Italy’s Famous Fatamorgana Gelato Shop Opens Soon in Beverly Hills - Eater LA

"One of Italy’s most recognizable dessert shops, Gelateria Fatamorgana, has a new local location on the horizon. The famous Italian company already has a popular outlet up in Studio City, but is now looking to expand to Beverly Hills. News of the westward expansion comes by way of roving reporter Toddrickallen, who spotted signage for the company in a window on South Beverly Drive. The former retail space is apparently undergoing construction now to flip into a scoop shop, with plans to open sometime in or around March of 2019. As the signage in the window indicates, Fatamorgana is known for its wide menu of over 60 flavors, including more than two dozen vegan options. The company’s three shops in Rome are both local favorites and big tourist hits, leading to long lines during the peak summer travel season. Of late Fatamorgana has been keen to expand stateside, and is currently working on franchise licensing for new locations. Eater reached out for more details on the new Beverly Hills outlet, but so far has not heard back." - Farley Elliott

One of my favourite gelato store in LA, I came back a lot of times and it’s been my 10th time or so back here, I love their rich gelato taste and would definitely recommend you to go visit here, they have a wide range of flavors you can choose, for example you have 14 types of chocolate gelato you can choose, so you can have a bit more fun choosing what you want, really recommend it! The people working there are also very nice and friendly and they provide tables and chairs for you to sit inside or outside.

Google
This Gelato shop is soooo delicious! I can't believe the sheer amount of selection here! 31 flavors eat your heart out! Fatamorgana Gelato pretty much have every flavor under the sun that you can ask for, and then some! For me, I got the Basil Walnut & Honey as my first scoop and the Gorgonzola Walnuts & Dates. Both are definitely more on the exotic flavor, but boy did the samples won me over. Both are layered but works very well on their own and together. Texture wise they're what I expect from excellent Italian-style Gelato and reminds me of the delicious gelatos I had in Rome last year. Fatamorgana Gelato may be my new favorite dessert shop, especially since there are so many flavors to go back and try. I'm glad they have two locations, with the other one in Studio City and closer to my house. I can't wait to go back!

Google
This gelato place has a large number of very unique flavors and it is delicious. I’ve been in there a few times now and I can’t get enough! It’s such a perfect little sweet treat to eat while walking around in a great neighborhood.

Google
Absolutely delicious Gelato! Plenty of flavors to choose from, amazing service. Overall, wonderful experience at Fatamorgana Gelato in Beverly Hills! They have a sugar-free option that we really liked!

Google
Great, authentic gelato place. Tried one of their original locations on a trip to Rome and was pleased to find the LA location. The only thing is that the texture here was a bit inconsistent from flavor to flavor. But when it's good, it's really good.

Google
The vegan ice cream is great here. We enjoyed it very much. 24 flavors, many fruity, I would say the most interesting was pickle pear, which tastes literally like pitaya fruit! We loved the flavor apple pie so much! And we got also all 3 kinds of vegan chocolate flavors. Each was perfect. And they have also vegan cones. Nice service, nice atmosphere and area. Thank you!

Google
I'm not that big of a fan of ice cream or Gelato but I would come here again for the flavors, such a large selection of natural fresh flavors, i just wish I could try more of them!

Tracy Saunders

Google
Mmmmmmm, mmmmmm and super nice staff! An amazing variety of gelato. Size of the scoop was shockingly tiny for the price. Overall, I would come again because of the great service and helpfulness in choosing the right gelato. Parking is easy and people watching is excellent!

Yelp
This was such a great find. The gelato was refreshing. There's over 60 flavors. And just randomly sampling, they were soooo good. There is vegan, gluten free, nut free, dairy free options. The service was awesome. He offered great suggestions. The atmosphere was quiet and just refreshing. I will be back. It's not everyday that I can find REAL Gelato. And dairy free ice cream.

Yelp
Honestly wasn't great. I was hoping the gelato would be creamy as it should. However this was one of the iciest gelato I have had. I really wanted to like this. Got a gianduja and venezuela chocolate. The gianduja was a hair too sweet. The chocolate was really icey and not a flavor I'd get again

Yelp
Parking: Love the 2 hour free lot on S Beverly Drive by Sweet Lady Jane! Experience: I get why they do it, but the fatal flaw of this place is the 3 sample limit when they have like 60 flavors! It's overwhelming in a good way. It's $6.90 for a small with up to 2 flavors, which is pretty much the going rate for ice cream these days. I got the hazelnut and stracciatella which was a great combo! There's a tiny bit of seating inside and a few big tables outside.

Yelp
If I can't have Fatamorgana in Rome- this is the next best thing. There is NO OTHER mint chip ice cream or gelato in the world that tastes better than the mint chip here. They use actual mint leaves that end up as little tiny mint flakes in your scoop. To die for! Also- everything is gluten free which is just the cherry on top. My husband who eats all things gluten- also loves the cones and the stracciatella.

Yelp
Gourmet gelato shop located the heart of Beverly Hills near many other shops and restaurants. So many flavors to choose from and 24 of their flavors are vegan. I got a small cup of the vegan chocolate & orange flavor. It was rich and creamy like a truffle in ice cream form. Orange and chocolate together is such a great combo. Also tried their snickerdoodle cookie which was tasty. Service was quick and easy. Didn't think to ask for samples but I will next time. I also didn't realize there was an option for a mini scoop. I will get that next time as well as the gelato was rich and so I think a smaller version would be fine. The place looked very clean. They are cashless. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They have a pretty flower display on the building. It's a good place for a photo op. Metered parking on the street.

Yelp
The best and most authentic and real gelato you can find in the states! This takes this ice. There are so many flavors, but it's the richness of the texture that takes you back to Italia. Well done!

Yelp
I first had Fatamorgana Gelato when I spent a week in Rome in 2023. I ended up going there 3 times in the week because it was so good and I wanted to try different flavors (mostly of the chocolate variety). I was glad to find out that there was a shop or 2 in LA. So on my first trip to LA in a very long time I saw that I had a gap in my schedule and decided to stop by. BTW, Fatamorgana Gelato was my second favorite gelato shop while I was visiting Italy, so expectations were high. It is a very picturesque shop with so many flavors, 66 in total. Various coffees and drinks are on the menu as well. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. I hate to say it but I was getting off putting vibes from the employee so I only sampled 3 flavors. I get it that sometimes people are having a bad day. It wasn't busy but the shop had just opened up for the day. It really only made a minor difference in my visit though. I ended up getting the Kentucky Chocolate and the Chocolate & Orange. I normally will get a chocolate flavor and a vanilla or fruit flavor to counterbalance or pair it with but with me not knowing when the next time I will be in LA I opted for 2 chocolate flavors. Chocolate & Orange was great, tart and sweet with real orange peel inside. It was my first time having it. Kentucky Chocolate is great as well. It may not sound appealing to have a tobacco flavor but it pairs very well with the chocolate, it is one of my favorites. I was slightly disappointed that there wasn't the Wasabi Chocolate flavor available. That was one of my favorites that I had in Rome. It was actually pretty spicy and had a nice kick to it. I will be sure to stop by the next time I'm in SoCal.

Yelp
Don't forget to check in with Yelp before you order here because you get a free espresso when you order a gelato "flight" sampler. Just a bit south of Wilshire Blvd on South Beverly Drive is this paradise of Italian gelato! They must have at least 50 different flavors of gelato. They have all the classics that you might be missing from Italy like Nocciola and Panna Cotta and then some more exotic flavors like goat cheese with dates (amazing!) and dark chocolate with orange. There is a cute sidewalk terrace outside to sit at and people watch. You can have all kinds of ice cream flights, expresso, macarons and also have them make you a custom ice cream sandwich. It's a little pricey, but this is Beverly Hills and the quality is outstanding. I also see that they have vegan options. To be honest, this is the best gelato that I have had in Los Angeles and after living in Italy, I can say that their traditional flavors are really up to standard. I've been here a few times and the server today was so sweet and super helpful; I had some less than nice experiences a few years ago but those people don't seem to work here anymore. So I can definitely give them five stars. There's easy parking if you can find a meter in front otherwise Beverly Hills has several free parking garages; there is one on Beverly Drive. Just make sure to check that it's a city owned parking garage because the other ones are going to charge you.

Yelp
They didn't have whole milk which is really embarrassing for a place that sells drinks at these prices, but regardless I was pleasantly surprised they use real chocolate in the hot chocolate unlike everyone else that uses a coco powder and sugar mix. She frothed up the oat milk? And mixed the Chocolate into it. She was very nice and patient and the interior was clean and fun. We had outdoor seating which was a plus too since it was hot and stuffy inside. Will be back when in the area.

Yelp
This gelato store had the most choices and selection for flavors I have ever seen worldwide and I have traveled through most of Europe and lived over there for a couple years as well. It was really an exceptional amount of choices!! It tasted fantastic, particularly their mint chocolate chip literally was made with mint leaves and you could tell because there were tiny specks of leaves, the flavor was incredible, fresh and so naturally minty!! I also had the expresso and dark chocolate and all of them were just so incredible. You could tell they did not use any wax or additives in the ingredients and there were some very fun and creative flavors there as well. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Fatamorgana is a gelato lovers dream! There are so many flavors to choose from it makes your head spin. In addition to gelato there are custard options (that contain eggs and are creamier) as well as lower cal sorbets. If you're not a big eater and want just 1 scoop, they'll let you choose 2 flavors and give you a half scoop of each. You're welcome to try as flavors as you want before deciding. The guy working the day we were there was so enthusiastic about his job. When we entered he asked "would you like a tour"? and proceeded to talk us through all the options, pointing out some of the more unusual flavors such as one with one with basil. There are a few tables outside where you can sit and enjoy your treat while people watching on Beverly Dr.

Yelp
The gelato here is really good & full of flavor. I ordered the small cup with pistachio & Rocky chocolate and they were so delicious. The service was okay, the employee made a sarcastic comment when we asked what was the best flavor..
google avatar

Larry H.

Yelp
Got a piece of cake from here and it tasted funny, after eating half I realized it was moldy on the bottom. Couldn't get a refund cause the lady working there didn't know how to do a refund cause I used Apple Pay, so I'm leaving a nasty little review instead.

Yelp
Came in today to see an old friend & was blown away by his dedication to serving everyone and leaving a smile on their faces. Proud of you Muna! You are a light in peoples' lives and I can't wait to come back again soon. Yummy affogato too!
google avatar

Yelp
Super tasty, I love samples Mojito lime was delicious Nice flavors I would come back asap
google avatar

Clayton B.

Yelp
Nice little spot with endless flavors. Some of the more unique flavor pairings I've ever seen. I went with a small cup that came with two scoops and got the blueberry cheesecake and dates flavors. The blueberry cheesecake was simply decadent, fresh blueberries and a great cheesecake flavor. The dates was my favorite, not too sweet but a full, rich dates flavor. Seating is limited inside but there's tables outside as well. Staff was helpful and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible gelato- so many choices. I enjoyed the pistachio gelato and family enjoyed other flavors.
google avatar

Emmeline W.

Yelp
So many flavors! And you can sample as many as you like (we didn't go overboard, I sweeeear). The flavors we tried were each so well-balanced and delicious, I actually didn't even realize they were all gluten-free until reading their website now. GIANDUJA: Better than any hazelnut gelato I've ever had. So decadent and creamy, with a true hazelnut roasted flavor. LEMON CURD: Refreshingly tart, and tastes so natural. I could eat a whole pint of this lol Pints & adorable "sushi" gelato packs available for sale in their freezer. If I didn't only have my hotel minifridge (sadly no freezer), I would've definitely taken a few home!

David W.

Yelp
Outrageous selection of unique flavors - each that I've tasted and/or ordered have been outstanding!

Yelp
A quick run to Fatamorgana Gelato in Beverly Hills for a GF waffle cone of vegan Grapes & Nuts/Virgin mojito lime and mint. Excellent Gelato and waffle cone. Grazie Mille.
google avatar

Gabe B.

Yelp
Gelato! Is it better than ice cream? The great debate continues, and since I'm neutral and enjoy both, I'm willing to try as much as I can. I say you should try this place! I had the snow white raspberry with apple chunks, and it was fantastico! So many flavors to choose from, but this one caught my eye, and it didn't disappoint.

Yolanda J.

Yelp
Came in the other day with my husband and OMG the flavors are amazing!! I believe Moonya or Moona was the name of the worker who helped us-- he was HILARIOUS!! Got the pineapple ginger sorbet and LORDDDD have mercy I'm obsessed. WILL be back soon!
google avatar

Richard S.

Yelp
Lots of choices and the gelato consistency was very good! Location is near the Beverly center! Service was very good considering there was a line and only one customer service person! She was very efficient, taking just enough time to help each customer and letting those that needed a taste make their choice without pressure!
google avatar

Yelp
Big Fan! So many options, seriously! I bring everyone visiting me here and they are always impressed. Vibe is good, service is great and the gelato is exceptional.
google avatar

Ari D.

Yelp
This gelato shop has many different options to choose from! I had the banana straticattera and FEEL MY KISS. I highly recommend feel my kiss!! It's hazelnut combined with vanilla and fudge... The gelato server behind the counter appeared a bit impatient, but perhaps she was just having a tough day. The interior of the shop had nice decor and well lit.... which blended well with the whole Beverly Hills vibe.
google avatar

Marissa W.

Yelp
Amazing flavors, vegan options, egg free, gluten free, sugar free. Good service and cute place to sit and enjoy coffee and gelatos. Fair prices for portions and quality

Yelp
Did I get gelato before dinner as a pick me up? Absolutely! Some friends of mine and I came out as we had dinner reservations nearby. We were a bit early so we decided to go for a stroll until our table was ready. Walking we came across Fatamorgana we all stopped where we were turned and looked at each other and nodded. No words were said. We all knew we couldn't pass up the opportunity to try this new spot, and we definitely didn't want to wait until after dinner. We walked in and were given the most friendly and welcoming greeting ever! The man behind the counter was just as eager to get us spooning gelato as we were! We were slapped in the face with what seemed like a plethora of flavors, but he was knowledgeable in all of the flavors. We had a question? No problem! Because he had the answer. He was also able to make awesome recommendations from, what guests typically get to his personal favorites, but even then there were so many to choose from. Sadly we couldn't try them all, cause we knew we still had dinner on its way... But I am definitely a new regular here! Because the flavors were immaculate! I can't wait to make my way back!!!

Yelp
WHAT ARE YOUR HOURS?????? Yes, I am frustrated. We recently moved from Studio City to Santa Monica, and loved your store in the Valley. Today I went to the Beverly Hills store to get Valentine gelato for my husband (and no small feat with traffic, hard to park, etc.) at 11:30am, and no one was there. Online, Google says you open at 12noon, and on Yelp it says 11:30am. In an effort to figure this out, I went to your website and no hours are listed; I called the store during working hours and no one answered nor is there any store information (just voicemail). Lastly, there are no operating hours on your front door/front of store. After doing all of this and then the store was closed at 11:30, I came home frustrated. Please Please...provide this information everywhere.

Yelp
Amazing assortment of flavors and they all taste natural and really yummy! They have unique flavors you won't taste anywhere else. Hands down the best gelato in LA
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite gelato shop in Beverly Hills! Came here on a Tuesday afternoon at 3pm and all the flavors are going going. Service is excellent! The guy is so accommodating... I love the ambiance too, very well designed table and stools inside and plenty outside seating. Will keep up as a regular :D
google avatar

Yelp
Tons of flavors to choose from! The only bummer is you cannot try any flavors before orders. Still everything we ordered was delicious!!!

Yelp
Fatamorgana is an Italian gelato place located in the main part of Beverly Hills. I found it while looking for an ice cream place near home that I hadn't tried previously. My husband and I came here on a Saturday afternoon. At the time, they still required masks indoors. There were two other customers in the store when we came in, and one employee. The man working behind the counter was very chatty and friendly. He had a good knowledge of the flavors and was happy to make recommendations. They do have outdoor seating and a few seats inside. They have a huge range of flavors so it was hard to make a choice. I ended up getting chocolate orange and lalaland. The lalaland consisted of raw cacao, pear and ricotta. It was a very unique flavor and you could really taste the pear. However, it was a bit grainy. The chocolate orange flavor was smooth and creamy but it contained little bits of orange peel which I didn't like. It also had a really intense orange liqueur flavor which I think some people won't like. It was my least favorite of the two flavors. My husband had the ricotta, honey and coconut flavor and vanilla flavor. Both of his flavors were good. Overall I would recommend this place and would return, but it wouldn't be my favorite gelato place in LA.
google avatar

Marc F.

Yelp
We actually first visited the one in Rome which is how we learned they had a location in the States (and now I think the have more than one), and in our backyard here in LA! When we had the chance to visit, we grabbed it. I would say my lemon was very good, but not quite as good as in Rome. My wife was dejected - she loves Rum Raisin, and everywhere she went in Italy had it. We were at Fatamorgana pretty much every day for a week and she had it each and every time and was in heaven, because it was so good there. Sadly, they don't have that flavor here in the LA location. They really should get it! It's the only reason I couldn't give 5 stars.
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
Mama Mia !!! This gelato is too die for The owner is amicable, you can tell he just loves his craft and knows every sample taste test he gives, it's genuinely delicious. Wish they had waffle cups!! Parking is horrible tho. Since it's located in a residential area of BH, but it's LA! Haha most people can relate to this. Coming back for the Pistachio asap
google avatar

Huyen C.

Yelp
Stopped by the Gelato place right after eating at Honor Bar. They have good service & the gelato was good, but nothing special. The tiramisu tasted just like the cake and I liked it. The Stracciatella was yummy as well. A cute little place to stop by after dinner.
google avatar

Annie G.

Yelp
O.M.G! This place has the best gelato outside of Italy ... Because it's from Italy. The people who work here are also great, even with long lines. As good as the dark chocolate is, the lemon sorbet is even better. Just go. You can thank me (or hate me for introducing you to such an amazing treat!) later!
google avatar

Gid K.

Yelp
All kinds of gelato with global ingredients, like 2 pistachios, one from Cali & the other from Italy. They don't do samples thanks to Covid, but the guy working the counter knows the flavors, despite his less-than-desirable taste in ska-punk music ;) JK It's our 2nd time here. Some flavors are overly sweet. They have a huge selection, with some really interesting combinations, as well as some flavorful classics. Great place to sit & enjoy a dessert & people watch. 2 hour free parking structure on the east side of the next block.

Lisa M.

Yelp
A quick walk from Roxbury Park rewarded us with deliciously, refreshing scoops of gelato. Four delighted people left with smiles on their faces! This will become a Sunday ritual!
google avatar

Cindy M.

Yelp
It was my first time here and the staff was very nice, I was able to sample a few flavors and service overall was A+++. Gelato itself was delicious. Definitely made a good choice coming here after lunch.
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Amazing assortment and nice staff. Delicious gelato and I bought a large size for a friend and they loved it!

Yelp
This is a lovely gelato place in Beverly Hills. We've tried a bunch of flavors here that are pretty good, but really the mango flavor is absolutely divine. Recently we have been coming here literally to just buy pints of the mango to take home. You can also order delivery. The ice cream is packed in insulating packaging so it usually does not melt, even if your delivery person decides to cavort around town delivering 4 other people's orders before dropping off your ice cream. The place is covid safe - their employees are masked and they require masking. I hate it when servers in food establishments are unmasked and breathe into your food. They also have hand sanitizer at the counter.
google avatar

Esther W.

Yelp
I'm a fan of this place! I came here after Sugarfish in BH as I was looking for something sweet afterwards. You're allowed to try three gelatos (and I know this, because they thought I had exceeded my three limit when I only had 2, lol.) I got the vegan cone with the tiramisu and hazelnut fudge. The flavors were amazing. They have a bunch of egg custard gelatos that I'd love to try in the future. I definitely got a kick out of it, and surprisingly, I didn't get any crazy sugar rush or anything, I was just happy with my purchase. Most recommended!
google avatar

Redd M.

Yelp
I ordered this on postmates and asked for 2 cups and 2 spoons, which they ignored completely. The ice cream itself was $18 for a pint (which is overpriced af) so you'd think they can at least give some utensils for free but no!!! The gelato itself is okay but I recommend buying it directly from the shop (because they'll provide you utensils/cups and you can get just one or two scoops of gelato). Overall, not a good experience.
google avatar

Adrian G.

Yelp
True gelato in Beverly Hills! Great flavors, some We haven't seen or tasted before. Generous servings and courteous staff. Loved sitting outdoor with our gelatos and watching people walking by. Like being on Via Veneto in Rome. Try it, you'll love it! Free 2 hour parking a few doors down.
google avatar

Evelyn F.

Yelp
Yes, it is hard to find parking, it is pricey and it is very far (40 min+) of a drive for me, but yes, the gelato is also good. I got 2 pints: one of the Mint, Milk and Chocolate, and a Passionfruit sorbetto. They are both delicious in their own right. The Mint, Milk and Chocolate has so many fresh mint leaves that isn't overpowering, but the minced leaves texture is very unique, paired well with the minced dark chocolate, I really enjoy this. The Passionfruit sorbetto is so strong and flavorful - I was impressed with this. And the seeds add a nice crunch. The pints are $15 each, but last me numerous times of scoops, so it's worth the amount of happiness it brings me each time. And there were seriously so many flavors in the display case that I'll definitely have to come back and try! There were around 10 or so flavors of pints to choose from in the freezer.
google avatar

Mazen A.

Yelp
Best gelato in the area. They have so many flavors that you don't even know where to start. The quality of the ingredients is excellent; my favorite are the sorbets. They have some seating area inside and outside; you can find metered parking or use the public parking structure on South Beverly.
google avatar

Danny Y.

Yelp
I was blown away with the variety in flavor options and how good they all are. Definitely come here more frequently. The staff couldn't be any nicer. Metered parking and lots nearby. Prices are fair when considering it's location and quality.

Sara A.

Yelp
Yummi delicious gelato ice cream .. we stayed outside it was nice Service was good Highly recommended

Yelp
60+ flavors, open late, indoor & outdoor seating yum yum! And real cookies (and you get to choose) for ice cream sandwiches
