"Legendary Jewish delicatessen Fine & Schapiro appears to have shuttered after more than 93 years on the Upper West Side. The famed Kosher deli had previously closed with a sign on its door that read, “Closed for renovations until further notice: sorry for the inconvenience,” local publication the West Side Rag reports. At that time the closure was believed to be temporary. However, a Facebook post from local blog Manhattan Sideways alleges that the landlords have denied the owners a lease renewal. Eater has reached out to the owners for further information. Fine & Schapiro has long been home to one of Eater critic Robert Sietsema’s favorite pastrami on rye sandwiches, even if the knishes were at times just “decent” and the chopped liver tended a “bit too sweet.” The roast chicken, which was served with free sides of pickles and slaw, was also one of the standouts at this Upper West Side’s institution. Except for a brief closure in May 2018 by the Board of Health, Fine & Schapiro has remained open at the same Upper West Side location since 1927." - Luke Fortney

Not many kosher delis left. So glad i found this one here near central park. Had a huge and delicious combo: corned beef, pastrami and hard salami. They will provide an extra slice of bread to make another sandwich out of the king size one to eat later of share. Old and new complementary pickles were excellent. Don’t expect some place fancy— classic deli counter with seating in the back.

Great meats, even for gentiles. It may not look like much from outside, but inside you'll find friendly servers and good portions of food. A bunch of bread and pickles just to start with, and good sized entrees and sides. The pastrami was delicious and pulled high, and the turkey meatloaf was tasty.

Totally old school delicious. Pastrami melts in your mouth. Cabbage roll full of meat and sauced just right. Sides of potato salad and slaw classically simple and delicious as well.

Moving South 48 years ago, I miss a good deli. I found it at Fine and Shapiro. Good corned beef, pastrami, and chopped liver.

Had the Special; Soup & Half a sandwich. Split Pea Soup was delicious by itself but the Garlic Croutons make it extra delicious. The Pastrami Sandwich is so flavorful add to that the spicy mustard and slaw, I could have eaten another half easy. Yes put the mustard and the slaw in the sandwich, So good!

Came here for dinner and it was delicious. Ordered the hot pastrami sandwich board, pastrami sandwich with side of pickles (half and full) and coleslaw.
