great little diner, really great service. no WiFi, lots of coffee refills, cash only for under $20. i had a yummy omelet and home fries. no fuss, just food. recommend.

I have been in large, modern diners where the servers tend to a few tables each and I have to wait and wait. The Fifth Avenue Diner has one (1) person working EVERY table, the counter and the cash register, yet the service is impeccable. Orders taken quickly, coffee filled and refilled, food services in a timely manner and hot. Dated place, but clean and pleasant. Front is open, so it’s nice and cool. Clean bathroom. Accessible ♿️. It’s the way all diners should be.

There are many other options in the area, including other diners. What I especially like about this place is the neighborhood feel. When I walked in they greeted me by saying hi, a new friend. I sat at the counter and Manuela was a gem, polite, friendly and efficient. As a cleanliness nut, this place is extremely clean which I love. I had a feta, mushroom omelet with grits. The feta melted nicely and blended really well with the eggs and mushrooms. The grits were creamy and tasty. As I write my review I can hear various chit chat and the overall environment is a a community friendly place with fresh, tasty food at a reasonable price. I look forward to coming back.

Google
I never leave reviews but this place was not good at all. The food was bad, the service was okay, and the ambiance wasn’t great either. I should’ve known I made a mistake when there was only one dude eating alone in a booth and the worker behind the counter was ordering take out from another restaurant. Both my kids complained that the food was repeating on them later that night. Avoid this place if you’re looking for a good diner or coffee shop cuz this isn’t it.

Google
Very, very disappointed with treatment. When I arrived the lady told me if only one person counter only. There were 5 empty tables (boots), I understand if was crowded or only one table was available but there were 5 available tables. I guess she was expecting group visit or so. How she can know what I am going to order , how mush $ to spend . Maybe I am going to order for 2 persons , maybe I can eat a lot. It was really insane , and I would give 0 if I could.

Google
I mentioned that the Mac didn’t have a lot of flavor it seemed familiar and there was a soupy like finish to it. The lady who was in charge or appeared to be explained, that the Mac was Kraft boxed Mac n Cheese. To my amazement I was just charged $11 for my child to eat box Kraft that cost a consumer $00.50 cents. More importantly in his 4 years on this planet he’s never had boxed Mac n cheese. Not to mention the cheeseburger I had was dry and took a liter or two of water to wash it down. I only wish I crossed the street and got burgers.

Deserves nothing less than 5 stars. Good food, prices and super kind staff

Yelp
The food and ambience was typical diner fare. Having said that, I enjoy diners, and this was no exception! The service was quick, friendly and efficient. Just the way I love it! We ordered an egg, cheese and bacon sandwich on an everything bagel. Also, a breakfast plate with sausage, scrambled eggs, home fries (fried scalloped potatoes) and a cinnamon raisin bagel. Everything was served hot and was delicious. We have leftovers to enjoy tonight as a late night snack! If you see me sitting in a booth enjoying a breakfast sandwich, say hi and join me for good food and even better conversation.

Yelp
Employee service was much better than I expected. Although, The restaurant itself looked kind of bland and boring. Also I had dinner when there were very few other customers. So that maybe why the service and dish I ordered was satisfactory. Im actually surprised nobody else came for dinner on a Friday night.

Jewels M.

Yelp
I went there for an early lunch with my husband. The service was very friendly, and the food came fast. I had the double decker turkey club and my husband had the pastrami decker club. Both were delicious. They both came with fries and an option of onion rings with coleslaw and a pickle. You can't go wrong for the price and quality of the food. Please give this neighborhood gem a chance. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Horrible horrible horrible customer service and FOOD - YUCK So on thanksgiving we decided to order 4 dinners because it was just easier for us, while we were catering to 2 elderly family members - BIG MISTAKE The dinners were the worst meals we have ever had. The " Supposed " turkey seems like it was a sliced turkey from " Cold Cuts " The sweet potatoes looked like a colored pile of mud that was just disgusting. The stuffing - well, that tasted like sand. EVERYTHING was just BAD. When I called to speak to someone that said they were the owner, after having a hard time with her, she said she will refund only 3 of the dinners. 4 days later and still no refund. Called today and she said - Call your bank and get it because she will not refund it. Big big mistake dealing with this diner. Much better places around to go to than this disgusting place.

Yelp
Popped in for breakfast on a whim yesterday . Cute place, good menu, good service and very good food! I would def go back . Breakfast was very good

Lafayette H.

Yelp
I'm still going from time to time. Especially when I am in the mood for pancakes. Cinnamon and jelly on top I eat instead of syrup. Sitting outside on the tables during Covid has been a nice alternative. Ok. I m done here.

Tara B.

Yelp
Classic diner experience. Friendly waitress, coffee refills, delicious pancakes. Would definitely come back :)

Miracle K.

Yelp
Authentic. Quick. Diverse menu. Cold champagne beer and hot coffee. Delightful servers. Warm and inviting. Family friendly as well. Will be back!

Marlena K.

Yelp
Standard Diner food, large portions. I ordered from here after a long night of being out and in the morning I wanted an omelette and fries! I have to say there omelettes are huge.I ordered the Spanish omelette I believe that is what its called. It was loaded with veggies. They made my friends omelette perfect, but my omelet I explicitly specified NO ONIONS due to my allergy. IT ARRIVED WITH ONIONS. Ugh. Called them they said sorry and sent me another omelet but it took a lot of time. I really appreciate it but it was annoying to eat alone since my friend finished eating. I think one person can easily share the three egg omelet. ITS HUGE and comes with lots of fries and bread. GET THE SWEET POTATO FRIES! They are not cheap on portion size. I would order from them again, they were ok. I just hope next time they get it right. Downside? For delivery only cash is accepted.

Yelp
This is my go to place when I have the kids with me! They have a $8.50 lunch special for kids under 12 - burger and fries, chicken and friends, spaghetti and meatballs, mac and cheese ...plus choice of drink and ice cream! It's a great deal and alot of food. I got my usual greek salad. The friend got a panini which was massive. Because of covid the glass door windows are open and there is seating on 5th ave. Though it isnt ideal with the bus constantly passing us, we enjoyed a bit of normalcy for once!

Sharee A.

Yelp
Classic diner food! The kids enjoyed themselves. We had pancakes, fries, florentine eggs Benedict, waffles and Reuben. Only gave it 4 stars because their credit card machine was down and we had to run out and get cash.

Ellie P.

Yelp
Good food, great service! Fluffiest pancakes I've ever had, with plenty of syrup. Waitress was excellent and attentive to refills. Most reasonable prices in Park Slope, in my opinion.

Janine A.

Yelp
Complete disregard for Covid. The entire restaurant including counter was packed. Every single seat taken. Why do all of the restaurants in New York City have to follow the rules and they don't. Clearly don't care about their customers. The diner basic food was sub par even for basic diner food.

Bria D.

Yelp
I've been coming here since 2011 and I enjoy the food here. The staff is usually pleasant. I love the breakfast selection here and the decor is pleasant to look at. ...

Mickey L.

Yelp
This is pretty saddening for me to do since I normally don't give reviews especially after being a daily customer for the past 4 months. But yesterday October 15th, 2018 I ordered my meal to go which was good as usual and I got a slice of carrot cake as desert which I've never had a problem with before but yesterday the carrot cake had MOLD inside! That I didn't realize nor notice until my third bite tasting very weird, this is a shock to me because I've never had a problem with the food it's usually very good but to accidentally consume MOLD leaving me nauseous and throwing up with food poisoning for hours I had to come here and leave a review.

Bill T.

Yelp
Well, they had waffle fries! That's three stars right there. Service was slow but they kept my seltzer filled. Burger was just okay.

Maria K.

Yelp
Awful service. The guy who served our table never checked us, never refilled our water, our dirty plates have been on the table for more than 22 min

Tara M.

Yelp
This is a totally respectable little diner (I think there are maybe a dozen booths/tables here) two blocks from the 4th Ave/9th Street train station. My hubby & I ate here just after midnight on Saturday because I was walking distance from the bars we'd been at (The Bell House & Halyards) and we needed to refuel before making the long journey back to Queens on mass transit :) We were seated and given menus and ice water immediately. The server was polite and helpful. I ordered a turkey burger with Swiss cheese, which came with a pickle and cole slaw, all of which was pretty good, though nothing to write home about. My husband had a chicken cordon bleu sandwich deluxe, which came with a pickle, cole slaw, lettuce, tomato, and fries. His sandwich was good and included the ingredients for cordon bleu, though it wasn't actually cordon bleu on a sandwich. Fries were warm, crispy, and decent. Prices are reasonable, tables are clean, bathroom is clean, service is good, and food is good enough. I'd come back for another late-night diner run.

Yelp
5th Ave Diner is the default restaurant to order from when the team is working late, which in the summer happens quite often in the EDU world. I've never been to the location so I won't make any claims on that front and this the below is based only on delivery via Seamless. It's not the greatest or most exciting place in the area in terms of food quality, taste or presentation. Once in a while they get things wrong. However more often than not it's exactly what we need. The food is good, the drivers are quick, corteous and always greet you with a smile. My biggest peeve with delivery is drivers who won't/can't figure out the Bell. We literally have a picture of a Bell in the intercom. HAS NEVER been a problem with 5th Ave. As long as you have the right expectations going in, you won't be disappointed.

Tony F.

Yelp
I have been to many diners in Brooklyn. I will say you will never be upset with the food.

Albert W.

Yelp
The only good thing about this place is that it's open late from what I recall stumbling in here for some grub one night. Decided I wanted some pancakes and my friend ordered a pastrami sammy. The pancakes was firm, not fluffy and the canadian bacon seemed very tough as if perhaps it was taken out of a freezer and then overcooked. The pastrami tasted funky. The service however was decent. $10 min for Credit Card and they serve beer. I also got a bit of a stomach ache 30 minutes after we left. =(

Makisha S.

Yelp
I order 2 orders of Turkey Burgers with fries the tomatoes and lettuce were old, the turkey meat taste funny and the bread was stale. The fries was also stale threw the whole thing in the garbage. As for my friend he also stated the meal was a waste of time. Waste of my money

Turandot Y.

Yelp
I come here a lot to do homework since it has a chill staff and clientele (mostly elderly people), but I gotta say the food is pretty bad and overpriced for the quality. The pasta bolognese ($20) is very soggy and bland with a cheap side salad. Omelets are ok, but the grits that come with them taste as if they came out of a box. Bottom line: I wouldn't come here just for food they serve, but I respect and admire the space.

Yasir A.

Yelp
Diners generally have a bad rep but this was quiet different. Came here with a couple friends for early breakfast and genuinely left happy. The staff was very accommodating and made sure we were comfortable. The food was fresh - probably because it was really early - and everything went better than planned. I had the scrambled eggs with spinach and it was decent.

Ryan D.

Yelp
As someone new to living in Brooklyn, I write this will full awareness of with any "new neighborhood bias" I might have, but out of all the diners in Park Slope which I've tried, the one which keeps bringing me back in the Fifth Avenue Diner. Whether it's my parents in town to visit or a mate from London dropping in to see the States for the first time, this is my go-to for a breakfast/brunch of pure, glorious, excessive Americana. From the second I walk in, the waitresses have a hint of that wonderful standoffishness that only abates when one comes in a few times and takes time to banter with them. The portions are huge, the coffee keeps coming, the prices are decent, the grits are the best in the area, and there's a bar which opens at 10:00 am next door if I want to transition into a full day of indulgence. The He-Man and LumberJack cover all of your bases for a proper breakfast, but I gravitate towards the omelettes. Adding bacon or sausage onto something won't kill your wallet. I also heard, from a woman raving next to me on a particularly cold day, that the soup is a life-saver. Take my bias with a grain of salt, but try this diner if you're looking for a brunch with your cronies or if you're looking to sit solo at the counter and act like a crusty local, scowling over your daily paper and coffee.

Steph V.

Yelp
I wish that I could give my experience 0 stars but I'll settle for 1. I ordered the New England clam chowder and Spinach pie,and boy, I was beyond disappointed!! I kinda want my money back. Spinach pie was salty even the flakes were dry. The soup was tasteless (the crackers had more flavor)with no clam but a bunch of potatoes, Green peppers and big ass chunks of celery and no type of flavor. I'm so pissed because I'm at work starving and I just wasted my money on this, smh. I wish diners would stop putting up selections of foods that they can't make.

Esther C.

Yelp
Not everything on the menu is great, but the Cheddar Jalapeño Burger is really good in that "Shitty Good" type of way. Breakfast foods are pretty solid as well. **SWEET POTATO FRIES ARE BANGIN' GOOD**

Shaneeka S.

Yelp
I love this place... the food is always soo good. I introduced this place to my boyfriend...and me go here from time to time after classes... We love their Greek Platter, and their Penne alla Vodka, it comes with soup or salad...the garlic bread is to die for. I usually have to try not to eat it all before the dish comes.

Shonda C.

Yelp
This place is gross but it also depends on your taste buds! Food was very basic and bland and not prepared well (I actually felt slightly nauseous when I left) and the staff has absolutely NO customer service skills. Keep looking if you want something decent but if you're starving and can stomach anything, then eat here.

Bratty B.

Yelp
I ordered the belgium waffle deluxe. The waffle was fine No complaints. The eggs and bacon I can't review because I didn't eat them. I wasn't a fan of the breakfast sausage that use but that's personal preference it was fully I wasn't a fan of the breakfast sausage that use but that's personal preference it was fully cooked. My boyfriend ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich and it looks horrible I didn't tell him anything because I wanted him to try it for himself. I was right it was horrible the cheese was melted to the bread and not on the meat it was burnt to boot. The meat was dry and flavorless and the onions werent good at all. The woman at the register was sweet. The waiter was pretentious and seemed like he forced himself to be nice. Wont come back.

Yelp
The bs: The other night I ate at Daisy's and as I walked past this place, Martin (the bartender from Excelsior) waved as he chow'd down after serving his regulars - oh wait, wasn't that one of his regulars sitting with him at the table? The slope being the small town that it is, I subsequently ran into him waiting for the bus outside of Daisy's. He mentioned that this was his preferred diner so I felt the need to follow up on his suggestion. The facts: I had the brisket on a Kaiser roll with fries ($5.75 + $2.50). Had the option of gravy so I ordered it on the side. Overall the brisket wasn't one of those butter-like servings that just falls apart on contact but hell I didn't pay enough to expect the Rabi to be blessing the kitchen so I won't complain. The fries had a nice golden patina like all good fries should. Fresh oil and the pale anemic color it leaves on fries makes me feel uneasy anyway. The coffee was typical diner quality. The meal deserves 3+ stars rounded to 4 because of the way reasonable price. Continuing my sugary ways I ordered the lemon meringue pie ($2.50) and was served a slice of a tall average meringue with a lemon filling more like a lemon pudding than your typical lemon filling. The crust was a yellow lemon flavored cake in the tradition of Junior's. Not the best I've had but it certainly helped raise my blood sugar level. Ok I just took another bite and it's tasting a little too artificial. Maybe this part gets 2 stars. The waitress I had did a great job of being attentive and also giving me my space. She seemed to be going out of her way to do a good job helping other customers as well. She gets a star for going outside to read the specials board to a caller! I'm curious about their pasta dishes. A couple of people who came in got take out pasticcio so I think I should give that a shot next time I'm here. They have a full bar so maybe I should have done like the old ladies in the back and gotten tanked on Bloody Mary's before dinner! I'm pretty sure they'd give this place a 4+ review.

Jesus B.

Yelp
I'm surprised by the reviews. Every time me and my fiancée want to grab breakfast, we always think about this place. Chilled and relax, that's what you need early in the morning.

Kassandra O.

Yelp
First Impressions: Its really clean. The place is spacious, well lit and welcoming. Usual platter: The gyro. The gyro platter is just the way I like it; LARGE. The platter is very well prepared and very tasty. It includes multiple pieces of gyro meet, a large cucumber and green pepper salad with Feta cheese along with a big portion of french fries and sauce. Its consistently good. Breakfast: Its good; standard. Burgers: Big and juicy. Wraps: On the smaller side. Overall review: Atmosphere: Comfortable and friendly. Food: Consistently good. Service: The servers really seem to care about keeping the customers happy. I have come in late at night and they are still friendly. Thumbs down: The rice is awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thumbs up: The food is consistently good. The portions are big! The prices are decent. There is almost always seating available. Its 24 hours. They deliver. Every time I come here the children are smiling; so kid love it. They don't complain about giving you extra of something and often don't charge for it. The Diner has a diverse group of regulars (not just trendy youngsters). They have booths! :) I really like going there. Its a very put together Diner.

Anita G.

Yelp
I'm pretty sure this is my favorite Brooklyn diner, especially since I've come here three times in one week--for the milkshake, the baklava (best homemade baklava I've ever had, no question) and their burger. And their soups. And did I mention the milkshakes? Pure extra thick chocolate-y perfection. This is a true, family-owned NYC diner!

Cindy B.

Yelp
Ordered a spaghetti with white clam sauce to go. It was poorly packed and all the very hot sauce fell all over me

Loriann O.

Yelp
Had breakfast for dinner. Good food, clean, fast service. Nothing outstanding but everything good.

Sierra T.

Yelp
Ordered through grubhub everything was delicious!! Especially the breakfast burger. My daughter ordered grits with cheese, Turkey bacon, Turkey sausage and a blueberry muffin. She said it was delicious as well!

E.M. W.

Yelp
Their Spinach Pie is the best. According to the owner, it is her mother's family recipe. Yum.

Steph A.

Yelp
Ah I remember eating this for breakfast lunch an dinner as a kid, my grandmother would order everyday like we lived off this diner. We where up on 8st an the park an yes they absolutely deliver. I would order the gyros the cheeseburgers there eggs with home frys an bacon. Sandwiches I mean everything is all very good. It's even better when your out late starving an all done partying an a bit drunk an you stop in on an odd hour of the night with a crew of friends an just absolutely PIG OUT which I've done plenty of times since there open 24 hours. I haven't been in a while to have a sit down lunch but I do every so often pop in for coffee an a corn muffin Togo an keep it moving since I moved to Staten Island an I'm not working up on 7th Ave anymore to order delivery. Definitely an affordable restaurant An great friendly owners. ")

Viv O.

Yelp
Good, clean diner. 3 stars because their waitresses were giving us a bit of attitude because we rolled in there looking debonaire. Lol. Jk. No, they really had a bit of an attitude.

Xenia M.

Yelp
After searching all hours of the early morning for a 24/7 diner, I stumbled upon this location. Came in around 4:00 am. There was a nice crowd and our waiter was very nice. This definitely satisfied my late night munchies!

Taylor D.

Yelp
My go-to spot for take out. Good menu, lots of variety. Quick order prep. No complaints here.

Lucy M.

Yelp
This one of my favorite comfort food places in Park Slope. I'm just used to coming here for brunch on a weekend when my SO and I can't agree or decide on another restaurant. We both enjoy the food, service and atmosphete of this diner. I only give it 4 stars because the food is just standard; obviously there's nothing mind blowing or a must-have on the menu. The quality of the meal is exactly what you would expect for the price, but the servings are huge! I never leave this diner without being completely satisfyingly full. The waiters are all very nice and attentive and of all of my visits, I've never been disappointed with the service. Finally, this is a great place to bring your friends, SO, parents, or children. Can't go wrong with a comfy place to eat and talk!

Kelsey B.

Yelp
ATMOSPHERE: It was refreshing to find a real cute little diner, no frills or anything, in the slope! Little booths, a kitchen counter, cake display, nothing fancy, just a typical diner that I would expect to see on Long Island AKA the motherland. FOOD: My SO absolutely loved his omelette with skillet potatoes and buttered toast. I got a salad and I wouldn't say it was the freshest I have had, but honestly, who really goes to a diner and orders a salad? That was my mistake. DRINKS: Had a mimosa, and for $2, it tasted like OJ, but fine, it was a bit bubbly. S.O had coffee and said it was "okay" OVERALL: Come here for the atmosphere to bring you back to your favorite diner you used to frequent as a kid, and get some late night breakfast!

Janice P.

Yelp
I've tried delivery from just about every diner in the area. When you request well done fries and instead get barely cooked soggy fries, that's it, not ordering from that place again. It's really not hard, nor a lot to ask. Tried this place, asked again for well done fries, and they got here fast and the fries were hot, crispy and well done. So well done to you 5th Ave Diner, my new go to.

Helen R.

Yelp
Typical diner breakfast fare. Poached eggs, grits, and toast. The service is good; servers are friendly. What you see is what you get.

Andrew T.

Yelp
One of the better diners that I have been to in the city, and a neighborhood diner for me. However, in all fairness, I do not visit diners that much, and I only order my favorite dish, Chicken Francaise, when I am here. So that makes the four stars for me, and that is also why I cannot really give five stars. However, the huge portions, and the garlic bread, makes it a delicious experience to me. The staff has been treating me fair. The location is great. Otherwise, nothing fancy with the interior design, standard.

Jon And Eileen S.

Yelp
This is where my fiance and I go to eat in the neighborhood when we're out on a weekend and looking for some good food, quick, and friendly service. I have been coming here for some time and the owner is very nice and always willing to have a chat. Plenty of room and what you'd expect from a diner on the menu. Reasonably priced considering I've seen this neighborhood close so many good businesses since 1999. I would recommend to anyone, including the very hung over, to come here and eat.

Jonathan E.

Yelp
If you're content with totally blah food and indifferent, uncharming service, then this place rocks. I like how they never check in with you, pester with the whole refill routine, or say thanks or goodbye. It's also nice if you like your premium-priced Canadian bacon to come in the form of small, round, paper-thin disks. Hmmm, bacon wafers.
