An amazing selection of mushrooms anyone can dream of. Fresh, dried and powder mushrooms galore!!! My favorite shiitake Jerky is found here and will be enjoyed in my next sandwich. This whole market is packed during holiday season so I recommend going early to beat the tourist crowds. One day I will buy the beautiful black truffles from these guys, is the price ever goes down. Large assortment of fungi and mushrooms, ranging from wood ear and wasabi to truffles and matsutake. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about how to store and cook shrooms, as well as how long they last.

I was finally able to time a visit here with my return home and brought home a bag of delicious chanterelle mushrooms. Chanterelles were plentiful where my mom grew up in Poland and she has very fond memories of foraging in the woods for them with her cousins and bringing them home so my grandma could cook them into a delicious gravy for dinner. Here in the US midwest they're definitely harder to find, and I personally did not try them until we visited Poland together in my early 20s. And let me tell you, she was RIGHT. They're incredible. Now, 20 years later after that first meal, I long for them just as much as she does. The good news is that with the growth of speciality grocers we seem them a bit more often here but the bad news is they're still hard enough to come by that they can range anywhere from $40-60 a pound. So it's truly a celebratory moment anytime we've found them for sale at a reasonable price. So I see these at Far West Fungi, just a few hours before I hop on my plane home. $10 a box. Still steep for mushrooms but much cheaper than I've encountered at home in the last few years. I picked up two boxes, enough for my mom and I to make and split for a batch of the family's mushroom gravy (although in retrospect I wish I had gotten more). The nice folks there rang me up and I packed them safely into my carry on, delicately transporting them them on a plane back to Michigan where the next day we were excitedly cooked them up and enjoyed them ladled over some creamy homemade mashed potatoes. We were both so happy. And I had a lovely feeling of connection with beloved grandma who passed away just a couple of years ago. It was very special. That's the magical thing about food, right? Most folks would probably just see a stand inside a big beautiful building selling fancy mushrooms. But to others, businesses like this can provide a tether to family and traditions that have passed. And I'm grateful that I was able to, ever so briefly, hitch myself to their tether. I look forward to the next time I'm able to visit and do it again (and I'll be sure to bring a bigger carry on).

Awesome fungi shop at the ferry building! They have a wide variety of fungi for sell and at great value/prices!!! There is a reason this shop is always filled! Try out the fungi jerky, it truly tastes and feels like meat jerky. Samples available, just ask! Def check out the seasonal box, a bundle of seasonal fungi at an excellent price. I always pick up at least 1 box of the seasonal bundle when I visit!

Love their selection of fresh and dried mushrooms and mushroom products (tinctures etc). You can also find their products sold in local specialty grocery stores around the bay, like Berkeley Bowl. But it's nice to just go here and pick up boxes of in-season and fresh mushroom varieties for gourmet meals.

Wonderful small mushroom store in the ferry building. Such a large variety fresh wild mushrooms. Also appreciated their mushroom tinctures although the prices are painfully aggressive and high. Nonetheless the product is good quality.

Having a party and needed mushrooms including black truffles to shave on pasta. They also have truffle salt and oils here. Non-pushy staff, quick service, and a good selection. It is pricey but that's because you're paying for quality. They also have a ton of other mushrooms here if you're looking to make pasta.

These fresh mushrooms, which are fun to look at, and that much are super fun to design dishes around--king trumpet, maitake, morel, baby shiitake, shimeji, cordycep and lion's to name a few are all CCOF certified organic. Far West Fungi also sells some conventionally grown mushrooms from a nearby farm. Beyond the fresh mushrooms there are dried mushrooms, mushroom powders and mushroom tinctures. I was delighted to see this specialty shop in the Ferry Building. Honestly, there should be one of these everywhere! The second time I went there was a gaggle of Chefs in full Chef coats and hats on a field trip and that is a sign of quality products if I do say so myself! The staff was able to answer all my questions and give wonderful recommendations on how to most effectively use the mushrooms for the purpose I needed. TBH I just love all mushrooms in all forms, so being able to purchase some to cook but also in tinctures and dried for medicinal purposes is a win-win.

I love mushrooms and was super excited to find this place to see what other exotic mushrooms I could find. They offer pre-packaged mushrooms in brown paper bags and are quite decently priced as well. They also offer dried mushrooms and grow kits, It was a fun experience just walking around the shop to see what was offered.

Live Worms came out of Morel mushroom I've had this same problem a couple years ago at this same store. I thought things might get better as I brought it up to the staff back then. This is horrible to see those little white worms moving inside the mushroom! You have to cut it open and see carefully. AfterI washed five/six times! They were still there, living inside the mushroom ... I didn't know why I bot this again... I purchased it on 7/28 and stored them in fridge. Maybe I should eat them right away? But does that mean I also ate those worms , or eggs of worms... ?? I like this mushroom store and most of their mushrooms are all very fresh. However, what's going with this type of mushroom?

I wanted to try out fresh black truffles and this seems like the only place in SF selling. At the store I bought two 1oz black truffles ($20/oz). One had mold growing on it, and both had very little flavor. I guess I should've saw this coming given the price point? Would come back for the black truffle olive oil though.

Well aware of my obsession with mushrooms, my bestie suggested a stop at Far West Fungi when discussing my recent trip to San Francisco. As it is located in the Ferry Building, take a couple hours to stroll around and check out all the fun stores here! Now, this darling shop is so much more than mushrooms, but let's start with 'em. You can snatch up fresh, dried, or powdered varieties, even mushroom jerky and caramels! Ever on the hunt for candy caps, I easily located some here. Also, mushroom posters and dishtowels, mugs, and various gifts for the fungi lovers in your life. You will also find salts, seasonings, gourmet food supplies and treats. There is a small open display of fresh seasonal produce, and even a case of rarer treasures: several truffle varieties, finger limes (all the hearts), and FRESH WASABI. Lesson time: Like 95% of wasabi in the US is actually tinted horseradish. Yes, even at nicer sushi joints. Well aware of this, I've tracked down powdered wasabi at health food stores. I looked into growing my own, or even having it shipped from the one wasabi farm in the US. Far West is the only place I have EVER seen the actual fresh root. And as a bonus, you can store it in water in your refrigerator, and it will last a few weeks! Just grate off the amount required as needed. It was packed on my visit, but employees were nice and helpful. Prices may feel a tad high, but not for what you get and the availability of such difficult to source products. And when you're looking at signs for food priced at $10 an ounce, or $200 per pound, keep in mind that most of those things are very small and aren't really going to cost that much. I treat myself to truffles about once a month, and can usually obtain one for $15-$50. If you're worried, just ask! Employees will be happy to let you know the average cost of these exceptional goodies, and you'll probably be surprised. Basically, if you are searching for high quality rare, specialty, or foraged produce (mushrooms or otherwise!), Far West Fungi is THE place to go.

Mushroom lovers rejoice! This is the shop for you. Wish we had this store in NYC. Fortunately, they do sell all their products online. I love coming here and looking at all their cool varieties of mushrooms. If I lived in SF, I would buy all the different types weekly and cook them regularly. Other than fresh mushrooms, they have all sorts of other products based on the edible fungi, including seasonings, jerkies, and much more. If you ever stop by the Ferry Building while in SF, make sure you leave yourself a good bit of time to checkout this cool little shop.

I found FWF while visiting the Ferry Building several years ago and was so happy with their dried mushrooms I have ordered from them online multiple times. You may think that they are expensive initially but I have never found any dried mushrooms that are close to the caliber that these are. I use porcinis quite often and these are beyond wonderful - and if you cook a lot they are actually cheaper in the long run. I highly recommend them!

I've been searching far and wide for fresh truffles in Silicon Valley. They are tough fungi to find ;( I don't venture to San Francisco that often, but happened to be visiting the Fisherman's Wharf area one weekend. Lo and behold, this shop touts mushrooms of all sorts. Awesome variety -- it's guaranteed you'll find at least one new type of mushroom that you've never seen or heard of before. There are cool bundles and sampler packs of mushrooms that you can get that include a bunch of different types. Seems like a great deal, so I'll definitely be back for that. The truffles are kept near the cashier in the glass counter. Both white and black truffles are available :D

I have been watching this company on IG forever. while visiting my sister, I visited the ferry building and picked up a pink mushroom kit. It actually turned out to be a white oyster mushroom kit. This was my first time ever with a mushroom kit and I was honestly waiting for them to turn pink. I thought maybe they grew white then suddenly turned pink LOL. I feel so bad I kept letting batches die thinking they would grow more and flash pink. After consulting with the team via email, they actually informed me it was the wrong kit and sent the right one to me here in SoCal. Thank you customer service!

This is an incredible spot at the Ferry Building. Are you a fan of Mushrooms? I most definitely am. I love Mushrooms. This is a Mushrooms Lover's Dream. The Ferry Building is just a flat out great place to browse and get inspired by great food and ingredients. On Saturday Morning it also hosts the single best Farmer's Market in America. Of all the great spots in this building, Far West Fungi really stands out. What a selection! They have have end fresh Mushrooms of all shapes and sizes. They also have a variety of other interesting Mushroom related merchandise. I would make this a must visit if you are at the Ferry Building for the first time. For those that use this as more than a curiosity, you can get some great high end ingredients. One thing to definitely check out Another thing to check out are the kits you can buy to grow Mushrooms at home. Pretty rad. I'll end with this: In addition to Mushrooms, are you also a Jerky Fan? I want everyone who was interested in Yelp should read my review. If you're looking to boost immunity, Far West Fungi is one unique place that never fail to please. I been hearing and reading so much about the epidemic that was spreading even throughout the Day Area at an alarming rate. I'm sure we can overcome this no matter what. Here at Far West Fungi, you find different types of mushrooms, including what's also in the picture of mushrooms from around the world. You see other unique selections to buy such as sea beans, nettle tea leaves, wasabi roots, and fiddlehead ferns. Be sure to buy, WASH, and try them depending on the season, for they'll be gone before they take long to come back. Now for the major mushrooms at the top of my head: chaga, reishi, cordycep, lion's mane, and turkey tail. I barely give out the specifics for the remaining mushrooms. Chaga, king of mushrooms, was what I recognized the most. This antioxidant richness, when brewed the right way with coffee or tea, will detoxify your body as if you came out a new person. I once had Medicinal Mushroom Latte in Beloved Café, and it's truly life-changing. I even had small samples of hot chocolate from the Chaga Company on any Saturdays. Looking for chaga powder tubes? There's one in The Market grocery store. The store clerks are doing a great job keeping patrons like us happy. One Asian guy, who worked at the Prather Ranch Meat Company that has been out of business, had been helping out. I be more than willing to come back and see what I'm dying to purchase.

I would like to recommend this wonderful place of delicious mushrooms. Everyone who works here are very knowledgeable about all kinds of mushrooms, friendly, extremely nice, and caring. I spent about 20-30 minutes just asking them about the different types of mushrooms. The mushrooms have always been fresh and of great quality. I live about 1 hr away from this place and the people here (Carter, Naomi, Preston, and Mike) make it well worth the drive. Keep up the great work!!!!

Wow, summer black truffles for sale at $16/oz. Knowing that these aren't the prized white truffles from Italy, I asked the gal behind the counter a couple questions regarding the fragrance. For summer truffles, she was pretty honest and said that the truffles were good and had a mild aroma of truffles. Additionally, she said you'd have to boost the truffle flavor with truffle dust or salt if you were to shave the room temperature truffles thinly on hot pasta. Alas, I couldn't help myself and bought a 1 oz truffle to shave on my pasta. Another item that I don't see too often was sea beans. In Hawaii, poke contains hard-to-find sea beans. I asked for cooking instructions and the gal said I could eat it raw. Good to know.

At the farmer's market that pops up outside the Ferry Building, Far West Fungi Kitchen presents dishes made using their homegrown mushrooms, and I can definitively say that I've never tasted anything quite like their "crab" salad, which is made entirely of their lion's mane mushrooms! The shredded fungi have a chewy, meaty texture and are mixed with a creamy dressing. I literally could not tell that there was no crab in the crab salad at all--it was simply that convincing! The mixture is served along with celery, sliced almonds, shredded carrots, and roasted portabello mushroom cubes over arugula, all of which were nice complements, making for a nice, healthy lunch! For $9, this salad wasn't particularly cheap but not particularly expensive either, given what else you'll find at the farmer's market!

Excited to grow my lion's mane mushroom [which I just heard of last weekend as useful to keep the crazy away (to keep your mind healthy and strong) which given my Parsi genetics, I need]. Will report back on its progress once I grow it.

One of my fave. Shops in SF. Since I am from NYC I don't see some of the mushrooms they sell here. Everytime I come to SF for work, I would buy some and bring them back. I've tried yellow oyster mushrooms, pink oyster mushrooms, lobster mushrooms, and others I don't remember their names. They are all DELICIOUS! They have so many varieties. You just have to try them all. Can't wait till my next trip there!

I ordered a mushroom growing kit/box. It did not grow mushrooms, just mold. I sent an email with pictures and instagram messages of the defective block. I had several people at far west tell me they would replace it. I had to remind them three times over many weeks about the replacement. It never came. There are a lot of better places to get mushroom blocks, just go some where else, so you don't get ripped off like I did.

The truffle salt is heavenly good! I'm using it for sauces, meat, mashed potatoes, popcorn! Definitely a must buy product.

Their mushrooms are lovely and don't grown in dirt so when you rehydrate them you can use all the jus to make your sauces or risotto etc. They have a nice selection of both fresh and dehydrated mushrooms, truffle and mushroom pate and some salts. Nice stop for your mushrooms!!

I was a little disappointed because the kits I had ordered were not ready for pick-up. But I emailed the team and they had them shipped to my house. I can't wait for my mushrooms to finish growing their first yield!

If you've been inside the Ferry Building and walked past this place in curiosity, you'll never know what you're missing out on. Far West had 2 nice and very knowledgeable staff who guided me through my pickings! I took a Biology class during my undergrad that emphasized on Fungi, and boi!!! is fungus amazing! Coolest fungus I've ever come across was founded by a past professor named Dennis Desjardin aka the Mushroom Guy, who founded Spongiforma squarepantsii or SpongeBob for short, no joke! I love me some mushrooms, and I love me some truffles. This place has both of them in many varieties, shapes, and forms. The ladies here were very nice, helpful and knowledgeable about items sold here. Perusing all the varieties, I've never heard of a Candy Cap Mushroom, and apparently, this mushroom is making its way into sweets and desserts because of its maple-like aroma. I also noticed a Humphrey Slocombe Ice cream freezer in the corner, and coincidentally there was candy cap ice cream that one of the ladies let us sample. MAN, was that GOOD!. You'd never guess that the flavor came from a mushroom!?!? You can also grow your own mushrooms with kits that they sell...How sweet is that!?!? Truffle salt... BEST. SALT. EVER... My friend bought a small 3.5 oz jar of this champion of all salt. The guy at FWF encouraged us to sample a pinch of the stuff as we walked by... SOLD. It has forever skewed my outlook on salt. This is the salt that all salts are judged on. I appreciate my salt. Hawaiian rock salt, sea salt... even Morton iodized salt. But this container of black truffle and sea salt is straight CRACK... Why didn't I buy one?? Stoops. Not cheap. $24.... but damn worth it. Your taste buds will thank you.

I am sipping on my wild harvested Chaga tea as I type this. It sits on my messy desk beside my premium quality Reishi tea. All manifested from Far West Fungi. Great mushroom shop in the Ferry Building. The ladies working there are very helpful and kind. I purchased one mushroom kit and two kinds of mushrooms. The mushrooms we're absolutely delicious, I kept it simple with a butter saute. The kit is a week old now and growing wonderfully. I hope to add other kits soon, they're so cool! Easy to care for, fast growing, highly recommend. I will probably get to start harvesting shiitake mushrooms soon.

This is the place that I HAVE to stop by every time I come to the Ferry Building. Love how many types of mushrooms they carry, it's simply an eye opening experience! I saw so many kinds of rare or otherwise hard to find mushrooms here. The folks are also super nice and friendly and will explain to you in details about each type of mushroom and offer recipes.

This was my favorite place in the entire Pier area! Not only did this awesome little shop have an amazing variety of mushrooms, truffles, and related products, the employee was super knowledgeable and helpful when I asked him for advice. My husband is a huge truffle fan but since I wanted to take him back a local product, I chose the tree oyster jerky. There were samples of the jerky and many other products which definitely helped make the sale! Prices are totally reasonable and I only wish I'd had a bigger budget, more luggage space, and a way to transport perishable items on my flight back home to Hawaii. Ah! I just remembered they told me they have a website. I popped over to look and I'm seriously excited all over again. I can purchase online and have some cool things shipped to me...or to friends/family as gifts. I guess I know what I can stuff in my husband's stocking this Christmas! This is a totally fun(gi) place to stop and shop!

They had me at fungi. Actually, I must confess that I am not a lover of mushrooms, which should give my rating for this little treasure extra weight. I am however a connoisseur of truffle, which in my book is loosely in the mushroom family (like that cool rockstar cousin that you feel proud to be related to). Finding truffle in some parts of the USA can feel like searching for the holy grail, but here in the quaint little Ferry Building Market, you can find black truffle laid out for you on a platter-- literally.

A true, honest SF staple. It seems like Far West supplies everyone, from farmers markets to whole foods (and for good reason)! The owner is a sweet and lovely man, who you'll occasionally run in to at the local markets. Lately I've been a huge fan of their shiitakes as I no longer buy them from Asian markets. They seem to stay fresh for forever! And I feel good about eating and stewing them in my meals. Also lovely are the maitake (hen of the woods). Super yummy in stir fry dishes. Highly recommend! Be sure to get the $4-5 small baskets of shiitakes :) they're a great deal and taste just as good as the big guys. Perfect for Asian soups

Love the selection. The groupon for the dried chanterelles is a great deal. Haven't tried any of the mushroom farms to grow at home but I'd like to sometime. Bonus that it is located in the Ferry building which is fun to come explore every once and a while.

So many lovely fungi to choose from. I picked lions maine and two other unique kinds you do not get at your grocers. The store front is not very big but there is plenty of willing help to give advice or help you choose or suggest a recipe. They are awesome! And the prices are surprisingly reasonable!

I don't even like mushrooms and yet I love bringing people here. It's always a fascinating stop! Fungi fans are amazed by the extensive selection, product freshness, and the staff's knowledge and kind guidance. You'll have a tough time deciding what varieties to try, which is why the assortment baskets are fantastic.

So many mushrooms, so little time. I love this place...I don't think I have ever seen such a wonderful assortment of mushrooms anywhere. They have about 50 different mushroom varieties to choose from and a huge selection of other mushroom delights.
