Where to Eat Brazilian Food Around D.C. | Eater DC

"Located in Golden Arcade shopping center in Rockville, the food truck’s calling sign is the trail of smoke emanating from the charcoal grill. Hailing from Rio Grande de Sul, the southern state where Brazilian churrasco began, Gui Gonzalez serves a more casual, a la carte version of Brazilian barbecue out of his truck. Pick from four smoky meat options: pork ribs, short ribs, chicken and picanha. You can order them with sides like black beans and Brazilian farofa (toasted cassava flour with bacon and spices) or in an Italian sub bun with melted mozzarella, arugula and pit sauce. Meat can also be ordered by the pound." - Kris Martins

Google
I finally found the best BBQ place in the Rockville Maryland area. The Fire Pit Brazilian Barbecue Food Truck is definitely a place to check it out if you love BBQ. Every food here is amazing and worth the drive. Staffs here are friendly and they give great recommendations. The Beef Ribs are awesome and it’s full of flavors. It’s so soft, moist, juicy and delicious. It been a very very long time for me, since I have a great ribs like this. If you love ribs this place is a ribs heaven for you. The two sides I choose are the potato salad and vinaigrette salad. It’s soooo good. It fits so well with the ribs. Great two sides!!! If you like sandwiches, try the Beef Ribs on the bun. It’s stacked with the beef ribs, fresh arugula, diced tomatoes, red onion, and a drizzle of creamy herbed sauce. It’s super fresh made and absolutely delicious. It’s a must try sandwich. For drink, I like Guaraná Antarctica. If you like ginger ale you should definitely try it. For dessert I would recommend their pudding. It’s one of the best pudding I’ve ever had. If you like are in the Rockville area and want to have the best BBQ in town, you will definitely need to check out this place. I hope the other local communities would come to try the amazing BBQ here and support this amazing food truck. Why are you still reading the reviews??? Go Check Out This Place Now!!!

Google
This is meat done really well. Seasoned and steadily cooked over a fire. I tried the picanha bowl since it was my first time and it was a nice sampling of everything. The potato salad was very creamy. The vinegarette salad had cucumbers that were very bitter but overall, a good experience.

Google
I can't say enough good things about this place. The steak picanha sandwich is amazing, as well as the pork rib sandwich and the potato salad. I recently just tried the chicken sandwich and was surprised it had so much seasoning and flavor. The only bad thing is that I spend $80 a week there. I'd agree with some of the other reviews, $20 for a sandwich alone is expensive for lunch. Get extra pit sauce!

Google
$17.91 for beef ribs that tasted like cardboard? I should’ve gone for the Picanha, but even then, the rice and beans were so bland, I’d rather eat my shoe. Not coming back!

Google
Drove 1 hour and 30 minutes, but it was worthy!!! My friend and I had the Picanha Sandwich, we order more food to go, and will come back more often! Thanks Firepit BBQ Crew !!!

Google
I had an amazing experience at Fire Pit Brazilian Barbecue Food Truck! They serve authentic Brazilian food that takes you straight to the heart of Brazil. The rice and beans were perfectly seasoned, and the churrasco was tender, juicy, and full of smoky flavor. I especially loved the farofa – it added the perfect crunch to every bite! The potato salad and vinaigrette were fresh and delicious, balancing the richness of the barbecue beautifully. If you’re looking for a true taste of Brazilian cuisine, this food truck is an absolute must-try. Friendly staff, generous portions, and authentic flavors – I can’t recommend it enough!

Google
Great barbeque option! The picanha sandwich was incredible - a generous portion of smoky and juicy picanha balanced with fresh vegetables and a sauce and bun that brought it together perfectly. A sandwich has no business being this good. The beef ribs were excellent as well - smoky and tender without being greasy. You can tell a lot of effort and experience have gone into the barbeque. I'll need to try more sides to give a verdict on those. My wait was on the slightly longer side (15-20 mins) but it was certainly worth it, and you can always order ahead as well.

Google
The pics are of the picanha. First time I got just the meat, which is amazing tasting and perfectly cooked but I meant to order the sandwich. So I went back the next day and got the sandwich. And it is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Ever. And I love sandwiches. It's a perfect creation. Even my grill master buddy I boasted about this place too said, and I've never heard him say this in the entire 20 years I've known him - "It's perfect". Then he said the same thing about the beef rib. I don't know if I'll ever hear him say that again let alone twice. That was an unexpected achievement unlock. TL;DR - go here and get the picanha sandwich. Or even just the meat. You're welcome. The beef rib is also 🤌🤌🤌

Yelp
Food was excellent both chicken and steak. It was an actual monsoon when I was picking up my food and I got some umbrella assistance to and from the car to pickup. Great service!

Yelp
Lately I've been into trying out all the DMV Food Trucks. So let's try one close to home at Rockville Pike, many cars pass by this spot on the daily, but today I'm here to finally try out this Brazilian Barbecue! Here's all that I got: Picanha Steak Sandwich Potato Salad Brazilian Caramel Pudding Guarana Soda Picanha is a cut of beef popular in Brazilian cuisine, so you know we had to get that~ My favorites definitely were the Sandwich, and the creamy delicious Caramel Pudding! The sandwich had fresh ingredients: tender steak, fresh acidic vegetables, the house sauce, and the melted cheese to bring it all together. You can't go wrong with the Pudding dessert, and the Brazilian Guarana Soda is always a nice treat~ The potato salad was a bit on the bland side though, could use a bit more seasoning in the sauce it's coated it. Price was fair for Food Truck prices, and there was a seating area off to the side where I could enjoy. Staff were friendly and stayed in communication while the order was being prepared!

Yelp
RUN . . . do not walk to this little but mighty food truck! Funny thing that this bbq joint is in the same parking lot as the Chinese vegetarian restaurant! Now that I've tried both, I can recommend both. LOL. I got the brisket platter with two sides (potato salad and vinaigrette salad). I couldn't wait to try the brisket and popped a bite in my mouth before I could take out the sides and sit myself down. Oh my goodness, the meat is amazing! So soft and if meat could melt in your mouth, this was all that! I am also surprised by the different tastes of the salads. I expected a lettuce type of salad with the vinaigrette, not a type of salsa looking side. Wonderful experience.

Yelp
I had heard (and smelled) so many good things coming from this place! I was excited to give it a try. Stopped in for lunch and couldn't decide what to get, so I ordered the chicken and the picanha platters. Service was friendly and efficient. You order at the window of the truck and wait for them to call your name. The waiting time for my order wasn't bad (about 15 minutes or so), but it was longer than I expected. I thought that they had the meats waiting to be served in a smoker or something and they would just cut off your portion and send you on your way. Apparently, there's a little more preparation involved. It looks like they actually finish the meats on the grill right before serving. It's a nice touch and it gives the meat a rich, smoky aroma. Now, back to the food. I got it home and it was good, like "OK good", but I was expecting it to be better across a number of dimensions. First, the portion size was a bit small. I figured that this is a food truck, so overhead is low, which means more meat for me. Not so much. I'd say each platter had about 5 or 6 ounces or so. If they made it 8-10 ounces, it would've been more satisfying. The smallish portion size wouldn't have bugged me so much if the meats themselves were more to my liking. Both had that smoky char from the grill--a BIG plus, but the chicken was WAY too salty for my taste. The pincaha spices were more to my liking, but I found the meat dry and tough. When you say it's BBQ, I'm expecting it to melt in my mouth. Maybe it's a Brazilian thing. Also, as others have said, the sides here are nothing special. The black beans were fine. They filled me up, but they were nothing special. And the Vinaigrette salad, again, WAY too salty for my taste, plus all the vegetables were mushy. Maybe I just caught them on an off day. Will try them again.

Yelp
Food is great and the ingredients fresh. The meat is BBQ'd right in front of you and is honestly as good as you hope it would be. Just a warning it takes forever for them to make. I've been here a few times and the 15-20 minutes has been 25 minutes each. Just the reality of being a busy food truck with lots of patrons but definitely not fast..

Yelp
Short version: The meats are great but the sides leave something to be desired. I ordered the picanha with two sides (black beans and farofa). The picanha was a little surprising in that I'm used to a luscious fat cap crown over the remainder of the meat. This was sliced differently with each horizontal cut containing a piece of the fat cap. Additionally, Fire Pit provides a light green dipping sauce which I'm pretty sure was made from lightly roasted green peppers. It paired really well with the meat regardless of ingredient composition. I'm definitely not complaining about the picanha especially at this very reasonable price. The sides weren't my favorite. The black beans consistency was a bit too watery for my liking and contained a very light spice profile. The farofa is pretty grainy but that's on me for ordering a side dish that isn't going to be my favorite from a pure texture standpoint. Overall, there aren't too many choices overall for sides (or entrees) as it's pretty clear this food truck runs a pretty efficient operation. But regardless, there does seem to be drop off between the entrees and the sides. Overall, however, the entrees carry the day and are excellent options for your lunch salvation. If you are located in Rockville, this is certainly worth your time.

Yelp
The grilled meats are exceptional here at Fire Pit Brazilian BBQ. I'm not so much of a fan of their sides, however, their grilled proteins are very good. There's nothing wrong with their sides, however, they are acquired flavors indigenous to Brazilian cuisine, such as their version of potato salad. I appreciate the customer service here. The are very friendly and professional. I ordered the pork ribs however after I ordered I saw how delicious the beef ribs looked as the chef was cooking them on the grill at the back of the truck and he was gracious enough to let me try a piece. It was very tender, juicy, and flavorful. I will definitely visit again when in the area. It seems their meats are cooked to order, so consider ordering online. I ordered in person and some customers arrived after me and retrieved their orders before me, so it makes sense to order in advance to plan for the cook time. Give them a try.

Yelp
I am obsessed with the amazing and delicious beef ribs sandwiches at Fire Pit. Everything about it was just mouthwatering. At almost $15, I initially felt the sandwich was pricey, but after tasting the quality of the beef and the rest of the ingredients, I feel a bit more justified with the cost. My favorite things about the sandwich had to be the way the collagen simply melted in my mouth... I loved the saltiness of the meat compared to the slight bitterness of the arugula. The sub bun serving as the bread held its own with all the meat, and I was amazed by how soft it was (not crusty or hard). This is my opinion, and I'm worried I'm channeling my love for Birra tacos, but I was kind of craving a more beefy /spicy sauce to have added to the sandwich... I know this is Brazilian and Birra are of course Mexican, but I am curious as to whether there is a Brazilian take on this... Okay, back to the facts: The sandwiches also come wrapped in foil and then put in a paper bag, so no plastic involved! The two female employees working the truck had infectious smiles and seemed genuinely happy to serve, it shows their pride in their work. I felt there were a good amount of open (all free) parking spots in the lot when I went, so no trouble there.

Yelp
Food/Drink, 4/5: We got the beef ribs sandwich. The sandwich itself was pretty good, the main reason I give the food a 4 is that I put in a note online to not put cheese on one of the sandwiches which they noted they could accommodate, but they still put cheese on it. Also, they don't have many options for the sides. That is the one down side. Service, 4.5/5: The online order was pretty quick and easy. When we went to go pick up the food, the cashier was very helpful and made the pick up easy. Pricing, 4/5: I'd say the pricing is similar to most bbq places. Not too expensive, not so cheap. Overall Experience, 4/5: It was a good first time, I'd come here again, but I'd probably get the meat by the pound instead of the sandwich.

Yelp
Fantastic Brazilian BBQ right on Rockville Pike sounds too good to be true, but it's actually even better than that somehow! The menu is simple, like a Ramones song: four meats (beef ribs, pork ribs, chicken, or a particular beef cut called picanha) served with two sides or in a sandwich. I couldn't pick, so I picked chicken with beans and a vinaigrette salad and then a pork rib sandwich. These were absolutely the right choices, but I don't think you can go wrong here unless you hate deliciousness. The pork ribs are perfection, rich and unctuous, full flavor from pre-grilling marinade and expertise on the grill that imparts a wonderful lightly smoky flavor and char. It would be great on its own, but it's also excellent added to an 8 inch Italian sub roll with melted mozzarella, arugula, and "pit sauce" (with Mayo and...other stuff?) for a filling, life-affirming combination of salt, fat, and smoke. BBQ can get lost in the sauce or in the condiments, but the balance here is just right. As stellar as that sandwich was, the chicken was even better. Soft and tender with a liberal application of dry spices (onion, garlic, pepper and maybe lemon pepper?) all over every square centimeter combined with smoky grill flavor made this a dish I'll be dreaming about and coming back for often. It's so good that even after eating it and a big sandwich, my taste buds are arguing that I need to go back to Fire Pit for pre-dinner and dinner tonight. In short, you need this in your life!

Yelp
It a bad place for bbq - but definitely a pricey place, especially considering it isn't a sit down place with tons of overhead costs. Depends on what is ordered. Our group had a mix of tasty food and "meh" food (lacked that bbq flavor pr sides that lacked seasoning). But worth a try. My guess is it may be better on a different day, but will still cost a chunk of change.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this food truck enough Food is amazing. Do yourself a favor and give them a try

Yelp
New Food Truck Alert! This truck recently opened and they specialize in Brazilian BBQ! Ordered the Picanha (grilled top sirloin cap) with garlic-seasoned jasmine rice & black beans with beef ribs meat and special spices. The portion was nice and everything went well together. Friend gave me a solid recommendation! I will definitely visit again.
google avatar

Yelp
This food is amazing! Everything I ordered tasted good. I gobbled it up like there was no tomorrow! Besides, my girlfriend had her eyes on my food! There was only one woman running the food trailer, but she was very friendly. It's a food trailer, so there really isn't any place to sit & eat except for your vehicle. The wait was well worth it, though. It was only about 10 minutes, and I was 2nd in line.
google avatar

Natalie J.

Yelp
Great food. I ordered the ribs and my husband got the picanha. It came with 2 sides and a green sauce. We got the rice and potatoes salad. I also tried the farofa but didn't like the texture.
google avatar

Jasmine N.

Yelp
This was my second visit to Fire Pit Brazilian BBQ and once again, it was so amazing! Today, I ordered the Picanha along with their vinaigrette salad & potato salad as the sides. For $16 it is such a satisfying meal. Everything was super flavorful & filling. The workers are all very friendly & quick to service. Will keep supporting :D
google avatar

Phoebe W.

Yelp
The picanha is like butter. I got it in the sandwich and the flavors are soooo good but very hard to eat as each strip of steak just comes out. I pulled out the picanha and swapped it with the beef rib and that was delicious as well and just ate delicious picanha by the slice. Can't wait to try the chicken and pork ribs.
google avatar

Juanita Q.

Yelp
I saw this truck by accident, while traveling on Rockville Pike. I didn't see much smoke but I did see a man cooking my food in the back of the truck. I got the picanha with white rice and black beans. The food was actually pretty good and the portion generous. The reason for the 4 star rating is because they have a limited menu and the cost of my meal was $16, without a drink.

Yelp
(4.25) Very good. NOTES: Located in the Shopping Lot next to Jiffy Lube and near the Wendy's. You order at the window & when they call your name you pick-up at the same window. Yelp
Yum! Awesome food truck. I visited for the first time with my son on a rainy Friday afternoon and ordered the picanha with 2 sides. My son didn't want to wait so he ate as soon as we entered the car. The picanha was tender and perfectly seasoned (not too salty) so we could enjoy the beefy flavor with the fat cap. We also enjoyed the garlic rice (very mild garlic flavor) and vinaigrette salad (nice acidity). We also tried the farofa which was new to us which I thought was good but my son thought was very dry. We also brought one order home for my other son who also devoured the picanha. Thankful that we can eat grilled picanha without having to go to a sit down Brazilian bbq restaurant. Also appreciated the service as first timers. Will go again.

Yelp
We arrived at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening and they were sold out of their steak and cheese, which is all that we really wanted. They said it was a very busy day and they sold out quickly. The very nice lady tempted me with samples of their steak and I shared it with my wife and we were blown away. She knew we would be sold and she was right! So we ordered a couple of their New York strips with sides. The meat was quite possibly better than some of the top sirloin cuts that I love from Fogo de Chao. The nice young gentleman who was preparing the beef explained that he uses charcoal, while Fogo uses gas. I believe this makes the difference. The beef alone would give them a five-star, but weighing in on the sides, I would move it to a four to a four and a half star review. We didn't care at all for the Farofa. It's a cassava flour side dish with bacon and onions which sounds great on paper, but it comes up dry with a very odd texture that is hard to explain. I wouldn't recommend anybody try this. The potato salad was actually very good but needed perhaps some pickle in it. The rice was seasoned nicely with garlic, and the beans were good but just not great. The stand out here was definitely the steak. I can't wait to go back for the steak and cheese with the beef rib meat. I already know that my sides will be... rice and potato salad. If I'm blown away by the steak and cheese, I will update my review to a five-star.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Excellent. I had the steak sandwich today. If only they had indoor seating. But I'll be back for carry out.
google avatar

David J.

Yelp
Coming from TX where there are bountiful options for Brazilian BBQ, we were craving some good picanha. The only local options were Fogo de Chao which I feel like is over priced and overrated. I happened to find this spot on Yelp and at first I was skeptical, but the flavor of the meat was great and the sides were tasty! The portions of the beef rib was larger than the picanha, but both were good. The green sauce was a great addition. It's true to its advertised "fast casual", not the AYCE style of other Brazilian BBQ options, but definitely worth a try when you don't want to get dressed up and want something quick on the go.

Yelp
Love the food and the staff!!! Keep up the good work hopefully you guys can open a restaurant one day!!!

Aaron R.

Yelp
The food was ok. I ordered the beef ribs and they were pretty dry and a small portion. I was really excited about this place because I love Brazilian food but for the price the food the quantity was too small and not as fresh as I would have liked.

Jeremy L.

Yelp
Outstanding Brazilian BBQ. I ordered the Picana with all sides. The family loved it!!
google avatar

Rody N.

Yelp
I'm so glad we found this food truck. The food is amazing. I believe it's family own and ran. They were all super friendly. I can't get enough of the beef rib sandwich; tender beef top with delicious pit sauce and complimented with some bright green. My wife got the beef rib plater with potatoes salad and vinaigrette (black bean salad) and she love it. Can't wait to go back and try their picanha but will be hard not to get the beef sandwich. Highly recommend it!

Yelp
not sure what went wrong here but this is my first time ordering and when it got to me it was half eaten. pictures below:

Patricia G.

Yelp
A shelter in the storm: I came here on a rainy day and they were still open and so welcoming! I got the pork rib sandwich and the black beans. It all smelled so good that I had to go ahead and try a few bites while I was still in the parking lot! The black beans were good but the pork rib sandwich was AMAZING!!! I don't know what the sauce is that they have with it but it is so so good. I was slopping up as much as I could and then I was so happy to look in the bottom of the bag and see they had given me several extra containers of the sauce! Highly recommend! I will definitely be coming back soon.

Jill C.

Yelp
$19 for a sandwich that was bland. I ordered it after I left my car at the Jiffy Lube next to the food truck. I got an oil change and new battery before the sandwich was ready. I don't if they forgot my order but the lady slopped some meat and something else on a bun when I asked for my money back because it had been 30 minutes since I ordered and it wasn't ready. I'm too timid to protest at the time.

Josh B.

Yelp
Nice family operation. They were very friendly and knowledgeable about allergens for the individual I work with, who is disabled, celiac, and allergic to dairy. Beef rib was incredibly rich, tender, and fatty. Hard to find good beef rib like this. Looking forward to trying the picanha next time.
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING!!! The beef ribs are out of this world and all the fixins are delicious too. My daughter loves the potato salad and my other daughter stole my meal because she loved it so much. We went back the next day and will be a regular customer. Also, the staff is soooooo nice. Do yourself a favor and go there NOW!
google avatar

Richard I.

Yelp
Great BBQ from this food tuck. I especially like the Picanha(sirloin) and ribs. The sides are great as well especially the beans.

AverageJ0e P.

Yelp
The flavorful smoked picanha and beef ribs plates, along with each plate of 2 fixings the potato salads, basmati rice and vinaigrette packed well in the tight sealed plastic containers. They were served by two lovely friendly women and a grill master themselves. It was my first time at the Fire Pit truck. While I savored the delicious Brazilian treats at home after 30 minutes drive, it may be best to eat there in my car while it's still hot. Will come again, no doubt! PS. I'm the one with a broken foot in the protective boot and a cane. Cheers!!!

Christopher K.

Yelp
Tried picanha and beef ribs so far. Both delicious. So is the vinaigrette salad. I'll be back for the rest.
google avatar

Yelp
i always have a craving for picanha & now i'm so glad that there's a food truck where i can have it whenever i want!! the service was really good & everyone was so kind. the sauce that came with it is very addictive

Heloisa B.

Yelp
As a Maryland resident. it's quite impossible to find tasty Brazilian food + good service in the area. I highly recommend Fire Pit for the amazingly tasty and fresh bbq! The picanha, so tender and smoky! Rice is to die for - you can taste their seasoning! Love it . Good luck on your growing business! Maryland needed you!

Rachael R.

Yelp
The picaña is the most perfect meat anyone has ever created. These people perfected it. That's all you have to know.

Ayn M.

Yelp
So glad I was finally able to try Fire Pit Brazilian BBQ today and it did not disappoint. The Picanha was so delicious, tender and juicy! I also got the pork rib sandwich that didn't last very long, it was so good! The black bean side, farofa and potato salad are also a must try. Can't wait to get more food from them! My fave new BBQ spot!

Lauren K.

Yelp
Delicious! Ordered the chicken thigh, steak, black beans, vinaigrette salad and farofa and we loved it! The meat was really juicy, and you could definitely taste that it had been grilled-great aroma/wood smell. Vinaigrette salad was perfect and so were the beans. Great service, it was cool seeing them prepare your meat for you. We will be back for sure!

Adriel D.

Yelp
Best Brazilian food in the dmv!!! Awesome service - couldn't recommend more. The picanha was delicious.

Jahan R.

Yelp
The food was amazing along with the service! We had a Server named Michal he was a fantastic waiter. Very polite and hard working.

Steve N.

Yelp
It's too bad that you can't print your menu someplace, so that I could call in an order. Sure, you put it in one of your pictures. Have you ever attempted to scan a pic from your camera screen? Not possible, as far as I know. And if you expect me to print off the pic, print it, and see if it is clear enough to scan, then you are sadly mistaken. If you are so arrogant, as to believe it is a privilege to be able to spend money on your food, regardless of how difficult you make it, then all I can say is:. BYE!

Caroline K.

Yelp
Um pedacinho do Brasil em Maryland, comida sensacional, atendimento maravilhoso, virou um dos meus lugares preferidos

Andrea N.

Yelp
Delicious! Highly recommend beef ribs sandwich with the pit sauce. Really nice understanding service too, we accidentally placed an online order a day they were closed and they filled it the next day.
