FINZ -- A Mixed Bag This Time
I've been to FINZ many times and it's usually a reliable go-to, but tonight was a mixed experience.
The good:
The sushi was excellent--fresh, beautifully presented, and genuinely delicious. I had the hand roll with tuna, avocado, cucumber, tobiko, and kizami wasabi, along with a spicy tuna roll topped with a creamy, flavorful sauce. Everything on the plate looked as good as it tasted.
The not-so-good:
The service was the worst I've ever had here. We originally asked to sit outside, but it was windy, so we requested a different table. The waiter seemed irritated, even though the new table was closer to his station. He didn't offer any helpful suggestions (like moving closer to the wall for wind protection), just shifted us one table over with clear annoyance.
Drink and food orders came out fine, but the waiter was disengaged. When he asked if we needed anything else, he was already walking away. We had to call out to request water, which he brought--and then disappeared. No one checked in, no offer of dessert, no clearing of plates, no check. After waiting 10 minutes, we finally went to the hostess stand to pay.
To make things worse, the hostess didn't know how to process a credit card, and the manager didn't know how to use Apple Pay. I had to dig out my card and hope it worked.
FINZ may be a Salem staple, but tonight the service missed the mark badly.
