Recently opened where the old 8 Burger joint used to be and next to Union Beer, whose owners are the ones opening this place, we now have a new pizza joint in Calle Ocho. One of my colleagues went and loved it especially the Ocho slice with a garlic sauce, and topped with ham, onions, and a lime to squeeze, yes you read correctly, a lime wedge. Apparently the lime adds a very unique flavor when mixed with the garlic sauce. Went with a friend and sure enough, this is a very unique blend of flavors and one that sets this little place apart.
I opted for the pepperoni and it was one of the better pepperoni slices I’ve had in town, not the best by any means. I also tried the meat lovers and this was a better slice for me. The ingredient that makes it different in a good way and adds some acidity to the slice are the yellow peppers. Perhaps this would be my go to next time. They have some pies sitting in a glass case until you order and then it’s placed and heated in the oven. Not sure if that’s always the case but I usually prefer seeing it made from scratch, you know, like tossing the dough, spreading the sauce, adding some cheese and toppings and then seeing go into the fire but that wasn’t the case here, unfortunately. It’s a decent slice of pizza and I’d say maybe and only maybe the Ocho and meat lovers slices would be the only reason to come back, just my opinion. Service was great and prices are adequate for area and portions.
