The Best Food Carts in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"This Northwest Portland food cart shows off some of the region’s finest seasonal produce: On any given visit, depending on the time of year, Oregon strawberries may appear, red to the center, in a salad with cucumbers and spring lettuces; spring peas and grapefruit may come tossed with a cashew crunch; winter citrus could provide a pop of acid to briny olives and feta. Then again, those seeking a serious smash burger will find those here, too, year-round." - Ben Coleman

The Best Burgers in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Along a quaint street in Northwest Portland sits the food cart Farmer and the Beast, within the Nob Hill Food Cart pod. Although the cart serves a variety of local vegetable dishes, Farmer and the Beast is perhaps most known for its eponymous Beast burger. Featuring two smashed patties, American cheese, shaved yellow onion, pickle, iceberg, and its special sauce, this burger holds its own among the smash burgers in town, with a flavor reminiscent of a backyard cookout in all of the best ways. Farmer and the Beast also has a second cart at the Breakside Beer Garden in Beaverton’s Old Town." - Rebecca Roland

The Best Restaurants in Northwest Portland’s Slabtown | Eater Portland

"Chef Jeff Larson runs this food cart, located within the Nob Hill Food Carts pod, nailing both colorful salads and hardcore smash burgers. Farmer and the Beast concentrates on Portland produce from farms like Sauvie Island Growers and Our Table farms, tossed in punchy vinaigrettes with Oregon-grown grains and seasonal meat and fish. The double smash burger has made some of Portland’s best lists; however, the salads, such as the current strawberry-fennel salad, should not be skipped. Farmer and the Beast offers outdoor seating in the food cart pod, as well as takeout." - Alex Frane

Strawberry salad ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ - slightly too much dressing - slightly soggy strawberries, might be on purpose, maybe canned? Or over ripe on purpose? - good flavor Beast burger ⭐⭐✨ - like boiled tasting- sort of soggy - first couple bites were good bc of the crisp - second half was really not enjoyable had to pick out the pickles, didn't even finish - was relying on the butter and sauce, the meat isn't great Fries ⭐⭐⭐ - love how crispy they are - way too salted Strawberry lemonade ⭐ - not drinkable - literal diabetes

Ordering from the tablet was a bit annoying. Hard to see the screen a little challenging making sure our order was right ( it wasn’t). Service was fast enough and friendly fixing our order (fried didn’t get added because we didn’t choose a condiment we didn’t want). An easier to read tablet or shield would have been a great improvement. We were the only customers. We received our food is ready text about 5 minutes before it was actually ready. Wait time was fine. Burger was good. Not life changing. Patty was flopping around over the bun which gave out halfway through my little beast. A bit dry. Fries were cooked really well but mostly stubby little fries. I would much more prefer fries longer than an inch or inch and a half. A bit too salty for my taste as well. Overall, burger and fries were good though a bit overpriced for the quality. I’m probably will not be back.

Have wanted to try them for a long time. Went to the 23rd location a few times only to turn away because of the long line. (And crazy people hanging around.) Finally got here tonight. I'll just say I won't be going to most of the other burger places any more. The Beast Burger is a double smash urgee with cheese. I orders grilled onions on it and had them hold the pickles. Omg- just phenomenal. As close to a perfect smash burger as you can get. Crispy edges- but still juicy, American cheese and an amazing house made sauce. You can order a triple or a quad too. The fries were great too. Salty and fresh. Perfect with their house sauce too. Kind of a fry sauce or remoulade- but so good. Can't wait for my next visit. So good!

Google
I believe this is their second location, and it's in the Westside. The food cart is in the same area as the new Beeakside Brewery location. We ordered the triple smash burger, chicken skewers, and seared ahi salad. The food was great and satisfied our hunger. It's a great addition to the area.

Google
Best burger in Beaverton! I'm serious. This smash burger is cooked perfectly with quality toppings. The fries are great, too! This is my favorite on the west side - better than any restaurant, cart, or fast food place.

Google
The perfect meal! We walked up to the cart and placed an order - the tablet is super easy to use and lets you customize with alllll the options. I added braised bacon steak and pickled jalapenos. My husband ordered his with no lettuce, extra cheese and onion. We added a side of fries with special sauce, a Strawberry Fields salad and two Strawberry Farmer-Ades. The picture doesn't do it justice- the smash burgers were perfectly done- crispy lacy edges, melty cheese. Doesn't get much better. The braised bacon steak was so tender and added a smoky punch to the burger. Fries are a great addition- crispy outside, soft inside and just the right amount of salt. You can tell they're hand cut and fresh! The Strawberry Fields salad was loaded with beautiful big strawberries and the flavors of the basil, fennel and almond crunch were layered so nicely with the perfect amount of texture. Farmer-ades were so refreshing and a great balance of sweet and tart. I can't think of anything more perfect than our afternoon here enjoying this meal in the sunshine! We will definitely will be back!

Google
There is a special right now, the Pobalno Popper Beast. Run, do not walk, this is the best summer time burger, I was stunned. It's got the usual classic foundation of the 2 patties and yet on a light, thinner brioche, not a fat chonker. All flavor. Then it is smeared with a roasted potato spread, chili mayo and the crispy fried jalapeños and onions. Prefect balance. I just finished it and want another.

Google
I always loved the 23rd location, but after my first trip to this one last week — it really left something to be desired. First of all, I loathe this tablet ordering BS. It’s so impersonal and time consuming, and then they want you to tip 22% lol. No thanks, not if you’re not even acknowledging me! Then they forgot my sauce on the side, I went back and some blank faced employee barely said a word as he went back and handed me the sauce. Again, no acknowledgement, apology for the inconvenience, nada. I think this tablet ordering system is creating a deeper disconnect from customer to employee and it really dampens the vibe. The burger here is good, but not good enough to warrant the cost, nor the annoying ordering system.

Yelp
Since the first visit, when craving a burger this is my ideal place to go! The smash burger here is delicious and always tastes fresh. Fries are great with their truffle sauce! I LOVE the truffle sauce so give that a try if you ever get the chance. Burger was $13 and fries are $5, not too bad price wise for a great meal. You just order on the screen when you're ready, and receive a text when the order is ready. Sauces are an additional 50¢.

Yelp
My favorite spot in town for burgers. I constantly crave Farmer and the Beast because their vegan smash patties are smothered with delicious sauce, mushrooms, and onions. The vegan truffle mayo is delicious as well as their fries. I've gotten their lemonade before too and thought that everything was high quality.

Yelp
If you like really salty food, this is the place for you. Tossed the burger because it was too salty. I even asked for light salt on the fries and it was still salty. If you do eat here ask for no salt on everything. Not happy about spending $17 for food I had to toss.

Yelp
What do you get when delicious beer meets artificial turf meets picnic tables? Apparently tasty and delicious food trucks with friendly staff! Farmer and the Beast keeps their menu simple and savory. The deets: First, be prepared for a unique ordering system. In front of the window you will find place an iPad. Follow the prompts to place your order. There is a chance for special requests and clear markings for sides or sauces that will cost you extra. Note: There was a person who checked in with us as we ordered to see if we had any questions. Second, be prepared for a it to take a few minutes as it appears things are freshly prepared. This was evidenced by the blazing hot chicken (temperature, not spice) and the cool sauces/pickles. Third, enjoy the sun (hopefully), the artificial grass, the picnic tables. Lots of space for and a generous option between shade and sunshine. The food was, overall, very tasty. Our only hesitation would be the salt. The chicken batter appeared a little too salty and the fries, extra salty. What we couldn't discern was if the salt from the fries was permeating the sandwich or if there were two separate salts.

Yelp
Great food at this cart in the Breakside brewery patio. Every element of the burger was quality, the fries were crispy, and the herby ranch was addictive. There was a good crowd at the brewery on a sunny Saturday afternoon, but the order was ready in just 13 minutes. I also liked their ordering system. You punch your order in at the kiosk with your phone number, and they text you when it's ready.

Yelp
The "Farm Bird" sandwich is... great. Simple description but appropriate for this high quality, straightforward approach to a classic. More pickles than the norm, which I appreciate, but, obviously, the chicken is the star. And it is, indeed, a star. I stood at the cart before the cell notification that my order was ready. I watched as a dedicated food-carter extracted two pieces of chicken from the frier (someone else copied my order!) and used a digital food thermometer to measure the internal temperature of each piece. That's dedication to the cause of tasty and safely cooked food. Recommend!

Yelp
Trusty old Farmer out working your fields Hanging out over your green food truck wheels Breakside Cuddle Puddle all year September sun so surreal There's Murray McLauchlan on the car radio Passing truck drivers in the fast lane Well this is my way to say thanks for the meal And I hope there's no shortage of rain Grilled Albacore Loin Panzanella and Skewer Thanks for the meal here's a song that is real The Beast from the city to you

Yelp
Best burger in town, legit could eat this thing every day and not tire of it. Can't beat a sunny day, sitting outside with a beer and a burger.

Yelp
This is a great little food pod - Farmer and the Beast was great - and break-side brewery exceeded our expectations with their Imperial stout! But back to the food - my wife had the tuna sandwich, and I got the spicy chicken. Both we're good - but the tuna was outstanding. We also shared the hand cut fries, and they did not disappoint. Will definitely come back again.

Yelp
Can't believe it when we saw farmer and the beast west of Portland and so close to home. Our go-to place for smash burger.

Priscilla R.

Yelp
Food was ok. We ordered the impossible burger, triple decker burger, fried chicken sandwich and 2 fries. Service - I gave specific instructions no mushrooms and mayo on side. extra crispy fries. Unfortunately, as fate has it... I ordered to-go and didn't check the order. I trusted the 3 staff to do their job accordingly. My impossible burger had mushrooms and dressing and the fries were soggy. I expected better for a crew as it was a rainy day and we were the only patrons ordering. Aside from my order being incorrect, the burgers were blah. Just one single slice of lettuce as if they were going to be poor for not making the burger crunchy and fresh. ambiance is an outside food truck. It is what it is.

Taylor C.

Yelp
Hands down the best burgers we've had since moving to Oregon! Also in a great location next to Breakside Brewery with plenty of beer options to pair with.

Robert O.

Yelp
Great burger and fries. If you like waiting over 45 minutes for a burger, I would not recommend.
