Montreal’s Best Greek Restaurants - Eater Montreal

"First opened in 1986, Faros chef and owner Benny Kazerooni continues to lead this old-school taverna’s kitchen known for its seasonal seafood and fresh fish by the pound in Mile End. It’s a good spot to dine on more uncommon specialties like skordalia (garlic and potato dip) and youvetsi (a meaty orzo stew) in addition to a robust dessert menu of loukoumades and baklava." - JP Karwacki

The best seafood restaurant! Unbelievable how good everything is! Staring with the Greek salad... Amazing flavor of the tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and delicious Feta cheese 😋 The fish of the day is fresh fish. We enjoyed the fresh Red Snapper and I choose the Chilean sea bass, it was amazing!!!. We also ordered the octopus dish, it was so tender and delicious!! For appetizers we enjoyed the spinach in filo pastry , fried zucchini and eggplant and the tzatziki !!! Very good!! Fresh bread with olive oil and vinegar mmmmmmm good! so good!!! We would highly recommend this restaurant. When you are in Montreal, take the time and have dinner here. You will not be disappointed. The chef truly understands Greek cuisine and all the flavors !! I lived in Greece for almost 3 years and Faros Restaurant Hits it out of the park. Hands down !If you love fresh seafood this is the place you want ! The service is very friendly and accommodating. There are enough tables but making a reservation on a busy weekend is highly recommended. Enjoy!

It is a nice, quiet place, and the food is phenomenal. It actually felt like being in Greece

I had not been here in 20 years. Although they no longer have fish soup what ever we ordered it was better than expected but it was pricey. The salad was excellent and the fish...wow. it was not salty like most places. The rice had this amazing aroma. Service could have been a little more sharp and their locomadies were horrible but we were nor charged so I kept the 5 stars. Love the old fashion bread and great olive oil.

Still one of those secrets gems in Montreal for Greek food. Fresh, tasty delicious food. Small restaurant with great ambiance. The staff was always around to take care of of us. Great Greek wine selection too.

Had been wanting to try this neighbourhood staple for a long time. Went for a special occasion. Excellent seafood and lamb chops. Great service. Not cheap.

Google
One of the best Greek restaurants I’ve ever tried! I usually don’t like octopus or squid due to the chewy rubbery texture but this place makes their octopus sooooo tender and great fresh flavour! Greek salad with Bulgarian feta was bomb, fried zucchini and eggplant with tzaiki is another level! Mediterranean Sea bass was nice and tender.

The food is excellent, fish, lamb chops, fries, fried zucchini and eggplant, Greek salad... But the dessert, we ordered the loukoumades, some of them hard as rock. I would have given 5 **. Greek coffee is excellent too.

Yelp
This place was the most amazing place in Montreal because we had originally booked a reservation for another place, but that got messed up some how And on a Saturday night it's really hard to get a table for nine people, and this was for a bachelorette party But this restaurant took us in and took complete care of us and we're so amazing The food was out of the world we had family dishes, coming out left and right the wine was so tasty and it was like being in your family's home, eating a family meal he felt so welcomed The place was just so cute and beautiful, and the ambience was like family Thank you so much for accommodating our huge group. We had the best time and that was the best dinner we have ever had the whole time we were in Montreal and if we ever come back in town, we will definitely stop by to eat some of that yummy food.

Yelp
A friend's favorite so we stopped here later (a little after 9) on a Sunday without a reservation. They close at 10 so despite the kitchen wrapping up, they welcomed us for a late dinner. Spacious dining area with a section that shows off the fresh fish of the day-a smaller outdoor seating area.-only one table occupied given almost closing time. First, we quickly realized, for 3 of us, we ordered too much food. Started with the Fried Eggplant (Aubergine) and Tarama Salata. Both were tasty. The Tarama was milder and not as salty-every restaurant/city has their own version of my favorite dip. Greek Salad was just like in Athens-so much Feta, Olives and no lettuce -delicious. Grilled Squid was sliced thinly and perfectly seasoned! Oh we also had to try the Mexican Jumbo Shrimp-jumbo they were and tasty. At this point, we should've stopped but we had to try an entree. We ordered the Mediterranean Sea Bream (for 2) which was just right for 3 of us given our endless appetizers. The table side carving and plating of the fish was a nice touch. Fresh Bream was delicious. Of course we had leftovers. Service was very attentive and engaged matching the level of this spot. Extra thanks to the team for accommodating us at the late hour. Members of the staff thanked us as we were leaving-how often does that happen?! Don't miss this neighborhood Gem that will transport you to Athens.

Yelp
Food was very well prepared and what you would expect. A couple of notes- We had: -Sea bass, it was $180CAD -yes you did not misread. It was well cooked on the grill and probably good for 3-4 ppl as the main protein. -Grilled octopus - was average to slightly over cooked. -Lamb chops - kind of anorexic in terms of size but not the less cooked well -Mixed sides - potatoes were good along with the fried vegetables. The winner for me, was the spinach pie, flaky crust and tasty greens. Service- Overall average to below average. Our server need to be flagged down 3-4 times. We tried to order 3 bottles of wine none of which they had in stock and he relegated reading labels to find a match. Only the bus staff came to refill our glasses. It seemed like our server was the bus person that put in the time and finally got the server position - plain old lazy. Kudos to the other servers that noticed we were underserved and got his attentions for us. Ambience - Old school quaint Greek vibe with lots of (well to do) regulars. Nothing to complain about but you would expect more if you are paying $100 per person. Summary - You're not going to impress your date here. The food is good but don't expect innovation or an experience you're going to recommend to friends or business colleagues. The reason you would come back is all of the above is what you expect from a night out and can afford it.

Yelp
Favorite restaurant in Montreal by far (and I've gone to all the top rated ones). Benny is the owner and he went out of his way to accommodate my very picky 10 yr old with chicken and fries (my son is a vegan, but thought the chicken was so good, that he would give it up and eat it anyways!)! The restaurant is completely intimate, perfect for date night. There were no other kids, but they happily accommodated mine so I didn't feel out of place or uncomfortable. I actually feel like I got a break from parenting by going there (always the sign of good service). Favorite things on the menu: zucchini chips with tzadziki, fish of the day, exotic salad (can't say enough about the salad!), and of course, the Greek coffee at the end. I crave this food (and service) so badly out in San Francisco (where I now live). You'll never have a better meal, served by the nicest and most accommodating people, in a beautiful and authentic atmosphere.

Yelp
We happened upon this restaurant while we were exploring the neighborhood. It was wonderful. Everything we ate was perfectly prepared and delicious. I'm always impressed when restaurants that get grilled squid

Yelp
We didn't get in because the kitchen was closed. So we made 2nd visit next day. The food quality is way more expected. Service is great too. We will revisit for sure.

Yelp
Excellent seafood experience. Swordfish was prepared perfectly. Greek salad is authentic and the flaming cheese a must try! Great wine choices too!

Yelp
This Greek fish restaurant is the antithesis to Milos - cozy, nearly cramped seating in a low-ceilinged building tucked away on Fairmount on the Outremont side. The walls are a bit darker and adorned with fishing vessel paraphernalia and photos, and the whole thing gives off a very authentic, relaxed vibe. It's not the type of place you go to celebrate someone's graduation or wow a visitor, unless that visitor is some old leathery village fisherman from Greece. Then by all means, taken him there ASAP. The food is really good - portions are really big and the dish complexity is kept to a minimum, kind of the way a steakhouse focuses on isolating the steak. They do the same thing - you won't find reductions and confits and blended ingredients that normally never go together here. Just a huge chunk of snapper with a simple side dish. Sometimes, you just want an uncomplicated meal - Faros fits that bill perfectly. I highly recommend it!

Yelp
This place was alright. The food was expensive though. I liked the food and the Greek food selection is abundant. I really like the lamb chops here and the Greek salad also. The food preparation time is lengthy and also expensive. This restaurant is located in a hidden area of Mont Royal neighborhood which makes it a bit inaccessible which I don't like. The place never seems to be crowded which tells me this place was not really popular or making any money.

Yelp
Outstanding!! Everything is very fresh, always perfectly cooked and delicious. The fried dishes have a perfect crisp and not greasy. The octopus is the best in the city (and that includes Milos). The swordfish is sensational and great lamb chops for carnivores. Not a cheap meal but good value when comparing other restaurants of this type. A must!!!

Yelp
This is a favorite place in Montreal. I go annually with a friend and we adore it. We always get the Greek salad (the feta is amazing) and some tzatziki and grilled fresh seafood. Shrimp or scallops are always fantastic here. There should be more reviews for Faros on Yelp.
