Pie Queen Nicole Rucker Fairfax Restaurant Feels Like an LA Touchpoint - Eater LA

"Nicole Rucker is living in her dream at Fiona, an airy first standalone space for the star baker, situated right on Fairfax. Fiona is part pie and bread shop, part morning sweets destination, and — more than a little bit — part home for Shawn Pham, who’s leading the full food menu with what could be some of the city’s most creative new dishes." - Farley Elliott

Star Baker Nicole Rucker’s Standalone Fairfax Project Opens Monday - Eater LA

"Nicole Rucker’s first standalone restaurant and bakery project is set to open next week. The Fairfax newcomer is called Fiona, and while it will absolutely offer things like takeaway breads and the pies that have made Rucker such a household name, the restaurant will also feature plenty of savory-side stuff from chef Shawn Pham, formerly of Simbal. Over on Instagram yesterday reps for the restaurant announced an official debut set for Monday, November 19, to coincide with the start of the holiday season and their pie pick-ups. The full strength of the restaurant will continue to roll out in the weeks that follow." - Farley Elliott

Nicole Rucker Will Open an All-Day Restaurant on Fairfax With More Than Pastries - Eater LA

"Nicole Rucker sure stays busy. The popular pastry chef has already won prestigious awards for her pies and has made an impact on the Los Angeles coffee scene by wholesaling her stuff to some of the best shops in town, but now she’s closer than ever to actually going out on her own with a new restaurant planned for Fairfax." - Farley Elliott

A hidden gem✨ Sitting inside you felt you are breathing the minimalist, thoughtful, soothing design of the space, and all the staff here were cheerful and willing to help. The Multugrain Porridge was the best buckwheat pancake I've ever had (besides maple syrup, pancake actually fits with salted butter) and we loved the Vietbamede Beef Stew. The pastries were also very nice - couldn't miss the baguette.

I was so excited to visit Fiona. Nicole Rucker makes the most amazing & delicious desserts in Los Angeles. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they also have a fantastic menu! It was inventive, hearty and so yummy! Will definitely be returning and bringing my friends.

Cozy spot. Tip: this place might be better known for baked goods and brunch, but dinner here is anything but an afterthought. I won’t forget the melt-in-your-mouth black cod over a bed of crunchy peanuts and soft onions. And it’s generally a lighter crowd so no competition for tables.

Came here for breakfast . Choices were a tad limited but food & coffee was good - bread was fresh & very nice . Friendly service. I believe the lunch menu is more extensive.

Most delicious pie, best chicken and cabbage salad I’ve ever had, great wine and such a lovely atmosphere for dinner or just a slice of pie! Just heard Fiona is closing and I’m so sad! It was amazing and if you didn’t get to try it you missed out.

Was visiting L.A. from Nashville... had heard about the chocolate chess pie at Fiona through a food blog and decided that I must stop by. In fact, I tried pies from about 6 different bakeries/restaurants in town, as I'm a pie fanatic and own a bake shop in Nashville myself. I have to admit, I was quite let down by Fiona. The lady (didn't get her name) waiting on me on Friday (May 10th) evening was quite stand-offish and a bit rude, honestly. She wasn't inviting at all and was quite snappy while I asked a few questions regarding the restaurant, menu and the release of the owners new cookbook that I'd heard about. I ordered my slice of pie to go. Got back to my hotel and tried the pie, only to be let down, once again. The pie wasn't sweet, as you'd expect a hunk of chocolate pie to be. In addition, the crust of the pie was boring and tasteless. It almost had a 'stale' taste to it, as well as texture, as it didn't have any type of crunch or crisp to it. Honestly, I hate to give such a low rating, especially to another small business, but between the lack of customer service and mediocrity of their pie, I just had to...

I've been trying to love this place. I really want to! But after a few visits I have to say the food and pastries are average. The pies tend to be over-sweet and lacking definition of flavor. The staff here are terrific! And a nice selection art adorns the walls, but I am just not falling in love with the fare.

Great food! Vietnamese inspired beef stew was so flavorful, definitely my favorite. The hamachi crudo with pineapple was also delicious, as was the shredded cabbage with chicken and the grilled flank steak. Every bite was bursting with flavor. But the best part, the bread and dessert! I am a huge lover of pie and the key lime was light and citrusy. I will be coming back to try the brunch.
