Ficuzza - Review - West Village - New York - The Infatuation

"Ficuzza, a Sicilian restaurant in the West Village, is from the same people behind the Realmuto pastry shops. They’ve got pizzas and pastas of course, like a fusilli with roasted almond and tomato sauce, as well as some steaks, grilled Sicilian sausage, and branzino. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman

New NYC Restaurant Openings in New York City, February 2025 | Eater NY

"A new Sicilian restaurant from a hospitality group known for gelato opened with a menu inspired by its namesake village, helmed by executive chef Romulo Barrientos; expect dishes like spaghetti with sardines, thin-crust pizzas, and skirt steak with Sicilian tomato sauce that evoke regional Sicilian flavors." - Emma Orlow

Pasta was just bland. Pesto didn’t taste like it had any nuts or cheese in it, very watery. We added salt to help but the Gnocchi just tasted like nothing. Wife felt the same about her pasta alla Norma. Tomato sauce still tasted like it was straight out of the can barely developed on the stove or incorporated with the eggplant. It just felt rushed and hap hazard. Don’t advertise yourself as Sicilian if your pasta alla Norma is just blah. Not cheap pricing and nothing on the menu was homemade either. I mean if we were in an airport or Cleveland it would be acceptable or good, but in the west village the standards are higher. There’s plenty of home made pasta spots that charge $10 less per dish that are way better. Cool spot to sit outdoors but not impressed with the food. Not the fastest service either and table wobbled. Bread was pretty good.

We stopped by Ficuzza on Sunday during Pride. The restaurant had a calm, relaxed vibe, and we enjoyed a nice view of the street from the patio. Our server, Fidel, was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. The food was fantastic! We started with the Fritto Misto di Mare, which was perfectly crunchy and fresh. Then we tried the Salmon and the Sardina Spaghetto — the salmon sauce was absolutely delicious, I couldn’t get enough of it! To finish, we grabbed a gelato from their gelato shop — such a treat, truly delicious! We also had the pleasure of meeting Chef Niccola, who came to our table. He was so professional and kind — it really showed how much care goes into this place. Thank you to the entire staff for such an amazing experience! We’ll definitely be back.

Ficuzza is another great Italian joint in the West Village. They offer complimentary bread at the beginning of the meal, which was a pleasant surprise! A rarity nowadays. They appear to be half-pastry shop, half-restaurant, so it is no surprise that their breads were phenomenal. The Margherita pizza is one of my favorites in NYC: light, but present tomato sauce, mild and stretchy mozzarella, chewy and charred crust. The rigatoni alla norma was solid. The oil soaked eggplant added a nice texture and fatty flavor to the dish. The noodles were a little too al dente for my taste, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. The service staff are attentive without being overbearing. I’ll be back! And next time, I’ll save room for dessert.

Had a wonderful meal here. Choose to take myself on a self date. Had a main dish, dessert, 2 glasses of wine, and a coffee. The service from the bar staff was unmatched and the food delicious. The dessert especially was incredible. Highly recommend!

Fidel was an outstanding server and truly went out of his way to make our anniversary special. He was attentive, friendly, and easy to converse with, all while staying organized with his tables and even helping his coworkers balance the floor. He really made us feel taken care of, and his service deserves recognition a raise wouldn’t be out of place. The food was delicious overall: we shared the cheese and meats platter and a spicy salami pizza, both of which were a perfect 10/10. My pasta, however, was closer to a 7/10. Still, Fidel’s service made the evening memorable and elevated the experience.

The pesto trapanese pasta is truly wonderful. One of the better ones I've had. Amazing service too (I was helped by Fidel). Would highly recommend this place in west village

I tried the Struccola and a Burrata with Prosciutto at Ficuzza — both were absolutely delicious! The burrata was creamy and fresh, the prosciutto perfectly balanced, and the Struccola was something unique I haven’t found anywhere else in NYC. The atmosphere in West Village makes it even better. Truly feels like a little piece of Sicily in the city. Highly recommend!

The fennel salad was AMAZING. The broccoli rabe was delicious as well. We were visiting from out of town and if I was a local this spot would be a staple. Staff was lovely as well!

Yelp
This place used to be the bar of Realmuto (the gelateria next door) but for some reason they handed it over to Ficuzza. After this, the food aesthetics and overall interior aesthetics declined a bit. It's a little tacky but it's fine if you're going for the nice outdoor seating or open air indoor dining. You would think this place would be packed from the foot traffic. But you'll always find a seat at the bar or for dining. Last time I went was for a bite and drinks at the bar. It's a nice, clean place to casually stop in and after get a gelato next door. Last time I visited I got the Fritto Misto and it was yummy. It was lightly breaded and the seafood was fresh. The Sicilian lemonade is very tart which goes great with the fried seafood. I frequent this place when in the area as it's a good pit stop and reliably clean inside.

Yelp
I was in NYC for a jazz show, and hastily researched local Italian restaurants. Ficuzza popped up and had decent reviews - so we gave it a try. My wife and I enjoyed a nice meal and a tasty Italian wine. The food was good, but not exceptional. Overall, the experience was somewhere in the middle between casual dining and fine dining. It just didn't resonate as a memorable meal. The prices were fair, particularly for NYC.

Yelp
Had a great dinner at Ficuzza, the food was very authentic Italian and the pizza was just delicious and crusty! Good service overall and ambience is very family oriented! Truly recommended place to dine, have an aperitivo or dessert!

Yelp
Ficuzza is a warm Italian restaurant on 7th Avenue South. Named after the chef/owner's hometown in Sicily, it is styled as a Sicilian restaurant. While there are a few Sicilian specialties (the pizza and cannoli would be laughed at -- or worse -- in Palermo, and certain parts of Brooklyn for that matter) on the menu, is essentially just another Italian restaurant. The food is good, as is the service. Given that Ficuzza has only a beer and wine license, they really need to up their wine game. To sum it up, Clemenza definitely would have left the cannoli and taken the gun (IYKYK).

Yelp
Lovely space. Solid drinks. Note to management: please do not allow your waitstaff to wear cologne. There were two waiters who were drenched in Zara eau de toilet and it overpowered the experience. This is basic management. Also, please invite guests to take their speakerphone conversations onto the sidewalk. I am not spending money to listen to other peoples phones. Thanks!

Yelp
Really loved the ambiance - super cute and rustic. Unfortunately, the food didn't do it for me. I got the eggplant mojito and couldn't even finish it. That said, my friend had the lasagna and swore it was the best he's ever had, so maybe it's just me. ‍

Yelp
Food is excellent. Service is excellent. Great for larger groups (my group had 7 ppl). Great vibe. The manager Andrea is both welcoming and hilarious. I'm in the neighborhood often and am deeply concerned I will balloon to 700 pounds if I keep coming here.

Yelp
Unsafe, unprofessional, uncertified. Extremely alarmed with our experience. The glass my friend was drinking out of shattered as she was drinking from it, causing a deep cut that bled uncontrollably for over 10-15 minutes. The waiter's response was shockingly dismissive - he downplayed the situation, claiming he gets cut all the time, and didn't handle it properly. We had to continuously go back to him asking for first aid. To top it off, despite being a wine bar, he informed us they cannot serve certain drinks because they do NOT have a liquor license. Poor service, unsafe practices, and lack of proper handling of an injury make this place unacceptable. Please reconsider the quality and the safety of the glassware used as well as ensure staff are trained to address emergencies.

Yelp
Amazing food ! Place is cozy and warm, staff is attentive and professional. This place is special as it serves truly authentic Sicilian dishes.

Yelp
Truly awful service matched only by equally terrible food. While the restaurant's aesthetic may lure people in, it's unlikely anyone would return after experiencing what we did. The Caesar salad was carelessly prepared and barely edible; the only remotely decent item was the pizza, which was merely fine. The real reason I'm writing this is because of what happened during our meal: we were seated outside when a storm suddenly broke. Our waitress had just dropped the food off when it started pouring. We were forced to grab our plates--pasta, pizza, and salad--and run them inside ourselves. Once we were moved indoors, the waitress set our soaked, cold food on a table and simply walked away without a word. No one ever checked on us again. I dine out frequently in NYC, and this was easily one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.

Yelp
Charming new Village restaurant! Ficuzzi... Last night I had the pleasure of dining at a new Greenwich Village restaurant called Ficuzza. Ficuzzi is across from the old Riviera on 7 Ave between Christopher and 10 St. The atmosphere was lovely and believe it or not QUIET! The food was way above average. I had the Branzino with spinach and it was delicious. The wait staff and the owner were very friendly and accommodating. They are not stingy with their wine pour and realize it is only wine and not gold. I also thought the wine selection by the glass was quite good. I am so happy to welcome this new, quiet and outstanding restaurant to the neighborhood. It is rare these days to be able to enjoy a cozy and delicious dinner in a quiet and elegant atmosphere. Give it a try! I really recommend this charming new treasure to the neighborhood.

Yelp
Wonderful Italian restaurant with authentic Sicilian cuisine, wide variety of pastas and pizzas as well. Superb desserts (they have a phenomenally good pasticcetia next door. Cozy ambiance and first rate service. Heartily recommend

Yelp
I wish I took pictures of the food! Got here early before dinner with friends and sat at the bar. The vibes were great and it was super lively. The staff was super friendly. At dinner we shared a bunch of apps and mains. We got two orders of the fusilli and I wish we got more! The best pasta dish I've had in so long. After dinner the chef came out to ask how our dinner was and gave us a free dessert (in addition to the multiple we ordered). Overall, a great dinner spot! I can't wait to go again.

Yelp
A new restaurant in the west village with great food and great service. It's connected to a gelato shop, so it's on the smaller side which makes it great for a more intimate dinner where you get to hear conversations. A great place to go enjoy a drink, conversation and delicious pizza.
