Türkiye: İstanbul’s Asian Side, Fauna and Aida

"Fauna’s chef İbrahim Tuna is renowned as one of the most meticulous chefs in every aspect, from the selection of ingredients to the technical processes. Known for his mastery in pasta-making, Chef Tuna prepares fresh pasta using only semolina and eggs without water, creating dishes that are 'heavy, dense and fragrant'. Fauna offers a range of specialties beyond its famed pasta, including burrata dishes, lamb ravioli, and unique creations like 'maylobi' custard and 'bulaşan' chocolate mousse. The menu revolves around flavor using the finest ingredients and labor-intensive methods. The wine list is short, featuring unfiltered and natural wines. Fauna is closed on Sundays and Mondays with service available between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on other days." - The MICHELIN Guide

Fauna

"Lunch at Fauna is the perfect excuse to visit the Ataşehir district, just outside the city centre. You sit at long tables, often next to other diners, and watch the pasta being freshly made behind the counter. At Fauna, Italian and Turkish cuisine come together in rich, shareable dishes. Think ravioli with a hearty Karayaka lamb and walnut filling. The superb sorbet of organic strawberries, with a creamy texture and nicely tart, is just one example of the focus on local produce. Booking is strongly recommended!" - Michelin Inspector

I had high hopes for Fauna, especially after traveling all the way from Australia with my girlfriends. Our initial experience was promising; the waitress was attentive and helpful, and we enjoyed the two salads we ordered—they were fresh and flavourful. However, the pasta dishes were a significant letdown. We expected al dente perfection, all the pastas were undercooked but the porcini mushroom pasta was particularly undercooked and unappetizing. Despite being small portions, none of us could finish it. What truly marred our experience was the owner's complete disregard for us. He engaged warmly with the other tables, while we felt invisible, not even receiving a nod or acknowledgment. This was particularly disheartening given the restaurant's otherwise cosy atmosphere and the fact that there were only two other occupied tables. It left us feeling uncomfortable and questioning the warmth and inclusivity of the establishment. The only thing we could attribute this to, was our hijabs?? I’m puzzled by the overwhelmingly positive reviews, as my dining experiences in Australia and Italy have far surpassed what we encountered here. Additionally, considering the high prices, I expected a much better experience overall. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Fauna based on this visit.

Fauna is a casual down to earth Italian restaurant that is open only for lunch. The pastas are made fresh daily using only organic ingredients. No artificial flavourings. Italian and Turkish cuisine come together in rich, shareable dishes. Think ravioli with a Karayaka lamb and walnut filling. This may not suit the taste of those who are more used to Americanised Italian cuisine but is loved by true foodies.

Simply amazing! it's been there for a long tome and since day one the food, the prep, the quality is top notch. They only serve food during lunch time and a reservation is recommended. The lamb ragu pasta is my favorite.

I recently dined at this Italian restaurant known for its unique reservation system—you must check their website on a specific day, and even then, you need a bit of luck to secure a spot. The food was delicious; I especially enjoyed the Burrata Tabağı , and my pre-ordered Karayaka kuzu ıncıklı was perfect. However, the prices are on the higher side, and the communal seating isn’t my preference. Many Dishes had an overwhelming sheep flavor, which might not be to everyone’s liking. Overall, a great experience,

The quality of the pasta and its ingredients from local suppliers is solid, but I would prefer to enjoy it in an Italian setting with a cooler vibe.

I’ve heard about here a lot and at last tried it. Awesome pasta if you like it the Italian way! Also the blackcurrant sorbet was delicious. The menu changes depending on the season and what the owner finds fresh.

Such rich flavors from the pasta, and one of the better burrata I’ve had.

Yelp
It is in a weird location and area. Hidden somewhere in Atasehir. I would put this place in a trendy neighborhood. I had pea soup and pasta with basil pesto. The pasta was cooked to perfection. Little al dente like it is supposed to. Soup was delicious. As a dessert we had sorbet and pudding. Both were really tasty. I think the chef owner's name is Ibrahim. He makes everything from scratch and he tries not to use anything processed such as tomato paste. Yes, he doesn't even use tomato paste. I said the location is weird but I think I would rather them stay where they are so they can keep their standards and fair prices same. The only con is their hours but then again he probably wants to make sure he can keep his quality same level. I am going there for lunch today:)
