The Best New Cocktail Bars in the San Francisco Bay Area | Eater SF

"Neighborhood staple Sunset Reservoir has been reborn into bar and restaurant Fifty Vara as of late March, serving their own brews, shaking up cocktails, and dishing out bistro burgers and shareable appetizers. Take in a house-made black lager, or try one of the cocktails, such as the Manhattanesque which pairs amaro and vermouth with rye whiskey and a dash of chocolate bitters. California wines also figure into the drinks menu, if you prefer to unwind with a glass or bottle." - Dianne de Guzman

The Best New Restaurants in San Francisco, July 2025 | Eater SF

"The former Sunset Reservoir building is now revived as Fifty Vara, which is part brewery, part restaurant. Diners can order one of the beers made onsite, such as the house lager, but the bar is also ready with higher-proof cocktails and no-proof drinks if that’s what you’re after. Food-wise, the menu has a sizable amount of small bites perfect for groups gathering for a meal, such as crab fritters and crudo, but heftier items include a pork chop and a burger that is decidedly tavern-style, and not of the smashed style." - Paolo Bicchieri

Fifty Vara - Review - Sunset - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The former Sunset Reservoir Brewing is now Fifty Vara, a multi-level brewery and restaurant. To go with house beers or cocktails, they have flatbreads, a burger, and small plates like seasonal toasts and calamari. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Julia Chen

Thick, Anti-Smash Burger Burgers and Lagers Arrive in the Sunset With the Opening of San Francisco’s Fifty Vara | Eater SF

"Opening Monday, March 31 in the former Sunset Reservoir location on Noriega Street, this expansive west-side San Francisco restaurant was first reported by Tablehopper in late 2024 and is already drawing locals. The space offers big, anti-smash burgers off the grill with a potato’s worth of fries, alongside Czech Republic-inspired beers; one beer even uses a special tap called Lukrs to slow the pour and preserve the delicious carbonation. Owner Brian Reccow, who has lived in the Sunset since 1997 and helped reignite Magnolia Brewing, calls the lush array of plants the "tree of life" and says he felt personally responsible to keep the location alive: "We’re bullish on San Francisco," and "This is my community. It’s super important there’s an evolution in this property that’s been here since the ’40s." The menu, from chef Adriana Fleming (formerly of the now-closed vegan restaurant Baia) with Trish Tracey of Myriad Hospitality also contributing, leans Spanish and old-school San Francisco: boquerones and orange-and-rosemary olives, pan-roasted sea bass with snap peas, Dungeness crab and herbed rice fritters, and bistro-style burgers with pickled red onions. On the beer side, Reccow is explicit about making house beer (styled as KINDS) accessible — the house lager is priced at $6 — supported by a whole new tap system including a special head for the Lukr; Jonathan Taylor is the on-site brewer (a former colleague of Reccow from New Belgium Brewing). West Coast bar pro Erin Rea created cocktails including the Sunset Delight (white rum, pineapple, mango, and lime) and the nonalcoholic Pacific Crest (hemp, ginger, and soda). Architect Jim Maxwell of Architects II handled the build, Cindy Bonilla of Sunset Roots supplied the foliage, Alexis Laurent provided driftwood light fixtures, and a Bose sound bath system fills the room. The large footprint contains four big spaces (two mezzanines, the ground floor, and a proper bar) with a to-go counter at the front; lunch and brunch hours will be added later. Reccow says he hopes Sunset residents will celebrate the good times and pour one out for the bad times there, and that "I also listened to the neighborhood and to the people," adding: "My goal here is to provide an environment that is nurturing and comfortable. It is big and powerful, but it’s protective." Opening hours at launch are Monday–Thursday 5 to 9 p.m. and Friday–Saturday 5 to 10 p.m." - Paolo Bicchieri

What a great place! Everything was delicious. The calamari batter was crispy, flaky and not oily. The mushroom flatbread was excellent with a great crust. The chicken sandwich batter was also really good. We also had the burger, garlic fries and desserts. Everything was delicious. Staff was friendly. Will definitely be back!

Google
First, the ambience is very nice with huge windows offering natural light. Live plants give an earthy feel throughout. I went to lunch there on a Wednesday, so I was seated at a booth with no wait. All the wait staff was very cordial and friendly. I had the burger and I thought it was great. The beef tasted fresh and the fries were hot and crispy, seasoned well. The bright eyes drink was delicious and refreshing. The only opportunity I saw was the dessert, the Tres Leches Financier, could have been a bit more moist. BOTTOM LINE: Solid burger and fries, nice atmosphere, would come back!

Lilian

Google
I think the almost all eaten fries tells you I was too focused on eating and too hungry to remember about taking a picture. lol Yes, garlic fries were good. The mushroom flatbread was super. The flatbread itself was excellent. I could eat that with a dip even without the mushroom. I think a little something like crushed pepper flakes or fresh crumbled goat cheese sprinkled on top could make it more vibrant tasting. I’m no chef so it’s just my personal opinion. Fantastic service! I sat outdoor which felt a bit chilly. My server said they will be installing outdoor heat lamps soon.

Google
This place is awesome. Staff is super friendly and attentive, the space is so comfortable. Craft beer that compliments the fantastic menu. I had the seared shrimp pasta in the lightest most flavorful sauce. My wife had the burger and couldn't help herself, so good it was gone!

Google
Cool spot with good vibes, great food/cocktails and awesome service. I think the portions could be a little heftier, but the quality of the food and flavors make up for that. It was a pretty dead Friday as it was July 4th weekend, but I can see this place being really busy on a non-holiday weekend. Plenty of parking. Bar area has TVs so we were able to watch our Giants game from our booth. Would go back again!

We live nearby and have been going to Fifty Vara since it opened this winter, and it just keeps getting better. We are so excited (and relieved) to have a fun new go to around the corner. We even hosted my mom’s 25-person birthday upstairs and it couldn’t have been easier to plan. Everyone loved the food and the space, and it was a great value. Lately I’ve been loving the steak, the radiatore with shrimp, the garlic shrimp, and all the salads. Service is always friendly, cocktails are fun, and the menu changes enough to keep things interesting. We usually come with our two-year-old, and the space is big and lively with super high ceilings.

Google
We happened to swing by on the soft open, and were very pleased. We enjoyed the creative cocktails, and snacked on the Persian Cucumbers that had a nice Japanese flavoring and a little spice. The flatbread with sausage and asparagus was very flavorful. Service was attentive and both food and drinks came very fast. Even though they just opened, it was a very smooth experience. The atmosphere is both cozy and a bit more upscale than it used to feel in this space. We'll definitely be back!

Google
A upscale casual dining experience. Very modern interior. Service staff friendly and efficient. Food came out in good time. Excellent presentation and quality. Good place for date night, celebrations and everything in between. Comfortable neighborhood spot.

Yelp
Great service. Wider than your sunset restaurant because it's actually two properties side by side. Had their grilled pork chop which was my favorite of the night! Pizzas were pretty good. Appetizers tasty. Sat on the second floor so my toddler can look down below!
google avatar

Yelp
Good service, good food! Came with my family on a Sunday afternoon for brunch and was seated right away. They were quick to accommodate little toddler and was so friendly. Loved the food and drinks, will be back to try more!

Yelp
I was so pleasantly surprised to find a super vibey brewery and Italian Restaurant in my old stomping grounds of the Outer Sunset! My friend and I ordered a couple cocktails, which were tasty yet strong enough to get a good buzz going. (I ordered the mango-pineapple cocktail and it felt like an instant vacation.) I also ordered the pasta which had the perfect chew to it and had great flavor. What I enjoyed most was the beautiful space with high ceilings, lots of greenery, and great touches all around. Because my friend and I came here to catch up and mainly socialize, this spot checked all the right boxes. Servers were also very friendly and speedy, so overall we had a great time here!

Yelp
Came on an early Tuesday night and there were plenty of seats. Menu calls for lots to drink and California fare. I had a Vara lager, order of fries, meatballs and my friend had a Vara burger. Took awhile to take our order but the food came out fairly quickly. The lager is smooth, slightly bitter with a hint of honey. Food, overall was good but nothing to wow about tbh. Very comfy seats & booths & bar area in a large high ceiling space, rare in this neighborhood.

Yelp
This restaurant opened (semi)recently in my neighborhood and it's quite different from the surrounding restaurants, so of course we had to try it! We had been to the brewery that previously occupied the space, so the layout was very similar but they did make some upgrades. The menu was pretty small so there wasn't as huge variety to choose from - we decided to try the pasta and the burger. When the pasta came out, our immediate thought was "this is it?" For $26, the portion size of the pasta was very small, but it tasted fine. The burger was a bit lacking in seasoning - also very expensive for what it was. Overall, I'm really glad we got to try it, being neighbors and all, but I don't think I'd come back for the food. The martini was good so I may come back for the bar though.

Yelp
A friend and I were looking for a place to grab a drink and to catch-up on what had been a challenging week when we ended up at Fifty Vara. The plan to get a quick drink quickly turned into full blown meal that could have easily fed four! Since it was around 7:30 on a weeknight, the place was fairly empty. I didn't realize the restaurant is so spacious. The space looks like a perfect spot to host a private event. Our server was attentive and checked on us regularly throughout our meal. He was kind enough to let us know when the kitchen was closing and asked if we wanted to order anything else. The restaurant closed at 9 p.m. but even after that, he came and asked if we wanted another drink from the bar. The overall experience was a great one. The food was average. We had crispy calamari - 5/10 - the batter fell off the meat and was a bit heavy herb and garlic fries - 8/10 buffalo wings - 6/10 - the buffalo sauce wasn't tossed with the wings blistered tomato flat bread - 6/10 little gem caesar salad - 6/10 The warm and friendly service, ambiance and drinks were all above average and definitely worth a return visit.

Yelp
We came here for happy hour on a Monday. They only do it at the bar, but they had a really great selection! The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was really nice. They serve these mini espresso martinis that were soo fire, if it weren't happy hour I would've just bought the regular ones. I'm very interested to experience their brunch! Calamari was also a hitter! We also ordered the almond dessert because it sounded so good and we were not disappointed. Would love to go back to try brunch or dinner there. One of the servers told us they brew their own beers since they took over a brewery that used to be here.

Yelp
Fifty Vara offers delicious food and drinks in a pleasant ambiance. The restaurant is very open and surrounded by drop lights, wooden beams, and plants. We started off with fried calamari and olives, both of which were standard but good. The heirloom tomato salad with burrata, cucumber, hazelnut, sesame, and vinaigrette was very refreshing and tasty. The chicken burger was ok. Chicken was a bit dry but I enjoyed the light and crunchy batter. The bun was nice and soft/fluffy but I wished there were more greens or pickles to add moisture to the dry chicken. Service was good, and the restaurant provides great spacious atmosphere. Parking can be a little challenging.

Yelp
This is a wonderful venue right in the heart of the Sunset. There is plenty of space, there is a fully stocked bar, and it is a classy joint. It is also family friendly and plenty of space for a larger group or party including the indoor balcony. The food also was yummy. The gourmet burger was pleasantly filling and large enough. The pasta was also good. The waiter was also attentive and friendly. Overall, the experience was good for a date night.

Yelp
Fifty Vara? The name itself peaked our curiosity. I made a reservation on Opentable for 12 noon today. When we arrived there were two single diners. We selected a booth alongside the wall. The footprint resembled the former occupant, Sunset Brewery. High ceilings with many hanging potted plants. The microbrewery is in the back. Pros: * draft beer can be ordered in sizes - 1/2 pint, pint, or pitcher * the fried chicken sandwich was humongous. Served on a toasted brioche bun. Combo sweet & a little fire. * the cheeseburger cooked to order. Served on toasted brioche bun. * choice of salad or fries. The fries were very hot. The salad very fresh. * great friendly efficient service. * great addition to the neighborhood Cons- * after placing our order it took awhile. Maybe because our burger and fried chicken sandwiches cooked to order. Trivia - the restaurant name "Vara" comes from the Spanish unit of measurement used in Spanish colonization of California. HH offered M-F 3:30p-5:30p. Menus for lunch and dinner. We plan to come back for dinner next time.

Yelp
This place has so much potential, but it unfortunately missed the mark a bit. The ambiance is great, and there aren't many spots like it nearby. However, the prices are a bit too high for the amount of food you get. The flavors are solid, it's really the portion sizes that fall short for the price. Service wasn't bad, but it could have been better; at this price point, you expect top-tier attention. The calamari was also slightly underdone and not as crispy as it should be. The wings were spicier than expected, but still enjoyable.

Yelp
came by for happy hour, which is only at the bar seating area, on a friday afternoon. it wasnt crowded and we were offered any seats in the bar which also had a few table tops. the service was great, very kind and attentive. we ordered calamari and to drink a margarita, sangria, and a shot (petite poppy). the calamari came out pretty quickly but unfortunately it wasn't very crispy and the batter was falling off the meat, which made it hard to eat. the bigger pieces were also very chewy and not as appetizing. the drinks were delicious and for $9, its a pretty sweet deal! the overall ambiance was moody and aesthetic with lots of plants! would come back again to give the other food options a chance.

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood! I've eaten here for brunch and a couple times for dinner. The space itself is beautiful, high ceilings and plants giving a spacious and bright. This place was a former brewery so Fifty Vara offers 6 house made beers. Menu offering California cuisine with salads that are fresh and delicious. Corn Fritters, baked goat cheese and riblets was enjoyed by the group. The Rosemary Potato Flat bread surprisingly good. The Vara burger and flat iron steak were great! Enjoyed the experience at Fifty Vara. It's casual and trendy and such a welcome addition to the Sunset District! 5 stars!

Arjoyita R.

Yelp
Fifty vara is one of the new restaurants in the city and in our list for some time. Fifty Vara is one of those standard template restaurants with the same open seating vibe, dark green paint and a light, airy environment welcoming of people on a Friday night or a random day of the week. They have a good selection of beers, thanks to their microbrewery inherited from the Sunset reservoir brewery. Overall a pleasant experience and chill place to come for drinks or food.
google avatar

Katelin N.

Yelp
This was our second time here: Pros: Bloody Mary is amazing and so are the other cocktails. The spicy cucumbers are really good. The pork hash is very tasty and the corn fritters are to die for! Crispy potatoes are indeed amazingly crispy. Cons: eggs over medium were cooked HARD. The side of bacon we ordered was ice cold like it had been pulled out of the bin of pre-cooked bacon used for sandwiches or something. The service is very nice and we will continue visiting!
google avatar

Victoria W.

Yelp
We tried 50 Vara for the first time on a Friday night and enjoyed our experience overall. The service was really great from both the hostess and our server, and the ambiance of the restaurant was chill and neighborhoody with great decor. We ordered the corn fritters, a pork fennel flat bread and a medium rare steak (they were able to easily sub fries for the crispy red potatoes that normally come with the steak). We enjoyed the corn fritters and the flatbread and would order both again, but wouldn't have the steak again as it was more medium to medium well in some spots than overall medium rare. We enjoyed our drinks as well - a refreshing grapefruit vodka cocktail, a Pinot noir for the meat and two half pints of the beer they brew on site. This is a really nice addition to the neighborhood and we'll definitely be back. We may have gotten lucky on parking but we had no issues parking on Noriega just a couple doors down from the restaurant.

Yelp
It's exciting to see new restaurants open up in SF again and my friend and I ventured out to the Sunset to try Fifty Vara. We shared the grilled asparagus, Kampachi crudo, savoy spinach salad, seared local black cod, grilled pork chop and spiced chocolate cake. The grilled asparagus was excellent - the toasted breadcrumbs and romesco were very tasty on top of really fresh asparagus. The kampanchi was really fresh but this isn't really what I was expecting for a "crudo". The savoy spinach salad was meh - I expected more from the dressing. The local black cod was the highlight of the meal - I absolutely loved that it came with so much greens - snap peas, favas and pea tendrils. The pork chop was cooked well but it was oddly sweet and I was missing a little bit of char. The spiced chocolate cake was good - it reminded me of a lava cake but with interesting spices and texture. On food, this was good but not great. Service was too attentive. I really don't need the server to always be in my face. The pacing of the meal was off too - they brought out all of the dishes in very rapid succession and it's hard to have that many dishes on a small table for two. The space is gorgeous with multi-level seating. They brew their own beers and you can see the brewing equipment on the side. With tax and tip, this was about $85 per person - very reasonable for the meal. Overall, this was not the best experience. Fifty Vara is probably a good neighborhood spot but I don't know that it's worth making the trip out to the Sunset for it.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! The staff are all so warm and welcoming- professional and kind! Food and cocktails were delish and had one of the best lattes I've ever had! Highly recommend!

Yelp
New restaurant in the old Sunset Brewing Company space on Noriega. Kind of same vibe and food genre, but definitely better in all categories. They got rid of the big barrels and expanded the second floor seating with some fresh and planty decor. They kept the bar area but gave it a nice face lift; still has the big TVs playing whatever sports game. Menu got a great makeover with familiar food but a nice slightly upscale twist. Service and flatware is a little bit more professional. All in all, just a better experience but retains a bit of the warm neighborhood feel. Drinks are yummy, definitely recommend one of the cocktails. For food, the menu isn't large but there's something for everyone. I got the fish entree, which had amazing flavor but was slightly overcooked. Pasta was great, as was the salad. Spiced chocolate cake dessert is pretty good too. Nice place for happy hour, casual Friday date night, or catch up with friends.

Yelp
Great Brunch, Stylish Space,Coming Back for Lunch We came hoping for the lunch menu but didn't realize it only starts at 2:30 PM, so we ended up trying the brunch menu and it didn't disappoint. The baked goat cheese with tomato sauce was great , beet salad was excellent bright, fresh, and well-balanced. The pork hash was flavorful and filling. The Crudo was fresh and well-seasoned. The crispy squid (calamari) was just okay, but the burger was juicy and satisfying. "The Sando" was also a hit at the table. We also tried their draft beer tasting set, which was a nice touch good variety and well-curated. The space is modern rustic with high ceilings and a warm, open feel. Service was attentive and friendly. Looking forward to coming back to try the lunch menu next time

Yelp
Went back for dinner and food was SO much better! My favorites were the corn appetizer and porkchop.

Yelp
First time since they changed ownership and menu with a different vibe from the previous ownership. Like its predecessor, mid week lunch crowd is minimal and understand weekend Brunch is similar. Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon with a friend and had a N/A Mexican IPA from Athletic and we shared the calamari. Calamari came out lukewarm warm and not what I'm used to at other places where it is hot. The dipping cocktail sauce was interesting as they add horseradish to it but for me, the taste profile was off and would have preferred the tarter and traditional cocktail sauces. Bartender service was fine glad the place was empty with the two of us being the only ones seated at the Bar. Will give this place another chance and try the chicken sandwich or their burger on my next visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in for a quick dinner and ended up really enjoying the food and atmosphere. We started with the pork riblets, which were tender and coated in a sticky, sweet glaze that had a nice depth of flavor. The corn fritters were golden and crisp on the outside, soft and slightly sweet inside. The crema served alongside had a creamy, tangy kick that balanced the fritters really well. For mains, the grilled pork chop was thick and juicy, with a beautifully seared crust. It was well-seasoned and paired with a salsa verde that added freshness and helped cut through the fattiness of the pork. We also ordered the fried chicken sandwich, which had a great crunch and was seasoned just right. The hot honey brought a warm, spicy sweetness that worked perfectly with the savory chicken, while the creamy slaw added texture and a bit of tang that tied everything together. The space had a warm, relaxed vibe and the service was friendly.

Yelp
Hamburger made me sick. It was takeout and it tasted funny but I was hungry and ate it. Diarrhea all night.

Yelp
We tried this place for Brunch on a lazy Spring Saturday. Fifty Vara retains the old Brew Pub concept from the old Sunset Reservoir Brewery. We tried the Burger, the Pork Hash, Flatbreads, the Donuts and the Beer. The cuisine is California American. The food was Ok but like most new restaurants, it is a work in progress. I would give it in 3.5 stars if that was an option. The Lager was excellent and they do offer half pints. Look forward to revisiting it in a few weeks to see how it progresses.

Yelp
The people are nice and it's vip style these days and I do come here a lot in the late evening and always the last one to leave and the family is owned so they don't mind me and my families staying late at all.. I drive different cars to these places and I always give them a happy tips..

Yelp
Great new local spot with American food done really well and House-Brewed Craft Beer If you're looking for a truly satisfying dining experience that captures the essence of a great local spot, this place should be at the top of your list. I dined alone so only got to try one entre but came back for brunch the next day. What stood out immediately was the quality of the food. I ordered the pork chop, and I can honestly say it was one of the freshest and most flavorful I've had in quite some time. Perfectly cooked and juicy with a fresher twist compared to the barbequed ones I am used to in TX. Equally impressive was the drink selection. Their in-house brewed craft beer lineup is something special--clearly made by people who know and love the art of brewing. I tried the black and hazy in a half pour which is a great option for exploring. The rest of the drink menu is just as strong, offering a variety of well-crafted cocktails. The espresso martini with a mint twist was great. All in all, this is exactly the kind of place every neighborhood hopes to have--delicious food, outstanding drinks, and a welcoming environment. Highly recommend supporting this local treasure. Parking is free and abundant.

Yelp
Beautiful renovation! The plants everywhere are beautiful and the new owner put a lot of thought into ventilation and practicality during the renovation. The menu is precise and beautifully prepared. Flavors are on point, simple but loud. Service is amazing and they servers are well trained on the menu and building history. I can't wait to come back. Hopefully this business thrives as it's a true gem!

Yelp
Excited to try the new spot in the beautiful space previously occupied by Sunset Reservoir Brew Co. Food was very good. We ordered the crab fritters, halibut, flatbread, burger. Fruit and pecan crisp for dessert. I also got the sangria cocktail. What stood out the most for me was the variety of greens accompanying the halibut dish - sugar peas, fava beans, asparagus, snow pea shoots, and topped with fresh dill. Such great flavors. Service was impeccable. The staff checked on us frequently. Very kid friendly and accommodating (we asked if they had milk because the flatbread was unexpectedly spicy for our kids, and they promptly brought us a cup of milk). The space was already beautiful to start with but they did a tasteful renovation before opening, and now also have gorgeous plants everywhere in the restaurant. My kids thought they were fake but they're indeed real. Next time I would make a reservation, especially Fri-Sun. We went on a Wednesday night 6pm and it was pretty packed. Luckily we got a bar table in the front. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Love the menu, atmosphere and the people. You can always count on consistency with the wonderful service, great food and delicious cocktails! I LOVE their margarita! I've sampled most of the menu and it never disappoints. They have the most beautiful plants all around (but out of the way) the restaurant, big TVs and again the staff are great! Go there! Get the fries and lemon aïoli. The aioli really goes with everything. My suggestion is to start with their margarita, one of the flatbreads and fries! Food pics to follow because this is our local spot!

Yelp
Loved how they kept a lot of the vibes of the old place but feels like they added light and greenery. Good it very good and service was wonderful at the bar.

Yelp
I was sad to see Sunset Reservoir Brewery close. They had the absolute best burgers. But, I was so thrilled to see a new restaurant open in this spot! Went with some girlfriends and was immediately struck by how well they transformed the place. The plants and upholstered booths made the space warm, bright and inviting. The previous iteration only had wooden booths with no give and you would have a sore tush after your meal. But the booths are now nice and comfy. We ordered a selection of cocktails (although I didn't drink that night). The first thing that struck me was the reasonable price for the cocktails. My friends all enjoyed their drinks- espresso martini and moonrise mule- and said they were well executed and tasty. We ordered the calamari and cucumbers to start. Both were good. Cucumbers were fresh and had the perfect spice to them. For the entrees, we had the green beans, pasta, pork chop, halibut, and chicken breast. They were all good but my favorite was the halibut and pork chop. Both were so tender, flavorful and cooked to perfection. I'm always worried about pork being dry and this was so moist. Service was good even though the dishes took a little longer to come out. It was fairly crowded. We didn't mind since it gave us time to chat more. All in all, I love what they've done and excited that I have another place in the hood (honestly it feels like I stepped into another city) with an elevated but comfortable/casual dining experience. Yay!

Yelp
So good! The calamari was so tender. The fried chicken sandwich had a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The flat iron steak and potatoes was perfect except that I'd love twice as much of the delicious herb butter they put on top. Heavenly! I'll be back (terminator voice).

Yelp
Tried to check this place out after opening up and replacing the sunset brewery. Was always disappointed with the latters service, food and beer. The first time here the wait was over an hour and I didn't wait. No fault of Fifty Vara for being busy. So finally after being smart and making a reservation for dinner. The wait staff were wonderful, the food was really lovely and the drinks great

Yelp
We checked out our newest neighborhood addition and we love it. We must have been lucky because there was live music there tonight and it made the entire place so lively. We met up with friends for drinks and snacks. Love how the space has been updated. The appetizers were yummy - shout out for those Persian cucumbers - and the cocktails were solid. We hear there will be more live music in the future. A definite plus. Tonight's trio - Fake Melody - was terrific.

Yelp
Vara Burger is absolutely mind-blowing! Finally, something fresh and exciting among all the usual fast-food spots. The dishes burst with a firework of flavors, and the presentation is excellent. I'm not easily impressed by beer -- but they managed to surprise me! A special shout-out to the staff, especially our server Mari. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming. And the interior? A solid 5 out of 5. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Had a great experience here! Went on a Wednesday night, so maybe not as busy as the weekends, but the service was exceptional and the food was delicious. Had an amazing time here while I caught up with some friends in the pleasant ambiance of the restaurant. We asked for recommended portions to share between 3 people - we ordered the flatbread that had sausage which was tasty and had about 3-4 pcs per person, the tar tar, the burrata salad (which while delicious, could have had more substance), and the steak main (perfectly cooked to medium rare with a side of well seasoned and crispy potatoes). If you have more of an appetite I would probably say you should order another small plate or main to share. But it was the perfect amount for us. Highly recommended and would go again.

Yelp
We had a great experience at Fifty Vara last night. The vibes are really cozy and the staff was welcoming and attentive. The food and drink quality also impressed us.

Yelp
I would have given this place a 5 star had it not been the loud thumping base clubbing music. It actually takes away from the dining experience. Is it a sports bar, a club or a restaurant? I have been there three times so far, and tried many different dishes. All super yummy esp of you like crunch. The riblet is out of this world- moist juicy pork ribs seared to a nice crunch. Tomato flat bread refreshing and the trout dish, every bit was memorable. Love the lofty space and the greenery in it- feels like I'm in Nature with the best food. This would have been a 10/10 had it not been the choice of music. No music would be perfect too. We were so enthralled with the food by the time we remember to take a photo, it was like this

Yelp
a star for service, one for making okay food and a star for a nice atmosphere. We arrived on a Sunday for our 1pm brunch reservation. I had called and asked if we could be seated on the upper level, but when we arrived were told it was closed so we were seated in a tight booth for the four of us. We ordered drinks. I had a chardonnay that was nice while my friend ordered an iced matcha that was packed with ice such that it was really a 4oz, weak matcha drink. fried chicken sandwiches, burger and shredded pork with eggs were the choices. I ordered the burger, but when it arrived I asked if i could have , tomato and some mustard, but was told we are out of tomatoes and mustard. the burger was also cold so they kindly offered me a fried chicken sandwich. it was bland and had a tiny spot of the sauce they described on the menu and a piece of wilted lettuce. the egg dish looked delicious. I'll pass on returning because it just wasn't worth it with all the choices the city has to offer. Id say if you're down for small bites and cocktails you might have a better experience at happy hour.

Yelp
Been here twice now and so far the experience has been mixed. The service is very friendly but the food was sloowww. Took about 30 minutes for the corn fritters app to arrive. The food was mixed as well. Breakdown of what we've had: Cod: Light but flavorful - full of beautiful peas and greens. Porkchop: It was okay..could have been paired with different sides than carrots and beets Burger - both times were just mediocre - the fries were almost cold Flat bread - Really good. Get that as a main or app to share with the table Chicken - Really salty - like they brined it for too long? I'll keep coming back since it is in the neighborhood, and will update the reviews.

Yelp
This is our third time here. We really wanted to like this place and gave this place a few chances to wow us. Ambiance is really nice, but the food, portions, and flavor is lacking. We were a party of 7 and one of our steaks were beyond well done when we asked for medium rare. The cod portion was so small, it wasn't even a fillet. It was so thin and flat. Flavor was also lacking. Burger patty was also too well done. Burger is lacking substance. Service is non existent tonight. Waiter was nowhere to be found. Took forever to order food. We had to ask different people on the floor to remind them of our drinks. Never had any water refill. Won't be coming back. Prices are higher end for small portions and poor service.

Yelp
I've been a few times now and I absolutely love the atmosphere at this San Francisco Sunset neighborhood restaurant. Service was professional and fast and the food was delicious. While it's not a large menu, I was able to find things to satisfy my vegetarian diet.

Yelp
3 different visits. Nice service. Cocktails were fine. Food would be good if it weren't so Salty every visit. Corn appetizer was good. Heirloom tomato salad was super salty. We asked for them to make it without the dressing cause it was too salty. Somehow without the dressing it still came out salty. My kid who is 10 complained that her kids pasta was too salty. Our pasta entree was super salty. Not sure the chef tastes the food as they cook it. We want to come back cause it's in the neighborhood but the food is way too salty.

Yelp
Got a group of friends together here for dinner. We did "family style" sharing of a multitude of small plates, appetizers, main courses and desserts. Everything was fresh and tasty and their beers were great for washing it all down. Fun vibes and attentive service! Definitely fantastic to have in the neighborhood!
