The 21 Best Restaurants In The North Fork - Long Island - The Infatuation

"This minty green Victorian-era house has a couple of patios, a covered porch space, and plenty of indoor seating, so it’s as flexible as you need it to be and easy enough to visit with kids or a stroller. This is the spot if someone has a hankering for a creamy chowder, big burgers, and skin-on, hand-cut fries, with a friendly staff that keeps things moving, even when the place packs out. They do a great brunch on Sundays that’s worth it for the homemade pop-tart alone." - sal vaglica

Everything about this place is so amazing. I can’t wait to go back. What we got: Burrata with confit tomato’s, (nut free) basil pesto with a side of crostini - 10/10. The burrata was creamy and delicious. The pesto was vibrant. The confit was sweet but savory adding a lovely touch. A Really Good Burger - it really was a really good burger. The patty was hearty and cooked to perfections. I added cheese and bacon. The bacon was THICK and delicious, definitely worth the extra money. First Fries - incredible skin on 3 times blanched fries. You’re able to add on sauces for dipping which is such a nice touch. We got the garlic aioli which was really acidic forward, truffle aioli which was divine with the right about of truffle, and the scallion remoulade which quickly became my fave dip after dip. Lemonade - it has the perfect balance of sweet but tartness. I could imagine having it on a hot day as a refreshing beverage. Overall, I highly recommend!!

My sister and I’s waiter Clint was the best. Kind, cool and funny. We had the best conversations about recommendations for food on the menu and places to go visit around town while visiting, even after the restaurant was closing down for the night. The food and drinks were delicious. I would highly suggest visiting.

Every time I have been to First & South, I enjoy a fantastic meal…and every time the experience gets even better than before. I feel as if I stumbled upon this gem while on vacation in 2012, and every few years I go back and take new people with me. Wonderfully creative approachable food, great energy, seamless service, and the impression that your evening is in great hands. My wife and I came here for lunch and had an outstanding experience. I ordered the New England clam chowder, and it was easily one of the best I’ve had—loaded with clams and perfectly balanced without being overly creamy. My wife had the shrimp and lobster sliders, which were fresh, flavorful, and paired perfectly with her Bloody Mary. But the real standout? The hand-cut fries—crispy, golden, and absolutely delicious! Despite the place being busy, the service was attentive and friendly, making the whole experience even better. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town. Highly recommend!

What an incredible experience we had today at First and South! It was our first visit, and certainly won’t be the last, thanks to some amazing service by Patrick, great drinks and delicious food! Highly recommend the miso salmon, as well as the poke bowl! What initially brought us there was the fact that they’re dog friendly outside and in the bar area (I think I have that correct…) but aside from that, it’s a really cute spot with killer drinks and phenomenal food. Nuff said, don’t take my word for it. We made a reservation on Resy and got right in. Do the right thing and plan ahead, especially on busy weekends (we went on Memorial Day and still no wait to sit with our reservation). This is literally all we need when we go out to Greenport with our dog and we’ll definitely be a frequent stop!

Went for a Monday lunch and enjoyed the Monday Mussels Special. Great value and quality! Good vibes and service as well.

Google
This welcoming restaurant is a local favorite, known for its vibrant atmosphere and friendly service. The menu is varied and offers plenty of healthy choices, appealing to a wide range of tastes and dietary preferences. The chef is truly exceptional—each dish is thoughtfully prepared with beautiful presentation and a clear emphasis on farm-to-table freshness. Both indoor and outdoor dining options are available, making it a great spot year-round. It’s more than just a meal—it’s an experience that stands out in every way. This place is out of the ballpark… a home run!

Google
We found First & South to be just okay— the atmosphere was nice and we were seated right away, but after reading so many positive reviews, we were a bit disappointed by our dishes. We ordered the first fries as an appetizer, and the roast chicken, burger, lemon pepper shrimp, and gluten free mac and cheese as entrees. As a table, we agreed we enjoyed our meals, but they felt a bit overpriced. The lemon pepper shrimp was mainly pasta and lacked very much shrimp, which was misleading the menu description. Not a bad experience, but could be better overall!

Yelp
We really enjoyed our lunch at First and South! The staff was super friendly and loved that we had our dog. We were able to sit out on the covered patio with him and the waitress was really sweet with him. She kept our drinks filled and was very fast with everything. We got our oysters in no time and our main dishes didn't take too long. I tried the chicken sandwich that came with a Thai sauce. It had an amazing flavor and I would definitely order it again if we came back. We really liked First and South with its screened-in patio and cute inside. It is a really good option for lunch in Greenport especially if you can't have gluten like my family.

Yelp
My partner and I were visiting Greenport area and stopped by First and South for a quick lunch! It was super busy on a weekend so it took a while for us to get seated, but afterwards food came quick and servers were attentive. Started off with their clam chowder which was well seasoned and tasty! While I liked the salty bacon flavors, I felt like it overpowdered the clams a little, or perhaps the ratio can be adjusted? Enjoyed how creamy the soup was as well as the amount of additional vegetables. For mains, the lobster and shrimp sliders were better than expected. The seafood pieces were fresh and the mayo wasn't too much. The ratio of meat to veggies were good. Fries were pretty standard. The fried chicken sandwich was pretty decent! Liked how they used two thin tender pieces of fried chicken breast instead of one. Only wish they put their wet ingredients on top so the burger could stay more intact. Overall, a decent meal but nothing crazy to write home. Would be interested in seeing what other seasonal items they offer next time!

Yelp
Great lunch! Also nice brunch menu. Sat on the porch with our doggo today. Service was friendly, helpful and prompt. I had the saffron mussels and an order of fries with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc; hubby had the ahi tuna burger. The pièce de résistance was the gluten-free brownie sundae - wow, what an amazing and delectable treat! Definitely a relaxing and satiating meal. Highly recommend sitting outdoors. Live music today was an added bonus to enhance the dining experience! We will be back!

Yelp
What a wonderful Christmas vibe in Greenport. This place is great all year 'round but it's magical at Christmas time with a great "small town" atmosphere. Off season most of us here live locally but there's no discrimination against the straggling visitors. Food is outstanding with many, rotating, local options. Solid cocktail menu and a nice, simple wine list. The Chowder just may be the best around. The fries definitely are!

Yelp
Cute little neighborhood spot. Great food and cocktails, Joe was good to us! Greek salad, clam chowder and burger were all amazing. Dog friendly too :)

Yelp
This was a good place with great service and a good vibe. It was packed on Friday night when we were there. I especially liked that the menu is labeled very well for those looking for something gluten-free. In fact, we chose this restaurant because of the gluten-free options on the menu Would definitely come back

Yelp
Absolutely excellent and can't wait to come back. I had the fluke special with local veggies and I have no regrets. My only complaint is that I wish I had more! We ordered fries and carrots as appetizers for the table. We were all a big fan of the malt vinegar and black garlic dips. Don't skip the Mac and Cheese- get that for the table too, yum. The ambiance feels like a family home, but in a good way. It is inviting and cozy, and meets the vibe of Greenport.

Yelp
The food here is great! A little on the pricy side but can't complain because at least the quality is good. The corn was unbelievable, drenched in sauce and Cotija. The roasted corn was Great but portion was really small. We also got the Mac n cheese, it was perfectly made and loaded with various cheeses and topped with crispy bread crumbs. The brownie dessert was not the best. The flavor of the brownie was unique because it had tahini but it came in a mason jar and it was layered with ice cream and cram on top so it was basically impossible to get a bite of the brownie without making a mess of the desert. By the end few bites it was a melted mess. It should've been served in a bowl in my opinion and have a few more brownie pieces. Service was nice, we had a very friendly waitress and the hostess was able to accommodate our request for sitting outside despite it being very crowded by having us wait near the bar or dining room until a table opened up. Good ambiance - it's a beautiful restaurant

Yelp
Came here for lunch today. Family friendly, they have a stroller parking but didn't have any changing table in the restrooms. My husband and I split the happy hour wings, fried & the sourdough BLTA. The avocado blt was very messy and hard to eat, wish It wasn't the thick center cut bacon. The fries were great along side the garlic lemon aioli. My son had chicken fingers and fries which were just OK.

Hailey T.

Yelp
Saffron mussels were some of the best mussels I have ever had (and that's coming from a red mussels girl!!). Ambiance is always nice especially sitting outside in the summer, but they have blankets a nd heaters during the winter as well! Huge gluten free selection that is all delicious!

Yelp
I was visiting a friend and we Stopped bin for the happy hour and $2 oysters on a Friday afternoon which happened to be Cinco de Mayo. They had a nice complement of Mexican beers chilling on ice so we indulged. Kyle was our friendly bar tender who served us. All was really great. The oysters were delicious and the beers cold. I even received a $5 coupon for my next visit!

Yelp
I have visited here before and it was exceptional. But twice for the dinner experience it has been unfortunately not great. The pomodoro with shrimp is a very easy, simple dish that you can season with almost anything, but it was weirdly bland. Unfortunately I sent it back because why stuff carbs with no flavor? The waitress was covering many tables, so we didn't see her much. Our water ran out and we never got a refill. But after I sent my meal back a manager brought out some chowder so I wasn't "sitting with nothing in front of me". Nice touch. They didn't offer dessert or after dinner drinks, so I was happy to head out. It's still a 4 star, because I've had some great stops in the past, and it's very early season. It's a beautiful restaurant with typically friendly staff. If you're in the area, it's a good bet. Worth a try.

Yelp
We sat at the bar. Great service: mussels were delicious. Highly recommend it. Ambiance is fun and chill. Definitely recommend it

Yelp
burger is called "really good burger", I ordered it rare and it was medium well. I'd describe it as "just a an ok burger"

Yelp
First and South was suggested by the chef of PORT who was preparing for the restaurant's opening on May 9th. It was lunch time on a Friday and First and South was busy with patrons. My wife and I opted to sit at the bar. The bartender was businesslike and cordial lacking any enthusiasm for making small talk with customers. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich with French fries (a $2 up charge for substitution that we were not told about) and the Kale Salad with grilled chicken (a $12 up charge stated on the menu). The sandwich was fresh and tasty and the French fries were excellent - tastes like homemade. The salad was very good but lacked dressing as it was quite dry. The dining room was bright and quaint New England style painted in dark blue and white molding making it comfortable and pleasing. It seemed filled with both tourists and locals giving it an interesting vibe.

Yelp
Never Have I Ever! Has anyone ever heard of that game? Well, I just had a "never have I ever" experience. My husband and I made reservations at this restaurant that we had both researched here in Greenport Long Island. It is called First and South. So you can guess what the address is. After a long day of walking around, exploring, and being very hungry, we arrived at the restaurant earlier than our requested time, to find out that they were seating people outside without reservations, and when we asked to be seated outside, they told us that they were reserving a table of two outside for a couple who is coming with a dog. Not only was the couple not there, but the fact that the dog took precedence over a reservation of two human beings. Being flabbergasted by this outcome, my husband was rendered speechless! That's a first! Normally, I would've taken control and spoken with a manager, but I was also rendered speechless! There were two tables for two outside that were available, and unoccupied, and we were denied a table because a couple was coming with a dog. Unspeakable. I am an animal lover, I get it, but COME ON!! If you're really hungry and you make a reservation there, I wouldn't go because you may not be able to be seated where you want to be. I am still speechless at the incompetence of the hostess. I cannot speak for the food because I didn't have an opportunity to try it. However, based on the way they run their business, I wouldn't recommend or frequent this restaurant. But, if you'd like to try it, go ahead, but don't expect to get a table if there's a dog on the reservation. The Hostess showed no sense of professionalism or was even interested in trying to be polite. As the first person to greet patrons she should show some desire to provide good customer service.

Yelp
Broad menu options with consistent high quality. Service was attentive. Had a great meal. Solid choice.

Yelp
After being a summer homeowner for 37 years I have sold my house in December 2022. First and South was one of the eateries that I frequented often. Last summer and this Saturday when with my family visiting Greenport we decided to dine there. Last year upon receiving the bill and controlling it item by item we discovered that a $70 bottle of wine was being billed at $170. When we brought the error to the attention of the waitress all we received was " Ohhh I am so sorry it was a mistake " And guess what this Saturday again a $48 bottle of rosé had been billed as $64. WOW what a coincidence you would say. No?? Is this a common practice at this restaurant? Who knows. I would highly recommend whoever dines there, make sure you double check your bill and don't get ripped off .

Yelp
I stopped by for one of their famous pop tarts at the end of our trip right before heading home. The staff was very nice and the snack was delish. I wish they made them on other days besides Sunday because I'd come back for them everyday ;)
google avatar

Yelp
The food at First and South is on the good side of average and a little overpriced, but after a few visits I've come to appreciate this place for other reasons. For one thing, they makes a great use of their indoor and outdoor space, and as such often have space available when other restaurants are full. The atmosphere is charming, too. And the menu, while sort of standard, has decent options for everyone- vegetarians, unadventurous diners, kids- which makes it a good spot for a family meal out. On top of this, the staff is really friendly and accommodating. This is a great place for a larger group, dining with kids, or dining with dog in tow. Somehow they make it all work.

Yelp
Food coma. Absolutely delicious!!! Came here due to their huge amount of gluten free options. Thank you to Kate for helping us choose our dishes. For those of you gluten free it's a gluten free fryer which is very exciting. We started with the buttermilk wings. They were excellent. I got the lobster and shrimp roll with fries. The flavoring was so fresh and on point. The dipping sauces for the fries incredible. Cute atmosphere. Can't wait to go back. Already know what I'll be trying next!

Yelp
So , I have to say the entree dishes here i'd say are their stars, infact if that was their only food i'd probably give It a 5/5, but I am not in love with their handhelds, I have had their burgers and me and my sister both said the same thing; It was okay, the fries are okay too not bad, just nothing amazing too soggy, even after asking foor WD. I think where they really excel is their more expensive options.. which is nice anyways but if they upgrade those sandwiches, this place would be a really well rounded restaurant. My boyfriend and I are in love with the oatmeal pie but use better icecream.. whatever It was paired with tasted like the icecream that comes from a vending machine that will never melt but the actual pie is honestly one of the best desserts.. you guys are 10ft. from the creamery buy a dang bucket from them and you get to support a local spot. we basically drank the entire broth out of the mussels and the mussels themselves we're really good too. the PAPUSASSSSSSS, never get rid of them please. even the guac paired with It tasted fresh My family will be obsessed with them and we will be there july 15-21. PLS. and lastly the pepper lemon shrimp was delish, especially if you add some of that mussel broth right over the top. Yes.

Yelp
Great supper here. Cozy space, especially in the back room. Looks like it would be lovely during the day and in warmer weather. Staff were attentive, friendly and professional. We shared some oysters, then had the delicious tuna burgers accompanied by the amazing First Fries (get the trio of yummy sauces for extra fun). Nice beer and cocktail options. We went all out and had dessert, the decadent brownie sundae. Definitely big enough to share. There are lots of gluten free options on the entire menu and everything was clearly marked, which is always appreciated. We were in Greenport for a quick girls' getaway but I wish I lived closer, or that First and South would open another location a little further west; I would be a regular customer.

Yelp
Beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces. Brunch menu has lots of great options. Our meals were delicious. Service was very attentive. We were a walk-in on a Sunday ar prime time for brunch with no issue.

Yelp
Place came highly recommended from a local, we ate at Claudio's two nights in a row prior and the service and food at Claudio's was much better. Service was meh, food was ok. The salad was the star, we also had wings and mussels. For what it is it's very over priced and underwhelming. Ambiance and kitchy decor and building were the best part. Glad to have tried something else but I wouldn't go back. For such a cute establishment I wish the food had been better.
google avatar

Erica A.

Yelp
The service was excellent. My friend and I walked in for a late lunch (2pm) and were sat at an inside table right away. There is outside seating with shade just a bit too hot for us. Indoor ambiance is casual. Friendly staff. Very attentive and helpful. We had the lobster shrimp roll and ham yams it was all yummy. Also the bourbon lemonade was a refreshing drink and I am not a bourbon drinker! Loved it all!
google avatar

Christina V.

Yelp
Nice spot to have in the area. Lots of outdoor space nicely covered. Loved the decor , seating and ambiance. Adequately staffed, great customer service and prompt service. The food was disappointing however, very small menu with little options. French fry appetizer were just average french fries for the price point I thought there would be something more too it. Clam chowder was okay, but very little clams. Fried chicken sandwich also very bland. They should step up the menu as I really like the space and location. Appreciated the mocktail menu , very good mocktails.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for lunch prior to hitting up a few Greenport vineyards. The atmosphere was homey, comfortable and light. The staff was very friendly. Our serve gave honest meal recommendations. I settled on the oyster Po' Boy, which was huge, fresh and delicious. My friend ordered the special roast pork pupusas and loved it. I would definitely go back if I'm the area again.

Yelp
HIDDEN GEM IN GREENPORT!! I will post food pics next time I am there, but this place has become a staple of our Greenport visits. Five stars for sure!!!

Yelp
We came to this restaurant on our "mini moon" honeymoon as it was one of the few restaurants in the area that was open on a Monday night and later than most. Well, I am glad that those circumstances landed us here because it as great restaurant. We got some drinks before dinner and while they were out of the beer my husband ordered, the waiter arrived with a recommendation that my husband really enjoyed. We both spilt the pulled pork sandwich that comes with fries and the bacon Mac n cheese and both were absolutely delicious. The pulled pork sandwich came with slaw and banana peppers and we aren't used to peppers being on a pulled pork sandwich and it was a great touch. We asked for their goat cheese ranch on the side for the fries despite neither of us caring for goat cheese and it was the most delicious ranch!! We literally want to bottle it and take it home. The waiter, Patrick, was super attentive, helpful, and had such a great personality and eagerness to please that made the whole experience really enjoyable. We are so happy we stopped in for dinner, definitely check it out! Unfortunately the picture of our meal turned out blurry but trust me...it doesn't matter how it looked - it was fantastic!

Yelp
I love everything about First and South from the atmosphere to the friendly vibe and service and every delicious bite from start to finish!! Wedge Salad and burgers are my faves

Thomas S.

Yelp
Delicious food and wonderful staff! The fries were great too and fantastic and we had the shrimp and lobster sliders which were also deliciou!

Ed Ryan R.

Yelp
I grew up in the bar/restaurant business, You can have a great product but if your staff is rude they should be replaced. This is a resort town and people are spending a lot of money to dine out. The bartender with the tattoos and man bun was so blatantly obnoxious I literally wanted to jump over the bar and teach him some manners. I have a 25 year old autistic son who is non verbal, this jerk thought he was drunk so he ignored us. We let him know we were unhappy with his demeanor and lack of service, he picked up the tip I left and threw it at me. I really hope he gets replaced as the food there is excellent but I will not step foot in their ever again. Time for Mr Cool guy to find another line of work.

Yelp
Had dinner here a few days ago. We had the shishitos, the steak and pasta primavera for dinner. And, the chocolate cake, that was homemade, for dessert. It was such a cute place. We sat in the bar area at a high top table. The atmosphere was wonderful. The service was good. The food yummy. The fries that came with the steak were amazing. We had a little mishap that was fixed really quickly. We will come back.

Deborah S.

Yelp
Tasty food. Attentive accommodating service. Lovely place. Every dish we ordered was delicious.

Debra C.

Yelp
Love this place. Always good food n nice cocktails! Sometimes they have live music which is always fun. Friendly people n all around a good time!
google avatar

Greta D.

Yelp
Portions are huge. We stopped in for lunch & our party of 5 enjoyed every bite. My complaint - lack of bottled beer variety. I can't drink well, or as they say in the north, tap beer & don't drink real alcohol. I was left with water and "tap" soda, which wreaks havoc on my stomach as well. Bummer. But the mac & cheese is fabulous. I had it with shrimp - get it with bacon!!!

Linda S.

Yelp
Best French fries! Friendly fun place to eat but they have the most delicious perfect French fries with great dips

Debra Z.

Yelp
One of the few spots on the North Fork open year round and it never disappoints! Cocktails and food are great, very accommodating for food allergies too.

Lucas M.

Yelp
Great little spot. Had brunch a few times and lunch a few. Something for everyone, even Vegan fare!
google avatar

Tia M.

Yelp
Such a cute and perfect spot for a Sunday brunch. My little baby had so much fun with the live music It was just perfect Great food, and nice portions. I will DEFINITELY be back next time we're in Greenport

Frank D.

Yelp
In our 5th season, this is our most favorite restaurant on the North Fork. The best New England Clam Chowder on the East End. Never a bad meal, great service, very friendly staff, makes us feel at home, dog friendly. A must visit in Greenport.

Montesa P.

Yelp
Aside from the awkward entrance where I was corralled by 3 large dogs (I like dogs-I just don't think they belong in restaurants and especially when they're blocking the front door) was led to the back dining room and sat next to a party of about 10. Thankfully they left about 10 minutes later-it was SO LOUD and I have terrible hearing. They do have those noise pads on the ceiling but it was awful while the large party was there. Ok that's it for the negatives. The service was wonderful, the ranch wings were great and the burger and fries were fantastic!! Absolutely will be back.
google avatar

Austin R.

Yelp
This place is great every time we go. Service is great. Waiter was nice and attentive. Someone else was taking care of our table for drinks. The manager is super sweet. Everything on the menu is good! Fries for two is a must to snack on while you decide from the menu.

Arlene L.

Yelp
I should have known from the get go it wasn't going to be good. Had a reservation, was given the worst table on top of the music outside. Asked for inside was told No, can't do it, no tables. Went in to use restroom and saw 2 empty tables for 2! So I asked to be switched and finally they gave in. The food. I had a burger. It was sliding off the bun because of whatever topping was on it. It was just a mess. My husband had the driest fried chicken ever. Couldn't even eat without getting stuck in his throat. What a total disaster. I'm being generous giving 3 stars!

Yelp
Greenport is a very cute town with super cute restaurants and first and south it's definitely a must for dinner . The salmon dish was very tasty. The drinks were made to perfection. They have a wonderful choice of mocktails. The atmosphere was fun. We waited about 20 minutes for a table the staff was very inviting! service was super and quick . It would've been nice if the air conditioner was a little stronger.oh and don't forget to order the oatmeal cake !!!!

Yelp
Food and service were excellent. Wonderful take on brussels sprouts. They were so good. We ordered a second order to take home.
