Yelp
Located in the very busy French Quarter, Felix's stands out with its bright red neon sign, large restaurant with multiple spaces for seating, and people waiting outside. As I entered the restaurant towards the back entrance, my partner and I were seated promptly at the bar where our order was taken. As it is our first night in New Orleans, we were excited about the best food this city has to offer.
What we ordered:
Char grilled oysters: The dish they are probably most well-known for, the char grilled oysters at Felix's is as worthy competitor to all its other oyster opponents. It is smoky, topped off with breadcrumbs, some parmesan, and a lemon squeeze, all with a side of French baguette. Though the oysters were rather smaller than expected, for $29/dozen, I would consider it pretty worth. I enjoyed the dish overall and, as someone who isn't a super big oyster eater, it was my first step into being a favorite.
NOLA sampler: Consisting of mini bowls of jambalaya, etouffe, and red beans and rice, it was a great complement to the buttery and rich oysters. Though I was expecting the dishes to be spicier, the jambalaya still gave a nice kick, and the etouffe was very flavorful itself. However, I found myself unable to stop eating those red beans and rice, an unexpected competitor in the ring. Didn't think it would be something I loved but there was something in those beans. So smokey, so flavorful, maybe it had some meat component? SO GOOD.
Overall, food is great. Located in the FQ, it is a lively environment full of drunk and happy people. I know I definitely left drunk and happy that night!
