Chef Zach Engel Brings Seasonal Southern and Middle Eastern Menu to West Loop | Eater Chicago

"Giving off a nostalgic West Loop vibe that feels older than the arrival of Starbucks, McDonald’s, and the boozy Taco Bell, the recently reopened cocktail bar pairs that mood with summery, inventive drinks from beverage director Donovan Mitchem, including a New Orleans–inspired frozen Hurricane (Mount Gay Black Barrel, cinnamon-infused Brugal Extra Dry, passion fruit, lime), a Sarsaparilla Sazerac (bourbon, sarsaparilla, Peychaud’s, absinthe), and St. Lou’s popular frosé." - Naomi Waxman

I probably drank 20 beers here NYE watching football. They were all cold and fresh. People were chill. Ran into '88 Notre Dame QB here randomly. Best place to watch sports in the Quarter.

Jessica C.

Google
Staff is phenomenal. The burger is GIANT cooked fresh to order along with the fries. Lots of beer options. Not good wine options.

My brother and uncle stopped by Finnegans Wednesday night. They enjoyed the atmosphere and staff so much they ended up taking me there the next evening. Mandy was our bartender and probably the best bartender out of all the bars we went to. (We stopped at quite a few). Worth a visit, tip well, the staff deserve it, you'll find that out for yourself. Another huge shout out to Mandy and the rest of the staff.

I recently visited Finnegan's easy in New Orleans and had a great experience while I didn't try the food I have to say it smelled absolutely amazing definitely something I'd come back for next time I sucked a cocktails during my visit and they were fantastic the service was excellent the staff was attentive and friendly making the whole experience enjoyable the atmosphere was vibrant yet relaxed perfect for unwinding and soaking in the local Vibe highly recommended for drinks and a great time

Google
Great little gem in the heart of the quarter. This was a regular stop during our 3 days in Nola. Great drink selection, food was pub grub but there were some Irish treats on the menu. They also pour a legit Guinness! We had Colin take care of us on Saturday and Bailey on Sunday. Both were knowledgeable of other spots in the quarter and activities. Both made our visit even better.

We spent a couple hours here eating, drinking, and playing cards, and just had a grand ol' time. The service was great -- everyone was so nice -- and the drinks were perfect, only $4-5 for a Long Island Iced Tea, too. The patio was SO nice and just a great vibe.

Google
Awesome service, great food. So glad we went here.

I was in today, 11/2, the owner's supposed friend was controlling the music and he kept turning the music up and when I said something and covered my ear that was hurting, he pointed at me and laughed and said she needs to leave. It probably doesn't matter that i'm a regular, but i'm a local. I respect the bartenders who also complained that they couldn't hear, but the disrespect was real. Also he made 1 of their own bartenders leave before their shift ended tonight.

Yelp
Staff is phenomenal. The burger is GIANT cooked fresh to order along with the fries. Lots of beer options. Not good wine. Food prices are great.

Yelp
Best burger in the quarter hands down. Chill vibes. Good service. Clean bathroom. Lovely courtyard.

Yelp
It was raining hard and we had to find somewhere close to eat. Burgers cooked to order- yes! But alas - no. My husband ordered the Sweet Corn Bites and some fries and he liked them. I ordered a burger medium rare and it was a little more done than medium. If it would have been cooked to medium rare it would have been very good. The onion rings were not good. They had the doors open so it was cold inside. But the worst part is they allow smoking because of the gambling machines. So the wind from the door kept blowing smoke in my face. We didn't know this until right before the food came. The bartenders were great.

Yelp
Definitely has a neighborhood bar vibe, tucked away in the French Quarter. You know it has a good burger when the local service industry folks go there, after a shift to grab a burger. Service was super friendly, there were 5 of us stopping for a quick lunch. Seating at the bar and ordering at the bar, pretty easy rules to follow. Burgers were good and a great price for coming with fries. 2 of us ordered peanut butter, with a $1 up charge so it would have been nice to have a good smear of peanut butter verses a light coating on the bun. This is an annual trip for us, so next year we will definitely stop back again.

Yelp
Don't walk here, run. This place was simple and straightforward. Great vibe, great food, and amazing hospitality. In the words of Bob Ross, "We don't make mistakes, only happy accidents." We ended up with the sweet chili wings with a side of buffalo sauce. These wings are phenomenal. We don't particularly like breaded wings, but I would have eaten the breading alone. Jeff was a great host and the bartender was very receptive to details. We will be back. Repeatedly.

Yelp
Great Irish bar across the street from Pat O'briens. My boyfriend and I came here after a recommendation from a friend back home. Glad we stopped in! My boyfriend has an "orange tic tac shot" which he really enjoyed. I had some shots of Skrewball. To eat we shared boudin egg rolls. They were delish!!! Although fried, they didn't taste heavy at all. There was yummyness in every bite. Mike, the bartender was wonderful! Kept great conversation and greeted everyone as they walked in. He even put on the hockey game for us on one of the TVs when we asked. There's also some outdoor seating in the courtyard in the back. We will be back!
google avatar

Jeff N.

Yelp
Right across from Pat O'Brien's is Finnegan's Easy -- an Irish pub with the aesthetic of some of the pubs we have experienced during our trips to Ireland. A narrow passage for walking between the bar counter and high-top seating leads to a small but spacious courtyard in the back, with a heavy emphasis on Jameson varietals on display. We did wait a good few minutes for drinks since there was only one bartender on duty when we visited on a Sunday afternoon. I don't think having only one behind the bar was the norm, but the time felt longer waiting until the bartender finally was able to take our drink order after fulfilling the others around us who had been there before. Still, we had a nice buzz from the Jameson Black Barrel and ginger we ordered as the football matches played on the TV screens while we were there. The atmosphere is lovely, and the buzz is even better if you can get a drink sooner than later.

Yelp
We are regulars at our pub Finnegan's in Delray Beach Florida so when we were walking by on our vacation I told my wife we have to go in . I am extremely happy we did, the bartender came up and was extremely pleasant and ready to give us many options. Antonio was the best , he actually got my wife to try exotic beers and different drinks we have not tried at our local pub . Thank you Antonio for a once in a lifetime experience at a new pub. Let them recommend a new drink and experience something new . Great place to try in town .

Yelp
The chicken wings plain!!!!!!!!!! Soooooooooo amazing! Must try, then across the street to the dueling piano bar, this place is amazing!

Yelp
Exactly what I was looking for in NOLA! In every city I visit, I insist on visiting an Irish pub. I started across the street at Pat O'Briens where they serve a famous "Hurricane" and they even sell the mix. I had a couple here and a beer and they were tasty. Still in search of an Irish vibe, I ventured into this 'pub' (Finnegan's Easy). It did not disappoint. Our group had a blast -- great conversation, very welcoming atmosphere, and good food. The staff was super friendly and we shared some great stories. Great jukebox! Whatever you do, be cautionary when you order your second hurricane here. They float it with 151 and BOY does it sneak up on you. A must visit if you're in NOLA.

Armando T.

Yelp
I have brought my guest here twice now and both times they have loved it highly recommend it as an alternative to Pat O'Brien's, which is closed on Tuesdays.

Yelp
We decided to have dinner here after our folks completed their ride on Thoth. The guys were hungry since they hadn't eaten all day. We chose Finnegan's because we were there the night before and the staff had recommended their kitchen. Menu looked good so we go. Well the menu in the restaurant had several items on the small menu marked out as not available. Not unusual in todays environment. We were told it might take a bit, they are slow. Ok, we get that and tell the bartender we are ordering drinks and apps to Tues us over and ordering meals. We order the apps and they come out quickly! The SW egg rolls are good! The problem came in getting our order in for dinner.. the bartenders friends came in, she took all their orders, ignored us until they went to the patio to sit down and finally took our order. We said we understood and tried to be patient. Her friends say behind us and got there in a reasonable time. Our food took two hours, two meals at a time and burnt!! There were 8 of us and half the table still didn't have food after two hours! The fries were the only part of the meal we can say was good. Wings and fish were burnt badly! Burgers were eh, and by the time the chicken strips were delivered in a to go box!! I guess seating is limited to 2.5hours. The bartender got ugly when I asked for the check, still short two meals. I said we need the meals and intend to eat them there but I want to close the bill. After three times of saying "No, I am not canceling the last two meals, I just want to close the tab" she told me "I will regret talking to her like that!" At that point the same person that told us about having a kitchen the night before, stepped in and apologized. He said he cares about the place and customers and took four of the meals off and offered some free seltzers. Seemed really nice. Mean while the bartender told the kitchen we wanted the remaining meals to go! We finished what was eatable, paid and left. We went some where else for those still hungry. We won't be back but the fries were good and Jerry is trying. Just watch out for the lively young lady in her underwear behind the bar. Especially when her friends come in. Sounds like she will cut you!

Yelp
What a great find!!! The owner, Roland and I are from the same hometown in Jersey. Talked about Freehold. The food, drinks and staff are great. Started with the Rueben Egg Rolls then we had a burger and Fish n Chips. Best burger in NOLA.

Yelp
Gonna be honest. Only went here because of the specials from the tours. Honestly amazing place and the drinks were so goood. The hurricanes are so strong and the service is great. Will def visit again!

Jillian Z.

Yelp
Very chill, and the bartender is very friendly! Definitely get the meat pies. Better than Pat O'Briens!

Yelp
Middle of the road bar.... We pope's invite to watch my giants game. Service was friendly. We found the place pretty dirty, like most of the bars in New Orleans... it did the job for us. Beer and football.

Olivia D.

Yelp
Bartender was so nice! Bar was clean and drinks were priced well. Good place to escape the heat. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Moe is my girl! The best bartender and server of all time. One of the most easygoing spots in the Quarter, cannot go wrong! Great drinks, great food, amazing service, Moe needs a raise and praise

Yelp
So on a recommendation, we went to this bar. At the door they have a drunk/mentally ill person checking ID and covid vaccine/negative test. I handed him my phone to look at my passport and he began scrolling my phone! Then continued with "this won't work". I said what? I called the mayors office and asked what was acceptable proof of a negative covid test and they specifically recommended I use this app. He then said, I don't give a shit about the mayor. I replied well you must since you're enforcing her orders. He then said, I told you I need your ID too. I said well I was looking in my wallet as you were scrolling through MY phone! I gave him some choice words and left. We spent a lot of money on drinks and dinner elsewhere. Never ever will I go back to this douche bag bar.

Yelp
So I'm more than a little embarrassed that I haven't posted a review for Finnegan's, especially since we were there in November 2018! My apologies to Brie... So we were searching the French Quarter on a Sunday afternoon for a place to watch the Packers game, and while there were a few bars in the area with football games on, none of them were the Packer game! Even places like Pat 'O Briens (right across the street from Finnegan's) with multiple rooms with multiple TV's were all playing a Seahawks game. We walked into Finnegan's, a nice, spacious bar just off of Bourbon Street, with maybe a dozen people in the bar and back patio, and asked the bartender (the awesome Brie!) if she would turn on the Packer game. She responded with a hearty "Of course!" and we searched no more! The patrons, the drinks, and of course the bartender made for an incredible afternoon! We made new friends, and had a wonderful time. A HUGE shout out to Wilhelmina, who directed us across the street to the Old Coffee Pot for dinner afterwards, where she's a waitress. We've been to N'awlins many times, and try to eat at as many new, recommended restaurants as possible, and OCP was a incredibly tasty experience, old school, and the service was excellent as well! And Wilhelmina, it was a hoot to hang out with you for the afternoon, thank you, you truly are an original! So I can highly recommend Finnegan's, even if you're not looking for a Packer game on TV! Brie, Wilhelmina, thank you for the kindness and great time.

Yelp
Very chill bar. The prices and selection are right and the atmosphere is very laid back, exactly what you'd expect from a NoLa spot. If you're in there, play "Candy Licker" by Marvin Cease on the jukebox if you're wanting to really have a good time! Made my whole trip

Yelp
When I'm on vacation I like visiting places just one time so I can visit everywhere. Finnegan's was the exception. Came here twice because the food was so exceptional. We got a suggestion to eat here from the bartender at the Toulouse bar. She suggested the rueben egg rolls. I'm a huge fan of Rubens and I love trying new things. These were the bomb. The next night when we were looking for a place to eat we came back here and tried the French dip. I also had a pimm's cup because apparently that's the nola thing to do. It wasn't my favorite, but I'm not a huge fan of Ginger beer anyway. Our bartender was really super nice and attentive. You have to come here and I it's delicious

Maggie E.

Yelp
Great place to hang out for a couple of hours and get off the street. Bartenders are so great and have many unique and tasty drink recommendations. Hurricanes are fantastic, with actual fruit juice and so refreshing.

Joey S.

Yelp
Anthony is a mixologist who can make amazing drinks that encompass things you wouldn't normally order. I hate guiness, and he said he could mix a drink using it that I would enjoy. I drank 3 different guiness based drinks and loved them. He made a carrot based drink that tasted like a milk shake. We had hurricane drinks from 3 different bars and Anthony's were the best. My wife, who doesn't drink really, had 4. They were that delicious. My son had a prosecco based drink that was incredible. If you like great atmosphere and awesome drink creations, this is the place to be.

Yelp
Worst place in the French Quarter. My husband put 20.00 in the gambling machine and it instantly froze, the bartender witnessed it and made a call. We came back 24 hours later and the machine was unfrozen and we asked for our 20.00 and the manager came out and started arguing with us. We as the customers expected retribution and to be treated as customers. The manager was unprofessional and should not be working in the industry. We have frequently patronized this place but never will again.

Yelp
Stopped here after our haunted history bar crawl tour. You get 2 for 1 hurricanes when you show your sticker from the tour. Both bar tenders were awesome and friendly. Drinks were good. Ambiance was cozy/upscale dive. Happy to have our last drink here and left feeling like family. Helps that we had our tour guide with us. Got some extra info on yellow fever in New Orleans.

Dee C.

Yelp
Mary and Mike were awesome. I had never been here or heard of this place but the food the atmosphere and staff were great! Highly recommend
google avatar

Grace S.

Yelp
Great service and then alligator bites were to die for! Jamie is such a sweetie and made sure we were taken care of all night! Our drinks never went empty!

Paul N.

Yelp
sat for 10 minutes waiting for a drink. Bartender served people walking in before people waiting at the bar. Only noti us when we walked out
google avatar

Mark O.

Yelp
Just off Bourbon Street is a friendly, quiet pub where you get great drinks at great prices. The food is decent but it's the staff that makes you want to return. There's a small courtyard in the back too. A great alternative to the mayhem and noise going on down the street.
google avatar

Natalie B.

Yelp
Evan is the best bartender!!! He made the best hurricane! The bar area was cozy but we were able to grab a seat. A lot of people were having a good time.
google avatar

Melinda N.

Yelp
We were waiting for our Haunted History Ghost Tour and were told we could buy 1 get 1 free Hurricane Drink. We came in here and found seats by the bar and ordered our drinks, I don't know if I've drank a Hurricane before but it's super sweet. I like to taste my alcohol in the drink, so unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. However, when they made my sister-in-law her drink, they definitely were a bit more generous with the alcohol pour. It's a decent place to kill time before the tour and if you like the sweet hurricane drink then I guess it's worth it. I believe it was $9.50/2.

Anthony M.

Yelp
Waited forever for service weren't that many people in there felt ignored. Finally got our order taken for the kitchen. We weren't keeping a tab open and the credit card machine kept declining our card (we are locals) and they held our food until their machine worked. Finally got the food to come after a few tries and the burger was missing cheese. I finally got the bar backs attention and informed him about the missing cheese. He said I didn't order a cheeseburger. We went back and forth for a moment and he rolled his eyes and went back to the kitchen. They ended up bringing a new burger out and with one bite into it, it was completely raw. We had enough. I slapped the plate on the counter and we left. $35 wasted. Been here once it was amazing but last night it was a disaster. Unfortunately we probably will not be coming back
google avatar

Yelp
It's a Monday night. You're staying in the French Quarter. You're hungry but it seems as though everyone is out and drinking, but not eating, but you perhaps want to do both? You stumble across Finnegan's, which has a sign outside that loudly displays KITCHEN OPEN LATE! You go inside. Riley (our bartender) was super sweet and makes a strong drink. The food menu is consistent with most bars. We had the quesadilla rolls and the boudin balls. Both were delicious. It was very quiet since they're not quite on Bourbon and it was a Monday evening (not that that means much in NOLA). The outside courtyard is cute with picnic tables. I automatically give 4 stars to (most) any place that has a late-night kitchen available. You never know when hunger will strike!
google avatar

Joanne B.

Yelp
Hands down best bar iN NOLA! The drinks are on point, huge beer selection, great bar menu, and the staff is awesome! Thank you Evan, Bri, and Allie for another great trip to Nola! Last but not least, thank you Jeff (general manager) for always making our Nola trip awesome!

Yelp
Very cool small pub in the quarter. Get the Irish Bloody Mary: spicy w a top off of Guinness. I ordered the BLT and it rocked: Stuffed with bacon. My boyfriend got the French dip and equally liked it. Shana was our server and she was very welcoming. Good stop if you're doing the Quarter.
google avatar

Yelp
Took an unplanned trip into New Orleans on Christmas Day knowing we were going to be lucky to find a decent place open to get some food. We had remembered Finnegan's Wake from previous trips into the quarter and walked to St. Ann to see if they were open, and they were! Grabbed a seat at the bar got some drinks and ordered some grub! The place is small and not so "touristy", a nice little respite, dark and cozy. Bartenders are friendly and attentive, and the food was really good. We ordered a burger (you can't go wrong, right?), and a roast beef sandwich. And if you have a choice of fries or onion rings, get the rings! They are so good! And the horseradish sauce with the roast beef is amazing. It was a great place to go, good beer prices and selection, lots of TV's for watching the games, and a friendly atmosphere.

K P.

Yelp
Jessica (?) was a fabulous bartender. She was personable and friendly. Mostly she made a hurricane from scratch right in front of us. It was hands down the best I've had.
google avatar

Seleyna L.

Yelp
Great drinks!! I came here prior to our ghost tour because they offered 2 for 1 hurricanes to guests going on the tour. The hurricanes were STRONG but you can barely taste the alcohol! Luckily i split one (i got one and my friend got another) so it didn't do too much damage! I also got the Moscow mule (or variation of it, i think it was a mint mule) which was incredibly strong! I prefer stronger drinks so you know your getting your moneys worth. I would definitely stop by especially if you're Taking the haunted tour! You will need your sticker to prove you're going on the tour.
google avatar

Lynn D.

Yelp
Bartender awesome. Took care of 3 crazy girls who wanted music, drinks and girl time 2 for 1 hurricanes healthy and good. Love the atmosphere
google avatar

Steven G.

Yelp
Terrible service. They are running a scam. They charge you for drinks you did not order! Extremely dishonest! Micki was trashed and unable to take our orders, let alone fulfill them. The security guard was acting like a complete jerk, missing teeth and all. We will not be coming back and urge you to avoid this criminal operation at all costs. Update: the management has responded to my friend and our party on facebook. They APOLOGIZED and DISCIPLINED the bartender.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this bar. This is the bar where I watched the Saints win the playoff game that landed them a spot in the Superbowl. Because of that reason alone it's got a special place in my heart. It's also a place that tourists somehow steer clear of. I suppose that's because it's right across the street from Pat O's and they're all hanging out there instead. The thing I love the most about this bar? Two words. Bloody Mary. The first time I came here and was asked what I'd like to drink I asked the bartender how the Bloody Mary was here. He stopped wiping the counter down, put the towel down, bent down a little so that he was at my eye level and said with a mischievous glint in his eye (but total deadpan face), "They are fucking fantastic, sweetheart. I take my Bloody Mary very seriously." Ummm, yeah. SOLD. He then served me the best Bloody Mary I've had to date. And serious he was. I watched him make it (haha who am I kidding... there were multiple viewings of the crafting of this drink because I was drinking them as fast as he could make them and was then ordering another) and there was a definite art to it. All I know is there was Tabasco and Heinz Horseradish involved. And I seem to remember proclaiming my undying love for him. And possibly asking him if I could be the mother of his future children. If you love a great Bloody Mary you now know where to go.

Yelp
Finnegan's is another example of a less touristy bar in the quarter. Located across the street from Pat O's, Finnegan's is a good place to go if you need a break from the insanity that is the FQ. I came in one night in search of a bathroom while walking around the quarter. While the line to the bathroom was ridiculous, I did discover a neat little courtyard. The courtyard was filled with tables and benches and had a very relaxed atmosphere. I could see myself coming back on a nice spring day and hanging out there with friends. If you're in the quarter and looking for a laid back place to relax, check out Finnegan's Easy.
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
They have the best two for one hurricanes and staff is friendly and there is a nice outdoor courtyard with high top tables. This is also next to where they do a haunted history tour so great place to wet your whistle before wandering off into the night
google avatar

Kyle H.

Yelp
I've visited Finnegan's the last two year's I've visited New Orleans. It's right down the street from one of my favorite bars, and near the Voodoo Shop, across from the side street entrance of Pat O'Brien's. It's a respite from the craziness of Bourbon Street, but not so quiet that it's boring. They have a great jukebox- this big screened juke that you can run with an App. It also takes pictures. Good beers on tap- I had possibly the freshest Abita Purple Haze (tap) I've ever tasted! They must really keep clean taps for that to happen. Servers are absolutely pleasant, with just the right amount of leaving you alone and taking care of you. An A-Okay place for light apps, and good beer.
google avatar

Eddie C.

Yelp
Nice, roomy and cold. During the summer, those three things all together definitely make for a nice bar. Add beer an a shot of anything else and look out...and you now have Finnegan's Good selection of on tap beer, my thing. The bartenders you may recognize from other bars, again, very friendly and easy to talk to. In a nice row of like bars, your bound to like this or the adjacent places. Its off of Bourbon street so sometimes it has the more adventurous tourist looking for a more local feel. Has a little patio area that is good for a quiet chat with that special someone.

David M.

Yelp
Definitely order an Irish car bomb and the Reuben egg rolls. Erin was the bar tender and she was AMAZING. Would definitely come back!!

Kim S.

Yelp
We went in because our tour included two for one hurricanes. BUT, the bartender Jessica was amazing, the hurricanes are made from scratch and were oh so good.
google avatar

Steve A.

Yelp
This tiny bar next to the voodoo shop has just about any type of booze you could want, and a garden in the back. If you take a tour next door there is a two for one hurricane offer redeemable here, and it was quite tasty.
