Rome’s Best Food Neighborhood Is San Lorenzo—Here's Where to Go | Bon Appétit

"A maverick pizzeria that departs from Rome’s ultra-thin tradition with thick-rimmed pies; the marinara is a standout—tomato, oregano, and garlic scattered over a chewy, bubbled base that has been dough-leavened for up to 72 hours." - ByKatie Parla

Google
I wish I could give it 0- our last night in Rome and we looked for something local. It was the worst experience! We tried 2 different small pizza with Calzone and rose wine! Just horrible! HORRIBLE ! Calzone is not even Calzone! It is just a piece of bread folded in half. Tasted horrible! The place is so smelly and intolerable. We paid around €30.50 and we did not even finish. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Google
Excellent pizza. Good dough, good crusts that you don’t want to throw away, balanced toppings. I had a couple of the small. They are really small, it takes two for one starving person. Prices are slightly above average.

An absolute pleasure. The staff and customers are super friendly. Tables of students, couples, and older couples. Pizza is fantastic. I had a couple of the smalls. Doing it again, I probably would have gone for one of the large ones, or tried the thin crust. The pizzas were perfectly formed and cooked. The toppings fresh. They do mainly beers and also natural wines. A real pleasure. My server was a lovely young lady who was prompt and courteous whilst remaining friendly and engaging. Worth seeking out.

We decided to order 4 small pizzas with the idea of trying as many as possible. All were very tasty, but if you don't like spicy it's fine to skip Diavola. Very kindly staff and good service.

Google
A little out of the way but a fantastic meal with multiple different kinds of pizza . Owner and staff were great. Good beer and wine as well.. The owner went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. I wanted to buy something that was not really for sale... And the owner gave it to me as gift when I was leaving! Also it was interesting because it is just outside of one of the original Rome city walls which is worth seeing in itself.

Google
Beautiful pizzas. We ordered lots of small pizzas which means you can try/share more toppings than you would otherwise. And then order a couple more... Service excellent, atmosphere excellent. Lovely place, would definitely recommend.

Google
What a great idea: small pizzas so one can try several. Order more as you want more. Pizza tapas! We tried 6 different pizzas, all excellent, with some very nice beer. Friendly staff. Magnifica.

Google
A solid “Good” rating for this pizza, but not great. Summary of good points: 1. Pizza is clean, fresh and light (some pizzas I have eaten have very heavy cheese, this was just right) 2. Service is quick and with a smile 3. Wasn’t too busy when we arrived 4. Staff are friendly and there are enough of them around for you to promptly order additional items 5. Easy to navigate menu (which is also a negative point as below) Negative points: 1. Local area is very run down 2. Menu is very basic, literally 8 pizzas to choose from and very few toppings to choose from (there are no pasta dishes etc) 3. Decor is very basic, but clean 4. No cutlery provided, pizzas are served on paper 5. Soft drinks are unbranded (so no Coke or 7up) but still fine tasting 6. Not much else around the local area so you’ll literally just be coming to eat here and leave Final thoughts: I’m from the U.K. and would compare this pizza to Pizza Express - which I adore, it’s good quality, consistent and won’t leave you feeling heavy, but IT IS NOT A 4 or 5 star rated pizza place. However, I would definitely eat here again if I am in Rome. Do try it and you won’t be disappointed, but you just might not be overwhelmed.

Yelp
If you're in Rome, you have to go to this place. I thought I HATED anchovies, this place converted me. Turns out I was eating pizza in the wrong country. My friends and I ordered one of each pizza and got a carafe of white win to go with it. It's always a good thing when the food and the drinks are equally as good. This was some of the best pizza I have ever had and I won't eat anymore pizza anywhere else because of it. The staff if friendly and very too the point. Which as Americans we loved, because we don't like to sit around for too long. Even though they were hosting a dinner while we were there, they still took time to take good care of us.

Yelp
Hands down best pizza I had in Rome. We went there twice during our trip, once on the first day in Rome and once on our last in Italy. Our last day in Italy we lived outside of the city and took a train 1.5 hours ONE WAY just to eat this pizza. Yes, that's how good it is. This place is about as non-touristy as you can be. Located in San Lorenzo (10-15 min walk from Roma Termini), we found this place by accident simply because we were staying at an airbnb in San Lorenzo. Only the owner (tall, kinda grumpy looking guy) speaks a little English, but he does have an English menu. The two times we were there, we were the only non-Italian patrons. Right away you can tell they only care about one thing: the quality of their pizza. The pizza is served on large pieces of wax paper, no forks or plates. The pizza dough was perfectly chewy and rough, and the tomato sauce was perfect. The menu is incredibly simple: marinara, mediterranean, margherita, napoli, in carrozza, silvestre, pastorale and foccaccia in small, regular and large sizes. We tried nearly all the different kinds and hands down our favorites were napoli and margherita. The silvestre was also pretty high up there. Go eat their pizza.

Yelp
Very good pizza place that's simple and to the point. With communal seating and a brisk menu, you see the restaurant is merely a conduit for the great pies being made in the back. Really great deal for wine as well, 6 Euro for a half litre of natural, light wine is a deal. We ordered two medium pies, one margherita and one agreste. Although it felt like a long wait, both pies arrived piping hot. For the margherita the mozzarella was fresh and the sauce wasn't acidic at all making it very balanced. The agreste had ample toppings but wasn't runny and the browning of the Asiago made for good contrast from the cooked greens. Both pies had great crust but soft and light interiors, showing a superior quality to the dough they make for these pies. Definitely a worthwhile place to get a quick, affordable dinner.

Yelp
This place is hands down the BEST pizza I've ever had. And I eat a lot of pizza. From all over the world. And I was in Europe for 2 weeks at this time, eating a lot of pizza, and Farine la Pizza trumped them all! My husband and I ate here for dinner and I loved the pizza so much that I ordered another one to take back to our hotel with us! They are located in San Lorenzo, which is about 10-15 min outside of the touristy areas in Rome. Get there early or make a reservation because this place fills up quick! They offer indoor & outdoor seating. With a great selection of wines, foreign beers, and soft drinks. All of the staff spoke good English except for the owner. But we made small gestures to him in Italian ("hello" and "thank you") and he was very friendly and appreciative. He cares mainly about ONE thing, the quality of the pizza. I could tell since he spent a lot of his time looking at all of the pizzas before they were sent out to make sure they were perfect. They offer menu's in Italian and English. Their pizzas come in 3 sizes: small, regular, and large. Which is perfect if you want to sample multiple types of pizza, have your own, or share one. Their DOUGH is what sets them apart from others. They let their dough rise for at least 72 hours and you can taste the quality! The pizza dough was lightly crunchy on the outside, fluffy and soft on the inside. All pizzas are cut with giant scissors and served on wax paper. We loved the simplicity of the menu, how the pizza was served, and the ingredients. Each pizza was simple and straightforward. They used quality ingredients and don't try to overpower them with numerous toppings. My husband and I shared the Marinara pizza which consisted of marinara sauce, garlic, and oregano. No cheese. It was OUTSTANDING! Less is more! If you like spicy, ask them for some chili oil to drizzle over your pizza. It adds the perfect touch!

Yelp
Staff are courthouse and polite, the pizza however does not live up to the expectations. If you are trying to decide go with the margarita, it had a beautiful note of basil and is extremely safe. It is not that the pizza is bad, we just thought we could do better than San Francisco here and it didn't happen. The couple who run the place are extremely polite so was our server

Yelp
On vacation from California. Found this place site seeing. Turns out the owners are husband and wife who went to school for pizza making. I ordered the cheese basil with a request for olives on top. My boyfriend ordered anchovies and cheese. I'm not an anchovies kind of person but the anchovies and cheese was good. I would have liked the anchovies cut and sprinkled all over instead of as a whole - regardless, still ok. The basil and cheese was absolutely delightful! The flavors were balanced and just ugh delicious . The bread was the perfect thickness, not too thick not too thin. A must try if you are in town. Quality pizza indeed

Yelp
I LOVED this place. It was the last night of our honeymoon, and while I was disappointed that the hubby didn't have a more romantic place picked out for our last night in Italy, I was glad that we were able to stumble upon this little gem. I loved that they serve each pizza on a large piece of parchment paper. The pizza dough, the toppings, the wine... Perfect. All perfect.

Yelp
Truly an amazing experience. Although some of the other posts mentioned the surrounding area to be shady looking, I would disagree and say it's on the cusp of being hip. The pizza is amazing, is it the best I've had? Maybe not, but you have to try it. We kept it simple, and ordered a large pie with mozzarella and basil. They slice is up and serve it on paper. We sat next to 2 locals, and after the waitress dropped their pizza, we engaged in conversation. I'm not sure if it's Farine, or just Italians in general. But, everyone is super friendly! A must do, when in Rome!!

Yelp
Loved this place! I heard about it online, was staying in an airbnb nearby, decided to go. The pizza was delicious--this coming from an Italian New Yorker. Perfectly crispy, amazingly flavorful tomato sauce, fresh cheese. The regulations in Italy differ from those in the US, making dairy and meat products all the more rich. To a tourist like me, the experience was enjoyable and familiar, and the ambiance was pleasant and felt like a place modern Romans liked to hang out.

Yelp
a bit out of the way, but very well worth finding. We walked from our Termini area hotel, about 1.5km. Tucked into a side street, the place was quite busy on a Monday eve. reservations filled the tables, but we stood at the bar enjoying house wine. The menu is simple 6 or so pizzas in 3 sizes available. With exceptional flavor, our choices were wonderfully tastefull. My wife had the potato topped pie which was a very good surprise. I had Margherita which was as good as any ever tried. no other menu items just wines and beers. very inexpensive and a do not miss pizza when in Rome.

Yelp
i have no idea why people think their pizza is good here. I read about this place on a blog and also reviews on google, and went there thinking I was gonna taste some bomb authentic roman pizza but it was a real let down. I had the magherita which is the most popular and it was basically just thick baked bread, tomato sauce, mozzarella and 2 basil leaves on top- absolutely nothing special or different from anything you taste in the states or even the frozen kind. I've tasted better pizzas in NY. I probably wouldn't recommend for people that are trying to get some mind blowing pizza in Rome. The service was also terrible. I had to spell it out 3 times that I wanted something to go. I wish I had spent my time and money somewhere else.

Yelp
So yummy. I was attracted by the way the place looked but the pizza was also delish. I got a piccola and it was enough for me, but I wasn't super hungry anyway so you probably want a regular. My airbnb host said he likes to get multiple pies. Ordered the spinach, cheese, pepper pizza and it was seriously tasty- great crust texture, spinach tasted good, cheese was subtle but salty and melded the flavors well. It came out HOT and on a piece of waxed paper, which I find truly endearing. I got to sit outside and the owner was patient with me because I couldn't decide and was also using my best poor Italian to speak with him. Check it out! Some nice people watching and seemed like a good beer/wine menu too.
