Operating since 1941 and owned by farming families, this permanent indoor market opens early every Saturday year-round, a rarity in the city. Frequently cited by regional food organizations as a cornerstone of Pittsburgh’s local food system.

Great produce, delicious baked pastries, Asian goodies, Indian food and sundries, shrooms and shoots, and a wonderful selection of really fresh meat. The venders are really warm, down to earth, nice folk. Add this market to your Saturday shopping. Come early.

The produce that I purchased here today was excellent. It included grape tomatoes with a complex, sweet taste, corn that was sweet and delicate and tasty peas. The vendors were friendly and more than willing to answer questions about the produce and make recommendations. In general, the prices aren’t posted so for some items I asked the price and then decided whether to purchase.

The indoor Farmers Market Cooperative of East Liberty is open every Saturday morning all year. The farmers are friendly and are happy to share info. Availability varies with seasons and vendor schedules but generally include a variety of dried beans, pickled items, ethnic cuisine, and noodles in addition to produce, dairy and meat vendors. Go early for best selection (if you arrive after 11.30 am, things may be sold out and vendors are getting ready to pack up). There is a free parking lot next to the building, plus street parking (and located very near to Home Depot).

First time visiting. The place had a few different vendors with plenty of fresh produce at decent prices. (There was a band playing...cool:) and although I only bought veggies, there was baked goods and meat available. I will definitely go again.

This year-round farmer's market provides produce, fresh bread, farm canned goods like pickles and preserves, eggs, meat, an extensive cheese case, hummus, Indian food, world market finds and wooden gifts, plus a coffee and juice bar. Best place to stock up for the week!

A great little farmer's market just behind the Home Depot I'm East Liberty. Ethnic foods, fresh eggs, organic veggies and meats. Stop in here between 5:00 am to noon on Saturdays and you will be pleasantly surprised!

The outside building look sketchy, but there are tons of nice booths inside with good produce, meats, drinks, and goods. I believe that the earlier you go the better, but there is usually still lots of stuff around 10.

Yelp
If you want to buy fresh meat and feel like family, definitely come here. They're reasonably priced, always nice, and the products speak for themselves - delicious! We've gotten turkey sausage, fresh thick bacon, and sage ground pork. You can call them the week before for preorders, as well as join their text service. You have to pick up your preorder between 5-10:30 AM, but then you can also buy some things there (if it's not sold out!) the texting method has worked out really well for us. They accept both cash and cards. The Saturday Farmers Market overall is great, but I've enjoyed my experience with JL Kennedy! Parking is super easy in the lot next to the market. While you're there, checkout all of the other amazing vendors at the Market!

Yelp
We have been buying our meat from Kennedy's for many years now. The quality is truly first rate, much higher than places like the Market District etc.. We have had no bad experiences with them in thirty years!! Highly recommended!

Yelp
I paid for a "fresh, local, free-range" turkey, but I think I got a Butterball. For 2 years in a row I ordered a 20-25 lb. turkey from JL Kennedy Meat Stand and both years the turkeys I got were frozen solid. When I inquired about it after the first year, the woman told me that they keep their refrigerators really cold so if I pick up the turkey later in the day it would probably be frozen. I had picked it up fairly early, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. This year I picked up the turkey at 6:30 AM. I felt the turkey at the stand and it felt soft, so I figured this time I got a fresh turkey. When I got it home and began prepping it, the inside was still frozen solid. I called the farm and the man I spoke with told me that he keeps his truck cold and it may have frozen in there. I told him that it's not possible for it to freeze on the inside and remain thawed on the outside. It just doesn't work that way! He told me that I can return it, but that wasn't an option because I had to put it in brine and go to work. Also, the market is 1/2 hour each way from my house. Also, both years the turkeys had the giblets inside white paper bags that were mechanically sealed (just like Butterball) and both had pop-up plastic indicators, just like Butterball. Butterball sells fine turkeys, and if I wanted a Butterball I could have gotten one for 1/3 the price at any supermarket. I'm on the look-out for a farm that sells REAL fresh, local, free-range turkeys for next year.
