food is high quality and affordable, you can definitely see Misti’s style come through. The menu rotates but the tostado was my favorite! Excellent service and good people. This is the kind of place I just want to chill at on summer nights!

I visited Far Out today and absolutely loved it. The dishes are unlike anything you usually find—they’re beautifully presented and bursting with incredible flavors. Prices are very reasonable, the service is outstanding, and the place itself is magical, with different areas and unique atmospheres. Mr. Jeffers, the owner, is a great man—he’s the first to put on an apron and be present in every space, making sure everything runs perfectly. That’s what real leadership looks like. We even had a brief conversation, and he’s truly a great guy. I’ll definitely be back soon, and I highly recommend everyone to visit this amazing spot.

Hole In The Wall, Sleeper venue. This place will be a giant when people find out about it. My youngest played live here tonight and this is how we found it. The motif is like a cactus palace which carries through the visuals as well as the menu. The small but cozy/homey restaurant and bar are in what appears to be an old hanger and is inside. Outside is a huge music venue space and cactus garden. When we arrived we sat at the bar and was greeted by Adam who was able to make some excellent appetizer suggestions of White Bean Dip and Smoked Empanadas to get us started were perfect. The Watermelon Margaritas and The Ranch Martini were fantastic. We retired outside to watch a live music performance by Kade Miller @kadeometer was exceptional. She played and sang two sets and it was fantastic. 100% Phenomenal Experience tonight. We will be bac...

Yelp
After being bummed when finding out the latest rendition of "Petra and the Beast" had closed, I was happy to not only come across "Far Out" in my search for a unique dining spot, but also that Chef Misti Norris was at the helm! It also appeared unique enough to make up for the slew of "not exactly the same, but way too similar" spots popping up all over DFW that seem to cater to a specific crowd who maybe care more about atmosphere and getting the best social media photos than what they're actually eating. I knew with Misti as chef, the food would be the highlight! But that doesn't mean the atmosphere isn't fantastic! Very unique and unlike any other spot you'll go to in Dallas. If only it was later at night and/or cooler to take advantage of the otherwise inviting patio! "Cry Wolf"--another place that unfortunately closed--was the last restaurant I'd been to with this type of uniqueness. "Far Out" is an as good of if not better alternative! Menu is small, but everything tasted was incredible. The frozen watermelon margarita with a "mood enhancing shot of Buddi Coco" was so mood enhancing that I had two! And I'm not usually into fruit-flavored, frozen margaritas. Service by Daniel C was perfect. Spot-on with all recommendations including the marg. The plentiful, self-parking lot felt safe. Can't wait for a return visit!

Yelp
The ambiance of the restaurant was super nice and Emma was such a great waiter and a sweetheart. However the food was just not it. For instance we ordered the eggplant, the chicken entree and the dumplings... literally lacked seasoning. However the drinks were amazing. Would be a great dessert restaurant or bar. However, would not come here if you were starving. I unfortunately looked forward to this place and had to stop at Taco Bell afterwards.

Yelp
Unfortunately the food did not "wow" me or my friend. Yes, the ingredients were fresh but that is about it. We ordered the entire menu minus the 2 chicken dinners. The menu is seasonal so we did not get a chance to taste the pasta. It seemed as if a lot of dishes were heavy cream based. Plus, I like a bit more flavor. I probably enjoyed the fried pig ear dish the most. My fish did enjoy the steak dish. The service was meh. We asked for the plates to be timed and they kept all coming at once. It was like they wanted to rush us out of the place. We had to say more than once to slow down and not bring 3 dishes at a time. Then we asked for the last dish and waiter asked if we still wanted it. Just strange Now the decor was very nice. It is relaxed and desert feel.

Yelp
The painkiller drink was good. The chicken was ok. The scallop crudo was ok. The pork dish was disappointing. The toughest part was the them not giving itemized checks for the entire table.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
I love this place. I've been a few times and I am never disappointed. There is always something exciting about a changing seasonal menu- it's fun and fresh and a culinary adventure. It's a chill vibe, relaxed. I can't wait to come back for the next menu!

Yelp
Feels like you're stepping right into Terlingua. There's ample outdoor seating with some tables and a bar inside. All the food and drinks we had were so good, I was a little surprised. The white bolognese is honestly to die for.

Yelp
What a dope spot! I tried a million of their drinks and they were all amazing! I didn't get a chance to try their food but it looked soo good - I need to go back asap! The space is beautifully decorated. Feels like you're in Austin and the service is great. I'm so excited for more time here!

Yelp
Far Out blew me away. One of the coolest spots I've been to! The vibes were unreal, the service was great, the aesthetic was a visual dream, and the food? Absolutely delicious. Every detail was perfect. The exterior is a total showstopper, and the inside is just as stunning. Truly a 10/10 experience from start to finish.

Yelp
Great vibes, especially for plant lovers. Food was good and unexpected, drinks were great. They change the menu often making it fun to return. Looking forward to fall on this patio!

Yelp
Located in an industrial area a few blocks away from Fair Park, Far Out boasts an East Austin-style buildout centered around a converted Quonset hut and an expansive garden. The menu is overseen by James Beard finalist chef Misti Norris (formerly of Petra and the Beast), acting as culinary director, and shares Petra's approach of offering small, shareable plates constructed around sophisticated flavors. Concepts here are often aligned around unique takes inspired by but not directly taking from Texas and Tex-Mex standards, such as a deep-fried heritage eggplant that was reminiscent of a chili relleno. Friendly and personable service at the front of the house complement the excellent food, and cocktails are thoughtfully constructed. An unusual oasis in a somewhat hard to find area, Far Out is absolutely worth the visit.

Yelp
Service 5 stars Ambiance 5 stars Food 5 stars Value 5 stars Far-Out is an incredible experience. Visited with my wife for our anniversary. Food was outstanding. We had the Tri-Tip wagu, bibb salad with bacon & fried onions, three drinks, & cobbler for only $106. Service was top-notch as well. Don't let the address concern you. It's like two minutes from Lakewood in East Dallas. Huge parking lot so no valet charge. Cool vibe. Check. It. Out.

Yelp
Wanted to try the white bean dip and the mushrooms. I asked a waiter if we could place a to go order and he said yes at the bar. My husband and I went to the bar and ask if we could place an order to go and was told no. I said one of the waiters told us we could. The bartender asked which one and I pointed the guy out. I located the waiter that told us we could place a to go order at the bar and told him what was being said. He said he would find out. I saw him ask another guy which I'm assuming was a manager and he said not at this time. My review is to express my disappointment of not being able to place a to go order. Maybe post it on the website or on the menu.

Yelp
Have you also been vaguely depressed since Petra and the Beast closed down? Have no fear for she has risen. And is now the chef at Far Out. Her flavors and fresh ingredients are as good as ever. Menu changes monthly at least, based on best ingredients available. The space is gorgeous, littered with plants and their outdoor space is in its beautiful infancy but it will be an absolute oasis once the climbing plants are all fully grown. Live music Thursday nights. DJ Friday and Saturdays. Service is impeccable. A member of our party can't do dairy or so and our server went through every single item on the menu to say which we could have and which could be modified.

Yelp
Eat here now.. do not wait, do not pass go.. EAT HERE NOW! Atmosphere, staff, FOOD... MAGNIFICENT!!! Great concept, great vision... pure greatness!! You're welcome... ENJOY PEOPLE!

Yelp
Such a unique and fun spot! Food is fresh & seems to be rotating every so often, there will always be something new to try. Drinks are also very tasty! But the main attraction is the ambiance and outdoor area, especially when there is live music!

Yelp
We loved Wriggly Tin so when the team reopened it as Far Out we had to check it out and it did not disappoint. The decor has been updated to dessert chic and the massive patio area is full of desert plants. Inside has the same beautiful windows and great mood lighting. Our servers were all amazing and they sit with you to go over the menu which is a fun little twist. Cocktails are delicious. Highly recommend the Southbound Smash for a refreshing drink that's a fun play on cucumbers and gin. Most of the liquor here is sourced from local to Texas distillers which is awesome. Now for the food, Misti Norris was just named the new director of cuisine the day we went in so we don't know if this is her menu or if it'll change, but everything we had was truly amazing. The white bean deep with chili oil I could eat by the pound. I appreciated that the dishes were numbered to make them easier to order. We had the tomatoes with pig ears dish and it was so tasty yet unique. The smothered tri tip was perfectly tinder and the potato cake to die for. Our total bill for 2 people ordering 4 cocktails and 3 dishes after tip was $110, so not bad for Dallas. Looking forward to coming back on a Thursday when they do live music on the patio. Weekends they have DJs and a laser show was just beginning as we were leaving around 9:45.

Yelp
We were looking for a quick bite and drink before the show at music hall and boy did we get lucky. While there were some other popular options that were walking distance from the venue, the vibe and menu here looked so unique that it's worth the short drive! Little did we know that Dallas Legend Chef Misti Norris (From Petra and the beast) is running the kitchen here at the moment and you know it's going to be good. While the menu currently is small, it is so darn good. We started off with the fish tostadas which were just so delicious and crunchy while letting the fish shine on its own, we had to order seconds! The potato costra while it looks strange almost like a chocolate bar covered in cheese, is also excellent and a rich addition to the menu (a nice plate to share for the table). The ribs were so unique, apparently sous vide and then cooked to a nice crisp these were so yummy and savory. To end the meal, they served a seasonal strawberry cobble with a thyme whip which was ridiculously good and a perfect way to end the meal without feeling too full. Drinks were good, servers were friendly and caring and the vibe both interior and exterior is just so pleasant. Go here before everyone finds out !!! Also welcome back Chef Misti !

Yelp
Alex is absolutely outstanding. I wanna say not only does he represent the restaurant but he is like an ambassador. He's so passionate about the environment What you guys serve and really just made the experience for us. We even had him surprise us with a couple different things and it was just great . The restaurant itself is absolutely stunning. We came close to sunset and wow just absolutely breathtaking. The food itself is amazing and the drinks were fantastic and they even had like a little greenery area outside. Listen to music 10 out of 10 will be coming back. Thank you Alex.

Yelp
Talk about ambiance.. great outdoor seating options as well as indoor. Fun drinks and fun vibes with a live dj. My friend and I were able to catch some seats at the bar, but reservations are highly recommended if you wanted to have a table to sit.

Yelp
10/10!! The vibes were amazing, and service was spectacular. The bar staff was so thoughtful and ontop of anticipating our needs. There was a DJ on the outside patio and the perfect spot for a cocktail!

Yelp
Wow, great everything. We went early without a reservation and got seated right away. They have a smaller menu (and smaller plates) that use a lot of locally grown items. We got the Bean dip, the salad, the ribs and the fried porchetta. We also had this blackberry buttermilk pie type dessert that was super good. Everything was delicious! Service was on point, we met the owner, nice guy. They have a huge outdoor area. Will be back!

Kelly P.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of dining here one early Saturday evening. I was unable to get a reservation before hand, but my party arrived early in the evening and was able to be seated right away. We ordered some yummy cocktails and perused the menu. The menu isn't extensive, but I appreciate that because it shows me what they feature has been curated carefully. One of the featured dishes was a fundraiser for a member of their community. I love it when a business supports their local community. We ordered five plates between the two of us and shared them all. I was especially impressed with the buttermilk blueberry tart. It was amazing. I noticed patrons walking in and getting personal greetings and/or hugs from the staff. I could tell that these regulars didn't just come for the food, but for the warm welcoming environment as well. It was as if Far-Out was home away from home for them. I know that if I lived close, it would be one of my favorite hang out spots. We will be back and will bring our friends.

Savannah B.

Yelp
Love this spot! Great food and drinks. Kind wait staff. Came during a crowded time pre concert and fully enjoyed it.

Stuart H.

Yelp
Yeah, my wife and I only go to Far Out when we're looking for someplace to go to eat and drink our faces off and have an amazing time. It's a party every time we've visited. At least, that's what everyone there makes it feel like. The food is as imaginative as it is delicious, and the drinks are too good!

Lindsay C.

Yelp
Incredible place with awesome food and amazing vibes. The restaurant is beautiful inside and outside and even had a dj on Friday night. Will be back!
google avatar

Olivia C.

Yelp
Love this gem of a place; from the service to the rotating menu and absolutely nailing what an outdoor patio needs to feel like. Worth the trek off the normal restaurant path.

Erica E.

Yelp
The menu is less than 15 items. Changes often and very unique BUT expensive. I liked the menu had mushroom options. The dessert was over $15 and was a deconstructed peach cobbler. Crumble, peaches and a scoop of cream 3 items and underwhelming too expensive so pass on dessert. The drink I ordered looked cute but was too sweet. I added water to it. Service was friendly but lacking by the end of the meal our server was MIA and apparently there is a last call- he didn't inform us or ask if we wanted to make any last orders. Instead we wanted dessert and were told kitchen closed 5 min ago he will see what he can do? Seems like something customers should know before kitchen closes. Ambiance lots of green plants very hipster plant shop vibe.

Georgia M.

Yelp
The food and ambiance were truly the best I've ever experienced. This is Dallas' best kept secret. The menu has slightly changed each time we come and everything we have leaves us speechless. I never do reviews but truly this place deserves to blow up.

Brooke B.

Yelp
Craveable cocktails, perfectly delicious tapas and such a bright & super fun vibe. Hope it's here for a while.

Bianca G.

Yelp
Super helpful staff, and Such a vibe. Love the Fun, desert oasis vibe they have created here. I had the watermelon margarita, def felt even more vibes halfway through it if you know what I mean!
