Meet 10 Of LA’s Best Asian-Owned Cafes

"CAFE IF started off as a blog run by Chinese Canadian owner Ai Zhang. After moving to the US, she yearned for somewhere to connect with like-minded people from different backgrounds, so she decided to create a virtual space for friends to embrace unfamiliar possibilities and share their own personal journeys. When she relocated to LA from New York in 2015, she needed to get to know another new place and carve out a social space. So in May of 2016, CAFE IF was reborn as a physical cafe in WeHo. Zhang said the neighborhood has been very supportive of the business, and she often discusses her personal thoughts about cultural differences and language barriers with her customers. In the past year, they’ve had to shorten hours and go from an afternoon gathering spot to a morning takeaway business, but she’s still found ways to foster connection, mostly through Instagram rather than at the cafe. Regardless of the pandemic, she said her business needs to catch up to thrive in an online-focused world, but she still values human interactions and hopes to stay true to her initial mission in whatever form it takes. Order this: The charcoal latte, or go classic and get a flat white." - with warm welcome, leslie yeh

Where to Find Barista Competition-Worthy Signature Coffee Drinks Around Los Angeles - Eater LA

"Emerson Haro and Tony Yuan started by roaming LA streets in a yellow 1964 Citroën HY truck. This year, they put down roots, opening a cafe at the base of Century City’s Constellation Place office tower and parking their truck, which they call Sunny, in a West Hollywood storefront. They offer several worldly lattes inspired by travels. Champurrado inspired The Nomad, a bittersweet blend of espresso, Holy Cacao chocolate sauce, piloncillo, cinnamon, clove, orange, and whole milk. A yellow neon sign in Century City encourages visitors to “feel your sunshine.” Drinks like these certainly help." - Joshua Lurie

Google
Cutest coffee shop! This little coffee truck is parked right inside a garage-like building on Santa Monica. Great coffee- I got the cold brew with a vanilla oat milk cold foam. Happy bright and cheery design inside! Very kind and helpful staff.

Google
Awesome coffee shop with one of the coolest features - truck inside the shop! The coffee is amazing and the team is super friendly. A must visit while in West Hollywood or in LA!

Google
Nice little coffee shop. Love the vibe. Just a few seats to sit, but seems like a locals' favorite for a quick coffee.

Google
Really good drip coffee for a decent price considering this is in West Hollywood. If you like lattes, their seasonal latte sound absolutely delicious. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is very quaint!

Ever been to a coffee shop that's a truck in a shop? I couldn't say I had before until I visited Farm Cup Coffee. It has the cutest little bright yellow coffee van which you can spot from a fair bit away! A great photo opportunity too. When we arrived, we were asked if it was our first time here and when we said yes, we were nicely explained the menu (i.e. their default milk is Chobani's oat milk but there are other upgrades such as pistachio milk, etc) then recommended the Poet as being a popular choice as well as the Snickerdoodle latte from the holiday menu. Their base being Chobani's oat milk is actually the main reason we decided to visit as we know we love it and it's no longer sold in Canada. Those were the two beverages we opted for after some debates, one iced and one hot. Both were delicious! The Poet is described to be a honey lavender latte made with double shot of their single origin espresso, 1883 lavender syrup, a touch of honey, steamed milk. It was subtle yet aromatic, while not being too fragrant and/or floral. The Snickerdoodle latte is great for any cinnamon lovers. Both were tasty and high quality. We also couldn't resist trying their bakery items which were selling out fast! We ordered the citrus olive oil cake and WOW, one of the best things I've ever had and that is no exaggeration. Flavor was evident but not too potent and the cake itself was so moist. It's something that I still think about now that my trip to Santa Monica has ended. I highly recommend a visit here and have told others about it! Also bookmarked it for future visits if I ever make a trip there again. Just note, there is not really any seating at this spot besides the two little tables outside so it is more of a grab n' go type coffee shop. For parking, we went for the free street parking at the nearby residential area. Just be careful as parking is free at certain times and days of the week - read carefully as each street is different!

Google
Farm Cup is a bright yellow coffee van parked inside a garage looking shop. The first time I had a flat white and it was decent. The friendly barista Michael left me a pretty good impression. The second time I I had a signature drink called The Artist, a cinnamon latte that turned out a bit underwhelming. Honestly, the whole experience is a bit strange. You are inside a shop, but the baristas still serve you from the van a feet or two above you, separated by a metal wall with service windows. The only seating area is outside on the sidewalk.

Google
High eye appeal from the street, this coffee shop lives up to the expectations. I ordered a mocha with pistachio milk and it was FANTASTIC. I wasn’t even aware pistachio milk was even a “thing”, but it was a revelation. Overall, terrific selection of drinks, pastries and gifts to purchase. Highly recommend.

Google
Walked in and tried their Vanilla cold brew. Nice to have places like this always popping up. You will especially enjoy this place if you’re a transplant and want to be seen. If you’re a local it’s a fine place for a quick stop, step above mass produced coffee like Starbucks. Cool coffee shop made from a Euro van of some sort. Vanilla Coke brew was tasty, fresh and unique. I would recommend.

Yelp
Perfect serotonin boost in adorable coffee truck form! I had such a tough time choosing what to order because there were simply too many good options. And all dairy free milks?! I ended up with the honeybun latte off of the spring menu. It was absolute happiness in a cup, although a touch too sweet for me. I forgot to ask for it less sweet, so next time I'll just ask for a little less sugar. My fiancé ordered the London fog cold brew which was so uniquely wonderful. I'll have to come back for their sandwiches, pastries, and matcha!

Yelp
I LOVE Farm Cup. A few months ago my my friend brought me a Blueberry Matcha from farm cup and I have been obsessed ever since! To be fair I have only had the Bluberry Matcha, but I have had it 5+ times and it is one of my favorite things ever, it genuinely makes me happy because it so delicious.

Yelp
Deeeeelicious honey lavender oat milk latte cute little vibe inside. Love the decor. Baristas were nice but not very interactive, which is totally fine.

Smile V.

Yelp
Hate to leave a bad review, but there is no way they used fresh coffee grinds for my cortado. Tasted super burnt, like they did a second, or even 3rd pull from the same puck. The fact that there was no steamed milk, let alone latte art, was a slight disappointment, but this was the first time I ever had to spit out a drink from a coffee shop immediately. Threw it out. Couldn't drink it. Guessing this is a one off, but this is pretty bad. Still have the burnt coffee taste in my mouth. Hope you have a better experience than I did!

Yelp
They've got a car in that building for a coffee shop!!! I love ambiance like this with a couple of other places that have taken up this trend and it never gets old! But the best part is their vast array of high quality choices and vegan friendly options. Oh it gets better! All the milks are DAIRY-FREE!!! Vegans descend from the heavens this is my jam!!! Just when you think wow this place is good It gets BETTER !? Single Origin COFFEE! Calm this coffee snob down! AND It gets EVEN BETTER !?! The Fall Menu with REAL Kabocha Pumpkin!!!! This was my first time here and it legit took me 20 minutes to choose... talk about an existential foodie crisis! I went with the Kabocha Spice Matcha and it delivered! On the sweet with a hint of spice and the sophistication of real kabocha pumpkin! I'm glad I'm in the valley because I would go broke for this place! The service was great and patient with all of my questions and indecisiveness!

Yelp
My fave local coffee shop! The staff here's always so happy. The honey lavender matcha latte tasted like cereal milk - so yum. I also love their seasonal citrus flavors currently on the menu. I highly recommend giving this place a try

Yelp
So sad the other location closed down in DTLA because this cafe/restaurant was amazing! Lavender matcha is so good and so was the food but it's not applicable to this location as far as I know. Bring back the food!

Claire C.

Yelp
I love this place! I live around the corner, and every time I stop in, it's quick and easy. Everyone who works here is always so nice and friendly as well! Good drinks as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Best espresso I could find in LA! I am usually a pour-over or cold brew drinker. Not espresso-based drinks. No latte, cappuccino, mocha, americano etc. Years ago when I first tried Farm Cup Coffee, I thought they were all about sweet creative espresso-based drinks. Orange syrup, lavender extract, strawberry matcha etc. My friend who is also a black coffee drinker told me this coffee shop serves the best espresso, I had to give a chance. And oh boy he was right! Any black coffee drinker - highly recommend Farm Cup Coffee to get a shot of espresso or iced americano! Such a clean yet bold flavor with friendly customer services. It is a big plus that they have a cute "Sunny" truck inside of the shop and offer creative sweet drinks so there are drinks for friends who are more into aesthetic sweet drinks too.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things. I stumbled upon this place by accident and what a catch! Their drink "the artist" is one of my all time fav drinks in all of LA. I was thrilled when I saw it includes piloncillo and cloves, so essentially a version of the Mexican cafe de olla (which I'm obsessed with). I hope this drink is a permanent menu item. Plus, the staff is always friendly. Win win!
google avatar

Yelp
Chill place on melrose to sit and enjoy great coffee and food. The baristas' recommendations all hit. Loved the caffeine-free golden milk drink and the peanut butter miso cookie is phenomenal.
google avatar

Yelp
WOW! Stumbled upon this cute lil gem while on my morning dog walk and not only is the aesthetic lovely, but the treats (the earl grey Bundt) and coffee (blueberry matcha and vanilla latte) are absolutely fantastic!! And the staff are wholesome and sweet as well. Definitely stop by if you're in the area!
google avatar

Logan M.

Yelp
Love this little spot. Vibrant and cozy feel inside with a greetings from all the staff. Nice place to grab a coffee on the go or sit out side and enjoy the day. Will try their food soon!
google avatar

Jmatic M.

Yelp
This place is really cool really unique coffee shop. It's pretty cool lay out . The vibes feel very summer vibes. And the coffee is really good
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
Honestly some of my favorite coffee! I love the cute little walk up and everyone that works there is so sweet. My go to is a whole milk latte with honey. I love that they have quality ingredients and you can really taste the difference. Some of the best quality coffee in the area. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Sasha F.

Yelp
A cute oasis of gourmet coffee and unique design on otherwise dreary par of Santa Monica Blvd. The employees are nice and my matcha latte was tasty. Sadly, they don't have a bathroom but the fact that you can bring your dog inside is a huge bonus!
google avatar

Kaylin C.

Yelp
what a hidden gem coffee shop in weho! you can tell all of their drinks of made with so much care (the handwritten cups was such a cute touch) and they use quality espresso + hand whisk their matcha. they also don't charge extra for non-dairy milk
google avatar

Violet B.

Yelp
My fav local coffee stop. Lattes and matcha are excellent- service always friendly, and the bright yellow converted French milk truck is legit! There is usually some sort of seating on the sidewalk plus they have just added small bistro style tables indoors at the back of the truck as well. I would say that this isn't designed as a hangout spot but more of a pick up and go. I enjoy their inventive seasonal lattes and drinks. The pumpkin purée with ceremonial grade matcha on ice is super good!

Spicy E.

Yelp
Very small coffee shop I didn't like their coffee. The taste wasn't worth the price I would not recommend. Service was friendly and they were playing taylor swift so that adds points. Overall I wouldn't come here again
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
Cute little shop on Santa Monica Blvd. ordered the daydreamer - tumeric, ginger ... the good stuff. Delicious to the taste, made with care. Also the herb tomo danish warmed. Pricey? YES. Also a treat for today. Friendly baristas:) pleasant first-time experience. Cheers!
google avatar

Yelp
Cozy place with a few tables, food truck vibe indoors. Good coffee and assortment of pastries and cookies. Pleasant staff and courteous service. Recommend if in the area.
google avatar

Evgenii K.

Yelp
It's more like a coffee to go. - Seating is scarce. - Took a latte 4 out of 5 (but that's just me personally). - For two cups of coffee $14, seemed a little pricey. - They work until 3 pm. - The girl at the checkout counter is nice :) - Nice colors and style inside I wish you nothing but success!
google avatar

Kat H.

Yelp
Their drinks are definitely on the sweeter side, but delicious. Their strawberry vanilla cold brew on the summer menu and pumpkin pie cold brew on the fall menu are must try's! Staff is super friendly & helpful.
google avatar

Sarah D.

Yelp
Farm Cup can be compared to drinking heaven ! Their Chagacinno has to be the best I've ever tried ! It is absolutely DELICIOUS !! Always such great service and so quick !! The coffee truck is so aesthetically pleasing and cute !! It's a fun yellow, like a pocket full of sunshine ! My coach put me on and I'm addicted ! Their pop tarts are not only delicious, but they're vegan as well!!
google avatar

Kislev A.

Yelp
There was no line order and pay for our drink. I think we created the line because we were reading the menu which is up by the cashier. The wait to get our drinks was minimal, especially considering we ordered 4 drinks and there were some people who ordered ahead of us and after us. There is no indoor seating but there are several chairs and small tables set up on the sidewalk in front of the address. The address is an open space where they managed to park a super cute bright sunshine yellow Citroen van where they have their drink prep area to make their drinks and where the cashiers take customer orders from. FARM CUP will make you forget you liked dairy in your coffee. They roast their own beans too, btw. ARTIST, a signature drink, is a slightly sweetened latte and was soooo good I would totally order it again. LATTE is also very good. CHAI was great. Parking on the streets surrounding the shop.
google avatar

Kristine M.

Yelp
What a cool new spot for coffee and pastries! The big yellow bus centered in the middle of the coffee shop gives the space a feeling of being outdoors on a warm spring day even in the middle of winter. The default creamer is a happy oat milk medium to the hedonistic dairy milk and the health conscious almond milk. Barista asks the right questions, informs customers of items that are generally misunderstood (example: toma is a cheese not a tomato), and makes each serving consistent and precise. This space has great potential for much more growth.
google avatar

Yula K.

Yelp
This coffee shop is a TRUCK ... inside of a STORE ... on Santa Monica BLVD ! How did it get in there? Does it ever travel? Why do so many men with neck beards come here? I do not know these answers but sometimes I will stop by and get a nice little lavender iced drink. Sometimes it is a little bitter but sometimes it is a little sweet. Kind of like me.
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
tl;dr This is my favorite spot to get a pick-me-up in West Hollywood! Drinks (5/5): The honey lavender matcha is incredible both hot and iced. My friend loves the golden hour. The drinks are consistently made well. Service (4/5): It's a small spot with 1-2 people working the station, so if there's a line, be prepared to wait 10+ minutes at times. Ambiance (4.5/5): It's a small spot and they really made do with the space. There's limited outdoor seating, but it'd be cuter if they put a couple more spots inside. Parking: Street parking only.
google avatar

Vernon Van R.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop. Went here to pick up a quick picker upper. Their coffee is great and quick too. Oat Vanilla is my go to Plenty of street parking. However, it's metered. So bring coins to pay for parking. No need to pay a lot since service is really quick. Unless you want to chill and hang out while you sip on their coffee.
google avatar

Angelica S.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and I consistently let down by the coffee here. Also, they close at 3pm yet refuse to make drip coffee anytime after 12pm... When asked why they have no answer other than "convenience." It's an absolute joke to not serve drip coffee after noon at a COFFEE shop.

Peter N.

Yelp
Best coffee in LA. Period. I guess Yelp won't let me leave it at that. 85 characters or less. Best coffee in LA. Period.
google avatar

Abby C.

Yelp
Super adorable coffee shop! Made to look like a food truck but in a permanent location. The staff is very friendly and all of the drinks I've tried are delicious. The prices are comparable to any other coffee shop. The lavender drink, The Poet, is INCREDIBLE. All drinks can be made iced and there are a variety of milk alternatives to choose from.
google avatar

Shannon N.

Yelp
I was doing laundry across the street and realized this other location of Farm Cup was a quick walk over. Having the yellow truck hiding within the building made it easy to find. Usually visiting the Century City location on the ground floor of an office building, this was my first time here at their West Hollywood location. They were out of both pastries I requested but it was later in the day so I understand they probably sold out prior to noon. This was also the first time I tried their iced version of the vanilla latte, and it was really good. My problem is I drink it too quickly instead of savoring it, but that's on me. This was a pricey drink but I enjoyed it. Farm Cup is more of a payday treat but today I cheated and I'm not ashamed. Parking is metered street on busy Santa Monica Blvd.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty quick! Amazing smelling candles! Lots of options for coffee and so cute! Women of the global majority were working! Felt like a piece of the country in the city.

Sergio Z.

Yelp
Just tried their seasonal honeybun latte--so good! The staff was super kind, and the place was really clean. Highly recommend! Definitely coming back soon!

Marko M.

Yelp
what to say, love this place! amazing team of workers, love them all! and the coffee is just devine!

Yelp
It's yellow and fun . Staff is pleasant and knowledgeable . Got the vanilla rose matcha .. would def come again

Joi H.

Yelp
During my visit my friend Penny recommended I try Farm Cup Coffee, the setup is so adorable I even purchased a little bus pin, I immediately pinned it to my bag and The Poet is my fave, Chani and Skylar are amazing. I try to visit Farm Cup whenever I'm in the area. I'm hoping to try some seasonal flavors. Thanks girlies!
google avatar

Mariah D.

Yelp
First time visiting and I love this place. I was sent here on a recommendation for the quality of their matcha. I got an iced matcha latte with oat milk (bonus: oat milk is their standard milk) with a little bit of vanilla. I love that you can actually taste the matcha which for me is so important. I also got the last spinach and artichoke danish, BOMB! There's a couple tables outside on the sidewalk so I got to enjoy my breakfast outside on a beautiful day. It was such a pleasant visit. Can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Zulfiia K.

Yelp
It's unusual that the coffee van is located right in the building. The latte was delicious. the staff is polite and friendly. Little place to sit.
google avatar

Danielle H.

Yelp
Signature Drink are Delicious! I pass Farm Cup on my walk every morning. I decided to stop by and give it a try. They are a cute mom and pop shop. Very esthetically pleasing. I ordered a hot Vanilla Latte and it was delicious. I have been back a few more times and tries a couple of things. The Mocha latte was also good but my favorite and go to drink is the Vanilla Latte. They do also have a good croissant with ham and cheese. I will say they are a bit on the pricy side. A drink is around 7-10 dollars. They do have a points system but I have yet to earn anything from it. I did take one star away because they are pretty slow. My drink usually take around 6-10 minutes. 4/5 Stars.
google avatar

Emma G.

Yelp
Such a cute place! I got a lavender iced chai and a strawberry croissant and both were delicious. Not a ton of seating but a cute little place to stop for drinks to go; I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Hellen T.

Yelp
Stopped by Farm Cup Coffee before heading to Pride in Weho and got to try their strawberry matcha latte from the summer menu. The ambiance and decor were super cute, and service was very friendly. The matcha itself was just alright (~$10 including 15% tip), but my friends liked the Explorer latte!
google avatar

Joseph H.

Yelp
My new fave spot for a cold brew. The baristas were super friendly (Skyler assisted me I believe ??). Great ambiance as well .
google avatar

Ari R.

Yelp
What an awesome spot. Gay-run coffee in a picture perfect space. I had an iced Romantic, a rose latte. It was great. Not as great as Dripp's but good! The truck is cute but I think ordering from down below creates a kind of barrier.. not a lot of warmth or coffee-talk going on here... but that's ok, I suppose. I'll go occasionally when I'm in the area and support them and the farmers!

Debbie B.

Yelp
Just love this place. Delicious coffee drinks. Friendly peeps here. So unique and fun.
google avatar

Cesar Uriel F.

Yelp
Love this place! Great coffee and other drinks. Staff is always super kind and professional! I never have an issue. Never had my order wrong. Try the cortado! It's super yummy and goes really good with the Strawberry Croissant!!!! can't wait to go again!
google avatar

Breeonna F.

Yelp
Came here with a friend for the first time today and boy am I glad I did! This place is super cute and super inviting. It doesn't have too much seating in or outside but it's definitely worth picking up! I ordered an iced cappuccino with oat milk and it was literally some of the best coffee I've had! Delicious flavor, perfectly strong, and just overall 10/10. They have so many different options of drinks you can choose from making it a great spot for all! And one of the best parts is that oat milk is included in all the drinks for free! I definitely recommend trying this place out if you love coffee or any kind of delicious drink! They have matcha, horchata, chai, and the list goes on! I will be coming back here frequently!
