The Best Spice Bags In London - London - The Infatuation

"Scaldy's spice bags are up there with Coke (full fat, don't start) and pasta bakes as top-tier hangover food. The peppercorn-heavy spice mix evenly coats the chips—which stay crisp rather than turn into a sad, soggy mess—and the slightly sweet satay sauce is worth getting as an add-on. You can, and should, get it from City bar Feeney's, along with a pint." - sinead cranna

Feeney's 5 Lloyds Avenue - Review - City - London - The Infatuation

"Feeney’s is a straightforward City bar by Tower Hill, full of people who probably do CrossFit at lunch. Still, the service is all warm, Irish hospitality, the Guinness is good, and the spice bags—courtesy of Scaldy—are even better. Order at the bar, from a member of staff who will kindly try to warn you that, no, you really can’t manage a munch box—two spice bags with chicken balls, spring rolls, curry, and satay sauces—all by yourself. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch We like to take our pint upstairs, where this glass box of a bar feels more pub-like. Framed horse racing pictures and brown leather seats make it a cosy place to relax while waiting for your spice bag: a white paper bag, with enticing drops of condensation from crisp, steaming chips, comes with either chicken, tofu, or beef. All the meat can be a bit dry, but the mild, creamy curry sauce helps to rectify that. It's comforting and carby enough to be suitable end-of-night food, but you could also eat one at lunch in front of a colleague and still have a job on Monday. Food Rundown photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Munch Box The only question with the munch box is: will you or your wooden fork break first? A 12-inch pizza box comes full to the brim and while the small spring rolls and chicken balls are pretty average, the chips are excellent. They remain crispy all the way to the bottom of the box, with a pleasing salty, sweet spice blend. We're also big fans of the thinly sliced and caramelised peppers and spring onions. All in all, it ticks the box for messy, comforting carbs. And if you've had a spice bag before, you'll find it a step up from the average soggy takeaway. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Spice Bag Spice bags include everything in a munch box, but without chicken balls and spring onions. So actually, we would order this instead. If anything, they could use even more of that tasty, scorched vegetable mix. But to talk about balance with a spice bag feels like missing the point." - Sinéad Cranna

Spice bag (or a munch box)

I craved that proper irish vibe here in London. Guinness in hand, spice bag in the other and wondering how to eat and drink at the same time. I’m so glad I found this gem!

Delighted to find another pub in London where the Guinness passes muster! Sally delivered a perfect pint to my table. Will definitely return for a Spice bag in due course that's been recommended to me.

Excellent Irish bar with very friendly staff. Outdoor area nice and spacious. Pop up kitchen with various foods. At the moment it’s Spice Bags which is spiced chips and chicken/beef/tofu.

Went here for the first time on Paddy's Day. Got there nice and early to ensure we secured a table, the staff were quick and efficient, they even brought our Guinness to the table, true Irish style. Not outrageously priced. Worth another visit? To be sure!

I got the last pint of Beamish from the keg, it stopped just short of a pint so the bar lady gave me a free bag of Taytos! It's a really cool place. I also had a bottle of Mo's Lager

Came here for the Spice Bag but loved the vibe of this pub on a midweek evening. The staff were really friendly and reminded people to order before the kitchen shut. There was live music too and a nice outside area for Summer evenings.

Went for the spice bag that had gone viral online. It was ok. Chips were overcooked so quite hard, couldn't even stick the fork in them. Had to use fingers. Not a great deal of chicken in it but the spicy seasoning was nice. The battered chicken bites on the side were awful. Absolutely dripping in grease they were inedible. All you could taste was grease. Staff were very friendly. Out of 10 for food? 4 Would I return? No.

Happy St Patricks Day. The pub was buzzing with revelry. A new home for Scaldy's spicebag. I'm pleased with the Murphys on tap, I'll need to find Caffrey's if its on tap in London. I ordered the chicken spicebag and the spring rolls like I did previously at The Dog when I had it for my lunch. The spicebag was far too overly spiced, burnt even. I have seen many other patrons leaving quite a fair bit left in their meal. Disappointing. The spring roll was fair, the chili sauce was nice. I found another pub in London which does Murphys on tap, at least.
