A Hot D.C. Taqueria Unveils a Bigger Home — And More August Openings | Eater DC

"At National Landing, I saw the raw-fish-and-soft-serve-focused spot that started on the Wharf expand to a stall in the all-outdoor Water Park food hall, still selling poke, bento boxes, sushi, and soft serve in taiyaki cones while adding favorites like poke wonton nachos and spam musubi plus an Arlington-specific “The Landing Roll” with shrimp tempura and asparagus topped with seared steak and black pepper truffle aioli." - Emily Venezky

Not sure what kind of scam this place is running, but never have I ever ordered seaweed salad from a restaurant and half of what is supposed to be SEAWEED is salad greens! I’ve eaten seaweed salad for 23 years, never with salad greens. $7 for a side and they trick you by giving you half salad greens!! I know it’s seaweed salad but to dupe your customers with half basic salad greens is scamming your customer just to cut corners. Fat Fish should be ashamed of this terrible business practice. The sushi was good though.

A new kiosk restaurant has just opened at the Waterpark featuring Japanese food with all things sushi, tempura and bento boxes. My wife and I got a specialty roll and a bento box which was made quickly, tasted so fresh and was delicious. My only complaint, which is my complaint with nearly every kiosk restaurant is the price. It’s just so much to pay for lunch that there is no way I can go there frequently, especially when there are cheaper alternatives nearby that also taste delicious. I’ll definitely be back, there’s so much more of the menu that I want to try!

The wharf roll was chef’s kiss. The flavor profile hit every taste bud I expected it too. Thank you to Executive Chef Luke for his explanation and extra care. If you’re in the mood for sushi, the wharf roll is a must.

I tried this place for the first time and ordered bang bang shrimp. The bowl was full of tasty and well-balanced food. I hope my positive experiences will remain the same next time I go there and try something else. The staff was nice and accommodating.

Used to really love this place. The salmon bento boxes are great and the portion size is large for everything on the menu. Service is ok, but not sure there’s much service to be had with all ordering done online or through a tablet. Don’t come here if you are in a hurry either, for the bento boxes, I typically wait for 15 to 20 minutes. Small things that have bothered me recently is that all sushi rolls are made and cut with plastic wrap, the bento boxes now come in plastic containers rather than the cute cardboard boxes they used to have, and while they still advertise with taiyaki ice cream cones, the waffle cone offered now is just a standard hardshell (probably prepackaged) waffle cone. Good enough to stop by from time to time, but not a place I’d recommend.

My colleague placed an online order and received a notification that it was ready. When we arrived, we could actually see our food sitting at the pickup window. Unfortunately, no one acknowledged us for nearly 20 minutes. The first time we tried to get someone’s attention, an employee actually closed the sliding window right in my colleague’s face after handing another customer their order. At no point did anyone apologize or make an effort to help us. It was a frustrating and disappointing experience. We will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this place to anyone who values basic customer service.

Google
Ordered the fish and chips bento box. It was good but I couldn’t finish it because it was frozen in the middle. I kind of expected them to offer a refund but they offered to remake it. It took awhile so that didn’t work for me. I’ll try again but I expect better for the price.

Google
This is a kiosk in an outdoor food hall. Unfortunately it took 30 minutes from the time we ordered on the tablet to when the poke/sushi was ready. There were only two people working, people ahead of us complained about the wait time for their food, and they seemed to be prioritizing Uber Eats/DoorDash orders over customers who were present. The food was fine, but be aware the seaweed salad is on a bed of lettuce so what you see pictured on the menu is a bit deceiving, it’s not all seaweed. Overall the food is good, but have to give the 1-star for the long wait at a takeaway kiosk. They probably need more staff.

Yelp
Amazing, quick lunch option at the Waterpark! This is just one of the restaurants in the outdoor food court of the Waterpark and it is such a nice addition to the area. My friend and I's sushi rolls were really fresh and the staff was kind to assist us through any questions. There are many options to choose from and they offer some non sushi food options as well!

Yelp
I got a poke bowl here and it was insanely fresh. The fish tasted clean, the toppings were flavorful, but the portions were questionable. The staff moved fast even though it was busy, and everything came out quickThe flavors were balanced, but the bowl was very skimp.

Yelp
Came here because it was close to our accommodation in Arlington. Out of all the meals we had in DC, this was one of the best valued ones. I got the Fat Fish poke because it also contained white fish, which is something I'd never seen at poke restaurants before. All the ingredients were very fresh, especially the avocado, which they gave a pretty generous amount of, and of course the fish. Sauces and seasonings worked really well together. Wanted to finish off with a soft serve taiyaki, but unfortunately their machine was broken.

Yelp
Fat Fish is a food vendor at Water Park National Landing, one of two in the DMV area. Ordering was easy since there is a kiosk available. Compared to other poke places, I'd say Fat Fish is pricier. BUILD YOUR OWN - 17.50 Each comes with one protein, four toppings, a base (rice, veggies, or additional charge for wonton chips), and sauce. I got a mix of mixed greens and rice for my base, poke salmon for my protein, and the following toppings: avocado, edamame, scallions, and seaweed salad (+0.50). This was OK. The salmon wasn't very fatty and it was just... there. The veggies were fresh and the rice was a bit sticky. Overall, nothing special. I don't know if this was worth $18 + 10% Arlington tax.

Yelp
Have been here a few times since they opened and the food is really fresh and flavorful! Our favorite items are their poke bowls and the spam musubi. I really liked their spicy tuna bowl and think it was actually a really big size, had a huge piece of avocado so I had leftovers. This is definitely a place that you can feel good about eating from as the food is fresh and relatively healthy! Also love their taiyaki rolls -- the cinnamon cereal milk is really unique and the toppings are plentiful here! While this isn't a full sit down restaurant, there's plenty of seating nearby and it's nice to be able to sit by the water/fountains! Definitely will be a regular spot for me.

Yelp
Unbelievably slow. This is set up like a quick stop but I waited 30mins. No updates, no oh, we're working on it. Then I finally get my food, sushi rice is not cooked! It's hard! But to make matters worst, the shrimp tempura that should be in the roll is just tempura dough, NO SHRIMP! Absolutely no the worst sushi I've ever had.

Yelp
Returned to pick up some sushi for dinner. This time I ordered the Gaijin in addition to my usual Spicy Tuna. It was absolutely delicious!

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of Fat Fish, and their second location in Crystal City is just as amazing as the first! It's part of a series of stand alone shops/shacks, and all the classic Fat Fish options are available, but I really love getting a custom bowl. You can mix and match all your favorite toppings, and it's such a fun way to customize the meal exactly how you want it. I'm particularly obsessed with the spicy salmon-- I get it with mixed greens and rice, and they really pack in the toppings. It's always so generous that I can easily get two meals out of one bowl, which is a huge bonus. The quality is always top-notch, and I genuinely wish I could eat here for lunch and dinner every day! The atmosphere is great too. The surrounding area with all the other food shacks is super nice, and there's plenty of seating. The lights in the evening create a great vibe, and the heaters are perfect for when it gets a little chilly. The service is fast, and they never skimp on portions -- I love that!

Yelp
This is the best restaurant in national landing easily. Best, freshest poke bowl I've ever had in my life. Every single bowl I've ever gotten is like 5 lbs of food it's insane. The tuna is not chopped like other poke bowls it's so soft and tender. It's spicy and fresh and the owner and all the workers are the nicest people I've ever me. Sorry pics are from my insta story lol

Yelp
This is a solid poke and sushi place! The fat roll is really good and the combination of toppings for the poke bowl went well with the fish. Prices are definitely a little high but to be expected for sushi

Yelp
I got the spicy tuna poke bowl from Fat Fish during my lunch break. The taste was a bit underwhelming but was a good portion size for the price. Most of the food in the other stalls next door are around the same price. The service was quick so perfect for getting lunch when you're in a pinch!

Yelp
Food was ready quickly and the area was nice. Sat at a bench with a friend and we both enjoyed everything.

Yelp
I wish I could rate the sushI, but I never got the chance to eat it, it sat in the window in the sun for 20 minutes while I waited for them to call my name. When I did go to ask they handed it to me and it was very warm. When I asked about them making a fresh one for me the staff couldn't understand english. I ended up throwing it away and walking off since it would be useless to continue and was very busy.

Yelp
Fat fish was decent. It is a good location at the water park in Crystal City. I'd say the bowl is pricey, but serves an adequate portion of food. Everything tasted fresh and good. Agreeably, the fish could have been more flavorful- but I am happy with it enough to want to return.

Yelp
Had a poke bowl here, and it was fantastic! Fresh ingredients and great flavors. Highly recommend!
