I love Paris. The food, the wine, the coffee and establishments. They say the French are rude, but I don't agree. They definitely know how to leave me alone to enjoy my meal.. I especially like sitting down in a restaurant, and knowing that the servers are not going to bother me until I finish my meal or when I ask for the check. Be warned: **Feu Pho is NOT like Paris. I used to really like this place. It is in my neighborhood and the Vietnamese fare was "serviceable" and possibly above that level. It's not as good now, you can get better Pho or Bun driving just a few minutes east or west.. It's also fairly expensive for what it is. I walked out paying 30$ plus tip for a bowl of mediocre soup with under-cooked noodles and egg rolls. The broth I will give 6 out of 10.
The most obnoxious part of the meal, was the feeling of being rushed out, because apparently they close at 9pm. I was halfway through my soup slurping, when the server plops down a check onto the table, expecting me to pull out my credit card, chop! chop!, with my chop sticks and spoon in hand. I moved the damn thing out of my way because I really didn't like it in my face (registering annoyance).
I was about to lift the bowl to my mouth and gobble up the rest of the broth when the server interrupts me again, now pointing to the check from behind the counter and says, "Can you take care of this now?"
I have to say, this was very poor behavior from any server I've witnessed in LA or anywhere. I REALLY did not enjoy my overly-expensive Pho at this point, and I didn't even get to finish it.. I will be going back to my usual joints on Sepulveda, where the food is consistent, moderately priced, and the service is great! At the end of the day, it's worth the extra 10 minutes in the car.
I will not be returning to Feu Pho Kitchen.
